Chapter 6
Night Time
Normal POV
Inuyasha couldn't stop mumbling curses under his breath as he and Kagome walked back to her house. The source for his foul mood was behind him. Looking over his shoulder he glared at Yusuke, Kuwabara, and Kurama. Kagome, who was walking beside him, saw this and placed a comforting hand on his shoulder.
“It's ok Inuyasha. I'm sure we can trust them. They seem like honest people at least,” Kagome said, trying to calm the angry hanyou.
“It's not them I'm worried about right now! I just can't believe what they said was true!” Inuyasha shouted.
Understanding what he meant Kagome thought back to what they just heard not too long ago.
Flashback
“What the hell did you just say!” Inuyasha yelled.
“It's sad but true. You and your friends will be killed by Naraku,” Koenma said.
Kagome looked like her mind was in another place at the moment. The shock of the news had a great impact on her. But she managed to pull herself back together; though it was obvious she was still in shock.
“Are… are you sure? Maybe you just have it mixed up.”
“I'm not getting anything mixed up. Sadly even the child dies as well. But now I want to know something. If what you said about the well is true than that makes you that last member of the group right?” Koenma asked.
“I… guess so,” Kagome answered, looking down at the ground.
“So Koenma what does this all mean? Are they going to help us or what?” Yusuke asked.
“Yes. If they don't wish to take part in this battle that will be fine but they must give us some information as to what they know of Naraku. Like his fighting abilities and what he does,” Koenma said.
All the others looked at Kagome and Inuyasha. They seemed to be in their own world at the moment. Inuyasha seemed to snap back his senses when he felt their eyes on him.
“I'll do anything to kill Naraku! You just lead me to him and I'll get him for you.”
“Yes. Well as much as we would love to do that we don't know where he's hiding. But with your help we may be able to find his location. Hopefully before Hiei does,” Koenma whispered that last part.
Inuyasha was able to pick it up though but before he could say anything Kagome spoke.
“I have one favor to ask of you before we help.”
“And what would that be?” Koenma asked.
“Is there anyway that you can bring our finds to the present? I know that their help would greatly aid us,” Kagome said.
Koenma took a moment to think it over. It's true that more fighters would help, but there was also the fact that he couldn't risk bringing more people from the past into the present. If something were to go wrong it could damage the flow of time. But than again that wouldn't matter if they were to lose to Naraku since he would bring about the end of the world using the Shikon Jewels power. Swallowing the lump that had formed in his throat he looked at Kagome and said, “I'll see what I can do.”
End Flashback
Kagome looked back over her shoulder to Yusuke and the others again. Stopping, she grabbed Inuyasha to stop him as well, and Yusuke, Kuwabara, and Kurama stopped too. Yusuke raised an eyebrow, confused as to why they were stopping.
“Hey. Why are we stopping? Forget something?”
“No. I just want to ask you three something. Do you think that Koenma person will be able to bring our friends to this time period?”
“It's hard to say. Time travel isn't exactly normal so who's to say,” Kurama said.
Accepting his answer Kagome simply nodded. As it turned out they were close to the steps that led up to her family shine. She said goodbye to them and dragged Inuyasha up the steps with her.
Yusuke, Kuwabara, and Kurama watched as Inuyasha and Kagome ascended the stairs to Kagome's home. They decided not to follow them up since they would see them tomorrow. As they watched Kagome and Inuyasha disappear from their view they started to talk amongst themselves.
“So Kurama. Do you think they're going to be helpful? I mean if they get killed by this guy in the past than what could they do now?” Kuwabara asked.
“Does it matter? At least they will be able to do something,” Yusuke said.
“Yes. Besides Koenma said that they lost in their final battle with Naraku, when he had the completed jewel. Also since you couldn't sense it Kuwabara but that Inuyasha is stronger than you think,” Kurama said.
“Huh? Really?”
“Man Kuwabara. You really need to get your powers back,” Yusuke said.
“Shut up Urameshi! What do you think I've been doing all this time while we've been here? Genkai said she would try and think of something while in the mean time I try and get my powers back my own way,” Kuwabara said.
Far down the street a couple of blocks was Hiei. Using the power of his Jagon Eye he was able to see what they were doing. He had been following them since Genkai's temple.
Flashback
Hiei decided he would return to Genkai's to interrogate Yusuke. But when he sensed the presence of two strangers he decided not to show himself, unless needed. He instead chose to hide outside the window to the room they were all in. Using his Jagon, Hiei peered into the room. Doing this he knew at least Kurama and Genkai would notice him, but without his powers there was no chance that Kuwabara would sense him and Yusuke was probably too stupid to notice unless he put out more energy. But he knew nothing of these strangers.
Hiei watched carefully as they talked and listened. What he heard left him confused. But most of all what caught his attention was the name that he kept hearing pop up, Naraku.
