Yusuke and Kuwabara grumbled as they trudged up the steps to Genkai's shrine,Botan had a new mission for them. As they walked,they suddenly heard a girl cry out. They looked further up the steps to see a girl kneeling on the ground, her orangish blonde hair falling over her face as she held her ankle. The two ran up to her.
"Hey,are you okay?" Yusuke asked. The girl looked up at him. She had curly orangish blonde hair that was short in the back and got longer towards the front and large brown eyes and was very short, probably only a little taller than Genkai. She wore a red headband to keep her long bangs out of her eyes, a red vest over a white tank top, black pants, and gold armbands.
"Yes,I'm fine. I just twisted my ankle, that's all."she said. Both guys thought she looked somewhat familiar. Kuwabara quickly brushed that thought aside as he grabbed the young womans hands.
"I am the great Kazuma Kuwabara!If you would so kindly honor me by telling me your name, I will protect you with my life from this moment on!"he declared loudly. The woman scowled at him.
"You have five seconds to remove your filthy hands from me before I start debating wether to slit your throat or rip out your balls and feed them to you." Kuwabara quickly let go and stepped away. Yusuke laughed and held his hand out to the girl.
"I'm Yusuke Urameshi. Sorry about my friend, he's an idiot."he said. The girl took his hand and he helped her up.
"I can see that. I'm Kane Sohma." she said.
"Well, well, well. If it isn't the dimwit, the monkey, and the pyromaniac." the three looked up to see Genkai standing at the top of the steps, which Kuwabara and Yusuke suddenly realized wasn't as far away as they thought.
"Good afternoon to you too."Yusuke said sarcastically. Kuwabara finally caught on to the insult.
"Hey!I'm not a monkey!" Genkai ignored him and looked straight at Kane.
"So how is my favorite granddaughter doing?" Yusuke and Kuwabara's jaws dropped.
"Fine,I guess.And I'm not a pyromaniac." Kane said as she walked up the last few steps.
" Then why did you keep trying to set all those boys on fire every time they showed interest in you?"
"Groping doesn't count." Genkai sighed.
"Well, dimwit,monkey, are you just gonna stand there all day catching flys with your mouths or are you going to come up here? The fox and the psychopath have been here for half an hour." Kuwabara and Yusuke snapped out of the state of shock they were in before hastily walked up the steps after the two women. But Kuwabara,being the clumsy idiot he is, tripped and ended up falling on Kane. There was a poof of orange smoke,and the girl disappeared.
"What the hell?!" he shouted, making Genkai turn around and Kurama,Botan, and Hiei come outside. Where Kane should have been, there was now a large orange tiger that was growling at Kuwabara.
"Get off my clothes!" the tiger growled at the shocked idiot. Kuwabara recovered quickly.
"I'm not on your clothes!" he shouted. The tiger growled louder.
"Look down you idiot!" Kuwabara looked down, and indeed,he had been sitting on the clothes.
"hey!Why'd you stick your clothes underneath me!"The others sweatdropped. Kuwabara stood up and the tiger grabbed them in it's mouth. As it was walking back into the shrine, there was another poof of smoke, and in the tigers place stood the human,and completely naked Kane. Kurama turned around quickly while Hiei shut his eyes, and Botan whacked Yusuke and Kuwabara over the head because they were drooling. Kane quickly got dressed,a blush on her face.
"Well,I suppose we have some explaining to do."Genkai said sighing.
"So your cursed to change into an animal of the Chinese zodiac. But if the curse is on your family,why doesn't Genkai transform?"Yusuke asked.
"Because the curse is only placed on certain members of our family."Kane said.
"And also I wasn't born in the Sohma family, Kane's mother,my daughter, married into to it, not knowing about the curse."Genkai added. Kane sighed and fell back.
"Akito is going to kill me!"she growled as she lay on the floor with her armas spread out. The guys were about to ask who he was, when Botan spoke up.
"we really need to get started on this case boys. There are three unidentified demons wandering around Tokyo, and I need you to go find them and bring them to Spirit World. Kane will be coming with you." she said. Kane, who had just finished muttering'mybe if I stay away from Tokyo for a while he won't find out.' shot up.
"Hell no! I'd have to go see Akito!i ain't gonna go!"she shouted.
"I'm sorry Kane, but Koenma already decided. Plus, Genkai was the one who suggested it."Kane's jaw dropped before she turned to stare at her grandmother wide-eyed.
"You suggested-Genkai!You know what he might do to me! And it's not like I can fight him if he gets violent!I might kill him!"
"Hey old hag, why haven't you called her a stubborn idiot yet?"Yusuke asked as Kane continued to rant.
"Because she has a good point. Akito is the head of the souhma family, and is terminally ill because of his part of the curse." Genkai replied. She sighed and turned to kane,who was still ranting. She flicked her in the forehead, making her crash into the wall behind her.
"Ow! dammit old woman, what was that for?!"she shouted.
"If Akito tries anything, just fight back."
"But what if i kill him?"
"You'd be doing us all a favor." Kane just sat and sulked after this,barely listening as Botan explained the mission. Tommorrow they would go to Tokyo and attend Kaibara Highschool, where two of the demons were supposed to be at.
