'Kagome's powers talking to her'

----

Kurama and Yukina were over while Yusuke was out with Kuwabara doing who knows what. Kurama had mentioned that Koenma may have given them an easy mission, though he wasn't quite sure. She had shrugged it off, as when he didn't need Kurama's help on a mission he normally came back bored and with only a few scratches. While Kagome worked on cleaning the kitchen, Yukina spent time with Kage asking about all the plants that she had kept within her room and if she knew what each plant did. Kurama half listened for a while before moving into the kitchen. “Kage seems very knowledgeable on the plants that you have. She also seems fairly attached to the demonic kitten that keeps appearing here.”

“Kirara was given to us by a friend, and she leaves to hunt for her own food, though I have offered to buy her some meat from the store. I believe she prefers her kills fresh.”

“She seems quite tame for a demon,” he mentioned as he watched the little kitten jump up onto the girl's shoulder and mew at her.

He noticed as the smile on her face barely reached her eyes, just as Kuwabara had commented the other day. She had paused in her cleaning and poured some milk for the kitten to drink and laid out a few cat treats before returning to her task. “Kirara has been around humans all her life.”

“And do you know how old she is, exactly?” He was really curious about that, though he was surprised by her answer.

“Not the exact number, but I know her to be around a thousand years. So that would make her close to your age, correct, Youko?”

“And how do you know how old I am?” Now he was really curious.

“It's a guess based on some of the things I've heard you mention, as well as the fact that you have four tails that twitch behind you when in your animal form.”

Blinking in surprise he appeared confused by her statement as he replied “I do not currently have tails.”

This time she erupted into giggles as she stretched her hands up to just above his head and astonishment appeared on his face as he felt her tweak one of his demonic ears. “They're softer than they look.”

“H-how?” he stuttered out as he stared at her in surprised shock.

“Your true appearance overlaps your current form, almost like a shadow in the background. There are occasions when your shadow changes to that of an animal form and I can see all four of your tails swaying to and fro. I must ask though, why do you not shed the human shell and merely use illusions to keep yourself within the human world?”

“Taking my demon form is taxing on my body, as my original body died and my soul took over the body of a dying, soulless embryo.”

“In other words, you can't take your true form or access your true powers because you did not perform the merge correctly.”

“What do you mean?” he asked as his curiosity overturned his shock and surprise.

“I mean that you are an avatar, but that the method you used was not done properly in order to merge your soul fully into the human child. What you have used is an ancient technique called reincarnation. If you were in a hurry, you obviously didn't focus on fusing the two halves.”

“In truth, I have never heard of this technique,” he answered with a calculating tone.

“Ah, then you must not have known the finer points. For example, I can see the frayed edges of your soul and aura where not everything is in sync. If you don't mind, I could most likely fix and tether your soul more firmly and properly into your host body for you, which would allow you to become able to switch freely between forms.”

“You can do that?” he questioned in an unsure voice.

“I studied many things in my life,” she answered softly. “I have never before attempted something like this, but I won't know until I try and I know that trying won't cause any harm.”

“I suppose a try can't hurt,” he agreed calmly while his mind raced with possibilities.

“Then please sit on the couch as I must be able to concentrate while I do this,” she murmured as she sat on the floor across from him.

As she closed her eyes, the lines of his soul and aura became more and more visible with focus. After a few moments she set about her task of tethering his soul more firmly into his human body. They sat that way for half an hour before Kagome was sure that none of him was leaking any longer from his shell. With a smile to herself she gave one last tweak to his aura before opening her eyes and looking into the amber of the demon fox, Youko Kurama.

He was fast she noted as he was beside her in an instant, pulling her firmly into his chest as his cool eyes drank in her form. “I am grateful for your helping me, though I must now find some way of repaying you.”

“I see, without your human shell being dominant, you're no longer inhibited by human ideals,” she said softly as she looked into his eyes before pulling herself away from him.

