Chapter Two
Hiei continued to stare at the screen. Everyone else was wondering the same thing, `How does he know her?' The silence wore on and eventually Koenma gave a small cough to get every ones attention. He spoke, "Yes. Her name is Kagome, the last of the star catchers."
Kurama spoke "I thought star catchers were just a myth, or that the race died out long ago." Koenma turned to him, "This is no myth, star catchers are very real. It is true that most of there race died out though. Naraku, an evil hanyou, had destroyed the race in fear of their power. The star catchers had for seen this in their star readings, and made sure that one survived unnoticed by Naraku. But now he had found her and wishes to see her killed." Koenma explained.
"So toddler," Yusuke said "were exactly are we supposed to find her?" "I was getting to that Yusuke." Said a slightly annoyed Koenma, "She lives somewhere in Tokyo, that we are sure of, we don't know her exact where bouts, but that's were you come in. You should be able to find her by locating her immense spirit energy, though she may suppress it." Everyone nodded. Koenma then turned to Botan, "Botan open a portal back to the Ningenkai." "Yes sir!" She gave him a playful salute and opened the portal. Hiei was the first in and out of the portal and by the time Yusuke followed him out, he was gone.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hiei bound from roof top to roof top along the streets of Tokyo, searching for his old childhood friend. Although he had only known her for little more than a day, he felt as though he should keep his promise. He would find her and tell her he still remembered, even after all these years.
Hiei opened his Jagan eye and looked for her. He found a large amount of energy about two miles from his left. He went off, hoping that it was her. He softly gripped the small bottle in his cloak, as he landed in front of a small apartment shack on the outskirts of Tokyo. As he stepped forward, a dark figure loomed in front of the door. "Stay away from this place before I make you leave." The voice was smooth, feminine. "Hn." Hiei drew his blade, preparing for a fight. The figure chuckled, "You should have left."
Hiei came up behind the shadow with his speed, ready to sever its head. He was surprised, however, when it turned around just as quickly as he came and placed its hands on his face. All he saw was a bright light before he blacked out.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hiei slowly opened his eyes. He saw the blurry figure of a woman with long black hair, but couldn't make out the face; she hadn't realized he was awake yet. As his vision cleared he looked around and saw he was inside of the shack lying on a bed in a corner of the shack. There was a small table next to him with various herbs and healing utensils, across the room was a small stove and cupboard. On the next wall was a fireplace and next to that was a stack of wood to burn. He looked to the woman now, who he could see clearly. She was sitting at the end of his bed reading a book of some kind. There was no mistaking who she was.
"Kagome?" Hiei whispered. She shot of the bed and faced him confusion and fear written all over her face. "How do you know my name? Did Naraku send you?" Hiei slowly got off the bed, as he moved towards her she moved back, fingers glowing slightly preparing to attack. "Don't you remember?" Kagome raised her hands, "What do you mean? Who are you?!" Hiei stopped, `She doesn't remember, she didn't keep her promise.' Hiei gripped the bottle in his cloak once again, as if morning. She didn't remember.
"My name is Hiei, and I was not sent by Naraku. I came from the reikai to protect you and seek your aid." Kagome dropped her hands to her sides. "Oh, I sorry I didn't know, here let me get rid of that scratch on your face. I sort of went over board back outside." Kagome went to Hiei bending down slightly; she placed her hand on his cheek. This time when her hands glowed, it was a soft pink, instead of a bright white. The cut on Hiei's face disappeared, from earlier when they fought in front of the shack.
Hiei sat back down on the bed, staring at the floor. Kagome felt uneasy in the silence so she sat next to him, hoping to make some conversation. He spoke first, "Why did you bring me in your house after you knocked me out?" Kagome looked a little surprised at the question. "Well, I didn't really know who you were, so it wouldn't be fair to just leave you there, especially when there are demons surrounding this place. Both wild and sent from Naraku, also you were hurt, and I just couldn't stand seeing someone hurt." Kagome gave him a small smile, Hiei returned it slightly, and if you blinked you would have missed it.
"What did you mean by `Don't you remember'? What was I supposed to remember?" Kagome looked at him with confused eyes, silently pleading him to answer. "Nothing, I didn't mean anything. Just forget it." Hiei went back to staring at the floor. Kagome looked sad for an instant before her head shot up, she looked towards the door. "Intruders, one demon and two humans." Kagome went outside to check it out before Hiei could even protest. Hiei quickly followed Kagome outside and tried to hold back a chuckle. In a matter of minutes she had Kuwabara hanging by his toes in a tree, Yusuke's head was stuck in the dirt, and Kurama was slightly tangled in his whip. Kagome dusted off her hands, "I'm bored, want some tea?" She looked at Hiei and saw that he was trying not to laugh.
"Hiei, what's so funny?" Kuwabara looked at him from his dangling form in the tree, "Yeah shrimp, what's so funny?" Hiei couldn't hold it back anymore; he let out a soft chuckle which soon went into brief laughter. Everyone but Kagome was stunned. "I assume you went easy on me then?" He spoke as he turned to Kagome, "Well, yeah. I never want to hurt anyone unless I have to. So I just knocked you out." Yusuke finally got his head unstuck, "Hey Hiei, would you mine explaining?" Yusuke walked up to the fire demon, soon Kurama joined him. Kuwabara was still screaming in the tree. Kagome spoke first, "Maybe you should all come inside, I see you are friends of Hiei so lets get this all settled and have some tea." She led them inside, following after, but before she entered her home, she pointed a glowing finger at Kuwabara. As the hold on his toes was released he fell from the tree with an undignified plop. Kagome giggled before she joined the rest and Kuwabara crawled after, toes to week to use.
