Chapter 6

 

~Night time a month later~

 

Brooke laid in bed contemplating on what Hiei had said to her the night Naraku had kidnapped her. He wants to court me! What does that mean? I read in books that a animal leaves his or her mark showing to other animals alike that this one has a mate. The mark can be removed by either killing the demon. I hope he knows I'm only 16 going on 17. I'm not even that bright or mature. She thought to her self. The thought of being with Hiei made her feel loved and safe inside. I do love him she said to herself. All this talk of love made her think of a song by Lindsay Lohan, Very last moment in time. She went over the lyrics in her head. Live like it's the last moon rising/ scream just like no one's there/ hold you touch you, love you like it's the last moment in time.

 

Before Brooke went to sleep her brother Yuske walked into the room to tell her good night. “Hey” Yuske said walking over to sit on her bed. Hey I know it's your birthday tomorrow, and all I wanted to know if you wanted to take a break and hang out with the guys and me. We can do what you want. He said. Really? Brooke said with a smug look on her face. I'd love to. We can go shopping. She said in a cheer. Yuskes smile turned upside down at the thought of shopping. “Yuske” Brooke said. Huh!?! He said turning towards her. You said anything. She said. I know he replied. Don't worry, she said. We can do what you want, and I'm inviting Kieko and Kagome. She said with a smile. He turned and lied down on her bed beside her.

 

She turned over to look at him and smiled. Yuske what's wrong? She asked. Nothing I'm just thinking. About what? She asked again. I don't know, your birthday tomorrow, Kieko and everything else. She turned over on her stomach and looked at him. Your thinking about Kieko? She asked. Yea why? He asked. You don't seem the type to think about girls. She said. Yea and my birthday. She said up and was sitting on her legs. Have you turned into a softy? She asked. Hell now he said. Well that's good she said. Cause I wouldn't know what the world was coming to if so. She said grinning. (yawning) Brooke looked over to see her broth sleeping on her bed. She covered him up and went to sleep lying beside him.

 

~Morning~

 

Kuwabara came running into the bedroom singing happy birthday to Brooke. He sat on the bed trying to get her and Yuske up. Kurama leaned against the wall frame watching the two siblings getting annoyed with their friend. Brooke finally jumped out of bed pushing Kuwabara off the bed. She tumbled out of the bed and landed on them. Hiei walked in and stood by Kurama. Kurama looked down to Hiei. They look happy don't they Kurama asked looking at Brooke wrestling with Kuwabara. “Hn”. You can't honestly say that she doesn't mean anything to you. Kurama said.

 

I didn't say that Hiei said. Hiei turned away and began walking off. Tell her I said hi. He said.

 

Where are you going? Kurama asked.

 

There's no use in me staying over here. He said leaving.

 

Kurama turned back to the group on the floor. Brooke got up after Yuske and Kuwabara started arguing. She walked over to Kurama and said hi on her way down stairs to get the phone.

 

He stopped by to say hi. Kurama said. Brooke stopped in her tracks and turned to him. Who stopped by? She asked. Hiei. He said in a cool tone. Kurama walked over to her and put his hand on her shoulder, and said I won't tell. As he walked down the stairs. She ran after him. “wait” she said. How did you find out? She asked that night I helped you out of the ditch, I could smell the scent of him all over you. He said. Her expression was stunned. How is it I always get caught off guard. She looked up at him and gave him a fake smile, and grabbed the phone and ran out side as fast as she could.

 

Ugh! Brooke said as she went outside. She dialed Kagome's number and asked to speak to her. Hey what's up? Brooke asked. Nothing and happy birthday she said. Hey I wanted to know if you could hang out with me and the guys for my birthday? She asked. Yea that'd be awesome. Kieko and I will be over in a minute. She said hanging up. (yawning) Brooke walked over to a stream and placed her legs into the water. She laid down on the ground and looked up at the sky. She got out of the water when she heard Yuske calling for her. She ran up to the house and got ready for the day.

