Last time…

A low feminine laugh filled the clearing, making Kagome turn her head quickly towards the God tree and look up into its branches where the sound seemed to be coming from. Slowly her eyes widened at the sight in front of her…

A woman lay on her stomach on a large branch, her purple hair falling down and framing her face. Large bat-like wings hover over her back. Stretching like a cat the woman ended the light laugh with a purr before flicking her hair out of her face and looking down at Kagome with bright silver eyes, amusement written on her beautiful face.

Kagome gasped and took a step back as she watched the woman stand and jump from the branch, landing gracefully on her feet. "Wh-Who are you?" Kagome asked softly, her fear rising.

The woman gave a toothy grin, her canines hanging over the edge of her lower lip before bowing deeply. Her black leathery wings fluttered slightly as she pulled herself upright. "Forgive me, my dear Kagome… I am called Angoli." She purred, her ten foot long black tail curled around her waist, the end of her tail swaying slightly at her side.

Kagome gazed in fascination, her eyes traveling over her delicate features and she stopped to admire her glowing silver eyes and purple markings below her eyes and on her eyelids, much like Sess's. The only difference being the color and the diamonds shapes below them.

She watched as Angoli smirked, her blood red lips pouting a bit as she tilted her head to the side slightly. Kagome blushed and looked down at her shoes before raising her eyes to watch Angoli's waist length hair dance in the light breeze that seemed to always surround her, that's when she really noticed the wings. Angoli stood maybe an inch taller than Kagome's five foot three, but what caught her attention was that Angoli's wings were nearly three feet above her head! The ends of her wings nearly touched the ground despite that fact.

Angoli crossed her arms and chuckled lightly at Kagome's expressions of awe and disbelief. She was used to this silent reaction. After all, it wasn't every day you see one of her kind!

Kagome's eyes traveled over Angoli, her brows furrowing slightly at her attire. It wasn't of this eras… and not really of hers either. She wore a revealing sleeveless purple bodice that laced up at the shoulders and front, showing off the smooth flawless skin of her stomach and some of her chest. Her black pants were loose and airy, hanging off her well-rounded hips. Her feet were clad in ankle high black combat boots with silver buckles at the sides. She wore two swords at her side; one's Kagome thought looked a bit familiar, but couldn't put her finger on it.

Malaya brought a hand to her side, her gold charm bracelet jingling slightly as she brought out her sword some, showing Kagome the image of a heron on the upper blade. "This is the heron mark sword. Made from a special blend of metals so it would never break or need sharpened. It also has quite a bit of magic too… given to me by a goddess." She explained, smiling softly. "It is much like that hanyou's… only stronger and more effective."

Kagome blushed and nodded. "Forgive me for staring… " She looked up into Angoli's eyes and furrowed her brows. "What are you? And why did Inuyasha and Kikyo not see me sitting in plain view?" she asked softly, rocking back on her heels some.

Angoli chuckled and nodded her head. "I am a protector. I was made and sent by the Gods and the Fates to protect the protector of the Shikon Jewel... In other words, you." She waved a hand and rolled her eyes. "They knew this was going to happen, and that Kikyo and Inuyasha would go after you. So naturally, they assigned me to watch over you when the time came."

Kagome widened her eyes and nodded her head softly, her lower lip going between her teeth as tears gathered in her eyes. Angoli sighed heavily and drooped her shoulders a bit, her wings mimicking the action before she walked towards Kagome, throwing a comforting wing over her shoulder and leading her towards the God tree. "I know it doesn't seem fair right now… but it is the way it must be. You will understand later on, when all is revealed." She said, a low purr coming from her chest.

Kagome looked over at Angoli, a small smile coming to her lips. It was strange… she just met this woman, but she could tell she could trust her, her heart told her it was so. "Okay… um, what about Inuyasha and Kikyo? I mean, they are trying to…" her throat closed up an her for a moment and she started to speak again, only to be interrupted by a loud yell. "Kagome!" It was Inuyasha.

Kagome gasped and they both turned their heads in his direction. Angoli narrowed her eyes and took a deep breath as the two stepped into the clearing. "Leave them to me." She replied softly before turning towards the angry hanyou and his dead companion.

Inuyasha glared in Kagome's direction, his gaze flicking towards Angoli as he brought his hand to the hilt of his sword. Suddenly vines wrapped around his arms and legs before he was brutally shoved against a tree. He struggled and growled as he was disarmed, the sword falling to the ground at his feet. "What the hell?! Hey! Let me go!" He cried out, watching as Angoli walked closer to Kikyo. "Leave her alone wench!"

Angoli casts a fleeting glance at the angry hanyou before looking back towards Kikyo, stalking towards her slowly. Kikyo notched an arrow and pointed it in her direction, her eyes devoid of emotion. "Release him." She demanded in an equally dead voice.

Angoli smirked lightly before shaking her head. "You have something that belongs to my Master. I plan to return to her what is rightfully hers." She answered in a purr, her tail flicking back and forth behind her as it unwrapped itself from her waist.

Kikyo narrowed her eyes. "Her soul belongs to me, it was mine before she was born. Now release him and move away from the girl!" Angoli chuckled at Kikyo's words, her head shaking lightly. "It was never your soul Kikyo, and you know that. You were all wrong in believing she was your reincarnation, she is Midoriko's reincarnation."

Kikyo pulled her bowstring back farther. "You lie." She hissed before releasing her arrow. Purple energy wrapped around the end as it hurtled towards Angoli. Angoli narrowed her eyes at the offending arrow before it burst into pieces a few feet from her, the winds swirling around her picking up a bit, making her hair swirl in the wind.

