Chapter 8: Shadi's Challenge

Me: Well everyone November is here. To most this means Thanksgiving, the last month of autumn, yadda, yadda. But this is month is special to me. 5 words-games, games, and more games! Hopefully I'm going to be a busy girl this Holiday! ^_^

Me: Now I present to you, Chapter 8.

Yuki sighed. It had been 4 hours since she returned home. But she couldn't forget what Shadi said. She tried everything, she tried playing her games, she tried listening to her music, she tried drinking hot cocoa, she tried taking a short nap, and she even tried to cuddle her Ryo-Oh-Ki plushie. But nothing worked.

`What did Shadi mean by another man?'

"Yuki! Come downstairs now!" shouted Yuki's mother

Yuki came downstairs and saw her grandfather and mother near the TV. From the stairs Yuki could hear what the reporter was talking about.

"Earlier this evening the Curator of Domino Museum, Mr. Kanekura, was found dead in his office. Cause of death appears to be a heart-attack but a man who was suppose to meet with Kanekura says he heard strange noises from the Office before he found Kanekura dead."

"That is such a shame to find out that someone we just met today died. It's almost as ironic as someone's family member dieing on the very day the person was born." Said Yuki's mother

"Mom, grandpa… Do curses exist?"

"Um well Yuki. No one is sure. When King Tut's Tomb was found all those years ago, most of the people involved died mysterious deaths. Some said that "The Mummy's Curse" was just something the media made up to get more attention. Others say differently."

Yuki gulped and her mother noticed.

"Yuki don't worry. Everything will be fine. Now your grandfather and I are going to call Professor Yoshimori and tell him that we're going to see him. Your grandfather is just a bit worried because Professor Yoshimori was involved in the Excavation. Better safe then sorry."

`One more man… No way it's Professor Yoshimori. But like mom said. Better safe then sorry.'

"Mom, grandpa is it okay if I go as well?"

"Well I don't see why not. Just get dressed out of your pajamas and we'll leave." Said Solomon

Yuki ran up the stairs and into her room. She changed out of the Hello Kitty Pajamas and into a velvet winter dress. About 10 minutes later, Yuki and her family left the game shop and they met up with Joey, Tristan, and Miho.

"Hey Yuki! Did you hear about Mr. Kanekura?" asked Joey

"Yeah. It's real sad."

"We decided to check on you and your family then go see Professor Yoshimori." Said Tristan

"Well then we'll all go together." Said Mr. Moto

But as they were all walking, Yuki said something that surprised her friends.

"Guys I don't think you should go. I don't know why but I have feeling that if you guys go with us, something bad will happen."

"Yuki don't worry about us. If something comes our way, we'll take care of it." Said Tristan

"Yeah… I guess. Sorry guys, I got a little paranoid. I knew I shouldn't have read those Resident Evil comic scans last night."

`Though I do hope everything is okay.'

Meanwhile, Professor Yoshimori was starting to break down. Every time he closed his eyes, the image Mr. Kanekura dead on the floor with his eyes bulging in shock appeared.

"I need to stop thinking like this. There are no such things as curses. Solomon and his family are coming over and hopefully this whole mess will be behind me."

But what Yoshimori didn't know was that he had an extra guest. Shadi used his key, turned it, and entered Yoshimori's soul.

The room was dark, all the walls were covered in books, the entire room was filled with Egyptian artifacts, and a dusty cracked picture laid abandoned on the floor.

`This man had spent his entire life studying Egypt's days of the past. All the books on the shelves are about archeology and the artifacts show how cluttered his heart has become because his obsession.'

Shadi bent down and picked up the picture. It showed Yoshimori with a young beautiful woman and a sweet youthful boy.

`This man's obsession has caused him to forget about his family. The damage and dust of this photo shows that he feels guilty about abandoning them. But it is too late now. The darkness of the room shows the anxiety and fear. Obviously the cause is the Museum Curator's death.'

Shadi then saw a small crack in one of the walls and in the crack shone a bright light.

`I see. He is waiting for the friends who calm his heart and give him a ray of hope. But who are these friends?'

Shadi looked inside the crack and saw Yuki and her family and friends.