 

~Brookes room~

 

Brooke had just gotten out of the shower and had a towel rapped around her body and she rummaging through her stuff looking for something to where. She pulled out her tan skirt and her black high top converse and a black shirt that said outlaw in pink. She ran downstairs to catch up with her brother and Kieko and Kagome who were waiting for her. Kieko ran up to her and hugged her and said happy birthday. Kieko I'm not turning 31. Brooke said sarcastically. Yea I know. She said. Brooke and the girls walked outside. The boys came after. Brooke jumped in the front seat. Kieko and Kagome got in the back with the other boys. Yuske jumped into the drivers seat. Yuske turned over to talk to Brooke. “So what ya wanna do?” he asked.

 

 

“Hmmmm” I'd say shopping and then let's go to the lake. She said.

 

“Alright” he said. Trying to sound enthusiastic.

 

I didn't know we were going swimming! Keiko said.

 

That's why were going to the mall. Kagome said. So just sit back and enjoy the ride.

 

Kagome, she turned ad looked at Kuzuama.

 

What do you want she asked.

 

You can sit on my lap, it's getting a little cramped.

 

I'll live she said.

 

Yuske rolled his eyes and they took off.

 

~Mall~

 

 

Brooke, Kieko, and Kagome walked into Pac sun, the guys sat outside on a bench waiting for them to get back.

 

What's up with girls and clothes. Yuske asked.

 

I don't know. Kuwabara said. Good think Yukina isn't like that. He said smiling.

 

Kurama looked up and saw Brooke looking at him the second he looked up at her she moved her head back down into the rack of bathing suits. Kurama smiled.

 

So Yuske what's this demon that Koenma needs up to destroy, With the help of your sister. Kurama asked.

 

I don't know. I think his name is Naraku. We encountered him. Yuske said.

 

Keiko hurry up. Me and Kagome already have a bathing suit. Brooke complained. You know what I have and idea I'll be right back. She said walking out of the store.

 

She walked over to the guys who were making eye contact with a group of girls across the way. She made her way over to them and grabbed Yuskes arm. Come with me, your girlfriend need your opinion. Brooke said. The others turned to look at the two of them walk off.

What do you need? He asked annoyed.

 

I don't need anything, but Keiko does. She said.

 

“Keiko” Brooke called. Come out.

 

I have her in there trying on a bathing suit. Kagome said.

 

Alright. Keiko said.

 

Keiko walked out, she was wearing a pink and white bathing suit. She saw Yuske was staring at her. She looked over to him and turned beat red. Yuskes face also turned red. He turned around as Keiko covered herself up. Brooke nudged Yuske.

 

Sexy? Right! Brooke said giggling, kagome couldn't help but laugh. Kuwabara and Kurama walked in and looked down at them. WHOA! Keiko you look hot. Kuwabara said staring at her.

 

Go away. Keiko said complaining. Yuske hit Kuwabara in the head. Ouch. He said.

 

We'll be outside. Yuske said walking off. Brooke walked up to Kurama and told him to meet her in a jewelry store. (James Aviary) *Love that store* he looked to her and nodded.

 

The girls walked out of the store. Brooke tossed 2 bags at Yuske and Kuwabara.

 

What's this? They both asked at once.

 

 

You didn't think we'd for get about you guys, did ya'll? She asked.

 

I knew you loved me. Kuwabara said kissing Brookes hand.

 

 

EWWWWWWWWWWW. She squealed. I don't like you. NOT IF YOU WERE THE LAST MAN ON THE PLANET. You look like carrot top. She said.

 

Well then I have to be somewhere I'll be right back. Alright. Brooke said running off into the direction Kurama went.

 

Hey, where did Kurama go? Kagome asked.

 

He had to be somewhere. Yuske said.

 

Okay lets go to the cookie corner. Kagome said.

 

So they went.

 

~James Aviary~

 

O hey, Brooke said. She handed him a bag.

 

What's this? He asked.

 

Me and the girls bought ya'll some suits for later. She said. Walking around.

 

Thank you he said. Kurama stared at her. He looked at her worn out converse, he stared at her long legs, and the tone of her skin, he looked at her face, he hadn't realized how much he had grown on her. He looked at her face, and saw her smile, he loved the way she smiled, and he beautiful hazel eyes. He looked at her as she looked into the glass cases of jewelry.

 

Isn't it beautiful? She asked.

 

Yes you are. Kurama said.

