Chapter 6 Sleeping Demons


Kagome couldn’t stop crying, never again would she be able to go through the well and see all her friends. She knew she had had a month to get used to this fact from when Midoroko had informed the others after Naraku’s defeat but still it was hard to accept. As she kept sobbing amongst her mothers warm and comforting embrace though in pain from the separation she was becoming aware of something, something that had happened since the purification of the Shikon no Tama.

Whenever she and the Inugang had been hunting for the Shikon shards she could always see and sense where they were, their power calling her. Now she could feel the power inside her dormant but waiting for her to call upon it, it scared her. Not only that her senses seemed more refined, smells more clearer along with sounds.

She had appeared in the bottom of the well when she had returned, when she had stepped out of the shrine hut it was like she had been hit by a thousand voices, smells and even auras all at once, it over whelmed her but just as it quick as it had come, it went now subdued as is if the powers inside sensed she was not yet ready for such a sensory over load, it was if her miko powers had been multiplied several times over. Not that it hadn’t gone it was still there lingering under the surface just waiting to be called upon to be used. She was glad it had gone dormant for now not yet ready to cope with the after affects just yet.

Kagome whilst in the comfort of her mother arms was aware barely of Souta running to the front door and vaguely aware of him saying.

“Erm come in I don’t if my sister is in, though I’ll ask my mam.”

“Mam.”

“I’m in kitchen Souta.”

“Sister.!!”

And then a young women’s voice, “Oh my!”. Kagome then felt an usual aura, it was different not a demonic or holy but strangely like death but not like Kikyo something different. Kagome looked up and found herself staring at girl of about her own age, she had a cheerful disposition about her , it reminded her of young Rin. Just like Souta noticed she saw the tied up long blue hair, unusual pink eyes and dressed in pretty pink kimono and long wooden oar in one hand.

“Who are you?”

The girl swallowed nervously it seemed, Kagome had a feeling the woman was scared of her, but why she’d never even met her before.
The girl bowed and then spoke in a clear voice.

“Hello Lady Kagome it is an honour to finally meet you. My name is Botan and as you may be aware I am not human.”

Kagome nodded wanting Botan to carry on, by now she had stopped crying and decided to get up of the floor, with her mother helping her she sat down next to the dining table and invited Botan to do so.

“Here dear.”

Her mother passed her a cold damp cloth which Kagome promptly used on her face, to soothe her face red and swollen from all the crying.

“Thank you mama.”

“Would you both like some tea?” Mrs Higurashi asked her daughter and Botan as for Souta he sat down next to his sister still worried about her.

“Thank you that would be nice.”

“Yes thank you mama.”

A few minutes later they were all sitting around the table sipping on tea and waiting for the strange young women to carrying on talking.

“Please you were saying.” Kagome prompted Botan feeling a bit more stable now. Actually more as if she switched part of her self off, she knew she had to deal with certain things eventually but for some reason whatever the woman was going to say to her she would listen to for now, sensing it was important.

“Well as I said my name is Botan and I am from Spirit World and I am what you people would refer as the Grim Reaper, I escort spirits over the River Styx and so forth.”

“Oh my.” Mrs Higurashi thought her daughter sometimes get involved with all manner of different people.

‘So that’s why I can sense death in her, but why is she here.’, Kagome was feeling rather worried had she come for her but why she wasn’t even dead was it something to do with the Shikon no Tama.

“Anyways my boss is the ruler of Spirit World and he is called Prince Koenma.”

“Cool.” Souta peeped up which made Botan smile at him making him blush once more to his mothers delight and Kagome’s amusement.

“So why are you here then.”

Botan took a deep breathe, she had been thinking about what to say and thought maybe a quick and brief description would be best. So she explained about how there was 3 worlds, Ningenkai, Makai and Reikai (human, demon, spirit) and how there used to be barrier up, etc, etc.

“So that’s why I don’t sense as many demon auras.” Kagome murmured.

“Yes well, anyways when the barrier went up the need for priests and priestesses died out, most that are around today are more like caretakers than actual someone with actual spiritual powers. But sometimes demons unfortunately get pass the barrier and needed to be taken care of, that’s when my boss Prince Koenma set up his team called the Spirit Detectives, similar to your human police force, except in secret of course.”