`Yuki! One of this man's friends is the girl who solved the Millennium Puzzle. Hm maybe… before I kill this man, he can be a valuable assist.'

Back to Yuki and everyone else, they had reached Domino University and were already exploring the dark and empty hallways.

`I hate dark areas especially quiet ones. Makes me feel like a monster is going to pop out of the shadows any second.' Thought Yuki

"Man this place is creepy." Said Joey

"You have no backbone what so ever do you?" asked Miho

Mrs. Moto cleared her throat.

"Alright everyone we've reached Professor Yoshimori's office. Now before we go in, I just need to say that none of us should mention the museum. Got it?"

"Got it mom."

Solomon opened the door and everyone greeted Yoshimori but his reply wasn't really ecstatic or normal.

"Thank you for coming. Come in. Come in. Come in. Come in."

"Uh hope we're not interrupting anything. Anyway Professor, we got something for you. Y'know for showing us around the museum and all."

Joey quickly covered his mouth, Yuki gave Joey a worried look, and Tristan and Miho glared him.

"Oh yes. The Museum."

"Moron." Muttered Tristan

"Sorry." Joey Muttered back

"Some~body kill~lled him. Somebody killed Mr. Kanekura."

It was now that everyone noticed that something wasn't right.

"Professor? Are you okay?" asked Miho

"I'm fine. I'm just waiting. Waiting for Yuki."

Yoshimori started to walk towards the group and then grabbed Joey's neck and started to strangle him.

"Joey no!" shouted Yuki

"I want to see the other Yuki." Yoshimori muttered

Everyone tried to pull Yoshimori away from Joey but Yoshimori's grip was too strong.

"Please excuse my puppet's rudeness."

Yuki was the only one who heard and recognized the voice.

She turned around and saw Shadi.

"Shadi what did you do to the Professor?"

"I am hoping that this will bring out the other Yuki."

Yuki was about to punch Shadi but she heard the shouts of her family and friends. She looked and saw that Joey could die any moment.

Miho just stood there with no clue what to do.

`I can't let Joey die. I'd never forgive myself if I did allow him to die like this.'

Miho then saw a globe and she got an idea. She picked up and the globe and went behind the Professor.

"Professor… Forgive me!"

The puppet professor slightly turned his head and was struck face first and three of his teeth flew out.

Joey was released from the Professor's grasp and took deep breaths.

"You did it Miho!" said Yuki

"Nice shot!" said Tristan

Shadi seemed shocked at what had happened. It seemed he had to add more to the plan.

Yuki had completely forgot about Shadi as she ran to Joey.

"Joey are you okay?"

"Yeah. I'm okay. You're stronger then you look Miho."

"I'm just worried about Professor Yoshimori. I think I might've hit him too hard."

Instantly the Professor got up and started to walk towards everyone again.

"Eek! I think you didn't hit hard enough!" said Yuki

"Everyone split up now!" shouted Mrs. Moto

Shadi watched the life or death version of cat and mouse and looked at his key.

"It seems the Professor isn't enough. I need to enter someone else's mind and turn them into a puppet."

The first person Shadi chose was Yuki's mother.

Everyone was so concentrated on staying away from Yoshimori that they didn't notice that Mrs. Moto had stopped moving.

The room Shadi was inside in resembled a family room and a small kitchen.

`It is like a small home in here. This woman has many responsibilities but the room is not mixed up or cluttered. She seems to not mind the responsibilities she has.'

On a small table in the center laid a white vase and in it was a Forget-Me-Not.

`It seems that the woman might be on the verge of forgetting someone important to her but she refuses to let the memory of the person fade away.'

Shadi also noticed a few photographs on the walls and on the table near the vase. All of the pictures showed Mrs. Moto and Yuki together.

Shadi picked up one of the pictures. Inside the picture was a younger Mrs. Moto and a 4-year-old Yuki with her hair in pigtails.

`It seems that Yuki is the most important person in this woman's life. Chances are… the feeling is mutual. Heh this woman is easy to like. She doesn't deserve to become a mindless puppet like the Professor. Instead I'll just turn her into a pretty doll without a voice and without a memory.'

Back to reality, Solomon tried to stop Yoshimori but he was pushed away and knocked out. Joey had thought of a plan and decided to get Miho and Tristan involved.

