Old Friends and New Obligations

Chapter 9

"It's too quiet Kagome. Where is everyone?" Shippou asked innocently.

"I don't know Shippou…I just don't know. They're here alright but I can't figure out where." Kagome said.

"Isn't it obvious, girl." Hiei said," They're hiding like cowards inside the building."

"Hiei, I thought I told you to call me Kagome!!! Come on, say it with me Ka-go-me. It's not that hard!" Kagome said, more than a little annoyed.

"hn. You knew I was talking to you didn't you? Why bother with a name when a simple `girl' will suffice." Hiei said calmly.

"Well……It's common courtesy dammit!!!!"

"Whatever. We have company."

Even as he said it Kanna appeared before them, issuing a challenge with her cold eyes to anyone who thought that they could best her.

"Okay guys action time." Kagome yelled as she, Inu Yasha and Hiei took off for the house. The others split into their groups too and waited for Kanna to make her first move. Two doors on either side of our heroes slide open to release an almost endless stream of demons onto the group. Yusuke and Miroku took one side while Sango and Kurama took the other, each pair giving their all to give Sesshoumaru, Shippou, Kouga, and Kuwabara time to destroy the small demon girl. Kuwabara was up close swinging his spirit sword like a mad man trying to keep her busy.

Shippou had created copies of himself and was trying to distract her. Sesshoumaru and Kouga stood back and looked for an opening in which to strike. Kuwabara somehow managed to land a hit thanks to Shippou's clones. Kouga took the opportunity to race in and take Kanna's mirror, leaving her easy prey for Sesshoumaru's claws. Kanna fell to the ground, bleeding from the massive wound Sesshoumaru had given her. She made no death speeches or threats of revenge she simply died and turned to dust take quickly blew away in the wind.

Kanna was dead but that did them little good as the fighters were forced into a small circle by the never ending string of demons issuing from the side doors. Sango was worn, she could barely lift Hiraikotsu. Miroku was holding out. Yusuke was beat to a pulp but, as usual, still fighting. Kurama was the only one in that group with an injury. Sesshoumaru, Kouga, Shippou, and Kuwabara joined them in what looked to be a nearly impossible fight for their lives.

Inside the house, Kagome, Inu Yasha and Hiei raced along the hallways toward a large shard that Kagome was sensing.

"It's just ahead." She said as they emerged in a large hall. Naraku's voice greeted them.

"Welcome Inu Yasha. Kagome is here as well? Well, good evening to you as well young miko. And you brought the fire demon along, wonderful, this should be quite entertaining." Naraku materialized in front of them and, with a smirk, blasted the miko back into the wall with a charge of dark energy. He laughed.

"Hah. So weak after such hard work. I am disappointed Kagome. I had hoped you would put up more of a fight."
