Lunos blinked. Then blinked again. " Barely anyone who meets me the first time with no knowledge of otherworldly things ever figures that out so quickly. Your powers must be more awake than the Doctors predicted Lord Duo," Lunos replied to Duo's statement, nonplussed because he wasn't asking her, no, he told her. This was not what she was expecting but it was what she hoped for. She was expecting the reaction to her statement, just not in the exact way they reacted.
" Powers?" was Quatre's.
" Otherworldly things?" was Heero's.
" Predicted?" was Trowa's.
" Lord Duo?" was Wufei's.
Most surprising of all was Duo's " Really, barely anyone?"
That snapped the others out of their incredulous states. " Maxwell! Of all the things to ask you ask that?!" asked Wufei with more than a bit of disbelief in his voice. " Well sure, we're far from normal. Besides haven't you ever had things happen to you that shouldn't have, like living through something when you knew you should have died? Felt, done, or known something you shouldn't have? I know I'm good at what I do, but knowing where a bullet is coming from before it's fired is not something normal Wufei," came Duo's nonchalant reply. He looked at them when said this and from the looks in their eyes they knew exactly what he was talking about. They knew because it had happened to them as well. " This certainly makes things easier. Not many people take knowing about the supernatural half as easily as you all. That's sure reassuring. How much weirdness would you be willing to take?" asked a happy Lunos. " What kind of weirdness are you talking about?" was Heero's wary question as reply. As Heero asked this Lunos climbed into his lap much to everyone but Shadow's startlement. There was no debating her realness now that they could all see her resting in the Perfect Soldier's lap. The most surprising thing though was that he was letting her sit there, and that she hadn't set off the hair trigger reflexes he was known. That told them that she could be trusted because no danger came from her. She settled herself before answering, " Well, you see I am very picky about who I share my Shadow with but I like all of you so I'll share. I trust you with my Shadow. Your all taking the whole things I never knew about rather well so far, and if my guess is correct you all subconsciously knew that there were things out there that science couldn't explain. Instincts and your spirit awareness help a lot even if you don't know your using them or falling back on them. Losing track again, sorry, well you see Shadow can tell you what you need to know right now but the method he uses might um... startle you if your not prepared for it. It's completely in the realm of supernatural, this method."
A quick glance in Shadow's direction during Lunos' explanation revealed him sitting in a chair that had appeared out of nowhere with a distinctly amused look. Duo hadn't taken a good look earlier having paid attention to only the eye that he could see. Now he stopped and took a look at the rest of him. What hair he could see was blacker than pitch and spikier than Heero's, that eye was a silver so pure in color it put the metal to shame, pale skin that had felt the moon's touch many times, and full, pouty lips that were the slightest bit pink. Familiarity struck Duo again but he couldn't place the feeling so dismissed it to be thought about another time. The guy was gorgeous but didn't attract him like Heero did, besides it just felt wrong to be attracted to Shadow for some reason. ' Wait, didn't attract him like Heero did?! Am I nuts?! Being attracted to Heero could make me lose him damn it! I don't even know if he swings that way much less how badly he would react to knowing one of his friends likes him. Who am I kidding? I love the cold bastard and that's even worse. Don't know what's more surprising though, finding out that supernatural thing are real, or how well the others are taking this. I've always suspected that what people said wasn't real did exist. Of course seeing some of those things I saw on L2 probably helped. I mean, really, how many people can summon little winged imps to do their bidding? I might not have believed that or the other things at the time, but Lunos appearing out of thin air just proved those beliefs wrong. Damn it again, I need to pay attention. Though I wonder how Shadow's going to talk to us?' were the thoughts rapidly going through Duo's mind.