Kagome mind raced on, sinking this new information, it sounded as her brother said rather cool.

“So why have you come to me, it sounds like you don‘t need my help?”

“Well that’s the problem you see, earlier today the spirit detectives went on a new mission and during the mission a spell was cast upon them and well they need your help to break it.”

“Me…”

“Yes you, I and Prince Koenma think that you will be strong enough to break the spell they are under.”

“I don’t know, I mean I only have just a little bit of training, I’m not sure if I’m able…”

“If it was Inuyasha in trouble you wouldn’t hesitate.”

Souta interrupted, Kagome blanched at this and then looked at her mother who smiled at her.

“Mam?”

“It is up to you Kagome, it is your choice. Just as it was your choice to complete the Shikon no Tama and go through the well of time.”

Kagome smiled at that, her mother always stood behind her giving her support to whatever she did. Suddenly a picture popped in her head, Inuyasha in one of his arrogant poses, the Tetsusaiga
in hand swung over one shoulder. “Come on wench, what are you waiting for?”

“Okay I’ll come then, but on one condition.”

“Oh thank you Lady Kagome, oh I don’t know how to thank you enough, I’m so worried about the boys. Oh Lady Kagome…”

Kagome put up her hand to stop Botan effusive thank you’s.

“There is one condition.”

“Anything? What is it?”

“Please can you just call me Kagome, I mean Lady Kagome is nice and kind of cool in a freaky sort of way but its just not me.”

Botan smiled, “I can do that very easily mmm Kagome.” Botan heard the stories of how nice and what big heart Lady Kagome had and she could tell they were true, just by being near the young woman she felt calm and touched by aura of warmth, she couldn’t wait till the guys met her.

“ If you could give me 10 minutes to quickly change and freshen up I’ll be down in a moment.”

Botan nodded and then as Kagome left he kitchen to go up stairs, she also said her goodbyes to Mrs Higurashi and of course Souta.

“ Do not worry Mrs Higurashi, Spirit World is safe unlike Sengoku Jidai period.”

“Thank you Botan but please keep an eye on Kagome she has just recently gone through some very turbulent things early today too and she is still upset, I know she putting on a brave face to help you but she is hurting still inside.”

Botan looked at Kagome’s mother and wondered out loud.

“So why are you letting her go with me.”

Mrs Higurashi smiled mysteriously, “ My father and I both believe my daughter was fated to fall down that well 3 years ago and of course meet all those friends including the half-demon Inuyasha, it was in her destiny just as I believe now it is now Kagome destiny is go to Spirit World and help your friends.”

And with that Botan was escorted out of the house and waited for Kagome, just as she said 10 minutes later Kagome came running outside, now wearing a small black skirt and a pale pink t-shirt on and some pretty sandals, you’d think she was going on a date if wasn’t for the bow in one hand and small case of arrows hooked over her back.

“Just in case.”

Kagome answering Botan’s puzzled look at her weapons which Botan just nodded back agreeing.

“Well lets go then.”

Botan jumped up on to her oar and offered Kagome a hand up to sit on, when Kagome was confidently seated, Botan opened a portal and they went through.

Yusuke and the others were still waiting in the room were his and Hiei’s bodies were being held, tensions were running high especially in Yusuke.

“Where the fuck can Botan be, how long does take to pick up one girl.”

“Patience Yusuke she should be back soon.” Youko commanded watching the young detective as he paced several times back and forth, Hiei was just sitting down cross-legged in the corner with his eyes closed seemingly to be mediating.

Kurama had gone to ask Koenma if had any more information on the where abouts of his body was and also any information on who attacked them on Youko’s suggestion more to keep the young man’s busy and focused on something. Kuwabara had gone to lie down for a while his strength still low.

As for Youko’s mind several things were also going around inside of him, one of course worry for Kurama and the other interest in the young priestess who they were about to meet. Though not the circumstances he had expected to meet the young women, he didn’t mind and he would make the most of it, as especially he would meet her face to face and not looking from inside Kurama. The door suddenly opened as Kurama walked back in.

“What news.”

“Have they found your body yet?”

Came from Yusuke and Youko.

“Mmm yes. Koenma’s man has so far tracked the attackers into Makai.”

“Makai!”

“Yes in Yomi’s kingdom apparently.”

“Yomi!”

