I looked around the battlefield and took in the carnage with a dispassionate look. The village was destroyed, the villagers dead, their bodies and limbs littering the ground. I saw Kaede, a gapping hole in her chest where Naraku's tentacle had struck her as she had tried to hit him with a miko arrow, her bow and arrows on the ground next to her. I saw Sango, my sister, her body collasped on top of her brother's with a hole in her stomach; she had never even drawn Hiraikotsu. She had been crying over her brother’s body when she was hit from behind. Kirara was dead by her side. Miroku had been killed when he had gone into a rage seeing Sango die. I couldn't find Inuyasha though. I knew he was still alive, still fighting Naraku. All the sudden, out of nowhere, I heard a crash. When I looked toward the sound I was horrified. Inuyasha was lying on the ground, cuts and gashes covering his body. Naraku was standing over his body. He leaned over Inuyasha and thrust his hand into Inuyasha's chest and ripped out his heart. Just before he died, Inuyasha looked at me and told me to run. Naraku looked at me and said,
"Look at your friends miko, they died because of you, because you weren't strong enough to help them. Now it is your turn to die."
I knew this was true, that I was at fault, if I had only been strong enough to protect them, they wouldn't have died trying to save me. I hung my head and awaited my fate. I didn't deserve to live when my second family had died even if it was to save me. In fact, that was why I waited to die. Suddenly I heard a cry, it had sounded like Shippo. My head shot up, looking around for my adopted kit. When I found him, my heart broke into millions of pieces. Naraku had him by the throat, unconscious. I cried out when Naraku flung his broken body away and into a tree. Shippo collapsed to the ground and lay there limp. As I looked at his body and the bodies of my friends something snapped inside of me. My body began glow and winds began to swirl around my figure. I looked Naraku in the eye and he just laughed at me.
"You think you can defeat me now? You are an even greater fool then I thought."
The winds picked up at this and my hair lengthened and turned blond. I began to glow a golden color. The energy surrounding me coalesced at my clenched fist and began to get larger as I fed the energy with my emotions. My pain, suffering, heartbreak, love, hate, all of it went into the energy ball. I fed my miko powers into the energy and it began to get purple swirls throughout it. When it became the size of a basketball, I pulled my elbow back and held my hand at my hip.
"You think that is going to stop me? Your power is nothing compared to mine. I will kill you and give Kikyo her soul so she can rule by my side. You are NOTHING."
When I heard this I began to flash on all the times Inuyasha had said the same thing. I would prove them wrong, I would prove all of them wrong. ALL of them. As I was thinking, the energy that had gathered around my hand grew bigger, until it had doubled in size. Naraku began to laugh and turned away from me. That was the last straw and I snapped. I thrust my hand out and launched the energy ball at Naraku and watched as it struck him. When the smoke cleared, there was nothing of Naraku left. I stood there for a moment until I saw the shards laying on the ground. I walked over to them and picked them up. They purified instantly in my hands, just like they normally do. The purified shards began to glow and hover. They swirled around in the air in front of me and joined. I now had the whole Shikon no Tama in my possession. The Shikon began to speak to me.
~Miko, what is your wish?~
*I wish to be a kitsune, in honor of my kit, Shippo*
~Granted Miko, use your powers wisely, and don’t forget to live young one~
Both me and the jewel began to glow pink and when the glow died away, where I once stood was now a beautiful kitsune demon. My hair stayed the same color but had grown to my knees with burnt orange streaks, my eyes became a deep violet with silver swirls, and I grew a long tail that also had the same burnt orange streaks as my hair (for a visual think Youko Kurama from Yu Yu Hakusho). I also had little cat-like ears on my head that were black with burnt orange tips. My clothes changed too. What was once my school uniform was now a black silk kimono with flames the color of my eyes decorating the bottom of the kimono and end of the sleeves. I was also now six feet tall. I began to walk toward the bodies of my friends so I could bury them when I heard a noise. I whirled around to see where the sound was coming from. I couldn’t believe my eyes. Shippo had moved! My son is alive! I ran over to my son to see him waking up.
"Stay still Shippo, don’t move, you’re hurt."
"Okaasan? Is that you?"
"Yes Shippo it is me. Go back to sleep and let me treat your wounds."
"Ok ‘kaasan."
When I finished treating his wounds, I walked over to my friends and began to take their bodies to the Goshinboku tree, where I had planned to bury them. First was Inuyasha, then Kaede, Miroku, Sango, and finally Kohaku. When I got to Kirara , I noticed the neko was still breathing, if very slightly. I laid Kilala by Shippo and tended to her wounds. When I was done, I began to dig the five graves. Once my family like friends were buried, I said a silent prayer for their souls and went to gather my son and last living friend. But alas, as I drew closer to Shippo and Kirara, I smelled dirt and bones. As I turned to where the smell was coming from, Kikyo stepped out of the woods.
"I have come for the Shikon and my soul, reincarnation. You may as well just give up and let me kill you, you are nothing compared to me."
"The Shikon is gone Kikyo, and the soul belongs to me, it has since you drew your last breath fifty years ago."
"I will live again, and you will not stop me." Kikyo drew her bow and shot it at me thinking that I, her reincarnation, was too weak to stop it. I just stood there and waited. As the arrow drew near my heart, I lifted my hand and snatched the arrow right out of the air. I then drew Tetsusaiga and stabbed Kikyo with it, killing her and releasing my soul (she had taken Tetsusaiga, Miroku's staff, and Hiraikotsu when she buried them). I absorbed the lost part of my soul and I finally felt whole again. I gathered my kit and Kirara and jumped into the well.
