Chapter One

“So here we were walking along this path, trying to get back to town and this giant butterfly demon jumps out in front of us. Now I've seen lots of demons, and they can usually at least scare me a little, but here was this giant butterfly trying to be all menacing, it kept trying to snarl, but it sounded more like a whisper, and it was all cute and brightly colored. So what could we do but laugh at it? We could tell that it was just a minor demon, and so we weren't too worried about it eating us. This silly demon kept snarling louder and louder, and it was flapping its wings around trying to scare us. Of course, this just made us laugh even harder. Can't you just picture this in your head? A ten foot butterfly, trying to scare us, it was so pathetic. We just ignored it and walked around it, once we able to stop laughing that is, which took awhile, believe me.” Kagome finally took a breath of air after retelling her story to her friends.

She was back in her time for now and she was having brunch at the mall with several of her friends, but not the ones that she went to school with, they would never have believed her about a giant butterfly demon trying to attack her in feudal Japan. She was spending time with Keiko Yukimora, a girl Kagome's mom had found to help tutor her when she was in her time, and the girls she had meet through Keiko, Botan, who happened to be a deity and Yukina, a shy quiet ice apparition. Kagome felt perfectly comfortable telling them about her crazy adventures with demons, since every one of the girls were familiar with demons themselves.

Kagome's mom had contacted one of her father's old acquaintances, a psychic by the name of Genkai, when Kagome's grades had dropped even farther. She had wanted to find someone who at least might half way believe Kagome's crazy story, and she hadn't been disappointed when Genkai had recommended Keiko to her. Kagome and Keiko had instantly felt a connection to each other, and had become fast friends. Whenever they had time to spare in their busy schedules they would get to together, and when they could, the other girls joined them. Sometimes another girl, Shizuru Kuwabara, accompanied them but today she had to work, so it was just the three of them.

“A giant butterfly? That must have been something to see” Keiko laughed along with her friends. They could all picture a giant creature like that, and not one of them could even manage to find it the tiniest bit scary. “Oh, I think it would have been if it hadn't been trying to act scary, that just made it look absurd.” Kagome was still laughing as she remembered the way that the giant butterfly had tried to intimidate them. Her friend's little fire cat, Kirara, had even tried to chase it, since no cat could resist chasing butterflies. That had everyone laugh even harder as Kagome told them that part of the story.

“You certainly don't lead a boring life do you Kagome?” Botan asked her. Just then, the appetizer that they had ordered arrived at their table. After they had all grabbed what they wanted off the platter Kagome answered, “Nope, but I can't imagine your life is exactly boring either.” “No, how could it be, Koenma does keep me quite busy.” Botan grinned, “not that I'm complaining in the least, I would go crazy without all of my duties to keep me busy!” “I do believe that the men that we know tend to keep us all busy, wouldn't you agree?” This came from the quiet Yukina. “I know that Yusuke keeps me so busy, I hardly have time for myself when he's even in town. Between him and school, I know exactly what it means to be a busy. That's why it's so nice when we are able to get together like this. Just us girls, too bad Shizuru couldn't make it today, we'll have to tell her about the giant butterfly the next time we see her.” Keiko looked around at her friends.

She was so glad that they all got along so well, it was hard to make friends with other girls, since none of them led what you could call normal lives. “I agree completely Keiko, I just wish that we could get together more often, I mean I have Sango when I'm in the other time, but it's nice to have someone to talk to who knows what I mean when I say something about a TV show or a new band.” Kagome agreed with Keiko. This was nice. They continued catching up even after their food had arrived. Anybody watching their table would think that the four girls had been friends for years the way that they were so open and carefree with each other, and in truth, it felt like they had been.

A while later Kagome and Keiko were walking back towards Kagome's house, they were going to try to get some studying in today. “So will Inuyasha come to get you this time?” Keiko asked her friend as they rounded a corner. “Nope, he's at the house waiting, I told him he could come with me if he would play with Souta today so I could go out with you guys. He said that he would feel better if he was in the same time as me, so he'd said it wouldn't be a problem. I just hope that he doesn't bother us to much while we are studying.” Kagome glanced at Keiko, “but who knows.” “I'm looking forward to meeting him, I've heard so much about him, I feel like I know him already.” Keiko smiled; she really was excited about meeting her friend's boyfriend.

