~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"DAMN IT KAGOME!!" Inu Yasha says scouring as he climbs up clumsily from the well "Get your ass back here! We have shikon shard to collect!"
Kagome, already half way up the stairs of the well, turns around slowly… twitching.
We, WE! She stomps down the stairs "No, not we… YOU! All you care about is this "SHIKON NO TAMMA" when I have a TEST to get to!"
Now in Inu-kun's face she gets a "stuck-up" attitude. Inu-kun somewhat cowering still hanging from the well's side. Suddenly he becomes enraged.
Standing on the edge of the well, Inu Yasha towers over Kagome "All you ever care about is your stupid tests! We have to get this journey done and I for one will not…"
Baka "Kagome says in a disgusted way. She pushes one of his legs back and guess what, he falls into the well, barely catching the siding. Kagome looks down into the well and grins. Inu Yasha hangs on the edge of the well,
"You wouldn't dare!"
Kagome smirks happily "SIT!" She yells in vain.
Wench!!…. "Inu Yasha slowly trails off"
~+~Feudal side of the well~+~
Inu Yasha lands on his back with a big "THUD". He gets up… groaning and slowly climbs the vine infested well of the past
It is a quite spring morning, chilly in-fact, but nothing of a serious frost. The trees were not in bloom but very close. Slowly trudging back to camp, perhaps a few hops on the way he sits down next to the burnt out fire. Shippo, Kirara, and Sango all sleep in a lose bundle. Miroku, asleep leaning against a tree close by.
Inu-kun sits down close by and lays a deep angry sigh.
Inu Yasha says to himself "Why won't she listen! I knew there was something wrong with the sent there."
Popping one eye open Miroku asks "Did she not come back?"
"No" he says angrily "She didn't even let me!"
Miroku says calmly "Did you tell her?"
"Tell her what?"
Miroku has a half angry half worried look "What you sensed! You dumb founded pig" standing up he takes his staff pointing it at Inu-kun "Go tell her, maybe its more important than we think!"
Inu Yasha mutters loud enough for Miroku to hear, "That stupid wench wouldn't listen even if I wrote it down"
"And what if she's in DANGER! Then what, are you just going to stand back and watch! Go find her and TELL her!"
Getting up angrily clenching his clawed fists "I DON'T NEED TO!
GOT TALK TO HER YOURSELF!!" He runs off.
Sango lays there, her eyes open she looks up toward the standing Miroku
"What was it he sensed?"
Sitting down Miroku only sighs, "I can feel it too, a strong demon aura… coming from the other side of the well."
~+~Present side of the well~+~
Kagome, satisfied with her job, walked out of the well house and onto the shrine property. Setting her bow next to the well she took in the spring air and it felt good. Her life had been so hectic with demons and the stench of their fowl flesh. She had her school pack ready so she took a small stroll around. Ending at the tree. It had been so long since this journey started… It was strange to think she was so strong from before. She looked at the tree, then her palm, what had she become? Did she even know herself anymore?
Sota, her little brother, had just come out of the house "Kagome?"
She looked over quickly and gave a warm smile.
Sota runs up to her "It's been a long time since we have even talked. You wanna walk me to school?"
"Sure"
They were waved off by Okaa-san and grandpa they walked slowly because they had the time and it had been time for them to catch up. He was sure to tell ALL the adventures he had had when she was gone. One was when him and Buyo were out and were attacked by a fairly good-sized poodle. Buyo had escaped his grasp and had got him good on the face and back. He easily slid through the dog's attacks. And he swore his eyes gleamed. Kagome only smiled and acted interested. She found that his "adventures" were boring, but It made her happy to see him shine with pride.
His school was first so he ran off to his classes, even though he was early.
Kagome went on walking. Her school wasn't that far off… but something else was on her mind other that the test. Some thing was following her. She sensed it, but wasn't sure. She thought it must have been Inu Yasha up to something. But that thought passed, she knew he wouldn't have followed her this long without coming out.
The last corner `till her school… and they appeared. In front of her two young men. It was Kurama and Hiei.
~+~Flashback~+~
((Well, It's not a flashback of "this" story but of how Kagome met Kurama and Hiei.))
Kagome watched the rain trickle down the fogging windows of her class window. It was almost time to go home, about a half hour. There had been another school that came today and they had those students moving through each room at a half hour at a time. Students left and right everywhere. The next group was coming in and the teacher had everyone sit down. This group was small about six or seven students. Each one would come up and introduced themselves. Kagome somewhat was listening, she was scribbling down some notes she had been missing until she heard a name that struck her.
