Chapter 3: 1st Day of School
The next day, Kenny stood at the front of the school with her friends. She smiled when she saw Yusuke and the others.
"Over here!" she called, and waved. The boys walked over to her. "Okay, Yusuke, Kwabara, Kurama, and Hiei, meet my friends Sarah, Amanda, Dee, Kassi, and Amber. Amber, Kassi, Sarah, Amanda, Dee, meet Yusuke, Kuwabara, Kurama, and Hiei." She motioned to each as she spoke.
The girls all looked at the boys, especially Kurama. "Man, Kenny, you're lucky," said Sarah.
"I'm just showing them around school, Sarah," she said.
"Sure you are," teased Amanda. Kenny rolled her eyes.
"You guys know me, I wouldn't do that."
"Yeah, we know, we're just playing," Amber said. "And you're on chip duty for the A.M.W., okay?"
"Okay…We have to get to first hour now, see you guys 3rd." Kenny started walking away, and the boys followed.
"What's your first hour, Kenny?" asked Kurama.
"Drama, and its presenting day for poetry, but don't worry, you're new, so you won't have to perform…Here's my locker, your lockers are right here." She motioned to four lockers. "Doesn't matter who gets which locker, just pick one." Kenny opened her locker and put her backpack in it and began removing books from it.
After they had chosen their lockers and put their things inside it, Kenny began to walk to the Drama room. "Mrs. Benn is pretty nice, she'll call you by any name you want to be called by. Most of the teachers just call you by your last name or your first name."
Kenny walked inside the Drama room, and was greeted by a woman with short black hair. She was wearing a bule vest and slacks. "Hi, Kenny."
"Hi Mrs. Benn. I'm ready to present today…Oh, and these are the new students," Kenny pointed to the boys behind her.
The teacher smiled at them. "Hi, boys, I'm Mrs. Benn, the Drama teacher. We're presenting poetry today, but you just got here, so don't worry about it."
After the bell rang and role was called, the teacher asked for volunteers to read their poetry. No one raised their hands. "Alright, since there are no volunteers, Kenny, why don't you go up?"
Kenny nodded politely and went to the podium at the front of the class. She recited two poems, "The Cremation of Sam McGee" by Robert Service and "Annabel Lee" by Edgar Allan Poe. When she spoke, you could see she really liked them. Her face and voice were full of emotion, as if she shared the writers' feelings. When she was done, everyone clapped, and the Yu Yu gang looked shocked at how well she did. The teacher smiled. "A 100, as usual. Nice work, Kenny."
Kenny smiled, a real smile. She sat down and other people presented, and though none did as well as Kenny, she listened and clapped after every performance. Then the bell rang, and everyone got their things and left. "Come on, time for Geography," Kenny said to the four Spirit Detectives.
She led the way to a classroom and walked in, followed by the boys. The teacher sat behind his desk, then looked up and saw Kenny. "These are the new students," she said in a quiet voice, motioning to Yusuke and the others. The man merely nodded curtly and looked at the boys.
"I'm Mr. Mill, the Geography teacher," the man said, and left it at that. Kenny took her seat, and Mr. Mill assigned them places. Kurama got put next to Kenny, and the others were at random places.
The class was very boring. Even Kurama had trouble paying attention. At its end, everyone was glad to leave. "I don't like that class," Kenny said after they were out of hearing range of it. "Mr. Mill is mean and the way he teaches is boring. Oh, well. I like Language, and that's what we have next. Me and now you, plus Sarah, Amanda, Dee, Kassi, and Amber."
"The girls we met this morning?" asked Yusuke. She nodded.
"And I like Mrs. Felts too. She's the teacher. Oh, and there's no seating chart either," she said as she walked into a room, followed by the boys. She walked over to her friends, who were seated in a group and talking to each other. When she walked over, one of her friends said something that none of the S.D.s heard, but Kenny blushed.
Then Kenny looked back at the boys. "Oh, I'm sorry. I forgot to introduce you to Mrs. Felts." She led them to a tall blonde woman who had her hair in a ponytail.
"Mrs. Felts, these are the new students, Kurama, Yusuke, Kuwabara, and Hiei."
"Hello boys," said Mrs. Felts. "I'm the Language arts teacher, and as you can see, you can sit wherever you want, as long as no one is sitting there."
Kenny smiled and went back to where she was sitting with her friends. Kurama sat one seat from her, Yusuke sat on his left, Kuwabara sat on the other side of the girls, and Hiei sat in the back corner.
"Do you have your stuff packed?" asked Amber.
"Yeah. I've got the chips too," replied Kenny.
"Great! I'm bringing salsa and dip, Amber is on movie rental, Kassi is getting the comics, and Dee is on chocolate duty," said Amanda. Everyone in the group was addicted to chocolate.
"Awesome!. This may be our best one yet," said Kenny.
Then the bell rang. The rest of the day was boring. (And I'm just too lazy to write it out)
