Jaden was all psyched up for his second year at Duel Academy.

Jaden: I can’t wait for this year, Sy!

Syrus: Yeah, I know. I’m in Ra Yellow with Bastion.

Jaden: Wait! You moved up to Ra?

Syrus: Yeah, didn’t you?

Jaden: Actually, I get a make-up test this morning.

Syrus: What?!?

Alexis enters.

Alexis: What’s all the commotion about?

Jaden: Sy’s in Ra Yellow and I still have to take my test.

Alexis: You know Crowler has it in for ya, right?

Syrus: Yeah, but he’s proud of Jaden, nonetheless. I got some new cards for this year!

Alexis: So did I… like this one!

Alexis holds up Cyber Girl*.

Cyber Girl – Level 2 – LIGHT – Warrior/Effect – When this card is summoned, destroy all of your opponent’s Spell and Trap cards is play. – 300 ATK – 400 DEF

Syrus: Yeah, well I’ve got Tractoroid*!

Tractoroid – Level 4 – EARTH – Machine/Effect – When this card is summoned, destroy 1 monster on your opponent’s field. – 1300 ATK – 1700 DEF

Jaden: Well, I’ve got a card to beat them all! Look!

Elemental Hero Shadowman – Level 6 – DARK – Warrior/Effect – If "Elemental Hero Burstinatrix" is in play, increase both that and this cards’ ATK by 600 until they are both taken off the field. If "Elemental Hero Burstinatrix" is destroyed, this card attacks your opponent with "Elemental Hero Burstinatrix"’s ATK. Then add them together and that is this card’s now ATK. Destroy all of your opponent’s monsters and this card’s ATK and DEF increases 500 points for each monster destroyed in this way. Then, both players remove all cards in their hands from play and this card gains 300 ATK and DEF times the number of cards removed in this way. Then your opponent Special Summons any monster from his/her deck regardless of restrictions. After this effect is used, you cannot Normal Summon or Set for the rest of the duel. – 2200 ATK – 800 DEF

Jaden: Some teenager gave me this. I think he’s coming to duel academy this year.

They have finally made it inside and Jaden goes to his Duel Station for his advancement test.

Crowler: Well, Jaden, my boy, you’ve made it. I’ve got your duel all set up. Oh, and thanks for saving the world.

Jaden: No problem.

Crowler: Well, here’s the proctor with the exam. I’ll go now; I’ve got students to welcome.

Proctor: Let’s duel Jaden. I’ll move first.

Jaden: Get your game on, Proctor.

J-4000 P-4000

Both: Let’s duel.

Proctor: I summon Obnoxious Celtic Guard (1400/1200) and set 2 cards face down. Your move.

Jaden: I summon Elemental Hero Sparkman (1600/1400). Attack!

Proctor: I activate Mirror Force. Sorry, this destroys Sparkman.

Jaden: Fine, then I’ll throw down a face down and end my turn.

Proctor: I summon Slate Warrior (1900/400). Slate Warrior, attack!

J-2100 P-4000

Proctor: Obnoxious Celtic Guard, attack!

J-0700 P-4000

Jaden: My move. I play Elemental Hero Clayman (800/2000) in defense mode. Your move.

Proctor: I sacrifice Obnoxious Celtic Guard to summon Jinzo (2400/1500). Attack Clayman!

Jaden: I activate my facedown, Hero Save*.

Hero Save – Quick-Play Spell – Negate 1 attack against an Elemental Hero. Then deal damage to your opponent equal to half the ATK of the attacking monster.

J-0700 P-2800

Jaden: My move. I play Polymerization to fuse Clayman and Burstinatrix to summon Elemental Hero Rampart Blaster (2000/2500) in defense mode. Attack him directly for 1000 damage, Blaster!

J-0700 P-1800

Proctor: My move. I summon Vorse Raider (1900/1200) and end my turn.

Jaden: Cool! Blaster, direct attack!

J-0700 P-0800

Jaden: Now I play De-Fusion to defuse my monster and summon Clayman and Burstinatrix in defense mode (2000, 800, respectively). Now I sacrifice Clayman to summon Elemental Hero Shadowman (2200/800). Since both he and Burstinatrix are in play, they both gain 600 ATK points!

Shadowman: 2800/800

Burstinatrix: 1800/800

Jaden: That ends my turn.

Proctor: Jinzo, attack Burstinatrix!

Shadowman: *gets angry*

Jaden: Now you’ve activated Shadowman’s Special Ability: Shadow Rampage. First, he destroys all your monsters and gains 500 ATK and DEF for each of them.

Shadowman: 2800/800 --> 4300/2300

Jaden: Then we remove our hands from play and he gains 300 ATK and DEF for each one removed.

Shadowman: 4300/2300 --> 5500/3500

Jaden: Then, you get to summon any monster from your deck with no restrictions in defense mode, and unfortunately, I can’t Normal Summon or Set for the rest of the duel.

Proctor: Fine, then I’ll summon Spirit Reaper (300/200) in defense mode. Go.

Jaden: I’ll throw down a face down and attack Spirit Reaper!

Proctor: Sorry, but Reaper can’t be destroyed in battle. My turn. *smirks* I set a card as well. Go.

Jaden: I draw!

Proctor: I activate Ring of Destruction to destroy Shadowman! Then, I’ll…

Jaden: Hold on, now I get a chance to respond. I activate Solemn Judgement. This will stop your Ring as long as I pay half my Life Points.

J-0350 P-0800

Jaden: Now, I’ll continue my turn. I play Flute of Calling Kuriboh. This lets me summon Winged Kuriboh from my deck in defense mode (300/200). Go.

Proctor: Fine. *draws* I play Pot of Greed to draw 2 cards. Now I set 1 card and play Dark Hole, destroying all monsters in play.

Jaden: Awww man, that’s not good. My draw. With his own ability, I Special Summon Elemental Hero Bubbleman (800/1200), then draw 2 cards. Bubbleman, attack!

Proctor: I activate Sakeretsu Armor to destroy Bubbleman.

Jaden: Well, I can’t use my Necroshade so…I guess I’ll throw down a face down and end my turn.

Proctor: I’ll play Angel Wing*.

Angel Wing – Spell – Send 1 of your facedown Spell or Traps cards in play to the graveyard. Draw 2 cards.

Proctor: Next, I summon Cyber Harpie (1800/1300). Attack his Life Points directly!

Jaden: I activate Negate Attack, ending your Battle Phase.

Proctor: I’ll set a card and end my turn.

Jaden: I play Monster Reincarnation. I send Necroshade to the graveyard to get back Bubbleman, who I’ll Special Summon in attack mode (800/1200). Now I draw 2 cards. Now I activate Necroshade to Special Summon Elemental Hero Bladedge (2600/1700). Bladedge, attack!

Proctor: Magic Cylinder!

Jaden: No!

J-0000 P-0800

Jaden: I… lost?

Proctor: Sorry, Jaden Yuki, but you shall remain a Slifer Red. Better luck next time.

Jaden: *smiles*

Syrus: Hey, let’s watch the entrance duels.

Jaden: Yeah, I know someone who will be trying to enter today.

Announcer: Will new students ranked 1-10, please report to the duel stage.