//This is how of course.// Now that caused them to jump. That wasn't said aloud, that came from inside their minds. " Did I forget to warn you that Shadow has a wicked sense of humor?" came a sheepish looking Lunos' query from her place in Heero's lap. //You forgot morbid and sarcastic. No use warning them if you don't give them a full one. Comfortable by the way?// "That's not fair, and yes I am comfortable. I happen to like this one the most if you must know -" Shadow cut her off with, //Of course he's one of your favorites, I figured as much. Almost feel sorry for him too. You have a habit of being overprotective. With our luck J ain't going to be completely whole or living if you have your way O She Of The Temper From The Deepest Pits Of Hell, and I mean that in the most sincere way, of course. Don't the rest of you bother worry though I won't let her kill him, can't say much about her maiming him though.// During this Duo couldn't stop thinking as he was cracking up laughing that he and Quatre had lucked out, not only did this one look like talking was no hardship but also had a sense of humor. Quatre was trying his hardest to keep the giggles from escaping while Wufei and Trowa were trying to hide the amused smirks on their faces. Heero just had this slightly shocked, disbelieving look in his eyes. Duo took all this in from what little of his eyes that was still open and was pleased to note that none of them were tense or uncomfortable. He was even more pleased to note they were even as relaxed as possible for them when in unknown safe territory. Of course they'll relax more when they get a layout of this place, the rundown of the security system, and settle in. Duo thought, ' I have a feeling this could easily become home. If the advanced technology and innovations we've seen so far are any indication then this place is more than safe. With this little revelation about the supernatural I'd bet technology ain't the only thing protecting this place. Now that I think about it... I already feel at home.-' His thoughts were cut off by Shadow. //Don't look so shocked Perfect Soldier, she has always liked your kind. Before you ask wait till your training begins and then I will answer. Though I will tell you the other reason. Your spiritbeast, your spiritpartner happens to be a phoenix and Lunos has a great love of phoenixes. She favors and loves Blaze and his Dranzer just as much. The Fire Phoenix and Blaze adore Lunos in return though you'd never get it out of him. You'll have to wait till you meet him to get his real name. Usually we only give our tags and not our real ones.// "Spiritpartner? Spiritbeast?" asked Wufei and it wasn't all that hard to see that scholarly interest and curiosity lurking behind his eyes now that the disbelief had been dispelled. Of course it wasn't that hard to believe in the supernatural after Lunos' little appearance and display by sitting in Heero's lap. //A reflection of one's soul. One's guardian. The beast within. There are many explanations to what one's spiritbeast are. They chose one soul that they deem worthy to be their chosen and entwine their souls together so that they can be together for all of eternity. It takes a very powerful spell to even slightly separate the spiritbeast from their chosen and almost impossible to sever the bond. Each of you has one and one of the reasons your here is for me to release them so that they can help you control the powers you have. That and so that you may have back your companions, your friends, for even if your separated from everyone else nothing can stop you from communicating to your spiritbeast.//
"You must be an Archmage for you to be able to release them from inside of us. I come from a long line of magic-users though its a closely kept secret and I was never trained because the only thing I posses is Empathy," Quatre said much to the mild surprise of the others. //That shows how much knowledge your family has lost Quatre. Empathy is a sign of one of the Greater Gifts. Your a Healer, Desert Prince. Have any idea how rare that is? Very rare, especially one as powerful as you and believe me when I say powerful I mean powerful, but only when that power is under control. It takes great control to be a good Healer, and I don't think you'll have great difficulty with that aspect, especially when you've finely honed your Gift.// It didn't take a genius to see that Quatre was shell-shocked, apparently he didn't think he was all that special, which was one hell of a laugh. //You'll drool if you don't close your mouth soon and drool is rather hard to get out of the upholstery. Yes, I do happen to be as strong as an Archmage, its one of my tags. Shadow is the name I was given so I gave it to you instead of giving you one of my tags, though I'm sure you'll hear them all before long. The others love using all of them. I'm going to have to schedule special learning sessions with all of you, now that I look at you all. Each of you has a different element which is interesting. Must be why you have all worked so well together, you all complement each other. That and your souls are old and very close. Though it seems as if there are others missing from this circle.// "What others are you talking about?" this time it was Trowa asking.
