Kagome knew she was dead. She knew this simply because she wasn't in any pain any more. She suddenly felt another presence next to her, she looked over, a pretty girl who looked about her age standing there, she had blue hair and pink eyes, she had a kind but sad expression on her face. Kagome turned back to the image in front of her, Naraku raping her lifeless body; she still didn't understand how he had gotten through the well. The girl looked at her.

“We need to go; I'm Botan by the way.” She held out her hand to Kagome, she looked at it before taking her hand.

“Thank you, are you death?”

“Yes, but I have someone that you need to meet before we put you to peace.”

“Um ok, why don't I look like what I did when I died?” Botan took her time to think of an answer.

“There is horror in death to those who die painfully, we did not think that the dead needed to be reminded of how they died. So we chose to give a - less disturbing form for the dead. We must go,”

 

Kagome took one last look at the scene before her before she turned to Botan and took her hand again before following her through the portal that Botan opened. She found herself in an office surrounded by three demons and a boy her age. At the desk in front of her was a baby sucking on a pacifier. She looked around her surprised at her surroundings.

“Wow… this isn't what I expected.” Kagome muttered.

“Kagome Higurashi?” The baby spoke and one of the demons looked startled at her name, having not recognized her at first, but did now.

“Yeah?” she said warily, not liking his tone.

“You are the time traveler Miko yes? The Guardian of the Shinkion-no-tama?”

“Yeah, so? What of it?” She just wished that she could sleep.

“We have a proposition for you; we will bring you back to life so that you can become a spirit detective, how does that sound?” he said smiling, she just looked at him. Then said as clearly as she could.

“No.” the baby actually took out his pacifier looking startled before putting it back in his mouth.

“What do you mean `no'? Do you realize that you'll be dead? You won't see your friends in the feudal era again, or your friends or family in this time. Is that what you really want?”

“Yes. I just want to rest. I know that they can all take care of themselves and each other, they never needed me that much.”

“I'm sorry but I cannot allow you to stay dead Kagome, the Jewel and I will not choose another Guardian. You must live.” Said a beautiful woman, suddenly appearing smiling gently at Kagome. Kagome recognized the woman immediately.

“Midroko, please don't make me do this! Just let me stay dead, please!” Kagome pleaded.

“My child, would you wish this on another? Will you let the dark miko win? If you choose death she will get this half of your soul, is that what you want? She will drag InuYasha to hell just to spite your memory, she will kill your son.” Kagome looked up at that her face closed completely. It was only seconds but it felt like minutes before she spoke.

“She will not get Shippo.” She turned to the baby and said formally, “I accept your offer to become a Spirit detective and ask to be returned to life on one condition, will you bring my body here so I don't regain consciousness where I died.”

“Of course, Botan bring her body back here.”

“Yes Lord Koeman,” she said before leaving through a portal.

“So can I be introduced to my new team mates? Or do they remain nameless?”

“Oh, right… well that one is Kazuma Kuwabara,” he said pointing at the tall guy with orange Elvis hair, next was a very hansom kitsune avatar. “He is Shuuichi Minamino or Youko Kurama as his kitsune half is called, he prefers just Kurama though, the short one with black hair is Hiei Jaganshi, he's a-.” Kagome interrupted him,

“A forbidden child, fire/ice to be exact. Nice to meet you,”

“Hn,” was all the reply she got back. Koeman spoke again introducing the last member of the team.

“And this is the leader of the team, Yusuke Umurashi; he's a Mazu (sp?) demon.” Yusuke stepped forward,

“Kagome, I'm so so sorry, I should have been there-.”

“Well you weren't. I haven't seen you for four years Yusuke, get over it.”

“But-.” He was interrupted by Botan bringing Kagomes body back, they were shocked at the state of it, her body was a mess, covered in blood and rags, deep lacerations covered her as well as a hole through her stomach. Yusuke yelled at the top of his lungs causing the demons to wince slightly.

“Who the fuck did that to you?”

“Shut up Yusuke, it doesn't matter anymore,” they were shocked at her calmness,

however Midroko smiled.

“Your lack of hate is what makes you the most pure miko in history, I am proud of you my child,”

“I am not so pure anymore Midroko, he took that.” She said quietly, but with their demon hearing all but Kuwabara heard this. They were outraged at this, no one should be taken against their will, let alone killed while they were being raped, how could someone do this?

“I know child, I saw everything,”

“Then why the hell didn't you stop him?!” Yusuke screamed at Midroko, she just looked at him.

“Do you know who I am boy? I make up a quarter of the Shinkion-no-tama, the Jewel of four souls, me and three demons. I am dead, have been for near a thousand years now, the only way the Kagome knew who I was is because I spoke to her in her dreams, I train her.”

“But I failed, I didn't protect the Jewel, I let Naraku get it,” Kagome said quietly, she looked up and spoke to Koeman, “Look can you fix my body?”

“Yes, but we will have to make you part demon. What sort-.” She interrupted him.

“Red Kitsune.”

“We can do that, any particular reason why?”

“My son is a red Kitsune. If I'm already part Kitsune, then the adoption ceremony will be easier.” The others were stunned at this; she wanted to adopt a kitsune? But all Mikos hated demons; their sole purpose was to destroy them. This girl was something else. Midroko stepped forward, as some ogres gathered up her body to take it away.

“Child, it is time to tell you that you are not Kiyko's reincarnation… you are mine.” Kagome just stood there before saying,

“Why didn't you tell me earlier? For nearly two years I put up with being compared to that clay bitch, thinking I was nothing but her reincarnation, a `cheap copy'. And why the hell do I look exactly like her?!”

“Because it wasn't time for you to know, and the reason why you look like her is simply because she had the Shinkion for so long. And my dear? You are much better then she ever was, and much more powerful. In fact you are more powerful then me.”

“More power- wait, I can't be your reincarnation, your soul is in the Shinkion, it can't be in me… can it?” she said puzzled. The others were just as confused. Midroko smiled at Kagome.

“That's right, so in return that makes you the Shinkion-no-tama embodied, I had to ask King Enam to allow my soul - our soul - to be reincarnated so that the Shinkion would have a fit guardian since the last one failed so badly, and yes you do have more power then me when I died, our soul has had nearly a thousand years experience while I only had my life time.”

“Oh… ok, how long `til my body is fixed?”

“Should be about now,” Koeman said as the ogres walked back in with Kagome's body, laying it gently on the floor the ogres left silently. “You have to be changed into a demon while you're awake, I'm sorry but this will hurt.” He nodded to Botan she placed a hand on Kagomes spirit and the other on her body. The spirit disappeared into her body. Kagome sat up, and moved so she was leaning against the desk. Koeman then put a hand on her shoulder, giving her an apologetic look he let his power channel into her body, nothing happened for a seconded, then she started to convulse in pain, she bit her lip hard enough to draw blood so that she wouldn't cry out. Her body changed slowly red ears appearing through her hair, her hair got crimson streaks the same colour of her ears, and she also grew a tail the same colour as her hair and ears. She fainted as the convulsions stopped.