The spririt detectives looked in shock at Kurama who in turn was staring Youko.

“I don’t believe that it had anything to do personally with Yomi, but I think he might have some knowledge who might.” Kurama hesitantly explained as for Youko his eyes narrowed as he thought.

“I believe you are right Kurama.”

“Well what should we do next.”

“We can’t do anything detective until we are at least restored to our bodies.” Hiei remarked eyes still closed but listening.

“Yeah yeah you’re right.”

Suddenly Kuwabara voice could be heard outside the coridor.

“Are you sure you won’t be my girlfriend.”

“Do you think that idiot is trying to chat up the nurses here again?” Yusuke shaking his head in annoyance at his friends ways, then the next thing he heard was a thud and, “Ouch Botan what did you do that for.”

“Hmmph, come this way Kagome and ignore the baka.”

Everyone’s ears perked up then at that and then the door opened, Botan walked in first face blazing in anger. Following was a young women, Yusuke eyes widened appreciatively at what the young women was wearing, his hand twitched as if possessed (AN: lol maybe Miroko huh). All Kurama was seeing was blue eyes which seemed subdued and also a lurking sadness in the back.

As for Youko well he did indeed look appreciatively at the young women, the long wavy dark hair which had an almost bluish sheen to it, he noticed also the weapon which she carried, the way one slim narrow hand caressed the bow and he found him self missing his acute sense of smell quite strongly at this moment, since they‘d turned into the spirits, Hiei, himself, Yusuke and Kurama had only a human smelling senses.. The way she walked aware of herself and surroundings, ‘hmm no normal ningen, she is used to battle amongst other things.’ He liked a girl who could take care of herself, they were more independent, more of a challenge. As for Hiei, suspicion of this woman was just on his mind.

It felt strange and familiar when Botan and herself had gone through the portal, the magic felt the same as the well’s magic. Spirit World wasn’t what she expected either, the place was calm and tranquil to her senses something she needed at this moment her heart heavy. Botan first flew over a large river which she promptly explained was the River Styx, Kagome could feel the aura even high as they were flying coming from the river. After a brief while Kagome could see a large fortress in the distance, as Botan flew closer large gates came into her view.

“The Gates of Judgement.”, she whispered.

“Yes how do you know that?” Botan looked back behind at Kagome in surprise.

“I don’t know I just do.”

“Hmm interesting, well then we get off here.”

Botan had now settled the oar down in front of the gates, both ladies jumped of just as the gates starting opening by themselves. Kagome followed quickly behind Botan who was walking at a fast pace, worry for her friends obviously getting to her, Kagome could feel the anxiousness in Botan as they walked down several long hallways growing. Finally they reached a large door with a red cross above it, the infirmary, which Botan walked through quickly, some giggling could be heard as they came around one corner were they came upon a man and 2 nurses. Kagome could see Botan scowling, ‘Mmm I wonder if it is her boyfriend.’, sensing the annoyance rising in the ferry girl.

“ Kuwabara you should be in bed resting!”

Kuwabara turned around not just because he heard Botan’s scolding voice but because of a low aura which almost crept on him. Though low he could sense the purity that the aura pulsed out and there was something else too, if wasn’t for the fact he knew that the girl was human he would of said it was demon in nature. ‘Mmm strange, I’ll ask the others what they think.’
Kuwabara now looked at the girl, ‘wow’.

“Would you be my girlfriend?”

Kagome couldn’t believe it she just giggled, it was liking he was channelling Miroko. She looked closer at him, well he wouldn’t win a beauty pageant that’s for sure, but what he lacked in looks he made up with a heart, it practically blazed from him.

“Ignore the baka Kagome, the boys are this way.”

Botan finally stopped outside a door and went to walk in.

“Are you sure you won’t be my girlfriend.”

Botan answered quickly with her oar to Kuwabara’s head.

“Ouch Botan what did you do that for.”

“Hmmph, come this way Kagome and ignore the baka.”, came from a scowling Botan.

Following Botan, Kagome first sight was the two beds which were currently occupied, she gasped as she recognised one of the men sleeping, why it was one of the demons that she had seen in the shop yesterday. As she looked around the room, her eyes widened as she saw the same man sleeping leaning against a wall, ‘what was going on’ she thought.

