Ranma walked down the street to the new flower shop, after school, fuming. “Why did I ever tell that stupid Sakura Kuwabara about my life?” he thought to himself angrily “I should've known she was going to tell her brother and his friends about my parents. Why did I even tutor that dummy? Stupid girl, stupid kindness of mine! And I was really looking forward to fighting Urameshi; he seemed like a worthy opponent.

“Ah well, at least I can spend more time at the flower shop.” Right before school ended Sakura had come running up to Ranma, informing him that Yuji and Kuwabara had backed out of the fight. “Just because they're chickens,” she had said, but Ranma knew better and quickly read the girl's mind and found out the real reason they'd backed out.

“Wha-“Ranma's thoughts were interrupted as something fell on his head, he held out his hand and a rain droplet fell upon it. “Rain?” he said out loud, at that point it started to sprinkle so he walked a bit faster to the flower shop.

Kurama and Hiei were in Kurama's flower shop that he'd just opened, Kurama was busy putting a new vase out because Hiei had broken one. “You should be more careful,” he scolded.

“Yes father,” Hiei said sarcastically “Now what were you saying earlier?”

“Oh right,” Kurama said, re-gathering his thoughts before sitting down behind the cash register “I was saying that Botan wrote a new book.”

“Did she?” Hiei said, taking a sip from his soda, not sounding the least bit interested “What was it about?” he took a long chug from his drink.

“Rape,” Hiei spat out the soda all over Kurama's face, who grimaced. “Lovely,” he growled, Hiei snickered as Kurama wiped his face off with a paper towel “Perfect, now I'm sticky, I just love having spit and coke all over me. Thank you.”

“You're welcome,” Hiei answered, Kurama gave him a cheeky smile and continued to wipe himself off.

“You know what?” He said “You always act like this when someone mentions Botan.” Hiei frowned.

“You need your head checked, Kurama” He growled “I think all that hair is suffocating your brain.”

“That's not funny,” Kurama snapped.

“It wasn't supposed to be,” Hiei retorted, their attention was turned to the door when someone walked in. He looked to be about fifteen with black hair and long bangs covering only his right eye, his eyes were blood red (Gee-I wonder who this is!-not.). He smiled sheepishly at the two men.

“Hello,” Kurama greeted him “Can I help you?” The boy nodded.

“Um, yes actually I was wondering, do you know any good apology flowers?” the boy asked.

“Girlfriend?” Kurama asked.

“Mother.” The boy replied.

“Well, any flowers are good for an apology,” Kurama answered “But maybe you should use her favorite flowers, do you know what those are?”

“Blue bonnets, lotus flowers, and roses.” The boy answered proudly, Kurama smiled.

“Well, I don't have lotus flowers or blue bonnets,” he replied “In fact I think those only grow in America, in...what state was that again?”

“Texas,” the boy said.

“Yes, that's it!” Kurama said snapping his fingers.

“Yeah...” the boy said thoughtfully “well, roses will do. Do you have pink?”

“I do,” Kurama answered “Roses and Baby breath?” The boy nodded “Alright then how many?”

“How expensive can you get?” the boy asked audaciously, Kurama and Hiei raised their eyebrows.

“Are you sure you know what you're doing?” Hiei asked, Kurama kicked his stool out from under him and he fell to the floor.

“Are you okay?” the boy asked Hiei, who glaring at Kurama.

“He's fine,” Kurama said hastily “I'll go and get started on your bouquet, now are you sure you want to get that expensive?”

“I have enough money in my wallet to buy this flower shop and everything in it...twice.” The boy answered with a daring smirk, Kurama was suddenly reminded of how Hiei acted. But something else was awfully familiar, he pushed aside the thought “Okay, I'll get started. What's your number and I'll call you when it's finished.”

“Uh, is it okay if I hang around here?” The boy asked glancing outside, Kurama followed and saw that it was raining hard outside, Kurama sweat dropped.

“It is raining pretty hard outside, so of course you can hang around here.” He answered “I'll go get started now,” he left into the backroom, leaving the two alone.

“What's your name, boy?” Hiei asked, surprised at himself for suddenly wanting to talk to the boy. He couldn't explain it, but he felt as though this boy was important to him, he didn't know him but felt as though he did.

“Ranma,” the boy answered, again Hiei felt like this boy was of some importance, just knowing his name made him want to know more about this dark haired boy name Ranma. “What's yours?”

