Silence Is Golden
Guess what! Kurama's hair is red. Kuwabara's shirt is blue. I don't own Yu Yu Hakusho. So don't sue! I just own Setsuna.
*Part 1*
I scurried through the crowded hallway with the small paper in my hand that held my locker number and combination, my skirt flowing with every stride. It wasn't hard to find. Good. Something was going somewhat well for my first day at this new school. I entered my first period class just as the bell rang.
"Take your seats, class. We have a new student." The sensei motioned to me and I smiled somewhat. "I'd like you to meet Setsuna Yamamoto. Do you have anything you would like to share about yourself?"
I shook my head.
"Well, class, it seems Yamamoto san doesn't like to talk. You may take a seat anywhere you like."
I chose a seat in the far back corner. Maybe she wouldn't call on me at all.

Kurama POV
She stepped inside the classroom. Her straight, black hair falling to her waist as it shimmered with the morning light. She was a bit shorter, maybe Hiei's height. Her face was slightly pale, though she didn't look ill.
"I'd like you to meet Sestuna Yamamoto. Do you have anything you would like to share about yourself?" the sensei questioned.
She shook her head lightly, enough to make the dark locks around her face dance as a small smile played on her lips.
"Well, class, it seems Yamamoto san doesn't like to talk. You may take a seat anywhere you like."
The fact that this new girl didn't speak made her seem more childlike than others. She chose a seat in the very back. It seemed that she wanted to avoid contact.
"Oh, and Minamino san, would you please guide Yamamoto san to make sure she reaches all of her classes today?"
"Hai."

Setsuna POV
I didn't like the word 'guide'. It made me sound like a helpless child. I listened to the sensei's lecture, no matter how boring it may have been.
After what seemed like ages, the bell rang. I kept a slow pace as I stood and walked out of the classroom. Minamino was waiting for me.
"Hello." he greeted, walking beside me.
I gave a simple nod of my head to signify a hello.
"You may call me Shuichi, if you speak, that is."
I smiled and politely shook my head.
"Oh, I'm sorry."
I shook my head once more to signal that it was alright. It didn't matter that I was mute. Shuichi had a nice voice. It was a deep alto and soothing. It made me curious right then to know what my speaking voice would sound like. I shook it off and started toward next period with the redhead right next to me.
He learned the concept of asking me 'yes' or 'no' questions quite fast. That made it easier for me. Through those simple answers he managed to find out where I live, where I used to go to school, my hobbies, and a few other things. Shuichi had a mother, a stepfather, and a stepbrother who, ironicly had the same name. His mother sounded just like mine.
"Do you have any siblings?"
I nodded.
"A sister?"
I shook my head.
"A brother, then. Is he older or younger than you?"
I gave a thumbs up to signal older. Shuichi wasn't so hard to communicate with after all.

The teachers and other students were another story....
"Setsuna san, could you please tell me the answer to number five?"
I stared at sensei for a moment.
"Setsuna, I asked you a question."
I still couldn't answer. Don't tell me no one told them I was mute!
He went into lecture mode. I sensed it. "Now, Setsuna, are you not capable of answering me?"
I nodded.
"And why is that? Did you not complete the homework?"
I shook my head. By now, I was hearing snide remarks from the rest of the class.
"Then why, may I ask, is wrong?"
I made a few motions with my hands: "I am mute"
"Really? We'll just see about that. Down to the principal with you."

"So, you do understand that it is wrong not to speak when called upon."
God, I wished this asshole would shut up! He kept telling me about how wrong it was for me not to answer. What was I supposed to do?! We finally reached the office where he requested my papers. He read them over and gasped.
"I'm terribly sorry. That was my mistake. I wasn't informed."
And that was why I was homeschooled.....

Normal POV
Setsuna scurried down the halls, dodging peers as the bell rang to signal the end of the school day. She looked down on them all with a face of discust, especially those who had mocked her. They didn't know what it was like, but could she really complain? It wasn't so bad. She lacked normal human communication. So what? Shuichi? He had been the only one to speak to her without making a cruel remark all day. He was one out of how many other students? She wasn't giving this whole thing another chance. Why should she? She grabbed her schoolbag and began running down the street to get home.

Setsuna spun around in her computer chair. She inhaled the scent of the candles buring in her room. She had the top floor of her home to herself. It was the attic where no one bothered her. Leaning back in the chair, she yawned. She was still debating on whether or not to go to school tomorrow. Sighing, she fell face first into her bed and didn't bother to pull the covers up.

Well now, it's another fic by me, DarkWaterKitsune! I think this one got off to a nice start. I just don't think it'll be as long as some of my others. Then again, it might be my longest yet. You just don't know! I don't think I'll be updating for a while because I'm trying to make the chapters longer. This is just an idea I had a few nights ago.
