'Kagome's powers talking to her'

----

Kagome sat comfortably on the couch in an upstairs office as Sesshoumaru's secretary served tea to both the adults and the child when said child asked for some. Kage excitedly held her tea cup and took a gulp of the jasmine tea. Although the tea was scalding it had no effect on the little girl as she only smiled at the taste. Kagome took a sip and smiled at her little girl while the inu-daiyoukai merely observed the two for a few moments. “Now tell me what has happened.”

Kagome sighed before launching into an explanation of what had happened since her disappearance from the feudal era and her reappearance in her own era. The demon lord nodded occasionally until she reached the end of her tale where she stated that she was looking for a job in order to start supporting herself. At that information he merely rose a single brow in one of those looks that made her idea of getting a job seem silly. “What you need is to attend college, not get a job.”

“But I don't have the money to go to college,” she replied softly as she looked at him sadly.

“Choose a major and prepare for entrance exams, in the meantime I will look for a decent college for you to attend. As for any money you need, I will have an account set up in your name and the appropriate funds transferred into it. Each month I will give you a set amount that your kind call an allowance, you will receive this until you graduate and have a good job.”

“But Sesshoumaru I don't want you to have to support me, I can just get a job and take care of myself and Kage.”

He leveled a glare at her that caused her to shrink back. “You will do as I have just said; caring for you and your child is my responsibility until your mate returns and once again claims you. And do not worry that it will be problematic, as I am quite wealthy and have been accruing wealth since the Sengoku Jedai. Now, where exactly are you staying?”

“With a close friend, we grew up together as siblings since his mother and my father are step-siblings.”

“Very well, Jaken will bring you all of your account information as well as college and testing information. You will contact the institution I choose and tell them your choice major.”

“Yes, aniki,” she murmured, giving into the fact that he would find some way to make her do things his way instead of letting her get some little job. After a few moments she looked back up, “do you know what happened to any of the others from my group? I'd understand if not since you weren't very close to all of them, but any information would be nice.”

“After you had left, the monk and slayer married. If you trace your ancestry back far enough, you will find that they are your ancestors. The wolves returned to their homes where I know they have two children, Kome and Ayala. I know this because Kouga became the lord of the northern lands of demon world while I still retain rule over the west. Your kit chose to stay with me and I made sure that he grew up strong; he chose to mate a young thunder demon named Souten. I fully adopted Rin into my family, making her an inu-youkai, and she chose the young slayer to be her mate.”

Kagome smiled softly at that before pausing and looking to her daughter before returning her look to Sesshoumaru. “What of Hiei, or Kikyo and Inuyasha?”

“Hiei disappeared right after the final battle, leaving the kit in my care. As far as I know he's travelled the majority of the southern lands since and is alright. I do not usually pay attention to those lands as they are fragmented and fought over by three separate youkai. As for Inuyasha, he took control of the eastern lands by killing the lord and the rest of the royal family. He has since blocked his borders and exerted his control over his mate. I have heard that he has since forcibly taken a second mate.”

“A second mate… Poor Kikyo.”

“Do you have a cell phone?” the lord questioned as he looked at her.

She shook her head in the negative in answer. “I haven't really been into the whole electronics thing since returning from the past.”

“Jaken will deliver one of those as well. On top of which I have three years' worth of birthdays to make up it seems, so be expecting many gifts as well.”

The little girl perked up at that and looked to the demon lord, “do you mean my biwthdays Sessoumawu-sama?”

A slight smile touched the demon's lips as he looked to the child. “Yes, but its Uncle, not sama.”

“Uncle Sesshou,” she murmured before giving a large smile. “Can I have a kitty?”

Kagome sighed while the demon lord smirked, “I think I could arrange that.”