`So this Naraku is the one that has Yukina. It must be!' Hiei thought to himself.
He was brought back when he noticed that the strangers were getting up, intending to leave. The sun was beginning to set so Hiei figured they were going to head to their homes.
`Hn. I'll follow them and see if I can learn anything else.'
End Flashback
Hiei tied his bandana back on, covering his Jagon. He turned around with a stern look on his face.
`I'll wait to see if that fool Koenma can bring those other people here. Once they're all here I'll get the answers that I want.'
Next Day
Feudal Era
Kagome had gone back with Inuyasha last night. She had a feeling that she shouldn't have stayed at her house that night. When she awoke the hut was empty. She wasn't surprised. It must have been even more of a shocker to them than it had to her. Deciding that it was time to get moving she got up.
She stepped outside and was forced to cover her eyes with her right hand. Letting out a sigh she headed out to look for Sango.
Present
Spirit World
Koenma sat at his desk. He had been troubled since yesterday. What he had told Kagome and Inuyasha kept running through his head. Every time it would make him worry more and more. In his mind he knew of only one way to be able to bring Kagome and Inuyasha's friends from the past to the present, but it was risky.
“Oh dear. What am I supposed to do? Sure getting two of them shouldn't be too difficult but the third is different. There's no telling what could get in the way,” Koenma mumbled to himself.
He continued to think things over for about another thirty minutes before he can to a decision. Reaching for his intercom he called for Botan. She arrived at his office within minutes.
“You called Koenma?”
“Botan. Gather the team and have them bring two people called Inuyasha and Kagome with them. Don't worry they know where to find them,” Koenma said as he got out of his chair.
“Alright Koenma but I'm afraid I won't know where to find Hiei. Since he found out about Yukina he's been moving constantly. There's no sure way to find him,” Botan said.
“Fine. Don't worry about him. We'll worry about him later if it becomes a problem. Now hurry up. We need to make this quick.”
“Alright.”
Human World
Kagome and Inuyasha climbed out of the well and walked out of the shed. While stretching her arms above her head Kagome took in a deep breathe. She let it out and dropped her arms. Looking over to Inuyasha she said, “Well what do you want to do first? It's almost noon. We can hang out here for a little bit or go back to that temple,” Kagome said.
“Lets get this over with. The sooner we do the better.”
“Ok. Well we still need to go inside and get you a hat. It was risky enough walking home last night.”
They both started to head for her house when they heard a voice calling her out. Turning around they saw Yusuke and Botan running up to them, well Yusuke was running and Botan was flying. Not knowing what to expect from this Inuyasha reached for his sword.
“Wow! Hey point that damn thing away! I'm not here to fight you,” Yusuke said when they reached them.
“Who the hell is that and why is she flying around on an oar?!” Inuyasha shouted.
“Inuyasha! Keep you voice down. Someone could be coming up the steps now or even hear you from down there,” Kagome said.
“Oh I'm sorry. We haven't met yet. I'm Botan. I help Yusuke out with his missions and try to keep him out of trouble,” Botan said cheerfully.
“Hey! Don't make it sound like you're my babysitter or something. Besides I usually end up having to save you. So if anyone's helping someone it's me.”
“Yes, but without my help you would be completely lost. So even though you don't want to admit it you do need my help from time to time.”
It was clear that an argument was about to happen, so Kagome stepped in.
“Am sorry to interrupt you two but what are you doing here?”
That seemed to stop them and they both looked at her.
“Oh right. We came to pick you guys up. Apparently Koenma has some news for us,” Yusuke said.
“What! Already? But does he really have something already?” Kagome asked.
“Who knows? Botan said she didn't know whether or not if it was good or bad news. So come on. Let's go.”
“Ok. Let me just run inside and grab a hat. It was risky last night but now that it's the afternoon a lot of people are out. We don't want to draw any attention with Inuyasha's ears,” Kagome said.
“And that sword won't?” Botan asked, pointing at his Tessaiga.
Inuyasha crossed his arms and glared at her.
“You're crazy if you think I'm going to leave this here. If we're going anywhere with you guys I'm bringing Tessaiga.”
They all stood in thought. Kagome knew that Inuyasha was going to refuse leaving it behind and he also wouldn't let her go alone. Yusuke started to tap his foot, showing that he was losing his patience. Finally Botan jumped.
“I know! Why don't I just carry it for you? That way I can just fly over to Genkai's and when you get there I can give it back to you.”
“Hell no! Why should I believe you? For all I know you could just dump it off somewhere!” Inuyasha yelled.
“Oh come on man. We don't have all day. Just give it to her so that we can get going. Trust me. She won't do anything to your precious sword,” Yusuke said.
After a couple more minutes of arguing they were able to persuade Inuyasha into giving his sword to Botan. With a cheerful smile at their success Botan waved with the hand that was holding onto Inuyasha's sword.