"Hello, My name is Minamino Shuiichi"
This name rung a strange bell and she listened to his every word. He had red hair that was about lower back length. She examined it; his hair looked so soft she could have sworn she could touch it and felt the warm softness it emitted. His eyes were a deep green that stuck out like a blade of green grass in a gravel pit. As the students finished they stood back against the whiteboard. Kagome had been fixed on Shuiichi, but she wasn't the only girl who had given him attention. Almost half the girls were giggling as he stood waiting for the others to introduce themselves. Kagome's was much different compared to the giddy schoolgirls.
They had finished introducing themselves and now they had less then twenty minutes to socialize. All the girls seemed to be huddled together, trying to get the courage to the causally talking Shuiichi.
But Shuiichi went first. He came and talked to Kagome. At first they had talked about various school things. Kagome felt perfectly comfortable with him and they had a few laughs too. She could feel his power and wondered what he was and class was over before they knew it. Before they left he was sure to tell her something.
"Kagome, Ill meet you after class outside… I will walk you home, so we can talk."
"Umm, ok?" Kagome blushed, not out of her likeness of Shuiichi, but of the stares of angry school girls watching them walk out.
Shuiichi whispered into her ear, making sure no one could hear "You can call me Kurama in more likely terms… you will understand fairly soon."
It didn't take Shuiichi… err… Kurama to be taken roll for and sent home. He just said he would be walking and they believed him. Kagome waited patiently in front of the school. "His aura… it almost seems demonic," she thinks to herself "I can sense it. What does it mean and what does he want with me? Does he know about the well… maybe."
"Kagome!" Kurama came out of the school jogging a bit. "Sorry to keep you waiting."
"Don't worry about it."
It had stopped raining, but the clouds still loomed in the sky. They talked briefly about fun things. About family and about how life was. She was getting comfortable to the name Kurama. They were not far from her house when they stopped and Kurama said something a little strange.
"I been monitoring a strange signal; it is being admitted from the Higarashi shrine. Do you know anything about it?"
Kagome was surprised and confused at the words, but fearful of what they meant. "What? What do you mean signal?"
"I mean the well."
Kagome was shocked, how did he know? She grasped her thoughts though and began questing him. "Why should you care about the well?! "She started to become furious and she flailed about.
Kurama placing his hand on her shoulder with enough strain to keep her still "I mean you no harm; we must talk for a great power may be about."
Kagome suddenly became calm. She told him that he better explain everything… and kindly he did. He talked about how Koenma-sanma had ordered him that he had found the strange signal and that it most likely was a void in time. It needed to be closed up if it was unnecessary, before some human decides to play with time. He also mentioned that a powerful demon had slipped from the demon world and was in hiding. He was looking for this gap and it was either kill the demon or close the gap.
Kagome listened to his words carefully and explained her side. That she had been collecting shards of a jewel called the "Shikon no Tama". How she had teamed up with a half-breed Inu Yasha and the others. How Naraku had been all behind it and the powers that the jewel possessed. He listened and seemed to understand the importance of the gap.
He walked her to her house and they waved each other off. Kagome wondered if she would ever meet the boy again… she would find out soon enough.
Kagome slept uneasy that night, tossing not being able to sleep and when she did shut her eyes, something disturbed her. It was a dark outline of a human. It had terrifying wings, that of a dark demonic sort. It's cracked laughter made her shiver.
Kagome clasped her hands together "That's it, I need a walk," she said to herself.
She didn't change, just slipped on her fuzzy slippers and sneaked out the door. She felt the cold crisp air bit the flesh of her face… but she didn't mind. Some demons made her skin crawl more than this. She walked toward the tree… It always made her feel at peace. Clasping her hands together around the jewel that dangled from her neck, a warm breeze swirled around her.
Just then she heard it, something was watching her… it had cracked a branch. She could feel its immense power… but where. Where was it! She stirred franticly… where was it! Then an evil crackled laugh came from the tree. She looked to the tree and there was the black figure, a human figure, but it was admitting such immense power!
She took a step back, but the thing spread it's horrible demonic wings and flew itself out of the tree. He flipped gliding with speed and grace and landed behind her. She hand no time to turn around. For when she did he was at a gut wrenching speed, with his demon like claws ready to rip at her heart. She moved as quick as she could to the side. She barley misses the attack… but he gouged her right shoulder.
She collapses… the pain was so horrible, she couldn't take it. Her shoulder burned with the pain as the blood dripped through her hand that held the wound. He took his time walking toward her, licking his blood soaked hand. She squirmed as he did. He grinned with pleasure and grabbed her by the throat slowly picking her up off the ground. All he did was crackle his laugh as she struggled for air.
