CHAPTER XCI
RETURN TO THE PAST
“Watch over who?” a voice sounded like the coo of a dove.
The gathered group of males turned and twin ruby eyes widened in surprise.
“YUKINA!?” a pair of mid-baritone voices exclaimed.
“Kurama! What a surprise and dear brother, Hiei. I felt you were in need of healing but I see I’m too late. You. You are my brother but yet not. You’re much taller and your hair is longer and… you’re breeding? How can that be?” Yukina asked the Hiei from the past.
“We share the same genes even in my time and my sister is very happy with the prospect of being an aunt,” Hiei smiled.
“It’s a wonder those humans haven’t picked you up to dissect and study you,” Mirai Hiei snorted.
“There are far too many male breeders in my time for them to be concerned over one like me. So, Hiei, Kurama here, wishes for you to return to the past with us,” Past Hiei nodded.
Mirai Hiei hung his head and shook it slowly. “I am unable to. With Murkuro’s defeat comes the responsibility of maintaining the territory. I was not only her captain but her heir as well. I’ll miss you, Kurama, and I hope you find happiness in the past.”
Kurama grabbed Hiei’s hands in both of his own, knelt down so that he was eye level with the smaller fire yokai and said…”I won’t be happy, Hiei. My past self picked up on it and all but told me to return and take care of things here. Besides, with Shiori now transcended and all the others gone back to the past, I have nothing tying me to this Ningenkai any longer. If you’ll have me, I want to stay here with you for all existence. You are my soul mate, Hi-chan, and without you… Hiei, I don’t want to live without you any longer,” Mirai Kurama fought against tears that threatened to fall.
Moved beyond a response, Mirai Hiei took Mirai Kurama in a hug and the pair let their emotions show.
“I knew my brother always love the fox, he was just too shy to admit it,” Yukina smiled.
“Mirai Trunks calling Mirai Shuichi, if you can read me, come in, over,” a static voice sounded.
Any noise fell silent and all eyes looked to Kurama.
“Mirai Trunks to Mirai Shuichi, over!”
Kurama padded himself down until he found a small device that resembled a cell phone. Flipping the device open, Kurama held it out. “Trunks? Aren’t you in the past?”
“I am! It works! It finally works!” Maigeta’s voice exclaimed.
“What works?” Mirai Hiei asked.
“Trunks, Duo, Heero and myself have been working on a way to communicate between time and space. I had created such a thing to communicate with Ningenkai during the Dark Tournament with Shiori so she would not worry so much over me. I’m glad he’s got it working, now we can communicate with our past selves,” Kurama smiled. “Trunks, tell the others I won’t be returning to the past. I have a better future looking at me but I do request a favor, though,” Mirai Kurama spoke.
“Name it. If it’s in my power, I’ll fulfill it,” Trunks replied.
“Hiei and I will need several capsule cities to populate a new territory we’ve just acquired and ask my younger self if he has any of the fruit of the past life juice,” Mirai Kurama requested.
“I have plenty but I thought you had no desire to become Youko anymore,” younger Shuichi responded.
“Well, that was when I still had something to live for in Human World, now I have someone to live for in my first home world,” Mirai Kurama smiled at Mirai Hiei.
“Best of luck to you two, then. One word of warning when you use the juice. It can shorten the human life span and you’ll revert solely to Youko in a hundred year’s time,” past Kurama warned.
“I’m not worried, younger one. Hiei means more to me than anything, now. I have and always will love him as I know he does me. Let me get your fire man back to you, gather what we’ll need to resettle the territory and we’ll be in touch. Kurama out,” elder Kurama signed off.
“Younger Kurama out. I’ll meet you in Raizen’s court with the capsules. Take care and Hi-chan, be prepared to be punished severely,” younger Kurama warned his partner in a husky tone.
“I can’t wait. I love you, fox,” younger Hiei smirked trying to hide what his mate’s voice had just done to his libido.
“I love you, too, lord dragon,” and with a click, the connection was terminated.
“Time to go then. Thanks, Hiei, for being here with me and tell my past self he’s one lucky kit.” Kurama smiled.
“He knows and I can’t wait to return to him. Yukina, Raizen, Hiei, it’s been nice to meet you but I’ve got a fox and kits of my own to get back to, not to mention my parents. We’ll be in touch, I’m sure,” past Hiei nodded.
“Likewise meeting you, youngster. Take care of your sister. You said your parents? How? Hina was murdered by her own people for her treason and I’ve never met my sire,” Mirai Hiei mused.
“He’s a great being and the family’s very large. When you come visit, I’ll introduce you,” Hiei promised.
“Not a chance. I want to meet them when we take you back. Let’s go. Raizen, we’ll be back,” and after shaking the young king’s hand, the three yokai left to set up the Time Machine.
NINGENKAI…. 24 years in the past
After the conversation with his mate, Kurama breathed a heavy sigh. “Thanks, Maigeta. This time phone thing is wonderful! Will we mass produce it for the team?” Kurama asked Mirai Trunks as they studied the time phone.
“The Time Phone, hmmm, Shuichi, you’re a genius! I was wondering what to call it once it was functioning. That was what the guys and myself were working towards. I wonder how Heero and Duo are making out, anyway? Why don’t you get ready to meet your Hiei, with the juice for Mirai Shuichi and I’ll get the capsule cities they requested,” Maigeta suggested and Kurama nodded in agreement.