 

What did you say? She asked confused.

 

Kurama looked at her as he had made the biggest mistake of his life. “I said yes it is, he walked over to her. He saw her point to the cross.

 

I love crosses. She said it looks sorta like a sword doesn't it? She asked.

 

Yea, it sorta does. He replied.

 

Well let's look around some more. She said.

 

Kurama stared at the cross a little longer. He went and asked a lady about the pendant, and he bought it from her. When he walked over to Brooke she was looking at some lockets.

 

What ya think? She asked.

 

What? He asked.

 

Of the locket. She said.

 

O! it's nice. He said.

 

Really? She said sounding surprised. That's cool. She said. Brooke bought the locket. They both walked out of the store. Kurama stuck the little box into him back pocket. Brooke turned to him, Kurama, I will tell yuske when it's time. She said. He smiled at her in response.

 

I know you will. He said.

 

Thanks she said. He gave him a hug, and kissed him lightly on the cheek. He looked down at her and his cheeks turned a pretty pink. She started to giggle. He looked down at her confused.

 

C'mon you two. Yuske called. Brooke grabbed Kuramas hand and ran over to Yuske and the others. When they got over to them, Brooke jumped on Yuskes back and he raced out f the mall. She was laughing when he was running. Kuwabara was chasing after them.

 

~Girls Room at the lake~

 

Brooke! Keiko called. She was running up to them trying to catch up.

 

Yes. She said.

 

“Do you like Kurama?” Kagome asked.

 

Who? Me? No of course I don't me and him are just friends. She said.

 

Well you two have been getting along really well lately. Kagome said.

 

Well there's nothing going on between us. She said, I think there isn't. she said.

 

Do you think he's a little cute in anyway at all? Keiko asked.

 

Hmm… well I guess he's sorta cute, but I'm in a relationship; I think. She said.

 

HA! So you do like Kurama. Kagome said excited. I knew it!

 

Brooke sighed. She walked out after she had put her bathing suit on. She sat down by the ledge of the water. She looked around and Yuske ran up to her and swiped her up. He ran out into the deep end and threw her. AHHHHHHH! She started giggling. She looked around, Yuske swam over to her, and they both started splashing water at each other.

 

When she had gotten out of the water she walked over to another section of the river, she took her camera with her, but she didn't realize that Kuwabara was following her. When she got over there she sat down and let her lags hang in the water. She looked at the beautiful shimmering water. She looked around if anyone was there, she didn't see anyone. So she turned back. Of course Kuwabara came up behind her and pushed her forward. AHHHHHHHHH! She went forward landing face first. Yuske and the others came over to see what the noise was. Yuske fell on the ground laughing. Brooke started at him in disgust. Brooke was shivering, this part of the river was COLD. She started yelling at Kuwabara and she ran after him pushing him down he did a face plant into some really MUDDY water. *he he he* she started laughing.

 

 

After a few more hours they all packed up and headed home. Yuske Keiko, Kagome and Kuwabara sat in the back. Kuwabara had gotten sun burned and he was as red as a cherry. Kagome was poking him in the back for the way he had acted all day. Kurama sat in the front with Brooke. Brooke was driving home because Yuske wanted to sleep the ride home.

 

Brooke started thinking about what was going to happen later when she met up with Hiei. She had bought him a locket earlier that day.

 

So what time do you plan on leaving? Kurama asked. Looking at her.

 

WTF! Okay are you born with that thingy so you can read peoples minds? Or do you have to earn that power? She asked.

 

O, I'm sorry. He said.

 

Brooke started thinking that what she said might have been a little harsh. Her insides started to twist and turn around. She kept taking glances over to Kurama. She started thinking about earlier, if maybe she did sorta have a thing for Kurama. But were still friends and nothing more. Brooke thought to herself.

 

When she got home, she pulled up into the driveway. She turned around and saw that everyone was asleep. She turned to Kurama and smiled. When she was about to get out Kurama grabbed her hand and pulled her back into the car. She looked at him confused. She thought he was about to kiss her. She looked at him awhile longer.

 

Go see him, he said.

 

She smiled at him and leaned in and kissed him on the cheek, and took off. He sat there motionless. And his attention was changed to hearing kagome.

