Kagome lazily traced the patterns on her desk with her index finger. It has been eight days. She had tolerated the demons she had sensed on
the first day of school. After all, one thing she learned traveling to the past was that not all demons are bad.
A ghost of a smile appeared on her face as her eyes unfocused and glazed over as memories briefly resurfaced. The haunted look soon
disappeared as quickly as it came.
At times she had felt demonic energy in the trees, following her for a while after school, the same one she had felt outside the class window.
The energy was faint, suppressed. It was obvious the demon did not want itself known. But she merely smiled and continued her way. She knew
whichever demon it was, was only curious. It hadn't shown any signs of hostility. Besides, with her continuing to mess up the concealing spell,
she wasn't surprised. However, if the demons were to attempt to harm her or somebody else, that's another story.
The young miko turned half-lidded eyes to the clock on the wall. Twelve minutes till class ends. Sighing again, she let her eyes wander around
the classroom. She eyed the texture on the walls, the old traces of chalk on the blackboard, the teacher, then back to the desk. The room was
quiet since students were left to study for the remaining time of class. The only sounds she could hear were the sounds of pencils against paper
and the soft patter of raindrops on the window.
'Man... and teachers get pissed when someone falls asleep in class...' she thought as she struggled to keep her eyelids from closing.
She decided to continue her studying, maybe that would keep her awake. She looked down at her algebra book.
*snort* Yeah right.
She settled for glaring at everything with her hands fisted into her bangs in frustration. So of course she was startled when the bell actually rung.
Now she glared suspiciously at the clock. 'I swear... the damn thing does it on purpose...' She looked around, confused. 'Why is everyone getting
up?' Then she smacked herself on the forehead. 'GOD! That was the freak’s BELL stupid! What the hell's wrong with you?!' She quickly gathered
her things and left the room.
Kagome developed an uneasy feeling, making her pause in the hallway. It was the kind of feeling that told you that you're being watched. It wasn't
like a rare thing, but she got on guard nonetheless. She turned and scanned the hallway. It was too crowded. Kagome shook her head.
"I'm being paranoid..." she muttered softly.
Sighing, she continued her was to the main entrance, joining a river of students that were headed the same direction. Once outside, everyone
went in their separate ways, either by themselves or in groups, walking quickly or running in hopes to escape the rain. Kagome stayed just behind
the doors, sheltered under the school's roof. Looking out the door, she saw the campus was almost empty with a student here or there, still
making their way home. Kagome calmly looked around. She loved the rain. She saw it as a dream in reality. Perhaps it was a tad bit depressing,
but maybe that's part of it's ethereal beauty. The dark sky, the mist the rain made when it hit the ground. She closed her eyes and slowly inhaled.
The smell of rain, the soothing lullaby of raindrops... She opened her eyes and finally stepped out, walking very slowly. Entranced. Kagome
stopped about half-way to the gate. She slowly let her head fall back and let her shoulders slope at the same time and just stood there. Again
closing her eyes, she let the rain dominate her senses, ignoring the chilling cold. After a minute, she lifted her head while smiling widely, letting
out a sigh in content. Feeling renewed, she skipped the rest of the way home like a child, quietly humming a tune under her breath, completely
missing the amused emerald-eyed face smiling at her antics

-------------------------------------------------------

Saying she felt bad was a bit of an understatement. She had a killer headache, her nose was stuffy, her throat was sore, her ears throbbed,
and her whole body felt like it would bruise at the slightest touch. Not to mention every once in a while the world around her seemed to spin.
Okay, so maybe prancing around in the rain wasn't the best idea she ever had. And maybe she should've changed out of her wet clothes as soon
as she got home. Kagome would have banged her head against the wall if it wasn't that her head felt like it would explode already. Sniffling and
hugging her sweater closer around her, she walked along now familiar path to school. She had a hell of a time convincing her mother to let her go
to school. God knows how many school days she had missed during her 'quest'. And just as she is starting to catch up in her education, she
wasn't going to let some illness slow her down again. Being the ever-understanding mother, Ms. Higurashi agreed, though reluctantly.
Rounding the corner, she faintly heard the bell signifying the start of class. Forcing her protesting body, she bolted into the large building in
search of her first class. Whimpering, she was starting to regret her decision. Oh well- she was here now, might as well get the day over with. She
skidded to a halt realizing that she had just passed the classroom. Having to run back, Kagome leaned against the door's frame trying to catch
her breath and to seize the room from spinning. Looking up, her fever-flushed face reddened further when the students giggled/chuckled.
'Duh. The door's open...they saw me run the wrong way...' The teacher raised an eyebrow at her.
"Ms. Higurashi. Please take a seat and don't be late again." Kagome dumbly nodded and hastily went to an empty seat.
"You shouldn't have spent so much time in the rain." someone stated from beside her. Kagome turned to Kurama who was still looking ahead.
"Shuichi!....you saw?" It was bit more of a statement than a question. Kurama turned to her and smiled, answering her question.
Her face that was beginning to turn to it's normal color (as normal with a fever) returned to it's previous bright red hue.
Sighing, (again) she leaned her head on the desk.
'Someone shoot me. Please.'