"You know I speak the truth, Kikyo. Now prepare to return what you stole!" Angoli said, her eyes widening slightly as a silver energy swirled around her. Kikyo cried out, her hand going to her chest as she dropped to her knees in pain. Souls of the dead woman began to leak from her chest and fly towards the sky.

Kagome watched in awe as both women in front of her were enveloped in pure silver energy and the souls began to escape. Kikyo's soul catchers tried returning some, but as soon as they got close to the energy around Kikyo they exploded. She looked over to see Inuyasha's stunned face as he watched in horror.

Suddenly the souls stopped as Kikyo slumped to the ground. The last soul emerged and moved towards Kagome quickly, the purple tinge leaving it and turning pink just before it slammed into her chest, making her stumble back some from the impact.

Everyone froze for a moment as the silver energy faded a bit. Angoli slowly approached Kikyo, one hand raising before she looked towards Kagome, talking to her telepathically. "I give you the choice. I can return her own soul to her, or let it rest."

Kagome took a deep breath, looking over at her the man she once loved, tears coming to her eyes at her memories before she nodded her head softly and replied in her head. `I would rather see him happy with her, than miserable here.'

Angoli smiled softly as she shook her head, speaking to her across the clearing and making sure the hanyou could hear. "Your heart is big, my master. Any other would just leave her go to hell where she belongs and ordered the slaughter of the betraying hanyou." She sent a glare at the Hanyou, who lowered his ears in sorrow and shame. "But that is why you were chosen to protect the jewel. That is what makes you strong." She turned her head back towards Kikyo, her eyes closing as she concentrated.

Kikyo rose from the ground, her body limp. A pinkish-purple light descended from the heavens, hesitating a moment before going into her chest. Kikyo gasped loudly, her lungs filling with air before her eyes snapped open. She slowly made her way down to the ground, a confused and scared look on her face.

The silver energy left both Angoli and Kikyo as her knees hit the ground. Kikyo looked between the three, tears coming to her eyes. "What… what happened? Where am I?" she asked softly. Inuyasha's eyes got huge as he watched; tears leaking from his eyes as Kikyo spoke. The vines grew slack around him, and he quickly removed them from his body before rushing to Kikyo's side and falling to his knees, his hand clasping hers tightly. "Kikyo?" he asked, his voice shaking lightly.

Kikyo looked into Inuyasha's eyes, tears leaking from her own before she threw herself into his arms. "Inuyasha!" she sobbed in his arms for a moment before stiffening and pulling away. "How…"

Kagome's heart broke as she watched the two, a small sad smile coming to her lips. She watched as Angoli approached her and stood at her side before she looked over at her, smiling softly as their eyes met. "I am proud of you…" Angoli breathed, patting Kagome's shoulder lightly as Kagome nodded. "Thank you… Angoli." Kagome said softly, looking back at the couple as they stood and approached her.

Kikyo looked between Kagome and Angoli before throwing her arms around both of them. "Thank you so much…" she said, her voice shaking with emotion. Kagome sighed before wrapping an arm around Kikyo. "Your welcome…" Angoli stiffened considerably before patting the woman on her back lightly. "Feh."

Inuyasha watched, his ears plastered to his head as he stared at Kagome, sorrow in his eyes. "Kagome… I'm… I'm sorry." He said, a tear coming from his eye. Kagome looked at Inuyasha for a long moment before nodding her head softly and smiling lightly, tears in her eyes. "I know Inuyasha. I... I just want you to be happy."

Angoli growled softly and glared at Inuyasha. "I hope for you sake, you never have thoughts about it again. I will not hesitate in killing you." She said harshly before gesturing towards Kikyo. "She has an excuse. Because she was without her soul, she could only hate and crave revenge. You have no excuse." She said sternly, watching as he flinched visibly.

Angoli sighed softly as she crossed her arms in front of her and closed her eyes, speaking telepathically with Kagome and Inuyasha. "She know not of what she did. I erased the memories of her plotting to kill Kagome, so she won't ever remember. But she knows everything else."

Kagome and Inuyasha looked at Angoli thankfully before returning their attention to the woman sobbing in Kagome's arms. Kikyo let Kagome go and sniffled lightly before meeting her eyes. "I owe both of you. More than I could ever repay. Thank you…" she said, looking between Angoli and Kagome before stepping back into Inuyasha's welcoming arms.

The rain stopped around them and the sun began to peek over the horizon as they stood there. Angoli shifted in her spot before clearing her throat some. "Come, you will need rest before we go retrieve the rest of the shards." She said before walking towards Kaede's.

Inuyasha blinked and looked around before nodding, taking Kikyo's hand. "You… you still want me to help?" he asked, looking between Kagome and Angoli. Kagome nodded quickly as Angoli stopped and stiffened, her back still turned as she listened. "Of course! I really want you and Kikyo to come…" Kagome answered easily, a smiling a true smile as Kikyo grabbed her hand and began walking towards Kaede's.

Inuyasha looked at Angoli's back as they walked closer, waiting for her answer. "Hn." Angoli replied before she began walking again, a small smile coming to her lips as Kagome started chatting happily with Kikyo. Inuyasha smiled softly in understanding before he grabbed Kikyo's hand and began walking with them, listening to them chatter away.

Oh, I changed my mind… I was going to have Angoli and Kagome become one person, kind of like Kurama, but it wouldn't work out like I hoped. So this will be a Kurama/Angoli and Kagome/Hiei fic! Thanks for reading! Please let me know if you see any misspelled names! R&R PLEASE!