Kagome smiled as Yusuke arrived home with several people, a few of which she had yet to meet. Four of them she could tell were demons and the others were an older human with some power and a woman in her mid to late twenties with some power. She moved to greet them and was introduced to everyone starting with the boys; a blue haired man named Touya, a man with a Mohawk named Chuu, a little boy named Rinku, and a red haired man with a horn named Jin. The two humans were an older pinkish, gray haired woman named Genkai and a younger woman named Shizuru.

As soon as she went to fetch her daughter from her room she could hear one of them asking if Yusuke was sure it was alright for her to meet them. She could even hear as Kurama chuckled and Kuwabara seconded the question. Yukina was the one that stated she was already aware of demons so it wasn't a big deal. Kagome giggled to herself and collected her daughter before returning to the others and letting her meet them. Kage was excited and quickly went into asking what type of demons they were as well as what powers they had.

Most seemed amused, but she could tell the two human women could sense something about her little one. Whatever they could feel they kept to themselves though, at least they did for the time being. The excited little girl carefully listened to each explanation of powers and was very excited about one in particular, the one being Touya. Her eyes had lit up upon hearing that he could use ice as a weapon.

“But I thought ice powehs could only be used for healing?” she asked inquisitively as her little crimson eyes looked up into his.

“It can sometimes be used for both,” he explained carefully as he looked around for some help.

Yukina was the one that came to his aid and for the next twenty minutes they answered any questions the little one threw at them. Yusuke laughed at the scene as the rest all settled into the living room while Kagome made some tea for everyone. Once they were settled conversation began about an upcoming tournament and something about a king of demon world. When they hit that subject Kagome looked up curiously. “How can there be a king of demon world when the lands are separated into four sections?”

“There are only three, and all are overseen by the current king, Enki,” Yusuke said as he looked over at her.

She shook her head at that, “itai, there are four lands. The northern which are ruled over by wolf demons, the western which are ruled over by dog demons, and then the eastern which is currently held by an inu-hanyou. The southern lands have had no ruler in centuries from what I heard.”

Several sets of eyes widened drastically at that as they all peered at her with curiosity, though some appeared guarded. Kurama was the one that spoke up about her statement, “only the southern lands are currently accessible, though I wonder how you know about them all when you had never even heard of the Makai a few days prior.”

An innocent smile touched her lips as she lifted her tea to take a sip. “Perhaps one day I might tell you, though you may try to figure it out until I do so.”

“So you mean that all that land is only considered the southern lands?” Yusuke questioned loudly as he looked around. “What the fuck I thought the tournament decided the new king of all of demon world.”

“No, just the new southern lord,” Kagome responded softly. “Apparently the other demon lords held no desire for the land since the death of its ruler during the Shikon battle that lasted many years around five centuries ago.”

“How do you know so much about all of this?” asked Rinku as he looked over at her.

“My little secret,” she said with a small wink at him.

Kagome sighed as she relaxed in the tub after putting Kage to bed. Jaken had arrived a few hours earlier with several presents, a bank card in her name, a cell phone, a laptop, and also Kirara. The kitten was a welcome surprise and Kagome had burst into tears upon receiving her. The cell phone had several numbers already programmed in, including the numbers to Shippo, Kouga, Ayame, Jaken, and Sesshoumaru. She had plans for calling her son later and setting up a meeting for her daughter to meet him, and she hoped to ask if anyone knew what happened to her mate.

The laptop was already set up in her room, though she decided that she definitely needed a desk. Fortunately Yusuke had been called in by Koenma before all of the stuff had been delivered, so he wasn't here to ask where she had gotten all of it. The others had left after Yusuke, and she was left in the house with Kage. A bath had sounded nice, so she relaxed while waiting for Yusuke to return, though she had no idea when he would.

A tingle of youki brushed against her senses and had her bolting from the tub, barely remembering to put on her bathrobe on her way out the door and into the living area. The youki was so familiar and very powerful, but she by the time she reached the hallway it was already gone and she began to think that she had just imagined it. However she did feel the energy of three very familiar energy signatures and made her way to them before gasping as she took in the sight before her eyes. Three deep gouges crossed Kazuma's back and were bleeding profusely, Kurama's arms were wrapped around his midsection where blood poured freely and it seemed some of his intestines were spilling out, but Yusuke looked worst as he was pure white, a hole through his chest, but more worried about his friends.