Then in a blinding flash of black Kagome was gone out of his hands. The figure blinked and his arm split of right below his elbow with an explosion of blood and flesh soon after. All he did was crouch down to his knees holding his gushing arms.
Farther away was a short man with a black cap and a baggy white type collar. His hair stood up and was black. Only for a small ring of white that spread above his headband. He was holding Kagome to his side and crouching with his sword in hand, bloody from the assault. Hearing from the distance someone running up the shrines stairs was Kurama. He quickly passed the thing that hovelled over his own lost arm and was near Kagome and the short man in a short time. The man had let go of Kagome.
Kurama kneeled down by Kagome "Are you all right Kagome-san?"
Kagome nodded. She was horrified when she saw the creature get up, cracking his ugly laugh. His arm slowly slid toward him, it rejoined at the broken joint and it cracked and squirmed as it reattached it's self. The little man readied his sword as the creature faced them.
"Well Hiei, are you ready?"
"Why do you ask?" he said in his cold voice.
The creature thudded toward them with power more than speed now. Hiei and Kurama were ready to doge his quick precision attack. Kurama dogging left and right finally revealed his rose and slashed the thorny whip for his heart. The creature bounded up and using its wings took an aerial assault on him. He beat Kurama down with his fist, pounding on his gut driving him into the shrines tiles, shaking the earth. Hiei lunged at him, stopping his assault on Kurama, but even for Hiei it was a task to keep up with.
Giving Kurama time to recover from his gut blows Hiei attacked the man-demon. Slicing with his sword at the creature it seemed to move easily out of its way. He snickered at Hiei's attempts and seemed to enjoy the fun. Hiei become furious and finally went for a deathblow, bad mistake. The demonic thing evaded his sword and punched him straight in the gut. Piercing some of his skin he punched up, Hiei went flying several feet before hitting and sliding on his back. He lay helpless on the shrine ground.
Kagome was watching, she knew she had to do something… her bow! She had left it next to the well. If only she could get up. Her arm was stinging, but not as bad as before. So she dragged herself towards the well. She could barley walk, but managed to.
Grabbing her bow she picked it up. Kurama was doing a decent job holding the creature off. Taking aim was hard, her right shoulder had been severed, it was her aiming arm. ((I think I got the directions right… I checked the manga)) Her bow rattled as she drew it up, she winced. Pulling the arrow back was easy, but could she hold long enough to get a good aim. Shaking, she took aim for the human figure.
Kurama noticing this before hand. He knew she only had one shot, her energy was depleting and she could barely keep a straight head. Jumping in patterns trying to get the creature in a solid position, this was Kurama's flaw. Apparently he thought this demon-type creature was low-class, and perhaps stupid… he was not. Jumping back the creature countered his movements and clasped onto his throat with his jaw. He was biting his neck. Kurama's legs buckled and he was frozen with pain and fear. Kagome couldn't hold it any longer, she let the arrow fly.
As it speed towards the beast it seemed to swerved, slowly gaining a larger blue glow. The creature was to consumed in Kurama's pain to notice, and by the time he did, it was too late. Piercing through his left side, it was suppose to target his heart, but it was off. More above his heart it pierced right below his collarbone.
He let go off Kurama and the creature screeched in agony as he hovelled at the arrow through his chest. The blood tainted the shrine's tiled property. Kurama had collapsed on the ground, still bleeding and his mind was blank, his eyes were dead, and his soul had been sent to sleep. The creature was, in all manners… pissed. Not being able to take the arrow out because of its spiritual power it turned to well, where Kagome had collapsed. She was conscious; she was in horrible pain as the creature stomped forward.
All this noise had come up a racket, and it didn't go unnoticed. Dogs barked, people yelled, and occasional cars went off. An unlikely hero was about to arise. From out of the house came grandpa… with a shotgun. He jabbered a bit wonder what was going on, getting everyone's attention. The man-type-demon turned around, stopping his pace towards Kagome. Grandpa yelled with a scared lil' girls intentions, but he fired two rounds into the creatures gut.
The creature had become so tired, he could barely regenerate. His stomach was slowly coming back together but, not at the rate his arm did. The demon-man cracked his ugly laugh and departed into the early dawn. They had fought the whole night.
Her Grandpa and mother were now both up and rushed to Kagome. They barked at her trying to get an answer, Was she safe? All it did was prolong her headache.