A second later and he had her once more pulled against his firm, toned body. “In this form I am also better able to sense and smell you. And I must say that you smell divine.”

She rolled her eyes at the demon as she once more pulled away, “and I must remind you that I'm not interested.”

“You seem calm even though I'm advancing on you, not to mention that interests change.”

“I'm ignoring your flirting because I know that your hormones are currently adjusting to the change, as for interests, I have one and he is not you.”

“Then is it Yusuke you're interested in?” asked the demon fox as he once more pulled the woman against him.

She sighed and began to stroke his tail causing a purr to escape his throat as his arms loosened their hold. Once more she escaped him as he looked at her in shock. “I know many tricks to escaping a captivating kitsune, and no I'm not interested in Yusuke because that would be wrong.”

Before he could once again capture her, a squeal erupted from the hallway before a blur appeared attached to the fox demon that grabbed onto his ears. “Mommy! They feel like silk!”

Yukina had gasped as soon as she had seen him, but he just smirked at her causing a light blush to cross her face. As for the child, he was pleased that she hadn't actually raised her voice from the excitement. “Thank-you for the compliment little one.”

Small crimson eyes widened as she heard the deep masculine voice before taking in the feel of his energy and looking curiously at him. “Is that weally you Uncle Kuwama?”

He smiled at her softly eliciting another small gasp from the ice maiden whose face now resembled a tomato. “Of course, and if it would be easier, you may call me Youko, little one.”

“Uncle Youko,” she tried before smiling and hugging him. “Uncle Youko!”

Unknown to the group in the house, Yusuke had been walking home with the other friend that they had mentioned. Hiei had paused as soon as he felt the somewhat similar aura and his jagan eye opened to see the woman being held in Youko's embrace. Her looks were painfully similar to that of his late mate, that he completely stopped moving and it took Yusuke several tries to get his attention. The little one that he had seen run into the room broke his heart as she looked achingly similar to the woman in the fox demon's arms, and his mate had been pregnant when she died. Though his own child would have been much older by now if the two had survived that final battle.

When he finally turned his attention to Yusuke, he told the detective that he had somewhere else he needed to be and left with no more than that. Yusuke was very confused by the fire demon's behavior, but waved it off as a Hiei thing as he made it the rest of the way to his house where Kagome was wrapped in Youko's arms with Kage clinging to the demon. It took twenty minutes before Kagome could calm the man down enough that she could explain that Kurama was still adjusting to the overflow of sexual hormones from having his demon side turned to the more dominant form. Yusuke glared and glowered but finally accepted the answer as he turned back to Kagome and asked what was for dinner.

Hiei was still nearby, though he was unsure why as he knew that the woman in that house could not be his mate. Her energy signature was completely different, she had such a young child, and she didn't carry his mark. Finally forcing himself to come to term with these thoughts he fled from the area and into the Makai where he would demand Mukuro spar with him.

It had been three weeks since Kagome had stitched Kurama's soul fully to his body, and the group once again had an assignment. Yukina was over to spend time with the miko, as Kage had asked to visit home for a little while. While the miko had been hesitant to let her go, Kurama had offered to take her to Tokyo instead of making her take the train there and back. Instead, Kagome had called Sesshoumaru and asked him if Jaken could take Kage to visit her family back in Tokyo. The demon lord said that Jaken would be there Saturday morning and that he would drop Kagome off at a testing center for entrance exams on the way. She had growled but agreed and began studying that night.

The results had come back the day prior and she had managed to pass everything with flying colors and was accepted into the prestigious Tokyo University where she would start when Sesshoumaru deemed she was ready. Luckily her classes would be online, though final exams would still be held on campus. After all of that she had called Shippo on Sunday and had planned on meeting him the following weekend in order to catch up. He had seemed surprised and ecstatic when she called him, and she had had to explain about how she had ran into Sesshoumaru.