Then Kagome looked around the room she saw one demon seated cross-legged in the corner of the room he was scowling at her, though she couldn’t feel any jyaki coming from him she could tell he was a demon, his double too was asleep on the ground. It was strange from the two sleeping men she could feel a low level jyaki emitting from them but their ‘twins’ she didn’t know what else to call them at the moment, well she couldn’t feel anything from them, they felt blank to her. As she carried on perusing the room she then noticed the kitsune, her eyes went straight to the sides of his head were his long ears were, ‘kawai, I want to touch them’ and then echoing Yusuke her hands started twitching. ’ooh he’s got tails too.’

Not realising Kagome walked straight up to the Youko, were she looked at his ears with a great longing, Youko grinned and then twitched them on purpose, Kagome’s eyes filled with desire and then standing on her tiptoes she reached up to kitsune and stroked his ears, Youko at first was shocked and then he closed his eyes and started purring deeply, his tails swaying vigorously. Yusuke started laughing, he couldn’t believe it, the girl obviously showing no fear at grabbing the Youko, then he gasped as he realised something.

“Hey she can touch us.”

“When did you notice detective.”

“Oh this is excellent wait till I tell Koenma.” Botan rushed out the room.

“Why is it good that I can touch you.”

Kagome had stopped when she heard someone had exclaimed at her being able to touch the kitsune and then started to blush slightly too at what she in a unconscious reflex did, then the kitsune grabbed her left hand and kissed it gently as he looked at her with gold eyes, she hadn’t realised how beautiful he was her being so distracted by his ears before.

“Youko leave the girl alone.” A soft and gentle voice reached her making Kagome turn around.

“You’re here too?”

The gorgeous redhead with beautiful green eyes was now looking at her with sad smile and bowed courteously to her.

“As Botan’s disappeared I guess I’ll introduce us all and explain our present predicament.”

“Sure.” Kagome sat down on one of the remaining chairs.

“My name is Kurama and the one sitting on the ground presently scowling is Hiei,.” Pointing then to Yusuke and introduced him which Yusuke grinned back in response making Kagome flush slightly at his leery look. “And the kitsune that you are already friendly is also called Kurama - Youko Kurama to be precise.”

“Err hello it’s nice to meet you, my name is…..”

Suddenly the door slammed open and Koenma came storming in.

“Ah Lady Kagome it is an honour to finally meet you, my name is Prince Koenma.”

Kagome couldn’t believe when the small toddler with a binky in his mouth stopped in front of her and starting talking to her.
Kagome stood up and bowed to the baby with respect, though inside she was squealing ‘Kawaiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii.’

“Now has any one yet explained to you the nature of their curse yet.”

“Erm no Kurama I believe was just going too though.”

“Ah that’s okay I’ll explain it for you.”

For the next half of an hour Koenma explained what had happened to his team, which answered some of Kagome’s questions which she did have.

“Oh that’s terrible.” When she heard how Kurama’s body was stolen, Kagome went over and placed her hand on the young man’s shoulder offering comfort.

Kurama gasped slightly at the warmth he felt from the woman’s touch along with a slight tingle too. Koenma saw of course how Kagome could touch Kurama and asked if she could touch the rest, to his delight she could touch Yusuke and Hiei even though Hiei did flinch slightly when she did so, but that was more from annoyance then anything else.

Kagome curiously stared around the room then asked. “ I know Kurama’s body is stolen but where is Youko’s.”
Youko took over now saying how about 20 years ago when he was chased by a bounty hunter and got injured, Youko in his fox form fled to the Living World and his spirit combined with that of the unborn baby of Shiori Minamino. Where he was promptly born as Shuichi Minamino, though now known as Kurama to his team mates.

“So you have two share the same body?” Kurama and Youko nodded.

Kagome mind raced with her new knowledge, and she thought she lead a complicated life.

“Well now that’s out the way all that is left is to the break the curse at least anyways on Yusuke and Hiei.” Koenma pronounced amiably happy now that things will follow to plan hopefully.

“So all I have to do is kiss their spirits than their bodies.”

“Yes.”

“Are you sure this will work, I mean if it didn’t work with for Kuwabara are you sure it will work for me?”