“I'll meet you guys over at Genkai's. See you when you get there.”
Then she was gone. Yusuke stuffed his hands into his pockets and looked at Inuyasha and Kagome.
“Lets get going. As you know from last night this walk could take a while.”
Genkai's Temple
Kurama and Kuwabara sat on the steps to Genkai's temple, waiting for Yusuke, Inuyasha, and Kagome. Botan had met up with them at the temple an hour and a half ago and told them that they were on their way. When they asked her about the sword she was carrying she only suppressed a laugh and walked past them.
“When are Urameshi and the others going to get here?” Kuwabara asked.
“Patience Kuwabara. They will get here when they get here,” Kurama said.
“Well I'm going to go inside and see if Genkai has any ideas yet.”
Kurama nodded his head and Kuwabara went inside. He looked down and let out a sigh, thinking he should join his friend, but when he looked up he saw them walking towards him. Smiling he stood and waited for them to reach him.
“It's about time Yusuke. We were beginning to worry that you got lost,” Kurama said.
“Very funny Kurama. We would have gotten here sooner if someone didn't throw a fit every five minutes about not having his damn sword.”
“Hey! Shut up or do you want me to kick you ass? Besides now that we're here where's the witch with my sword?” Inuyasha asked, frustrated.
Botan came walking out of the doorway.
“Oh I thought I heard your voice. Here you go. Like I said nothing was going to happen to your sword.”
She walked over to Inuyasha and handed it back to him. He snatched it back put it back in its place. Botan glared at him and walked back inside.
“Well come on. Lets go inside too,” Yusuke said.
They all walked inside, following Yusuke. He led the way to the room that they had talked in yesterday. In there waiting was Genkai, Kuwabara, Botan, and Koenma.
“Thank you for coming back. I… have a plan to help your friends come to the present,” Koenma said.
They all sat down and waited for him to continue. It was obvious that he was nervous about something but no one said anything. Kagome noticed Inuyasha glaring at something in the corner of her eye. She followed where he was looking and saw the window, but nothing out of the ordinary.
“What's wrong Inuyasha?”
“There's somebody out there.”
Everyone but Kurama and Genkai looked towards the window. Kurama chuckled a little.
“There's no need to worry. It's only Hiei.”
“What? Hiei? What's he doing here?” Kuwabara asked.
“I'm guessing he's here to help stupid,” Yusuke said.
“Yes. Come Hiei. Join us,” Kurama said.
They all saw Hiei step out from the side and climb in through the window. It looked like he ignored everyone in the room and made his way for the corner. When he got there he leaned against the wall with his arms crossed and eyes closed.
“Who's he?” Kagome asked.
“Just another member of the team. Now what I'm going to tell you is good but it could also be bad,” Koenma said.
Everyone seemed interested and waited for him to continue. So he cleared his throat and reached into his clothes and pulled something out.
“This and three other artifacts are what are going to help you on your mission.”
In Koenma's hand was an Hourglass, a big one at that. It was a little bigger than his hand. Yusuke raised an eyebrow.
“An hourglass is going to help us? Ok I'm lost.”
“Well if you would let me continue you would know how. Now as I was saying the hourglass itself is of no use to us alone. There are two more artifacts that we need. One is a pocket watch and the other is an ancient book. Obviously these aren't normal items but they all look like it. I would be telling you the real names but they are so old that the names have been forgotten.”
“Interesting. And what do they each do?” Kurama asked.
“The hourglass is to set the time limit for how long we can keep the portal open. The pocket watch is used for setting the time in which we want the portal to lead to and the book contains the spell that actives the other two items and opens the portal.”
“So all we have to do is use these things and their friends can help us?” Kuwabara asked.
“If it were that simple than yes. But unfortunately I don't have the other two. They are located in separate locations.”
“Great. Why does that not surprise me? So where are the other two?” Yusuke asked.
“The pocket watch will be relatively easier than the book to find. That's because it is located here in the human world, where as the book is in demon world. Fortunately we know the location of both. It's just a matter of getting them.”
“At least we know where they are. That's made one thing easier on us,” Genkai said.
“Ah excuse me. But why is the book much harder to get? Is it because it's in the demon world? Can't we just go there?” Kagome asked.
“Well both yes and no. I'll be able to make a small hole in the barrier for a short time while someone goes through. But I can't keep it open for long and as far as the book goes I don't know what dangers linger with it,” Koenma said.
From his place over in the corner they heard Hiei make a noise. Everyone looked at him. Hiei opened his eyes and looked at them.
“There's no need to worry about that book. I'll have it in no time,” Hiei said.
“I guess all that's left is some planning than,” Yusuke said with a smirk.
“Alright than. Let's split up into teams,” Koenma said.