The gasp drew the attention of the two with demon blood and Yusuke looked pleadingly at her. “Our friend is on his way to get Yukina because Kuwabara couldn't take any more of the travelling, but I don't think she'll get here in time. Is there anything that you can do to help?”

A slight nod was their only answer before she fully entered the room with a grim expression on her face. “Do not attack me,” she murmured softly as she looked over the demons. “I need Kurama next to Kazuma please.”

Though confused about the suggestion of attacking her, Yusuke complied and moved Kurama onto the couch and followed suit when she motioned for him to join them as well. Energy began pulsing through the air and both demons froze as they were hit with the feeling of purity which accompanied it. The energy was so strong and both of their instincts were screaming for them to get away from the being that would most likely cause their deaths. However, the next moment and both were wrapped in that energy, encased in a feeling of undaunted, unfiltered, absolute love. Both felt as though they were wrapped in a tight embrace that was telling them they had nothing to fear because the one holding them would make everything better.

When the feeling passed, calculating green eyes met somber blue as the damning words fell from the kitsune's lips. “You're a miko.”

Yusuke on the other hand was hovering over his friend and was amazed to find not even a scratch on any of them. Not even scars remained as a testament of what might have been. That one sentence though brought him back to reality and he looked over to the woman he allowed in his house before smiling and wrapping her tightly in his embrace. “Thanks Gome, thank-you so much!”

As he finished speaking he had buried his nose in her hair, catching the strong scent of purity which still clung to her skin. At hearing his words Kagome had burst into tears and wrapped her arms around him, happy that he did not reject her because of her kind. “Thank-you for not caring I'm a priestess.”

Hearing the cause of her tears made Kurama pause and the kitsune within tremble in delight, as miko were said to have gone extinct centuries ago when the barrier was first raised. As he took in her form he offered a soft smile before stating, “I'm merely surprised, and I wouldn't dream of avoiding you over such a silly matter.”

“So… what exactly is a miko?” Yusuke questioned as he released the girl, causing Kurama to sigh in exasperation and Kagome to giggle in amusement through her slowly drying tears.

“Miko are holy humans with the ability to purify a demon from existence,” explained Kurama. Their powers differ greatly from one to the next, but some of the strongest were said to be able to perform miracles, turn demons to ash with a single touch, and even purify the hatred from a demon's soul.”

Kagome waved her hands in the air at that when Yusuke turned to look at her. “Some could also only use their energy to heal, so healing isn't as grand as it's thought to be.”

“True,” agreed Kurama. “But I've never once heard of a miko being able to heal a demon without purifying them in the least.

“And how many miko have you met, or heard of, that actually tried to heal a demon?” He had to cede her point on that one. “Anyways, what happened to you guys?”

“I'll leave Yusuke to explain, I much catch up before he reaches Genkai's.” The avatar said before taking off.

Kagome simply turned her attention to Yusuke, waiting for an answer. Said man sighed before plopping down in a chair and starting from the beginning. “Koenma called because Enki needed help along one of the borders. Turns out that the eastern lands as you called them aren't as closed off as they seem, because several demons were coming through. They were strong, but they weren't the problem. A guy wearing an old fashioned red outfit attacked us, and he was very strong. We were lucky that our friends were passing by, because once we managed to escape we were all torn to pieces.”

The miko swallowed a lump as she looked over at the sleeping human before turning her attention back to the man before her. “The man you fought in red, did he have dog ears on his head, silver hair, and amber eyes?”

“Come to think of it, yeah he did. Do you know who he is?”

Kagome sighed somewhat raggedly as a tremble stole through her body. “His name is Inuyasha, and he is the hanyou lord of the eastern lands.”

