Yusuke Urameshi walked down the streets, his destination known, but on the outside he looked to be a broken man wandering. His brown eyes were dull, very unusual for the young male. Normally life was sparking within his orbs, to have them void of life was troublesome. Of course, none would know unless they knew him as a friend. The passerby didn't, so they didn't know anything was out of the ordinary. His outfit consisted of a dark green button down shirt and black slacks, his shoulder length hair was tied back with a leather strip.
The weather was looking rather bleak the past few days, perhaps they would get the long expected snow they had been waiting for.
“…coming out from America to attend!” a female said to an older man, who gazed down at her lovingly. “I'm so happy; I haven't seen him in years!”
“That's fantastic love, I'm sure he'll be just as happy to see you.” Yusuke let the couple pass, his eyes downcast. Wherever he turned, he could have sworn there was yet another couple. Then again, it was probably just him.

Did I disappoint you or let you down?
Should I be feeling guilty or let the judges frown?
'Cause I saw the end before we'd begun,
Yes I saw you were blinded and I knew I had won.
So I took what's mine by eternal right.
Took your soul out into the night.
It may be over but it won't stop there,
I am here for you if you'd only care.
You touched my heart you touched my soul.
You changed my life and all my goals.
And love is blind and that I knew when,
My heart was blinded by you.
I've kissed your lips and held your head.
Shared your dreams and shared your bed.
I know you well, I know your smell.
I've been addicted to you.

He stopped at a crosswalk, waiting for the cars to pass so he could go. Laughter erupted from his right, he glanced, his breath almost caught. Long black hair, slender figure, and the Taiki High school uniform. When the girl turned around, however, he saw she had brown eyes. The normal Japanese brown eyes that he saw every time he turned around, so bland…boring. He sighed and stuffed his hands in his pockets as he began walking. Of course it wasn't her; she would be out of high school by now anyway. Such an idiot, how could he have forgotten that?
`Why can't my god damned life be simple for once? Do the gods have fun screwing with me or something?' he thought sourly. He had long ago learned life was far from fair, but he had thought that maybe…just maybe…he could have just one thing go right.
After Keiko, he had been afraid to date again. No, she didn't break up with him…never had she even thought of it. It had been a youkai seeking revenge on the ex-spirit detective. The youkai was no longer around, dead on the spot, unfortunately Keiko had fallen before he got there. He had been forced to watch her blood spray on the white rug before her lifeless body hit the ground. He couldn't, for the life of him, remember what happened after that. Kurama told him he had gone into a rage and explained he would not remember a thing he had done.
A year later, after his friend's persuasion, he had gone out on a blind date courtesy of Shizuru and Yukina. He had been so reluctant, but….he didn't regret going.

Goodbye my lover.
Goodbye my friend.
You have been the one.
You have been the one for me.

Silence enveloped the two sitting at the table, both looking at their drinks feeling rather awkward. The instrumentals of `Goodbye my Lover' played all of a sudden, tearing both out of their thoughts. Kagome dug in her purse, taking out her cell phone, which she flipped open and turned off.
“Shizuru, should have known,” she muttered.
“She's probably here somewhere spying,” Yusuke said with a grin while pretending to look around for the woman. Kagome smiled, her hand went up to her mouth covering the spreading smile.
“I wouldn't doubt it,” she giggled.
“How do you know her?” Yusuke questioned.
“Oh, ran into her once by accident. I was in a rut, but she helped me out of it,” she replied. “How about you?”
“Kuwabara and I used to work together, I knew her through him.” Unknowingly they had started a conversation, the awkward feeling vanished. He had been captivated by her shimmering sapphire orbs and her smile. He purposely made her laugh just to hear it; musical was the word to describe the sound.
“To tell you the truth, I had been reluctant to come,” Kagome admitted. “But…I'm glad I came.” Yusuke smiled thinking the same thing she had just said. He had driven her home, since Shizuru had been her ride home.
“Would you like to do this again sometime?” He asked when they got to her front door.
“Yes, I would like that,” she replied with the smile he loved so much. He leaned down and captured her lips in a tender kiss. She watched him leave, her fingers lifted to touch her lips lightly.
“Ooo, Kagome got kissed!” was heard from inside.

I am a dreamer but when I wake,
You can't break my spirit - it's my dreams you take.
And as you move on, remember me,
Remember us and all we used to be
I've seen you cry, I've seen you smile.
I've watched you sleeping for a while.
I'd be the father of your child.
I'd spend a lifetime with you.
I know your fears and you know mine
We've had our doubts but now we're fine,
And I love you, I swear that's true.
I cannot live without you.

