Chapter One: Leave It All Behind

Kagome gasped when they got there. There were dead everywhere. "K-Kagome" a weak voice called her. She turned to the left and felt the tears well up in her eyes. She ran over to him while Sango checked for survivors. She fell to her knees beside him and pulled his head into her lap. "Kagome…he attacked us. I tried, I did, but-"

"Shh. Don't speak. I'm here now. I'll fix you up," she said, but on the inside knew it was too late for him. A tear fell and landed in his hair.

"Don't cry Kagome. You know I hate it when you cry," he told her.

"Please-don't speak. You need to save your energy so I can fix you up. Then you can tell me," she pleaded.

He let out a short, bark like laugh. ""Kagome-you know it's too late for me. And so do I. But before I go-I want you to know…I thank whatever Gods up there that I met you. You're my angel," he reached up and stroked her cheek as tears cascaded down her face in rivers.

`NO!' she mentally screamed. `I NEED you! I-I-I LOVE you!' "Kagome-just promise me you'll move on," he told her, his eyes glazing over and starting to close.

"NO! Don't-Don't leave me!" Kagome cried.

"I love you Kagome," he said, cupping her cheek and giving her, her first kiss. It was sweet and gentle.

"I love you too," she whispered, as both their eyes closed. He had a small, content smile on his face, while she let out chocked sobs, holding his body close.

"Kagome-there's no survivors," Sango said, tear trails on her cheeks. Kagome looked up at her and Sango gasped. The usually sparkling blue eyes were replaced by and empty grey. Sango fell to her knees beside her and pulled her into a hug.

"I-I loved him so much," Kagome cried.

"I know, I know," Sango said, rocking her.

~~~Flashback~~~
Kagome fell to her knees. Her eyes were dull grey, holding no trace of emotion. But her heart-did she even have a heart left? She felt someone wrap their arms around her and hold her close. "Koga?" she asked. He looked down at her and flashed her one of those cute grins of his.
He picked her up and carried her back to his cave. Over the few weeks he was there, he healed her heart and even made her love again.
~~~End Flashback~~~

But now he was gone! And she didn't think she could take it. Kagome dug graves for all of them, refusing help from Sango. The last grave she dug was his. She picked him up and laid him in his grave. Sango stood next to her as she said her last good-byes.

"You said I was your angel. But you were wrong. You were my angel. You guided me on my way, carried me thru the hard times, but lastly…you loved me with all your heart. So I thank you. I love you and I always will. Until that blissful day comes when I can see you in heaven again, I will live on for you-for us. I love you…wait for me," Kagome said, tears streaming down her cheeks.

With that she put the flowers on his grave and broke down in her sisters arms. She cried herself to sleep that night, begging Sango to let her stay in Koga's cave. Sango carried her over to his cave and laid her down on his bed. Kagome had taken Koga's headband and held onto it as though it was truly him. Sango settled down on a smaller bed, and drifted off to sleep, Kirara as her pillow.

Not long after, a figure in red walked in. He felt hurt. Inuyasha had followed them here, making sure Koga didn't make a move on Kagome. Then when he heard her say those three words, his heart shattered. He gently stroked Kagome's cheek and felt the tears roll down his cheeks when she said "I love you Koga". He left to go sleep on a tree where they wouldn't see him.

~~~Several Weeks Later~~~
Kagome snapped. Just completely broke. So she did the only thing that she could do-the one thing she had mastered over the years, and ran. She ran away from her friends, family, heartache, pain, life, but most of all from him. She couldn't STAND it! First he makes fun of Koga's death, THEN he goes running off to her without even consoling her tears.
So that was it. Screw it. Screw LIFE! `No-I have to live for him…Koga!' She cried as she clutched his headband. "KOGA!" Kagome cried, catching the attention of a certain hanyou, who was at the time currently busy with an undead miko. Also the attention of a demon slayer, houshi, and kit. The three rushed to the well, where they knew she would go. She was going to leave for good and she knew it. Inuyasha also knew what was happening and bounded to the well, leaving behind a very surprised miko zombie.
Kagome had reached the well at the same time as Inuyasha. She walked straight up to him and took off the prayer beads. She then turned as she saw Miroku, Sango, and Shippo come into the clearing. She walked up to Miroku, hugged him and gave him a kiss on the cheek. His violet eyes leaked tears into her dark hair. She turned to Sango and threw herself in the older girl's arms. Their tears melded into one. Then she turned to her son, who was silently mourning the loss of another parent. She scooped him up and gave him a kiss. She hugged him and with one hand took out her red scarf. She handed it to him and he snuggled in it. She put him down VERY reluctantly and turned to face Inuyasha.
She reached up to her neck and you could here the chain snap. She wrapped his rosary around her hand and walked to him. It seemed at that moment only those two existed. Nothing else mattered. Kagome opened his hand and pressed the tiny chunk of the jewel in his palm. She closed it and looked up into his eyes. They seemed to tell him a message he didn't understand at the time. That message was `I'm sorry. I failed you all. I love you all, and now we will be free. I will be free.' "Free," she whispered as she headed to the well. "I love you all. Forgive me," she whispered and was gone. She was free. And she never heard the anguished howl or sobs coming from them. Never heard the shattering of all their hearts. And lastly, she never heard the whispered words of a hanyou. The words she had longed to hear. I Love You.
Kagome sunk to her knees ad the purple light faded. She cried. She felt empty. A shell. `Is this how Kikyo feels?' Kagome had to bite her tongue to hold back the maniacal laughter. But she soon broke again. `I hate life. I want to be someone else. I don't want to be me!' So, she did what she thought-no. What her mind registered at that moment-RUN!
And run she did.
She ran away from the shrine. She ran away from her family. She ran away from her love. Hell, she ran to a place she didn't even know. All she thought that kept her running was the four commanding words: Leave It All Behind.
