CHAPTER 1

drip
Her breath burned her lungs as she ran.
drip
Her legs begged for her to stop running, to lie down and never get up.
drip

She could hear her pursuers gaining on her.
drip
This is all a mistake!
drip

Why is this happening?
drip
What will happen to her family?
drip
The tiny figure ran blindly through the forest in an attempt to get away from the pain and sorrow that threatened to envelope her.
drip
Her small furry ears twitched with every step her antagonists made.
drip
She knew that it was no use running, they would be able to follow her trail easily.
drip

Water! She could hear water!
drip
She could feel the falls through her paws as they struck the ground.
drip
The tiny shadow skidded to a halt a few feet before the drop off of the waterfall.

drip

This was her only chance; they wouldn't be able to follow her through the water.
drip
She took one last look at the forest that she had called home before jumping off the rocky ledge into the churning, white waters of the falls.
STOP!
The saltwater stung her wounds painfully, and seemed to rip the very life from her body. She saw the air bubbles rise through the water as she floated lifelessly down the great canal.
No, stop please.
The small black body hauled itself from the rough ledge she had been deposited on and smiled weakly. She had made it; she had survived the spirit detectives. The smile quickly fell from her face, as if it had been weighted. She was the only one who survived; her family was dead, she was sure of it.
Someone…
The obsidian fox curled onto a tight ball, her tail covering her muzzle and her last memory of her family and what she used to be. She shivered violently one last time before finally falling into a restless slumber.
…please wake me up.
When the fox awoke she slowly rose, mindful of her wounds, and started running. She could feel the spirit detective hit men gaining on her.
Kami-sama please…just let me wake up.

Kagome sat up in her bed, tears leaving warm tracks down her face, and started screaming at the top of her lungs in pain. The raven-haired beauty clutched her right shoulder and clenched her teeth.
Her mother came rushing in, knowing exactly what to expect. Kagome had been having these dreams on the full moon ever since she was a baby. She would always wake up clutching her shoulder and screaming. It was kind of disturbing, because you could tell she was in pain but you couldn't see what was wrong with her. Mrs. H. (what is her name???I really need to know cuz I might use her a lot in this fic) would try to comfort her daughter, but it was no use. There was no consoling the distraught young woman, she would scream for hours on end then fall back exhausted. The worst part was that she couldn't remember her dreams. They had been to therapist after therapist, but it did no good. She would tell them the same thing.
`I cant remember what the dream was about. All I remember are the feelings of fear, and sorrow. They almost overpower me. Then when I wake up my shoulder hurts, like someone is trying to rip out all my bones through that one spot.'
Mrs. H. shuddered at her daughter's description of the pain. Did she have to be so graphic? Then again, she has been feeling it since she was a baby so she would be able to describe it aptly.
Kagome pulled away from her mother's warm, comforting embrace. She hated lying to her mother but it was a necessary evil. There is no way that she could tell the truth, her mother would disown her. Kagome shook her head to rid herself of such depressing thoughts.

Kagome smiled weakly at her mother before lying back down in her plush, four-poster bed.
" Thank you momma, I'm ok now."
Her mother looked concerned for a moment then smiled and gave her a kiss on the forehead.
"I'm glad sweetie, now go to sleep."
"Hai momma."
Her mother gave her one last soothing hug before exiting the overly large bedchamber. Kagome let out a sigh of relief when she was gone.
I can't tell momma, she would never forgive me.
Kagome's golden eyes hardened in resolution as she threw off her blankets, she wouldn't be able to sleep after that last memory. Kagome rose silently to turn off her alarm clock and get dressed for her new school. She wouldn't ever tell anyone about her past. After all who would believe her, youkai don't exist anymore.
