The Long Years
I still don't own Yu Yu Hakusho. I can't stress how sick I am of writing this disclaimer!

Setsuna sat at her desk filling out some sort of form. It was pages long and she was beginning to get a headache from it all. It was raining again like it had been for the past few days. They had returned from the Feuldal Era only a month ago. Kurama stopped by occasionally, whether it was to escape his fan club or just to say hello. Her computer screen flashed out of its screen saver when she bumped the mouse on accident. She looked at the screen and decided to talk to anyone who was logged on.

~

LuciferGirl: Hi Suna

GoldenSilence: Yeah, I guess. This are a little off the wall right now.

TourmentedOne: Why?

GoldenSilence: I'm still trying to fill out this damn application!

UltimatePeace: Still?!

GoldenSilence: Kenji's been on me about it to no end!

ForeverDreaming: Bothers are a pain.

LuciferGirl: Is he still scaring Shuichi away?

GoldenSilence: He's so pissed at Kurama for coming around all the time.

LuciferGirl: That's not fair of him.

GoldenSilence: He thinks it's all Kurama's fault that I was gone for those few days. My brother is an ass.

ForeverDreaming: How about the guy who never uses the door?

GoldenSilence: You mean Hiei? He only comes when it rains.

UltimatePeace: Doesn't he have his own place?

GoldenSilence: No. He doesn't have a place to live.

LuciferGirl: Poor guy. Is he cute?

UltimatePeace: No way! She's gonna hook up with Kurama, remember?

GoldenSilence: I'm not hooking up with anyone. I still have to go to college.

LuciferGirl: Where are you going again?

GoldenSilence: I'm *trying* to get into Harvard University.

ForeverDreaming: But that's gotta be the best school in the USA!

GoldenSilence: I'm trying. If not there than I'll probably go somewhere in Kyoto.

LuciferGirl: Cool. I live in Kyoto, you remember?

GoldenSilence: I'll have to stop if I go somewhere in there. Well, I've gotta go. Gotta finish these applications. I'll go to college somewhere damnit!

All(again cause I don't feel like writing out the names): Good luck!

GoldenSilence has left the room.

She logged off and got back to her papers. So many to fill out. Good thing her mother and Kenji were out. Suddenly, just as Setsuna had expected, there was a tap on her bedroom window.
**It's open, Hiei.**
The window opened, followed by a sloshing sound going across her floor.
She spun around at the half-Koorime. **Don't soak my floor, too! Take it off and hang it up!**
Hiei was a bit taken back. Setsuna was never this edgy.
**Gomen ne, Hiei. I'm just a little streesed right now.**
"A little?" Hiei mused, removing his cloak and throwing it over a chair to dry. He walked over to her desk and looked over her shoulder. "What's this?"
**Just a bunch of stuff I have to fill out.**
"Can you read it?"
**It's in English. I've been studying for a while now.** She stood. **I'll bring you up some dinner.**
"Hn. If you insist."
**Good, because I do. Ramen?**
"Hn."
**Ramen it is.** She walked out of the room, leaving Hiei behind on her bed.
He was only here for one reason tonight. He had been summoned by a Makai Lord named Mukuro. He had to go to the Makai. He knew Setsuna would be upset. In only a month, it had rained so many times and the baka kitsune hadn't been home. So, he had gone to Setsuna's new home after her original home had been demolished by the raven. She knew about his past and his present. She figured that out by an accident dream. And yet, she didn't seem to care at all. She was so.....nice to him. Though, he would never admit it. He had taught her to harness her thoughts into telepathy when they had gotten back from the Warring States Era. He didn't think she could hug that hard....
His thoughts were interupted by the doorbell ringing.
**Shuichi-kun, is something wrong?**
"Nothing. I was just passing by. I'm sorry."
**Don't be. Come in. Hiei's upstairs.**
"Thank you." Hiei saw that farmiliar fox walk into the room. "Good evening, Hiei."
"Don't think I'm a fool, Kurama. We both know why you're here." Hiei scowled.
"And we both know why you are here."
Hiei fell silent as before.
"You shouldn't postpone telling her. She's going to be upset enough."
"How would you know?" he snapped back.
Kurama sighed. Apparently, Hiei didn't understand. "Because you've always been the one to keep her company. She feels like you're watching over her, and it gives her a sense of security. After we returned, she needed that more than anything. Not to mention the fact that you helped her overcome what she thought she never would."
"What does that make you?"
"I'm....a friend."
"I suppose she told you all of this?"
"She did." He turned to leave. "I'll see you in the Makai, Hiei."
Hiei heard a quick good-bye from Setsuna to Kurama before she walked back in. She had her head hung a bit.
"Setsuna, let me explain."
**Hiei, I already know that you have to leave, and I know it's not your fault.**
"I'm....sorry."
**Don't be. It's not your fault.**
The two paused, neither looking at the other.
"I'll be back." Hiei said finally.
**I'll be waiting.**
Hiei disappeared and Setsuna pushed the college applications to the side of her desk.

"Setsuna, I'm proud of you." Kenji said, pulling his little sister into a bear hug.
"Kenji, please! You're going to suffocate me!" Setsuna half-shouted in desparation to get away.
He let her go smiling.
"I don't see what everyone's so happy about. Now I have to go to college!" She turned and spotted Kurama who had, surprisingly with the Makai and all, finished school. Then again, he was Shuichi, the perfect student. The Makai tournament had gotten in the way, though.
"Setsuna, I am so proud of you!" Mrs. Yamamoto cried. "It's just so wonderful. Have you decided on college yet?"
"Still shooting for Harvard?" Kenji asked.
"I'm still not sure. Maybe somewhere close so I can come home on break instead of going to another country."
Suddenly, a ringing came from Kenji's pocket. He pulled out his cell phone and answered it.
"Moshi Moshi?" He held it out to Setsuna. "Stop giving your friends my cell. It's for you."
"Gomen ne." She took it from him and answered. "Hello? Yusuke-san!....How's Keiko?.....That's great!" A long pause followed like Yusuke was explaining something. Her expression changed. "Oh, she did....No, I'm fine....Of course. I'll stop at Genkai's before I leave. Ja, Yusuke." She disconnected the call and handed the cell back to her brother. "I've made a my decision. Harvard it is."
"That fast? He must've said something important."
"No. I'll take a year break and then I'll go."
The past years of high school had been better than anyone had expected. Now, they were graduates off to college and careers. But most importantly for the Yamamotos was that Setsuna had spoken. Well, techniquely it was still telepathy. She just had to lip sync. But none of it was good enough for Setsuna. She now knew that Hiei wasn't coming back.

Okay, this is getting a bit sad, but I'm okay with that! ^-^ Anyone know why our favorite fire demon isn't coming back? Take wild guess. Ja ne!