“Fuck, no wonder he was so strong; though I've no idea why he carries a rusty blade when he has that kind of strength.”

When he said those words her eyes widened as she understood the meaning that he did not. A rusty old blade… That meant that the Tetsusaiga refused to transform for Inuyasha and that he had most definitely changed from the way he used to be. After a few moments she told him that she was going to bed and moved to her room in order to gather her thoughts on the matter. A few hours later and still she couldn't find sleep, so instead she opened her new cell phone and pressed send on Sesshoumaru's number. The demon lord answered on the second ring and sounded somewhat surprised to be hearing from her. The information that she gave him was another matter though, as he growled deeply at hearing Inuyasha had attacked those outside his realm. The demon lord commented that it meant the barrier surrounding the eastern lands was weakening.

Morning dawned and still Kagome had yet to sleep, though she didn't feel all that tired having missed those hours. Rising from her bed she prepared for the day, deciding to wear one of her more comfortable kimono instead of the more modern clothes. The boys and Kage were still sleeping, so Kagome decided to start making breakfast for them all since, both Yusuke and Kazuma would need the energy after their fight last night.

Kazuma woke first and when he entered the kitchen and saw her an image overlapped for a second of her with her hair unbound falling to her knees, wearing a beautiful dark blue kimono with silver sakura petals, her eyes were sparkling like gemstones, and a massive power welled around her entire being. When she turned to face him he saw a flash of marking on her face, but as soon as he blinked the image was replaced with a view of her, hair only down to her mid-back, and wearing a soft lavender kimono.

“You're up early,” she murmured to him as she moved her attention back to the stove before her.

“Yeah… do you know what happened last night? I thought for sure I wasn't gonna make it to Yukina in time.”

“Yukina did not heal you, I did,” she whispered softly, though he still heard her. “Yusuke told me about your fight afterward, and knowing whom your enemy was means that you are actually quite lucky to still be alive after the battle. I have heard that he has grown rather ruthless in the past years.”

“I'm curious how you know so much about demons,” he said honestly as he looked at her back, noticing how sad her aura appeared. “I'm also curious why your aura feels exceedingly pure and yet so very sad.”

Her body tensed in surprise as she turned to look at him before smiling slightly. “Ah, I see now. You have the latent potential for becoming a monk, though many have it not many ever find out about it or demons. Judging by the strength I can sense though, you've used yours for a long time, meaning that as a child you most likely saw what you shouldn't have been able to see.”

“How can you tell? And what do you mean by the potential to become a monk?” he asked. Unknown to either of the two, Kurama had arrived and was listening in from the hallway where he was soon joined by Yusuke whom he shushed and motioned to listen.

Kagome smiled at the man as she thought about her answer for a few moments before deciding to start with the easy question. “A monk is a man that uses spiritual power to fight and defend against demonic attacks. Their powers can also be channeled into healing to a lesser extent, as well as used to create barriers and perform exorcisms. Currently you use spirit energy, which is energy that comes from both body and soul which is something that all beings possess to some extent. However, a monk or a miko would use what is known as reiki, or soul energy while a demon uses youki. Reiki and youki are complete opposites, though there is also jyaki which is used mainly by the more evil demons to taint objects and people around them. An example is a poisonous fog.”

“So what kind of energy do you use?” Kazuma questioned curiously.

She just smiled at him, “I'm capable of using many types, including seikouki.” She paused there as she watched the surprise sink into those present before laughing to herself. “By the way Yusuke, Kurama, breakfast is ready if you'd like to join the rest of us and quit simply listening in.”

Both boys walked in a moment later; both looking slightly apologetic for eavesdropping as she laughed at them and made her way to wake up her daughter. Once she was out of the room, Kuwabara looked over at the other two, “she's really smart, but I wish I knew why she was so sad.”

“What do ya mean?” asked Yusuke as he looked at his friend.

“I mean that her smile never quite reaches her eyes and that her aura feels like she's lonely and sad.”