"Okay guys. We need to get out of here before that guy gets Yuki, gramps, and Mrs. Moto. All you have to do is follow me."

-Joey cleared his throat and shouted in a taunting tone…

"Hey you old bookworm! Take a bite out of this… my ass!"

(A/N That line always make me laugh for some strange reason. XD)

Joey grabbed Miho and Tristan's wrists and ran as fast as he could with Yoshimori chasing them.

"Guys!" shouted Yuki

"Your friends are very loyal and would sacrifice themselves to save you. They must be very important to you. And I can assume that she is important as well."

Yuki turned around and saw her mother next to Shadi, but Mrs. Moto's eyes looked cold and lifeless like a doll.

"Mom!"

"So she is important to you."

"Shadi what did you do to my mother!?"

"I have turned her into a doll. I have erased her memories and free will."

This had hit Yuki hard. There was a reason why Yuki loved her mother so much. Yuki had been alone for all of her childhood. Children always picked on her at the school, the only good part of the day was coming home to her grandfather and her parents.

But Yuki and her mother had such a strong and loving bond. Yuki remembered the day that her father had to leave home 9 years ago.

*Flashback*

"Daddy. Do you have to leave?"

"I'm sorry sweetie but I have to. My friends need me in Egypt."

Yuki's father patted his daughter's head and then looked at his wife and father.

"Things at home aren't going to be the same without you." Said Solomon

"I know dad but if I leave, my colleagues and I can discover something very important about Egypt's past. They need me right now."

"Can you at least try to make it in time for Yuki's birthday next month?" asked Mrs. Moto

"Mitsuko, I don't know how long I'll be gone so I'm sorry if I miss something important like Yuki's birthdays."

With that Yuki's father walked away, tears started to pour from Yuki's eyes.

After the Moto family came home, Mrs. Moto noticed Yuki's tears and wiped them away.

"Don't worry honey. Daddy isn't gone forever. As long as we both remember him, he'll always be with us. But please stop crying. I know your father wouldn't like to see his little girl crying over him."

*End flashback*

"You bastard! You bastard!"

Back to Joey, Tristan, and Miho, they were still running from Yoshimori.

"How fast can this guy go?" asked Tristan

Joey suddenly turned around and just as Yoshimori was about to reach him, Joey punched the puppet Professor and some more teeth flew.

"You okay Professor?" asked Tristan and Joey

"Are you back to normal?" asked Miho

The Professor then grabbed Miho's ankle and chuckled to himself. He was still a puppet.

"Eek! Get off of me you crazy freak!"

Miho used her other foot to step on Yoshimori's wrist and soon he let go.

Miho ran as quickly as she could and the boys followed her.

Back to Yuki, she was almost ready to have a nervous breakdown. She didn't know what to do. She couldn't stand the sight of her mother like this, Yuki was just confused. Shadi saw this, his plan was working. Soon he would be face to face with the Other Yuki.

`That's it. Anger! Hatred! Sadness! On the far side of your emotions… like a runner waiting for the handoff in a relay. The other Yuki is waiting.'

"Listen well Yuki. Let these words be the final trigger. If I ordered this woman to die. She would die."

Yuki felt like her heart just snapped into two. She collapsed onto the floor and cried uncontrollably.

Shadi thought that maybe he pushed her too far. He walked towards Yuki but a light blinded him and when the light disappeared… Yuki's crying stopped, she looked up and revealed crimson eyes. It was the Other Yuki.

"Shadi!"

She stood up and gave Shadi a dark glare.

"So we finally meet in this world. Yuki within Yuki. It is time for the second part of our game."

Me: Phew. Looks like I'm back to making long chapters. Anyway about Mrs. Moto's soul room, I made it and the meanings all up. Also I am sorry for that sappy flashback Yuki had. Anyway R/R and I'll see ya soon.

Ryo-Oh-Ki plushie- I actually have a Ryo-Oh-Ki plushie. It's so cute I love it so much. ^_^ Ryo-Oh-Ki is a half cat half rabbit (cabbot) thing from the Tenchi series.

Resident Evil comic- That's right RE fans. There are Resident Evil comics. One night I found scans of the comics and my curiosity possessed me. Now I'm regretting my stupid curiosity.
