Yu Yu Hakusho Fan Fiction / InuYasha Fan Fiction ❯ Blue Black Fur ❯ Chapter One ( Chapter 2 )
I figured no one would bother to read until it had a few chapters. This chapter probably has no real relevance to Kagome. I'm trying to improve my writing skills by making giving my characters more depth. As well as making my story longer rather than skip around through years at a time. So if it seems boring at times. Sorry.
Helen: It's good to hear when someone appreciates your hard work. Thanks. 'When Foxes Run Free' will probably take another couple days to get updated.
ptbear: Yeah I will later in the story.
Lilbakaookami: Those are definitely awesome books.
Thank you to all my reviewers.
Chapter 1
Raid loped through the forest at a leisurely pace. His step was light as he ran. A dead goat was swinging from the strong grip of his jaws. He had caught the creature at the edge of the forest. It seemed that the goat had escaped its paddock. All it took was a strong pounce to break its neck. It was his job to feed his mate while she fed his kit. It had been about a month since Kagome's birth. Sasha had almost regained all her strength but Kagome needed to be protected.
His kit was his reason for being in such a good mood. Her condition seemed to have improved. Kagome had nearly doubled in size. Her scant fuzz had grown into a thicker, silky black coat. The ears that had drooped before now were perked up high on her head. The only thing that worried Raid was that Kagome's eyes were only barely opening. He had a bad feeling that she may be blind. Sasha didn't know of his fear. He didn't want to give her any stress. Especially since he didn't have any other basis for his suspicion. The two foxes had to half guess at the detailed information on their kit's development. A cub born of the union of two foxes was a rare occurrence. Only heard of happening a few times.
He picked up his pace as his den came into view. When he reached Raid had to back in so that the goat's body would fit. He turned back around after getting inside. The birthing chamber wasn't where he needed to go anymore. After a couple of days, when Sasha got stronger, she and Kagome were moved to a sleeping chamber. It was much larger and had a soft bed made from a thick and very soft moss. The plant life was kept under control and healthy by the two foxes powers.
Neither Raid nor Sasha had the direct power over plants. But all spirit foxes had that power to some extent. But if a fox wasn't born of the plant element they had another. Sasha's was fire. While Raid's element was wind. The element they controlled seemed to reflect their nature. Sasha was wild and untamed. Anything she felt was expressed passionately. And usually aggressively. Her attitude tended to allow her to rush in headfirst in every situation. Raid wasn't so rash. At least not physically. He was more carefree and playful. Only when a tough situation arose did his attitude become calculated and his emotions guarded. Any other time he didn't think at all when he did, or usually, said something.
Walking inside the room he set the goat down next to the entrance. He flexed his jaw to ease the stiffness from carrying the goat's dead weight. He looked on as Sasha gave Kagome a tongue bath. The small kit protested with sharp mews. She didn't try to move away like another kit might do. Raid had never seen her move with his own eyes. Just when he woke up at dawn on some days he saw the kit out in the tunnels a small distance from the chamber entrance. He had to get up and bring her back to the safety and warmth of Sasha's body. Sasha didn't know about Kagome's nightly romps.
The vixen finished her vigorous licking and bounded over to Raid's side. She gave him a quick lick on the side of his muzzle before going to eat. The goat was gone in a matter of minutes. Horns and all. After licking her jowls clean she picked her kit up by the scruff of her neck. Raid led the way out of the den and out into the open. It was time for their kit to experience the outside world.
The pair of spirit foxes with their kit made a short walk to a forest clearing. There, Sasha set Kagome down. When she turned she was met with the sight of her now humanoid mate. Raid was stretching his arms over his head. It felt good to be in his natural form. But he did have a great fondness for his human form as well. And even humans themselves. He found them wholly fascinating. And Sasha mocked him to no end for it. She also transformed into her human state. It had been nearly five months since she'd last been in this form. One day it seemed as if she couldn't change. Only a few days late they had noticed the change in scent that announced her pregnancy. Aside from the two months she'd already been in fox form, she had to stay that way for her whole term.