She had heard a lot about him from Kagome. “Well, I apologize now if he's rude to you, he's like that sometimes.” Kagome warned Keiko. “Oh, I'm sure he can't be as rude as Hiei, although he's not really rude all the time, just distant, but still I'm used to being with around all kinds of people. Have you ever meet Yusuke? He's not perfect in the manners department either. In fact, the only person I know that has good manners is Kurama. You'll have to meet everyone sometime, I think that you would like them, since you don't mind keeping company with demon's obviously.” Keiko reassured her friend that she could handle whatever her boyfriend had to say. They walked through the gates and up the back steps to the shrine, when the door opened before either of them could open it.

Standing in the doorway was one of the most beautiful men Keiko had ever seen in her life, and she had seen Kurama in both human and youko form. Keiko slowed down slightly, and Kagome rushed to greet the person. “Hey babe, did you miss me?” Kagome asked playfully hugging the guy in the door. “You know that I did, want to see how much?” Inuyasha pulled her close and nuzzled her neck with his nose. He was just about to lick her when Kagome pushed away from him, “not right now, I want you to meet someone. Inuyasha, this is my friend Keiko, the one who helps me with school, Keiko this is my boyfriend Inuyasha.” Kagome stood close to the hanyou and was smiling brightly as she made the introductions.

“It's a pleasure to meet you Inuyasha, I've heard many things about you.” Keiko greeted him with a smile, she could tell that they were very close. “Same to you, why do you have the scent of a demon on you, you are human.” Inuyasha was slightly puzzled, he hadn't realized that there were that many demons in this time.

“Well, I would assume that I smell like a demon for the same reason that Kagome smells like you, my boyfriend is a demon, as are several of my closest friends. In fact, we just had lunch with one, Yukina, who is an ice apparition.” Keiko smiled again, she could tell the boy was puzzled, and also intrigued. “Can we go inside or are we going to stand here all night long?” Kagome nudged Inuyasha, “you don't have to interrogate her either, it's not nice.” She scowled at him slightly. “Oh, I don't mind Kagome, I realize how proprietary demons are, and he was just making sure that I wasn't bringing danger into your home. You might receive the same line of questions if you ever the rest of my friends.” Keiko reassured her friend that it was okay.

Leaving their shoes at the door, the girls followed Inuyasha into the living room. “So is this demon of yours strong?” Inuyasha ignored the glare Kagome shot at him, and continued to question the girl who spoke so easily of her friendships with demons. “Of course, he is the strongest person that I know, and the other demons that I mentioned are also very strong.” Keiko really didn't mind answering his questions, but she could tell that Kagome was getting irritated with him. “Maybe someday you will meet him, I'm sure he'd be interesting in meeting you.” Keiko smiled again at the hanyou; there was just something about him that made her feel like she could talk about anything. “We are going to be studying in here, you are welcomed to stay down here if you want, but we really need to get started.” Kagome changed to subject.

“Where is Souta by the way?” she asked Inuyasha. “He called your mom and asked her if he could spend the night at a friend's house. He left about an hour ago.” Inuyasha answered Kagome. He sat on one of the chairs for a few minutes before he realized that they were serious about studying, since they had both pulled out textbooks and notepads.

“I'm going upstairs, nice to meet you Keiko.” Inuyasha announced and then hurried up the stairs. He didn't feel like watching TV in Souta's room, maybe he would take a nap. He pulled off the jacket to his kimono and the white undershirt he wore underneath it and laid down on Kagome's bed. He was asleep in minutes, while the girls were elbow deep in algebraic equations.

So, how's that for a first chapter? Introduction chapters seem to always be long, I take that back, all of my chapters seem to be long, must just be me, anyway, let me know what you think of this one okay? Hope you enjoyed it!