Kurama frowned. Kagome had fallen asleep about a few minutes through class. He noted her expression was burdened and her forehead
glistened with sweat. When he spotted the teacher looking at her, he silently asked if he should wake her. The teacher, feeling sympathetic,
shook his head and waved his hand. Time passed slowly, but surely, and now it was time for lunch. (AN: *wince* Don't hit me!!)
"Kagome. Wake up." Kurama gently shook her shoulder.
"Mm?" Kagome groggily sat up. Kurama smiled and removed a pencil that had stuck to Kagome's face when she had fallen asleep, leaving a red
pencil-shaped imprint on her left cheek.
"Wha?" the young miko yawned
"Time for lunch."
"Oh."
Kurama stayed behind, collecting his books, watching as the girl stumbled out of the room. Hurrying out of class to catch up with her, he spotted
her practically dragging herself outside. Trotting slowly after her, he scowled when he lost sight of her as a crowd of students rushed out.
Shrugging, he went out in search of his friends.

'Stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid....' Kagome chanted in her head. She really should have just stayed home. But noooo... she HAD to be
the brave little trooper, hadn't she? She looked up when she ran into two people.
"Hi. You're Kagome, right? Are you okay? Why don't you eat with us?" Kagome smiled at the two girls' concern.
"I just have a slight fever. And you won't mind?" She asked. The girls smiled.
"Of course not!" the strange blue-haired girl replied. The girls introduced themselves as they lead Kagome to their usual spot.
"My name is Boton. And that's Keiko. We will be eating here, and three friends of ours will be joining us later." Kagome nodded. Soon engaged in
a conversation, Kagome found she really liked these girls. They were so easy to get along with.
"Oi! You're that one chick!" Someone roared from behind her. Kagome's brow twitched as she looked back at some tall, orange-haired guy,
pointing at her. Deciding to amuse herself, Kagome pointed back with a fake shocked expression.
"Oi! You're that one dude!" She replied. The guy laughed and scratched the back of his head.
"Hahaha.. yeah, that's me..."
Kagome sweatdroped. (AN: That's not even a word.... -_- )
"Incredible..." she muttered with a raised eyebrow.
"*cough* Anyway, that's my boyfriend, Yusuke, and my other friends, Kuwabara and Shuichi." said Keiko, pointing to each person.
Kagome looked behind the still-laughing doofus.(now identified as Kuwabara) Standing there was a guy with slicked-back dark hair with an evident
bad-ass attitude, who greeted with a short wave and simple "Hey." On the other side indeed stood 'Shuichi' with his ever charming smile.

It was amazing how warm she felt among these people, as if they have always been her friends. Conversation was interesting. Actually, it was
mostly Boton and Keiko doing the talking with everyone else getting a comment in once in a while. Fists were occasionally flying between
Yusuke and Kuwabara while the rest continued chatting. Guess that's a normal occurrence. Kagome wondered- when was the last time she had
felt this... content? Like all was well with the world. Ha! Kagome almost laughed out loud at that one. Yes, all was good, at the moment, and it
would have been perfect if only she could actually eat without wincing at the pain it caused her throat. And today, of all days... does the sun have
to be so bright? She swore her brain is currently being toasted. Damn, freak'n orb thingy....
"Kagome?"
"Uh?" Was her intelligent reply.
"I don't think your food is that bad." joked Yusuke. Kagome realized she had been glaring at her lunch.
"Oh!" Kagome laughed, embarrassed.
"I was just thinking about something." She waved it off.
"You're unwell, aren't you?" Kurama asked, concerned, as he touched her forehead. "You have quite a fever." Kagome suddenly remembered a
similar situation were Inuyasha showed concern over her when she developed a fever a few years back. Having established some time ago that
she should not cry over memories but cherish those as precious moments, but being in a especially sensitive mood today, she could not hold
back the sob that would soon be followed by a rush of tears.
Everybody was startled by the sudden change of mood. Kurama blinked widened eyes.
"Maybe you should go to the nurse... you should be resting at home..."
"No, no... I'm sorry... I'm okay, really..." she smiled at him through teary eyes. Kagome hastily wiped off her tears. "I'm sorry..." she repeated.
"Are you sure?"
"Yeah. Just a memory..." That wasn't a lie....
"Thank you... for worrying..." Kurama smiled tenderly, looking down at her teary face. What was it about this girl that made smiling irresistible?
"Kagome..."
Everyone jumped when screaming was heard from behind.
"GIVE ME THE SHIKON NO TAMA!"
"...... shit." No. Today wasn't the best day she ever had.

On this part: "It was obvious the demon did not want itself known". Yes, IT-self. 'Cause Kagome senses a demon, but she doesn't know if the
demon in male or female.
And this:
"Being the ever-understanding mother, Ms. Higurashi agreed, though reluctantly." It is Ms, not Mrs, 'cause she's not married... right? Is it? >_<

I am very self-conscious so.... *squeaks* be nice?

I'll try not to be TOTALLY late in the next chapter....
.... review? ^_______^
