She stood frozen. ‘It’s not supposed to be like this.... no....’ The friends she had grown to love like her own family
lie around her. The monk having a tender yet firm hold on the taijiya, who in turn hugged a small kitten like creature,
a young kitsune not far away, his eyes once full of life and joy, now clouded, dulled. All battered and bloody, tears
stains evident on their once warm faces. All gone, dead. A hanyou, also some distance away, in the same condition.
Passed away with the thought that he failed: he failed his friends. failed himself, failed her… Kagome. In his last moment
he sent her an apologetic and pained look, only to have his eyes clouded, similar to the small kitsune‘s.

Her vision became blurred with unshed tears that soon trailed quietly down her cheek. First a few, then slowly
became more frequent. But she made no sound. She stood straight but with sloped shoulders, eyes a perfect image
of despair, misery, clothes dirty and ripped, her hair matted with blood. ‘This is not real.... It can’t be.....’ Her crimson coated
locks flowed with the wind that added an extra eerie feeling to the area, a field of dead grass littered with demon corpses and
blood, surrounded by trees which were dead themselves.

Stormy blue/gray eyes soon focused on the figure in the center of this field. His eyes matching the gore surrounding him.
A satisfied and cocky smirk on his face. She looked at this man, this beast that was the cause of all this. All this pain.
How? How can somebody be this.... dark.... evil... how is this possible? HOW?! ..... why? Why all this pain? 'Why me?'
"Why...?" she whispered. His smirk widened. Suddenly he appeared in front of her. She merely continued staring at him. She
has never felt so numb. She looked into his cruel eyes.
"Why?" she asked again, more to herself. She was so confused. She could not believe. She was like a child not understanding
the meaning of death. So innocent.

He backhanded her across the cheek, sending her sprawling a few feet away. He came up to her again and kicked her,
making her crash against a tree. He kept that up, like a cat playing with it's prey before the kill. He frowned, however.
She didn't even flinch. No pain was shown except of that in her eyes. Like a rag doll being carelessly flung around. So he
decided to just end it. This was not worth his time. She had the rest of the shards.

She had no will to fight back. Why should she? Everyone she loved, is dead. She had become so remote from her family
back in her time, what was the difference. Her friends back home have long given up on her. She watched as Naraku once
again approached her, knowing what was on his mind. She should just give up. She closed her eyes. A thought occurred to
her. No, she will not give up. She will not let their deaths be in vain. He will not get the pleasure of reaching his goal. He will
not cause this pain to others, at least not without a fight.

She stood up slowly on wobbly legs. She faced him with those same pained eyes. Though he was surprised to see that
pain replaced by rage. Her body was consumed with a blue glow, that slowly turned an angry red. His eyes widened.
"Wha-?" he was hypnotized by her eyes. He really could not move. 'Impossible!' Struggling against this force was futile. Already
wounded by battle, he did not have the strength... and he had not predicted the girl to be a problem.

Kagome now wore a wicked smile. Slowly she walked up to him, still smiling. a few feet away, her smile became a grin.
He was very frustrated.... the girl had him in a situation in which he didn't even predict. Her taunting was torturing, like she
new a secret he didn't. Now directly in front of him, she stood on her toes with her hands on his chest. He was afraid.
"Go to hell, bastard." she whispered.

Naraku made a gasping/choking sound when he felt pain shoot all over him. Kagome watched with pleasure as he screamed
as an unearthly fire consumed them, struggling against her spell, trying to take her hands off of him. She only pressed
harder against his flesh, making the fire grow in size and power. She took delight as he now screamed madly. Walking away
from him, she positioned her hands in front of her body. Gathering all her power, she shot a powerful beam the color the same
furious red as the fire, also growing in size.

A blinding flash followed.

As the dust cleared after the light, there was nothing to be seen, but a crater. Everything was gone, turned to mere ash. Kagome
was alerted when she caught the sight of something. Naraku's shards. Heavy rain now began to fall. Walking towards the slight
glimmering, she finally saw the actual shards. She kneeled on the mud as she took them in her hand. 'All of this... it's because
of you, isn't it?' Kagome took her own shards from the vile she carried as a necklace. Closing her eyes as she firmly held the shards
in her hands, she concentrated her purifying energy into it. Opening her eyes she sees the complete Shikon no Tama, lying
innocently against her palm.

'This is it. This was our goal..... this is it.' She wondered what would be happening right now if her companions were still alive.
She smiled weakly as she imagined them. She could see Shippou, jumping, laughing. Miroku's relieved face when he saw no wind
tunnel in his hand, Sango by his side, Kirara on her shoulder. Inuyasha grinning like a fool. She giggled at this. She looked around
her now. Nobody here, celebrating with her. Nobody cheering.
'Is this truly a victory?' she thought to herself. Though she knew it was, inside she felt like she lost. 'I did. I did lose'.

With her tears renewed, she finally collapsed on the dense mud, the rain pounding mercilessly on her. The jewel held tightly in
her hand. She had one thought as her world faded to black

"Why?......"
