Immortal Whispers
I do not own Inuyasha or YYH! Though I really wish I did. Like the rest of you…
500 years in the past:
Rain fell from the sky in torrents, soaking anything and everything in its path within seconds. The sound of the rain hitting the ground and trees in the meadow would usually sooth and calm anyone, but its charm went unnoticed to the woman kneeling before the giant tree in front of her.
The girl from the future wept harshly into her hands, the heart wrenching sobs barely audible in the hard rain. She raised her puffy blood shot eyes to the tree in front of her, the place she first laid eyes on Inuyasha and freed him from his imprisonment. "Why? Why did you do this to me Inuyasha?" she cried, her body shaking with the force of her tears.
&Flash Back 15 minutes before&
Kagome hopped out of the well, grunting as she pulled her yellow backpack up over the lip of the well. She looked around carefully, her breaths coming out in short pants as her confusion settled in the pit of her stomach, making her thoughts race. `I hope Inuyasha and the gang are alright… I thought for sure after I didn't return when I said I would he would come get me but that was three days ago!'
Slowly she trudged towards Kaede's village, expanding her miko senses to make sure there was no immediate danger in the area. Finding none, she continued, panting lightly as she adjusted the shoulder strap of her backpack. She furrowed her brows slightly at a sound in the forest caught her attention just as the rain began to fall from the sky.
Groans and moans of pleasure could be heard off to her left. Blushing a deep red, Kagome looked around before continuing towards her destination. She ignored the sounds as best as she could, but the voices sounded slightly familiar.
Her blood ran cold and her heart seemed to stop beating in her chest when she heard the woman speak. "Oh Inuyasha!" Slowly Kagome turned towards the sounds, her eyes wide and her mouth open in shock. She took a few steps in the direction of the sounds but froze in place when she heard the man groan loudly. "Kikyou!"
Kagome gasped, her head shaking from side to side and her hand covering her mouth as she walked forward, silent tears coursed down her cheeks. "No… please gods no…" she whispered to herself, her throat closing up when she gazed upon the two lovers in an intimate embrace.
Inuyasha lay overtop Kikyo on the grass, licking the fresh bite mark he made on her neck lovingly. They both panted heavily and clung to each other tightly as the rain came down on them, soaking the pile of discarded clothes next to them.
She watched them kiss, her heart breaking as she backed away, trying to keep herself from screaming in sorrow. She stopped suddenly as they began to speak to one another, her eyes widening slightly.
"Inuyasha… I love you…" Kikyo said, smirking up at Inuyasha as she ran her fingers through his hair. "And you know I am but a shell of what I used to be… we must retrieve the rest of my soul from my incarnate."
Inuyasha cringed at her words, too blind to see the evil glint in Kikyo's eye before he shook his head and replied softly. "H-Hai, my love… but I need Kagome to search out the rest of the jewel shards for me. Can we wait until after we defeat Naraku?"
Kagome gasped lightly, her head shaking lightly as she back herself against a tree. `No! He wouldn't, he is my friend!' she thought.
Kikyo smiled softly and shook her head. "Naraku and the wolf are the only ones who hold the shards besides you… we do not need her anymore." She cooed before running her hand down his back.
Kagome ran as fast as she could, the now pouring rain and her tears blinding her. She sobbed lightly into her hands, her backpack falling from her shoulder and to the ground, but it went unnoticed.
She stopped, out of breath and her muscles aching and looked up at the God tree, just now realizing that she had been running in this direction. Dropping to her knees she let out a heart wrenching wail pass her lips.
&End Flash Back&
"KAGOME!" Inuyasha bellowed, making Kagome snap her head in the direction she ran from. Fear and sorrow crept into her, making her body freeze and her breathing cease for a moment before they continued in harsh puffs of air.
Inuyasha stepped into the clearing shirtless, Kagome's backpack in one clawed hand. He growled as he stepped closer to her, the backpack landing on the forest floor with a dull thump. He stalked closer to her, his claws flexing and a determined look in his eyes.
Kagome closed her eyes and sat back against the God tree, whimpering lightly as she wrapped her arms around her knees, crying softly into them as she awaited her demise. After a few tense moments she stopped sniffling, but didn't raise her head for fear of what she would see.
Inuyasha stopped in his track and sniffed the air, a look of confusion coming to his face as he gazed around the area with careful eyes. Kikyo walked into the clearing after him, her bow at her side. She scanned the area, searching for any aura before notching an arrow and looking over at Inuyasha. "Well? Where is she?" she demanded.
Kagomes eyes snapped open, open mouth opening slightly as she raised her head enough to watch the two in front of her, looking just as confused as Inuyasha. "I… I don't know. Her scent stops here." He replied, pointing to a spot in front of him, his brows furrowing.
Kagome stared in awe as the stepped closer to her there eyes seeming to just pass right over her and see right through her like she wasn't there. Kikyo scoffed lightly and narrowed her eyes at Inuyasha. "Impossible! Come on, we will check the village.." she said, turning away from the hanyou in disgust. Inuyasha plastered his ears to his skull before following, his head down.
Kagome watched them leave, not moving even though she knew they were gone. `What is going on?' she thought before standing slowly on shaky legs. Suddenly the rain stopped falling on and around her, but the sounds of it were still all around her.
Kagome widened her eyes and looked around, turning in a complete circle before hugging herself tightly. "What…?" she said softly to herself.
A low feminine laugh filled the clearing, making Kagome turn her head quickly towards the God tree and look up into its branches where the sound seemed to be coming from. Slowly her eyes widened at the sight in front of her…