Raid's form was only a few inches shy of seven feet. The length of his hair reached to mid-back while the bangs reached to his chin to frame his face. His eyes were a bright yellow color. He had the customary fangs and claws. The tail he had as a fox showed up in this form as well. Instead of having human feet he had a pair of fox paws. His ears, which were hidden by his hair, were human like except with pointed ends. The only thing he wore was a pair of baggy cotton pants that were colored a deep forest green.
Sasha was half a foot shorter than her mate. Her pure white hair reached all the way to the base of her fox tail. The tail was as white as her hair. Her bangs were long and fell over her eyes almost hiding them from view. They were a dark honey color and glowed behind the hair. She had claws and fangs just like her mate. The only difference was that her claws her black. Her outfit was a blood red tunic top and a pair of cotton pants the same color. Her human like feet were bare.
The shorter female pounced on her surprised mate. Raid landed flat on his back. His surprise was brief and he used their momentum to end up over Sasha. She turned onto her belly to push off the ground with her hind legs. Her mate made a wild leap to catch her. But she just rolled out of the way. He smashed into the ground slightly dazed. She climbed onto his back and pulled his arms into a full nelson. He got up from the ground and tried to shake her off. After running in circles and twirling around he got to dizzy to stand anymore.
Sasha chuckled while jumping off Raid's back. He dropped down onto his belly unable to move. She rolled him over on his back. The male pulled his mate to rest on top of his chest. Her head was tucked under his chin. They both watched Kagome walking aimlessly. Actually the small cub was working on standing up straight. She was bent at the legs with her belly nearly scrapping the ground and her tail dragging behind her. The unsteady gait caused her to fall down not to far from the couple.
Chuckling Raid watched as his kit tried to pull herself back up. Sasha rolled off him to sit on the ground. She changed back into a fox and bit him in the thigh. He immediately shut up and gave her an apologetic look. Getting up from the ground he reached over to push Kagome to her feet. Before he could get too close she whipped her head around. The pup gave the most threatening growl she could muster. It was low, rumbling, and not very threatening at all. At least not coming from a kit that size. Raid almost started to laugh again. But he just put up his hands and backed off. He sat down next to his mate.
"You hear that. She's quite the little spitfire."
Sasha grinned around her muzzle. <Of course. She's my kit after all.>
"Yup. All yours." He chuckled.
<We can only hope. I pity the child if she inherits too much of your oh so wonderful characteristics.> Her voice practically dripped with sarcasm.
Raid gave her a look of mock hurt. "Now look what you've done. You've hurt my feelings."
She gave him a quick lick on the cheek. "Feel better."
"Yup."
They turned as Kagome barked sharply. It seemed as if she was mastering walking. Her movements were a bit jerky but she was moving fast enough. She was occupying her time with trying to catch a wind tossed leaf. The happy couple watched their kit's many attempts at pouncing on its elusive prey. How she even knew where it was wasn't clear to either of them. Her eyes were not even half open. After a near half hour of trying she finally tired out. Panting slightly Kagome stretched out on her belly. Putting her head between her paws she fell asleep.
Raid snickered slightly. His mate, Sasha, was also enjoying a good sleep sprawled out on his lap. He took a quick glance at his sleeping offspring. 'I guess you could never say she was persistent.'
He shook the grown vixen awake before changing into a fox. She got up and gently padded over to the kit. While they walked Kagome never woke from her sleep. Even though she was dangling from her mother's jaws. The family got into the den and headed to the sleeping area. Sasha settled down with Kagome against her belly. Her four tails curled against her stomach to keep the kit warm. Raid took his spot curled around his mate from behind. His five tails were fanned over her body to keep his mate warm. He watched the two females before sleep overtook and he joined them in sleep.
Was it boring? In any case the chapter did serve a purpose in a way. The point was to try and develop Sasha and Raid's characters. So you would know a little more about them. Parents tend to influence their child's development like ninety percent of the time. Did anyone think Raid came off as being critical and mocking? When I look back at the chapter it almost seems that way. If you think so that wasn't really the intension. But it can't be helped. Now go review I want to hear your opinions.