“Hiei,” Hiei replied “What school do you go to?”

“That's a personal question, I think.” Ranma answered “I'm not sure I should tell you, you might be a pedophile for all I know.” The boy was bold, very bold. He didn't know what Hiei could do to him, `But' Hiei thought, `He doesn't seem the type who would care even if he knew.' Hiei smirked and shook his head.

“Why would I molest some kid?” he asked, Ranma smiled.

“The same reason all the other perverts do, lustful satisfaction.” He answered cockily “but even if you did try to touch me, I'd kill you in under a minute.”

“Well, I assure you, I'm not a pedophile.” He informed “I wouldn't touch another man, let alone a kid.” `But you'd rape a woman.' Hiei thought suddenly, he looked away from Ranma and stared at the floor.

“Sarayashiki Junior High,” Ranma said, ripping Hiei from his thoughts who gave him a questioning stare “You asked me what school I go to, and I answered. Sarayashiki Junior High, I'm in the eighth grade.”

“You go to the same school as my friend's kids.” Hiei said “Maybe you know them, Urameshi and Kuwabara.”

“Oh, yes I know them, Yuji, Yuki, and Konrad Urameshi and Kazuma and Sakura Kuwabara. I'm in the same class as the older ones, and I tutor Sakura. I don't really know Konrad.” Hiei nodded “I'm sorry to tell you, but Kazuma and Yuji get on my nerves, it's really just Yuji.”

“Yeah, they get on my nerves too, they act like their fathers.” Hiei said “but, Yuji is good at martial arts.”

“It doesn't matter if you're good at martial arts and act like a jerk,” Ranma put in .

“Yeah, that's true.” Hiei replied, they were silent for a while until Hiei broke it “So, what did you do to your mom?” Ranma grimaced.

“Well,” he started “I, acted out of my place...I acted like the parent.”

“How so?” Hiei asked.

“Well, see I'm kind of...protective of my mother,” Ranma replied slowly, as thought trying to find the right words “And, I don't like for her to go out anywhere without me. And today she said she was going somewhere and wouldn't be home when I got there from school, so I told her just to wait. She got kind of angry and told me she was going without me, and we got into an argument, I got pissed and snapped at her and left. I think I hurt her feelings...”

“I'm sure she'll forgive you,” Hiei murmured, Ranma stared up at him and flushed slightly.

“Y-you think so?” he asked, not really understanding why he wanted to know what this man, this stranger, thought. There was a strange connection, and it was making Ranma feel uneasy, but at the same time...quite at home.

“Yeah,” Hiei answered with a small smirk, bringing a grin to Ranma's face. Over the next thirty minutes the two talked about a lot of things, getting to know each other, not knowing or having the slightest clue that they were father and son.

“It's finished!” Kurama said cheerfully, walking in with a very large vase full of bright pink roses and baby's breath. Ranma smiled and straitened up from leaning over the counter, Kurama smiled back and began pushing buttons on the cash register. Ranma payed for everything and then pulled out his cell phone.

Thanks you very much.” He said with another smile “Oh, by the way, I was wondering if you're hiring...I think I'll have some free time after school from now on...so...”

“Oh!” Kurama said, pulling out an application form and handing it to Ranma “Yes, we are, that would be great if you could just fill this form out and bring it back, please...”

“Okay, would it be alright if I brought it back tomorrow?” Ranma asked slipping the form in his briefcase, Kurama nodded and waved as Ranma stepped out side, the vase in one hand and the cell phone to his ear with the other saying “Yes, could I have a cab on-“his voice was cut off as the shop door closed.

Kurama leaned on the counter, his head propped up on his elbow saying “That boy, just spent fifty thousand yen on one bouquet for his mother.”

“Reminds me of you.” Hiei said Kurama chuckled.

“Yes, he kind of does,” he agreed, glancing at Hiei “But he also reminds me of you.” Hiei cocked an eyebrow.

“How so?” he asked, Kurama chuckled and shrugged.

“Different ways, I guess.” He replied “I look forward to having him work here, he has a good head on his shoulders, but, I know I've seen him somewhere before...”

“Maybe you've seen him at the twin's school.” Hiei said, Kurama pursed his lips and shook his head “no, that's not it...Hm, ah well. Let's get back to work, well that's what I'd say if we had any work to do, but we don't...”

“Well, we're about to.” Hiei said “Because that vase is about to fall.”

“CATCH IT!”