"I'm fine" she finally said, alil' irritated. Wobbling up her mom and grandpa tried to support her. "But Kurama," she said pointing at the bloody body that lay on the shrine. He had turned to his side, he was conscious now. Coughing up blood it still trickled from his neck, where he was bit. "We have to help him." She continued. Her mother and grandpa went to Kurama and help him into the house where they stopped the bleeding so they could send him to the hospital. Kagome looked back to where Hiei lay, he was gone! She went in after her mother, hopping he was all right.
The morning had come and it was painful for both. Kagome's grandpa had purified Kurama and he was sent to the hospital for his wounds. He seemed to sleep after the purification; his neck wound was easily fixed. Kagome was purified but it was more painful, she was conscious and the demon wound was deep. Her arm was bandaged and slinged. The shrine was purified and cleaned that afternoon. The sent of Kagome's blood had reached the feudal era, and a guest was on the way.
Kurama was out of the hospital quickly. He had come to the Higarashi that evening! His neck had a large cotton bandage on it and his stomach was wrapped. They greeted and they seemed on good terms.
"I'm sorry." Kagome said finally, here head hanged down.
Kurama looked a little surprised and then he smiled. "There is nothing to be sorry about."
"Yes, I got you hurt." She started to cry "I'm so sorry it's all my fault you could have been killed and…"
Kurama crouched to look into her eyes "I came her on my own accord Kagome-san, there is no reason for you to cry." She looked up and he smiled. She smiled back
"KAGOME!!!" a loud shout came from the well. Both Kurama and her looked over, and Inu Yasha immerged.
Inu Yasha looked at them and jumped back, all he saw was Kagome's fallen tears and some freakish man next to her, and she was HURT!
"WHY YOU BASTARD!!!" he lunged and punched Kurama in the jaw, letting him fly back a little. He ran after him ready to attack him.
"INU YASHA SIT!" Kagome yelled.
"KER-THUD" he fell. She ran to Kurama and helped him get up. She yelled at Inu-Kun who still was on the ground. "What is your problem?!"
"He injured you!" he yelled.
"WHAT?! He didn't injure me! What gives you that idea?!"
"Your wounds, I know he gave them to you! I can smell your blood!"
"Did you ever think that he helped me, for your information he's injured to!"
Inu-kun looked over and noticed his neck, and his newly swollen cheek. Still they continued to bicker.
Kurama was a little embarrassed to be there so he smiled and sweat dropped. "Umm, I think I'll me on my way."
"Oh," Kagome said, "Be sure to visit some time."
"Alright" Kurama left.
Inu-kun watched jealously. "Well, who wad that?"
Kagome sighed, "I'll tell you later."
Kagome went to the feudal era the next day or so. She explained to everyone about what happened. Kaiade healed Kagome's wounds and there was some fight between Miroku and Inu-Kun about this being avoided. They were all a little stumped about the creature that attacked.
~+~End Flashback~+~
She hadn't seen them since the incident, Kurama as an exception. It had been a few weeks and she had stared to worry about them.
Kurama said smiling "Do not act so surprised, you should have know it was us."
Kagome sighed of relief "I'm sorry, you seemed so different from before."
Hiei didn't say a thing.
Kagome noticed, "Umm, Hiei was it. Did your wounds heal properly?"
He looked up at her "Yeah, no thanks to you."
Kagome was somewhat shocked but Kurama butted in "Don't mind him, he is a bit vulgar at times."
"So what do you need?" Kagome asked.
Kurama taking a glance at Hiei and Hiei back. Hiei looked serious and Kurama so did Kurama.
"There is a demon about." Kurama said, "We fear it is the demon from a few weeks ago. Orders from Koenma-sanma are to destroy him but he's slippery and has disgusted himself.
Kagome eyes shacked, she remembers and her shoulder ached. "He's here?"
Kurama nodded "We think so, keep an eye out. We have no clue of his power and he can be very dangerous."
Hiei looks sternly at her "Just watch your back because we won't be there to baby-sit you all the time."
Kagome looks disgusted at him "well I can take care of myself thank you!"
"Please don't bicker, Koenma-sanma has asked us to find him and eliminate him. We need you help. Are you up to it?"
"I'll keep my eye out."
The school bell rang
"I have to go." She jogs quickly to her school
"Be careful." Kurama heeds.
"I will" Kagome replies.
The wind rustles and Kurama and Hiei disappear.
The teacher called roll and he brang up an announcement "Today class, we have a new student."
There was a murmur in the room until he entered.
The teacher announced "Everyone, This is Shiromai Sekita."
The instant Kagome set eyes on him… her stomach turned.