After leaving Maigeta, Kurama return to his and Hiei’s suite to transmute into his fox form, locate the Fruit of the Past Life juice then Instantly Transmuted from the room to the courtyard of the hotel where he was met by Maigeta, Hina, her five sisters, Caliento and Yukina.
“Here are enough capsule cities to populate an area the size of China,” Maigeta handed the human-fox a large package.
“Thank you, although the territory they need to populate is just the size of Canada. Tell Sire, should he ask that Hiei and I will return in time for dinner. See you in a bit,” Kurama bade, took the package then stepped through a portal with the others in his trail.
“Fox, may we accompany you? If Lord Dragon has a future self, chances are he’d like to know he has family in the past that would love to meet him,” Hina smiled and the fox nodded.
“Kurama, what an honor, and Hiei‘s family, welcome.” Yusuke greeted his first yokai friend.
“Likewise, Raizen. Where did the time machine take off from ?”
“That clearing in back of the palace and for the record, I won’t be Raizen until the other kicks it. This is just my time to check in,” Yusuke reminded. “Hey, fox, looking good even at two months pregnant,” the Mazakouh stated.
“The kits were removed to save both myself and them, if I’m pregnant now, it’s only a few days, but thanks for noticing. I’ll see you in a bit. Come, Hina, everyone,” and with that Kurama moved to the spot where he was told the time machine had departed with Hiei‘s family in tow.
As Kurama and the others made their way to the clearing where the vessel was expected to touch down, a shadowed figure mirrored the fox’s every move and before the fox could prepare himself, Kurama was forced to the ground.
“You’ve got some nerve showing that pretty face of yours around these parts, Youko Kurama! You’re a disgrace to all yokai and it is my right to defend our honor and make you pay for selling us out to those filthy humans!” the figure rasped.
“What are you babbling about? I sold no one out but myself!” Kurama contended.
“By you becoming a human with yokai powers and cavorting with humans that have stolen our powers, you have no right to exist!” the being hissed then moved off the fox.
After moving off the fox, the being picked up Kurama, lifted him over his head and prepared to throw the silver tressed Youko prince to the ground. Hiei clan could only watch with surprised eyes that the ‘Great One’ could be over powered so easily. However…
“SWORD OF THE MORTAL FLAME!” a deep voice yelled.
Kurama felt himself thrown forward, however, something stopped his impending collision with the ground.
“I’ve got you, fox, you’re safe, love,” a deep voice spoke and a vice of protection surrounded Kurama.
Looking up, Kurama found a pair of concerned ruby colored eyes that were wide with fear.
“Hi-chan? Welcome back, love. How was the future?” the fox asked.
“Not as glorious as the past but it was all right. Are you okay? Who was that?” Hiei asked as he assisted his mate to his feet the pair turned to look at the being the smaller Hiei had slain.
“Overis? He’s on the Reikai’s top ten felon list. Someone must have hired him to try and assassinate me should I venture home. Fool, Raizen would never stand for the blood of a friend to be shed on his land. But enough of this, I see your counterpart decided to come along. Greetings Mirai Hiei and welcome to the past. May I introduce you to in-laws, Caliento, Hina, her sisters and Yukina. I have the items you requested,” Kurama introduced and held out a medium sized package.
“That was fast! How did Trunks gather so many capsules in such a short time?” Mirai Kurama asked.
“Sire assisted him with the collection. Seems that Capsule Corp’s not the only manufacturer of encapsulated items any longer. U.C.A.P. has several business that produce the same and are of better quality. Good luck, you two. If anyone can clean up Makai, it’s the four of you, Raizen, Yomi and yourselves,” the fox nodded.
“So, you are our son from the future but you are not as tall as he is. Explain?” Caliento asked as he noted the difference between the two fire lords.
“He is from a future world whose past does not mirror this one, In that time era, Vegeta and the Saiyans along with many others had been slaughtered by a pair of killer androids. They are from Maigeta’s time zone where the Dragon Balls do not exist and there is no knowledge of any others in existence,” younger Kurama explained. “Why don’t you get acquainted for a bit unless they are in a great hurry,” the fox suggested.
“We can spare an hour, I’ve always wanted to know how I came to be and why I was so despised,” elder Hiei nodded to his parents and the others then the group moved off for some privacy.
“Well, my love, looks like they love one another as we do,,” Kurama remarked.
“Hiei had always love his fox but was being kept by that witch away from his intended and Kurama had his human life to live. However, the virus destroyed much of what he had been living for, so he decided to return to Makai and my counterpart,” taller Hiei noted.
An hour later, the future Hiei and Kurama and Hiei’s family returned to the palace courtyard and began their good-byes. The group shook hands and hugged, then the younger pair and the Koorime/Fire family moved off to allow the elder pair to board the time machine. Once elder Kurama and Hiei were aboard the vessel, they powered up the engines and flew off with waves of farewell to their younger counterparts. Once the elder pair had disappeared from sight, the younger pair and their company made their way back to living world and the hotel.
“Now, my fire baby, your promised punishment. Come, to the forest with you and believe me, you’ll be begging me to stop,” Kurama growled in a non-threatening tone.
Hiei groaned as images of what his mate had in store for him assailed his mind and he found his body reacting instantly to the stimulus, then his breath caught.
“You little minx, that’s playing dirty!” the fire lord snarled as the images suddenly stopped.
“I’m the fox bandit prince, I don’t play fair. Catch me, love, and try not to get caught yourself,” was all the warning Hiei received as his fleet-footed silver Kitsune mate sped off into the darkness of the woods.