Kagome looked up from her desk upon hearing light tapping, at first she had ignored it, but it became all the more insistent. She finally threw open the curtains expecting to see Inuyasha, ready to remind him to use the back door instead of the window. Frankly she was surprised to see Yusuke sitting on a tree branch instead of the dog eared hanyou.
“Yusuke!” she exclaimed upon opening the window. “What are you doing?” she couldn't help but laugh. He looked like a drowned rat sitting there in the rain, but still grinned like a fool.
“Just hanging around!”
“Get in here you idiot,” she ordered her tone light and teasing. He did as commanded while she brought in a towel for him to dry off with. “What in the world are you doing out in the rain, in my tree much less!” She placed her hands on her hips; he put the towel around his neck and came closer.
“I just wanted to see you,” he said softly. He cupped her chin in his hand; she placed her hand atop his. He leaned down and captured her lips in a searing kiss; she wrapped her arms around his neck and deepened the kiss. They had spent the night learning each others bodies, every curve, and each sensitive spot.

Goodbye my lover.
Goodbye my friend.
You have been the one.
You have been the one for me.

It seemed that the relationship had been too good to be true, unfortunately. She was no longer there to hold, to love, to kiss, to protect. He concentrated on the sidewalk he walked upon, his memory guiding him to where he was supposed to be. Her family had accepted him rather easily; well her grandfather had taken time. Willow treated him like her son, reprimanding him and worrying about him. Souta would always boast about how he would beat him in so and so game, sometime he won….sometimes Yusuke creamed him. The family hadn't seen him for a year now, but whether they cared or not though, he wasn't sure. Hiei had noticed his odd behavior first, which was unusual.

“You aren't on top of your game as usual detective,” Hiei stated as he fell in step with Yusuke.
“It's nothing Hiei, nothing you would understand anyway,” he shot. If he thought that would make the hybrid turn tail, he was wrong. If anything, the man was even more determined to get to the bottom of the problem.
“You haven't acted this way since Keiko passed away. What happened with Kagome?”
“Nothing, she's just fine,” Yusuke snapped irate. Hiei stopped in front of Yusuke, causing him to stop. “What?” he growled.
“I suggest you get over this,” Hiei snapped. “If you are this distracted, the SDF won't pass up the opportunity to kill you. It's either get over it, or die. Your choice in the end, personally I'd rather live to wring the mans neck.” That was good ol' Hiei, always giving you a kick in the ass when you needed it. Yusuke smirked, though there was no feeling behind it.
“Wish I could,” he sighed. “Thanks Hiei.”

And I still hold your hand in mine.
In mine when I'm asleep.
And I will bear my soul in time,
When I'm kneeling at your feet.

“You're actually attending?” Yusuke didn't even look as the hybrid appeared next to him.
“Yeah, still don't know why. He already said he wouldn't hold it against me if I didn't,” Yusuke replied with a sigh as Hiei fell into step with him.
“Perhaps even a youkai needs closure,” Hiei said, surprising Yusuke to no end.
“Y-yeah,” he said once the shock wore off. “I guess so. What's your reason?”
“My reasons are my own detective,” Hiei said shortly. Yusuke raised his hands in a sign of defeat deciding not to pry. His attire was the same as ever, sans the cloak and katana surprisingly. Yusuke stopped short at the many steps leading to the shrine, his heart clenched painfully. Hiei stopped and looked back seeing the turmoil flash across his face. Never had he thought the heir to a portion of Makai to ever look so broken. No, he wasn't the heir right now. He was Yusuke, Yusuke Urameshi, the one whose heart had shattered twice and now the pieces were left on the floor. Finally Yusuke shook his head and went up the steps with Hiei, pasting a look of happiness of his face. The whole yard was decorated; even the plants seemed alive today despite the bleak look the sky provided. He sat in one of the chairs just as the music began.

Goodbye my lover.
Goodbye my friend.
You have been the one.
You have been the one for me.

Tears stung the corners of his eyes as he watched Kagome, in a beautiful white wedding kimono, walk to the man who waited for her…Kurama. She looked absolutely radiant, her smile reaching all the way to her eyes. Yusuke looked away feeling pained. Hiei placed a hand on Yusuke's shoulder as they faced each other ready to say their vows.
“Let's go,” he said. Yusuke didn't argue, instead following the hybrid not once looking back. Hiei told Yusuke to go ahead to the bottom of the steps and turned around, watching the two a little longer.
`I hope you know what you've done to him Kagome,' he thought sourly. `I expected much better from you Kurama, you knew but chanced it anyway. I hope you're pleased with yourself conniving fox.' He let the last part pass through to Kurama's mind and closed his own before the spirit fox could respond. He walked down the steps where Yusuke sat at the bottom, looking empty.
“A trip to the Makai will do you good detective, it's sickening to see a youkai in such a state.” He said shortly. Yusuke looked up, a smirk played on his face.
“You always know what to say to get me off my ass,” Yusuke said. “Thanks Hiei.” Even Hiei could see it would take months before Yusuke was back to normal, but he gave him a push in the right direction. Because he still loved the priestess, it would take so much longer to fully heal. Yusuke looked back at the shrine, a sad smile played on his features.
`Goodbye Kagome,' he thought before turning away. `I guess it wasn't meant to be after all…'

I'm so hollow, baby, I'm so hollow.
I'm so, I'm so, I'm so hollow