Currently it was Sunday and she had seen her son the day before when he had rushed into her arms and spun her around. He had grown both tall and handsome, though the true surprise was the amount of power that he had amassed over the centuries as he had proudly told her that he had seven tails and was working on his eighth. After about twenty minutes he smacked himself in the head before leading her to a beautiful young woman that he introduced as Souten of the thunder tribe. Souten was somewhat unsure of the meeting, as she remembered Kagome from the past, but she was greeted with opened arms and a smile.

By the time night fell and everything had finally sunk in, Shippo had used his transformation ability to turn back into his younger self where he immediately attached himself to her and began crying about how he had missed her and thought she was dead. While she calmed him she spoke to Souten about how their life had been. She was told that the two of them found each other again about a century after the battle and that Sesshoumaru had allowed her to train to join the western army. It wasn't until about eighty years ago that the two had actually mated and it was only a few years before that that they had started courting.

Souten also informed her that their three children were actually quite young, the oldest being only ten years old. Their oldest was a girl named Aiko, their second child was a three year old named Hiten, after Souten's favorite older brother, and their youngest was about two and named Kaede. “Shippo really adored Kaede, and since he allowed me to name our first son after my brother I thought it was only right that we named our daughter after the woman he thought of as a grandmother.”

Kagome suddenly burst out laughing causing both demons to look up at her as she smiled at them. “If you think about it, we're all kind of related in one way or another. Kaede was like a grandmother to me and you, Kikyo, Sango, and Ayame became my sisters, Miroku, Kouga, and Sesshoumaru my brothers… It's just funny.”

That was close to the end of the night when the conversation happened. Souten had promised to bring their children over to meet and play with Kage, which Shippo was thrilled when he heard he had a younger sister. So lost in thought about the previous night was Kagome that she didn't hear Yukina attempting to get her attention. It took a moment before she snapped out of her thoughts. “Hmm?”

The ice maiden giggled before repeating, “I asked if you wanted to go out for a little while.”

“Where to?”

“We could go to Genkai's,” she suggested with a smile. “I'm sure that she would be thrilled to meet you. She's Yusuke's master.”

“Ah, the one that trained him until he surpassed her?”

“Hai,” Yukina answered as she looked over her friend. “Or if you would prefer to talk, I would be willing to listen.”

Kagome almost smiled at that as she thought about how having Yukina around reminded her of long ago when she was surrounded by her friends. “We could go to a hot-spring.”

The ice maiden blinked before smiling with a nod. “That does sound like fun, but where would we find one?”

It took several minutes of thinking before Kagome quickly stood and rushed to her room before pulling out an old worn map. It was a map she had used back in the Feudal Era, and on it she had marked the location of several springs because she was curious about which ones still remained and were turned into resorts. As her eyes scanned the paper they lit up upon seeing a spring that showed it was surrounded by a forest and would possibly still exist in this era. She set the map back on her bed before returning to the living room and telling Yukina that she may have found a great place to go, though it was a little ways away.

The ice maiden was excited about the idea, so the two left a note to tell the others before grabbing a few things and making their way to the train station. After a few hours on the train, they exited and made their way to the far end of the town where there was nothing but forest for many miles. The feeling of being surrounded by nature brought a smile to the faces of both girls as they started their hike to where Kagome thought the spring may still be.

By midafternoon they had made it to a vast spring that had steam rising from it, and both were eager for a nice soak as they set a few towels out. Though the suggestion had surprised Yukina, she had easily agreed upon seeing the light entering the other woman's eyes at the idea. They had kept up easy conversation for the entire trip and though they seemed far from civilization, Yukina wasn't too worried as they were still within the human world.

Even to the ice maiden the hot waters felt good as both girls slipped into the water. Kagome sighed as her eyes slipped shut before once more opening and turning to the likewise relaxing maiden. A few moments of thinking and she came to a decision as her sapphire eyes focused on the ice maiden in the waters with her before she murmured softly, “Yukina, I'd like to tell you a story.”