“Reluctant to touch our bodies onna, scared that touching us will defile you some how.” Hiei sneered at Kagome, up to now the small demon had been quiet to her and to hear him talk with such disgust towards her, well it pissed her off. Up to now Kagome had been rather subdued she had had a busy day with a lot upheavals in her life to now readjust to. So when she talked back to Hiei with a bit of fire in her voice, well if her mam had been there she would of cheered.

“Sounds like you’re more annoyed that maybe this worthless baka onna can maybe do something you can’t.” Hiei’s face blazed.

“Now, now please every one just keep calm.” Koenma worried though Hiei didn’t posses any powers at the moment, he still could hurt the woman by touching her.

“So who’s first?”

“I am.” Yusuke practically shouted. “ I mean I am leader of group, I should go first to at least see that is safe of course.”

“Of course how gallant of you Yusuke to think of us.” The sarcastic tone from Youko making Yusuke flush and a brief glare back.

“Well than are you ready.”

Yusuke looked at Kagome with a grin now, making Kagome wonder just what the hell had she got into.

“You must release your spirit energy Lady Kagome whilst kissing Yusuke.” Botan explained to Kagome who nodded back.

“Remember what I said about titles Botan.”

“Oooops sorry.”

Kagome closed her eyes, took a deep breathe and then as she reopened her eyes she started to release her aura, remembering the slight training she had received from Miroko and Kaede. Not really aware of any one else in the room but Yusuke who she now was concentrating on, she didn’t hear the slight gasps coming from the rest, Koenma and Botan face filling with awe at the pink light glow coming from Kagome’s body, her hair started to move as if a gentle breeze was running through it, making Youko wanting to stroke it. Though because of their lack of senses at the minute, Yusuke being the closet and the rest following too could feel a slight tingle running through their body as if something warm was caressing their bodies, even Hiei felt it.

Kagome reached up to Yusuke face and cupped his face with one hand and then nervously kissed Yusuke’s lips gently as she did so she released her aura through him. Yusuke lips felt as if a soft feather was gentle touching him when Kagome first touched him, he wanted more and forgetting for a moment they were trying to break the curse he grabbed Kagome and then more forcefully kissed her back, first nipping her lips with his teeth, making Kagome opening her mouth in shock, his tongue darting in wanting to taste her, as for Kagome a tingle came from her lower regions that she didn’t think was because of her powers either, as she took Yusuke’s devastating invasion she then answered back almost as forcefully as Yusuke.

His hands were warm against her clothing as he moulded her close to him . Unbeknownst to the couple the pair were both glowing now, a strong blue aura from Yusuke which his sleeping body echoed on the bed. After a minute or so Kagome and Yusuke finally came up for air both panting heavily.

“You have… to let me…go.” Kagome panted out in shallow breathes, Yusuke eyes refocused on the room he‘d never reacted to a kiss like that before. He nodded and let go of his grasp on Kagome shoulders. Kagome walked over unsteadily her body tingling from kiss and also her heightened powers as she went to Yusuke still body, she bent over and then kissed him once more. Yusuke watching trying to control his body felt suddenly strange, his eyesight wavered for a moment and then a blackness overcame him.

Kurama watched with the others as Yusuke spirit body flashed and then disappeared into thin blue mist which then floated over to his body but first it went straight through Kagome’s body who gasped and released her lips from Yusuke’s.

Yusuke opened his eyes and realised he was now lying down on the bed. With a grin he shot up and yelled.

“Yeah I’m back in my body.”

“Ah thank goodness Yusuke finally we are getting some where, now Lady Kagome has to break the curse on Hiei and then we can go and save Kurama’s body.”

Koenma smiled relief at least another of his team was safe and active once more.
Kagome face was flushing bright red now, as Yusuke was looking at her with a very possessive look, his kiss affected her more than she thought it would, not even when she kissed Inuyasha had it felt like that. Suddenly a breath went down her neck, she turned slightly to find Youko looking at her.

“Mmm I can’t wait till my turn.” His husky voice made her shiver, ‘ oh mam what have I got my self into’, she thought once more. Then she glanced at Hiei who was staring at her coldly, he could of given Sesshoumara tips with that icy gaze she thought. She wasn’t looking forward to what she had to do next with him at all.

On the next chapter its Hiei’s turn and then to Makai were the Spirit Detectives have to confront Yomi about Kurama’s body snatchers. Oh and Kagome has to get a JOB!