 

“I saw that” she said smirking. He turned around to her. She likes you, you know. Kagome got out of the car. Her and Keiko carried Yuske up the stone steps. They dropped him on the porch. He jumped up startled. The girls started laughing.

 

 

Brooke ran through the dark woods. She made it to a clearing. It was the place that night Hiei had mad his promise to her. She started to smile when she thought about it. Brooke turned around and there Hiei was. Sitting in a tree staring down at her. She looked up at him and smiled. Hiei jumped down to her side. She grabbed the locket out of her back pocket. She started to put it around his neck he grabbed her arms as she did it. He looked up at her.

 

What is it? He asked.

 

A locket, she said smiling.

 

What's it for? He asked.

 

Umm… it brings good luck. Promise you'll never take it off. She said.

 

He kissed her lightly on her lips and said “I promise” Brooke walked over with Hiei. He grabbed her hand and pulled her to his lap. She now knew what was gonna happen. He moved her hair, so her neck had become visible. Hiei bit down on Brookes neck. At that moment everything she was giving up to be with him was flashing through her mind, and Kurama came to view in her head. Just then she knew she wasn't ready. She pushed herself away. She fell to the ground, She looked up at Hiei. She looked confused. He noticed tears starting to form; she tried her best to push them away, but they just kept on coming.

 

I can't do this. She said. I'm so sorry, Hiei. She got up and ran away from him as fat as she could. She felt sick and was hurting, her heart was in pain. Her neck was aching form the bite mark Hiei left. She felt herself getting dizzy as she made her way to the house. She walked in and saw Kurama staring at her. He looked at the mark on her neck. She immediately put her hand over her neck, Yuske walked in as she ran up stairs. Yuske called to her. I said I'll be down in a minute. She yelled. Yuske and the others walked into the kitchen. Kurama went upstairs after they all left.

 

 

Brooke was upstairs in the bathroom. She was crying, She looked through the drawers to find a blade, she went in the and pulled out one of them, she dug it down into her skin, and she held back her screams through the pain. She dropped it and fell to the floor. She tried to move fast and out it all away. She put her jacket on when she heard someone knocking on her door. She looked up and saw it was Kurama. She wiped the tears from her face. He bent down to her, he wiped her face with a wet cloth. He examined her neck, he looked to her and said it should go away. It doesn't look to deep. He said. Kurama wiped alcohol on the mark and put a band aid on it. She looked at him and started crying in his arms as he held her to him.

 

What happened? He asked.

 

I couldn't do it. She said. She looked up at his face. I didn't feel the way I thought I did about him. She said. I was scared. She looked up at him. I don't even think he wants to see me again. She started sobbing, Kurama looked up he smelt the sent of blood. He leaned down to her and kissed her on the forehead. She looked surprised, but for the first time in her life, she felt totally safe from harm. She knew that Kurama would protect her. He got up and told her to come down stairs when she was ready. After he left she closed the door, and took off her jacket. Her arm was covered in blood. She ran water on top of her arm, she cleaned the blood away and wrapped it up in bandages. She went downstairs and saw Yuske sitting on the stairs. She looked around and noticed everyone had left. Yuske looked up at her.

 

I was beginning to worry. He said.

 

I'm okay now. She replied.

 

Yuske looked at her neck and arm. What happened? He asked. I cut my arm with a tree branch. And I think I got bit by a bug she said. I don't know, but I'm okay now. She said.

 

Well I'm going to bed. He said. Your gifts are in the living room. He said. Going up stairs.

 

Brooke went and sat by Kurama on the couch. She later fell asleep on him. Kurama carried her up stairs and tucked her in the bed. As he turned to leave he felt her grab his arm. He turned around to her. Stay the night with me she asked.

 

He looked down to her. As if it was his birthday suddenly. And said “Yes”. Kurama climbed over Brooke and laid down next to her. He got underneath her blankets. She rested her head on his chest. Kurama handed her the box from earlier she opened it and saw the cross inside the box. She turned to him and said thank you. She put it on and kissed him on his lips, she started to smile as she kissed him. She laid back down and went to sleep listening to his heart as she laid on his chest.
