Chapter Three: Standing There With A Deal

Kagome ran and ran and ran. She had no idea of where she was going; all she knew was that running numbed the pain in her heart. She closed her eyes and gripped Koga's headband and Inuyasha's rosary close to her heart. She didn't register the sound of footsteps beside her, only that her heart hurt and she didn't like it. Tears streamed unnoticed out of her closed eyes. And then she fell.

She screamed and opened her eyes in fear. She skidded across the hard ground. She had scraped her knees and arms. They were bleeding like crazy. She whimpered as the aching in her legs caught up to her. And then she felt two strong but gentle hands lift her up slowly. She was brought into the arms of a young guy about her age that was wearing a green uniform and had black hair.

She stared into his chocolate eyes. Her eyes told him a message. One, he realized, his own held. They were asking for help. Help to get away from a horrible past. And her vision blurred. She felt the blood run down her arms and legs. The pain-it felt so good and bad all at once. She didn't know why. Perhaps it was a pain not anywhere near the pain in her heart, that she cherished it. Or perhaps it was her terrible punishment for abandoning everyone.

She looked into his eyes, searching them. She could only see worry and a pain as great as her own in them. And she felt for him. But right now she couldn't do anything. She fell onto him completely. The events of the day slowly drifted away as she drifted into unconsciousness. And so, Yusuke lifted her onto his back and heard her breathe out a name. A very strange name at that. A name that meant dog demon. Inuyasha. The name stirred something inside him that he didn't understand. But he did understand that he had to get this girl help before she died of blood loss. So, he took off again in search of a hospital, running as fast as he could to the white building.

~~~Kagome's Dream~~~

Kagome was surrounded by darkness. "Hello?" she called out. "Koga? Inuyasha? Sango?" She felt a pulse in her right hand and looked down. Koga's headband was glowing a soft blue. She felt a cold chill rush over her and looked up again. There, only a few feet away from her, she saw Koga. She ran to him and got there at the same time another Kagome did. She reached out to touch him and was surprised when she was blown back. `This is the day-the day he d-died' Kagome thought, tears pouring down her cheeks. And she watched as the whole scene unfolded. Up to the very part where Inuyasha came and she made him cry. She grabbed her heart as it shattered again. Suddenly a voice, soft as an ocean breeze, spoke. But its words were not connected. Kagome could only make out "You", "Left", and "Happy". Then it was gone.

She felt another pulse, in her left hand this time. She looked down to see Inuyasha's rosary glowing a dark red. This time she felt as though she had been doused in cold water. She looked up again and realized that this was when she left. She again tried to touch all of them, but was blown back again. She watched up until she heard Inuyasha's howl of grief when the voice came back again. "You", "Them", "Anguish" was all she made out before it was gone. And she was alone again. Alone. Empty. Nothing. And she fell to the ground, no longer feeling sad, or happy, or anything. Simply empty. Then she felt a hand on her shoulder. And she looked up.

~~~End Dream~~~

"Hey. Hey," Yusuke started shaking the girl on the bed. She slowly opened one eye. She closed it again for a minute before groaning and sitting up. She looked around. First confusion, then hurt, then realization, and lastly fear passed thru her features.

"W-where? Why?" Kagome panicked.

"Hey, calm down would ya," the boy said. She turned to look at him, and then the memories deluged her. And she felt the tears come. And cried. He hated when she cried. They both did actually. And she felt alone, as alone as in her dream. Then she felt strong arms wrap around her and hold her close. "Hey, come on. What's wrong?" Yusuke said gently.

So, Kagome spilled it. Just told him everything. She expected him to laugh, to make fun of her. But he didn't. In fact, he just paled a bit and held her closer. "Y-you b-believe me?" Kagome whispered. "But…why?"

He flashed her a grin and she had a little flashback of Koga. "Trust me," he said. "There are still a LOT of demons in this time. But this Naraku guy ain't dead yet?" He stared into those grey eyes of her that were somehow flecked with blue.

"Well, he will be if I-Inuy-yasha didn't kill him," she said, and for a second there Yusuke could see the love and regret flash thru her eyes. "Please? Can we go? I-I don't want to stay here," she said. Yusuke nodded in understanding. He took off his green jacket and draped it around her. He quickly went about the room and took some gauze and peroxide, which he stuffed into his pockets. He went back to Kagome, and with many hisses of pain, managed to get her onto his back. He walked up and down the hallway, and seeing no one, took off. He quietly made his way out of the building, Kagome nuzzling into his neck.

~~~About 3 hours later~~~

Knock Knock. "Hello?"

"Fox! It's me Yusuke! Can I come inside?" Yusuke hissed, thoroughly exhausted. The person identified as Fox helped Yusuke in. Yusuke walked over to the couch and put Kagome down on the couch. He straightened up and stretched his back.

"What brings you here Yusuke? And who's that?" Fox asked.

Yusuke groaned. "Can we talk over a cup of coffee or something?" he begged. Fox nodded and walked into the kitchen Yusuke following her.

~~One pot of coffee later~~~

"Well, you see. I ran away," Yusuke said, staring into his coffee. "And then I met this girl here. She got hurt and I took her to a hospital where we left as soon as she came to," he said, glancing at Kagome then the gauze and peroxide.

"I see," Fox said. She looked down sadly.

"So, how's your family?" Yusuke asked.

Fox groaned. "Ugh. Terrible."

"Oh-I'm sorry," Yusuke said. There was an awkward silence.

"Yusuke?" Fox asked him quietly. "Can I come along with you guys?"

Yusuke sat there shocked. He blinked a few times and then nodded slowly. "If ya want to, then I guess ya can."

Fox immediately brightened up. "Thanks Yusuke," she whispered. They heard a whimper from the other room. Yusuke and Fox where immediately by Kagome's side. She was sweating and thrashing about viciously. She kept on screaming that name Inuyasha and this other name Koga. Then she broke into tears. Fox got worried and immediately sat down next to the girl. She shook her awake gently. "Hey…Are you okay Hun? Wake up," she said.

Kagome sat bolt upright, tears flowing freely down her face. She grabbed onto Fox, who comforted the girl. Kagome was soon calm and wiped her eyes. "I-I'm sorry," she whispered. "All I seem to do lately is cry." Fox patted her back.

"We all cry sometimes," she said. "By the way I'm Fox. And I guess you don't know his name yet, but he's Yusuke."

Kagome gave a weak smile. "I'm Kagome. Kagome Higurashi."

Yusuke proceeded to ask her, "Well-since your running away, you wanna come with us?"

And Kagome looked at the boy who was standing there with a deal. When someone offers you something-why not take it? So, she did…