//The pilots of the Gundams aren't the only ones fighting under the Doctors. There are teams of specialists that are our age who do the same things we do only without the advantage of Gundams. Not to say they don't have specially made machines in which to fight in but they are the likes of which Oz has never seen. Some are hackers, thieves, spies, demolition experts, arms experts, mechanics, assassins, the list goes on. They do the work that the six of us don't have the time or the resources to get. Most if not all the information you get for missions comes from them and what they have gathered. You'll meet them all after I've helped you get a good handle an your powers and released your spiritbeasts. Might be a little later if Master Jericho asks Doctor J to use his team cause I'll probably be the one to take them. They'll be able to help you with your powers once I do a few things.// There was a pause before Shadow continued
//Well anyway most of the teams are in groups of four or five, sometimes more and are named. This is the third team I've been on. J switches some of us when he feels like it. There are the Majestics, the White Tigers, and the All Starz. These last two teams are the one's I've been on, the Blitzkrieg Boys and the Bladebreakers, in that order. Each team has a Captain to make sure that the team's needs are taken care of, to make sure everyone trains, and to make decisions. Their the leaders basically though its standard policy among all of us to listen to what each team member says. While I'm teaching you I'm technically acting as your Captain but I've always been autonomous even when on a team, so I'm not going to take the position. I'm of the opinion that the Perfect Soldier over there has been doing a fine job as unspoken leader and said as much to J. So he'll be introduced as the Captain of this team which the Docs in a burst of creativity named the Gundam Boys, when you meet the others. The teams also have spiritbeasts who I'm more than sure you'll be introduced to as well. Make no mistake they are as intelligent as any of you and have the capacity to speak. That answer your question to your satisfaction Silencer?// A nod from Trowa was all the answer Shadow got.
"You told Heero what his spiritbeast was but not the name or what ours are nor what their names are," was Duo's comment. //You already know their names because the Docs named your Gundams after them. The Gundams either bare their nickname or their real name. You Duo possesses the element of water and your spiritbeast is interestingly enough is the Black Panther, Deathscythe. I think it's because of your contradicting natures that you have such an odd combination. Trowa possesses the element of earth and the Stone Lion, Heavyarms, also known as the Lord of the Forest. Stone comes from his gray coloring and some other things I'm sure you'll discover on your own. Quatre possesses the fifth element which is ether and the Desert Cheetah, Sandrock. Wufei possesses the element of fire which I'm sure is of no surprise to any of you and the Red Dragon, Shenlong, who is also called Nataku if you wanted to know Wufei. This dragon is also known for her temper and it's said that in past lives that the reason Wufei had an extreme distaste for the female gender is because few females could compare to his spiritbeast if anyone is interested. Lastly, Heero possesses the element of air and the White Phoenix, Wing, whose called Tsubasa as well. Do you mind if I place the information of the castle, I mean mansion in your minds directly? It's easier to do than giving you a tour of where everything is and explaining how everything works. You can chose whichever rooms you want though I would suggest the top floor. There are lots of levels below ground and above, but the roof has a garden that can change to fit the visitor's desires, like say you wanted half to be jungle and the other half to be desert and it would work. You'll all be doing training up there because of that. Don't worry about your things either they'll appear in your room when you choose one. So will you?// They all glanced at each other before Heero answered for them with a simple, "Yes."
Later after taking Shadow's advice about choosing rooms, getting the information implanted in their minds, which was an odd experience to say the least, and Shadow disappearing off into the deeper recesses of the mansion with a brief comment on dinner being served at six, the other five pilots congregated in Quatre's room. All of their rooms were spacious and upon entering changed before their eyes into something that fit their needs and wants. Weapons and equipment of every sort they could have wished for, that they could have needed appeared. Their rooms also resembled the environment that their spiritbeast would feel most comfortable in and oddly enough they themselves found peace in them. From the information given to them by Shadow the mansion and all the surrounding land were magically protected. Their were every kind of possible escape routes as well in case the place was breached as well. There were also other guards of the living variety who patrolled the area and lived mostly in the surrounding forest.
Quatre's room resembled a desert oasis and the palace of an Arabian Prince with all sorts of charts and maps covering one of the walls. All of their brains were pretty much on overload with all the information that they had been given. Really, how many shocks can one have in one day? Apparently quite a few if their day was anything to judge by. It was mutually decided that they would wait to explore until tomorrow because Shadow hadn't been kidding when he said it was easier to just transfer the information straight into their minds. It would have taken quite a while otherwise. All of them were curious about what the next few weeks would hold because the help in getting them out of that base, the competence and intelligence shown, and the wisdom they felt just beneath the surface, had earned Shadow their respect and though he didn't know it the beginnings of their trust.
