"I can't," Kagome huffed out as she pulled herself up and over the edge of the well, "believe that I went back for nothing." It was hard enough convincing Inuyasha to allow her time to go home to attend school in the first place but now to have this happen? "What are the chances of the school catching fire when I happen to be there for a change?" That the culprit who'd started the fire had been caught was reassuring but it still didn't change the fact that she was still going to be behind. Nor would Inuyasha be amused that her going home had pretty much been pointless in this instance. With a heavy sigh she sat down on the ground and rested her head against the edge of the well, "Well at least he can't be mad that I didn't come back early this time."

The sun continued to shine brightly overhead as she contemplated just where said inu hanyou was. That he hadn't come to meet her was of no great surprise since he wasn't even expecting her to return for two days. But had he been in the area most likely he would have sensed the magic of the well being used and come running. Yet as the minutes ticked passed and there was still no sign of him, Kagome resigned herself to walking towards the village alone. "Maybe in a few minutes," she decided when moving from her spot on the ground just seemed like too much trouble. Safety wasn't a concern since the group kept this area relatively free of any demons that would be considered dangerous.

That still didn't stop her from jumping slightly when a bush across the clearing rustled. But still Kagome didn't move just yet, choosing instead to clutch at the strap of her backpack in preparation to flee if needed. 'Maybe it's just a rabbit.' It was clearly in the realms of possible given the amount of forest that surrounded her. There was always an abundance of game to be found and the villagers were always having trouble with the wildlife invading their gardens. Several long moments passed and Kagome began to relax when she didn't hear anything more. A gentle breeze caressed her face as she continued to bask in the sun that illuminated the clearing and for the moment she was truly at peace. There were no demons to worry about for the moment and certainly no one to look disapprovingly at her for something she'd done or said. "If only things could always be like this," she sighed wistfully.

As if to put the crowning glory on her tranquil thoughts a powder blue butterfly emerged from the surrounding vegetation, gliding on the breeze. Kagome stared at the insect, a slight smile appearing on her face as it closed the clearing. The bushes rustled again and to her surprise a white fox emerged from the foliage, its red eyes gleaming in the sight. "A kitsune?" she asked in a low whisper, never taking her eyes off of the creature. The only kitsune's that she'd been acquainted with was Shippo and this enchanting creature was nothing like the child that traveled with their group. Still, the fox paid her no mind and continued to stalk the butterfly, its four tails waving gently in the air behind it.

Abruptly it pounced, clearly missing its intended prey which caused Kagome to giggle. Large ears flicked in her direction but no other indication was given that the creature even knew that she was there. Over and over the fox bounded towards its quarry, clearly enjoying the game it had involved itself in. Kagome knew that should the fox truly wish to kill the insect it could easily do so but instead it was showing the playful side that its kind was known for. Slowly Kagome shifted, trying to get more comfortable while not disturbing the fox from its antics. Carefully she stretched her legs out in front of her but she stopped when suddenly the kitsune froze and turned to look at her warily. "It's okay, I'm not going to hurt you," she called out softly in hopes that she sounded reassuring enough to calm the animal. It seemed to have worked, for the creature sniffed the air delicately for a minute and then resumed its search for the butterfly.

Unfortunately however the prey had escaped and Kagome watched as it heaved a sigh, its fun seemingly over. Yet its displeasure didn't last for long as it found a patch of rather thick grass that was warmed in the sun. A giggle escaped the miko seeing the fox throw itself down and begin rolling in the vegetation with abandon. Now that his soft fur was no longer in the way she could clearly see that her entertainment was a male and he was clearly enjoying himself as he tossed from side to side. After a few moments the fox stilled although he remained on his back, peering at her with red eyes through the blades of grass. Even while he laid there Kagome could see the curiosity shining in his eyes which caused her to giggle again, When the fox sighed and allowed his eyes to close she couldn't resist calling out to him, even though it was unlikely he could understand a word she said, "Wore yourself out did you?"

As if in answer to her question the fox rolled back over and regained its feet. The animal seemed to be staring at her cautiously, sniffing the breeze indecisively before he took a couple of tentative steps in her direction. Kagome tensed, waiting to see what would happen. She'd always been told that wild animals were dangerous creatures and to avoid messing with them but for some reason she felt this fox meant her no ill will. The breeze picked up, causing her skirt to toss in the wind which made the fox pause. He seemed to be anxious, flicking his ears back and forth. “It's okay, I won't hurt you,” Kagome said softly, wanting to see just what he would do.

The softly spoken words seemed to calm the creature and he took a few more hesitant steps forward. Kagome held her breath as the fox reached her feet and his wet nose came up to sniff at her outstretched legs. For the longest moment neither of them moved but after a few moments another step was taken and then another until he was even with her knees. Cautiously Kagome extended her hand, hoping that the gesture wouldn't be seen as threatening and get her bitten, “See, it's okay.”

When he ignored her hand, Kagome slowly turned it over and allowed it to lower until it brushed against his fur. “Wow, you're so soft,” Kagome breathed out quietly. She'd expected his fur to be rather course but it wasn't like anything she'd experienced. Before she could stop herself Kagome allowed her fingers to sink deeper into the silky mass but if anything the fox seemed to be enjoying the gentle caress. To her surprise he moved even closer, as if encouraging her to continue petting him while he acquainted himself with her smell.

Kagome wasn't quite sure what to think of the situation she'd found herself in but she wasn't about to break the spell that had somehow been woven between her and the fox. To her amazement after a few moments the creature laid down beside her and closed his eyes, basking in the attention he was receiving. Kagome couldn't help but giggle at the look of contentment that had crossed his face, “You're just like my cat aren't you?” At the indignant look she received the miko laughed, “Perish the thought that I compare you to an average feline huh?”

The fox snorted softly before butting his head beneath her hand, demanding she resume the attention she'd been bestowing upon him. “Alright, alright. I get the picture,” Kagome said with amusement. Really he was like Buyo in this respect, even if he didn't like the comparison. To her delight the creature laid his head in her lap, seemingly content with the situation that he'd found himself in. Kagome was of a like mind as well and for the briefest of moments allowed her eyes to close. Yet they didn't remain that way for long because the fox shifted, doing something completely unexpected. “Hey! You can't do that,” Kagome admonished, pushing the kitsune's head out from beneath her skirt. Yet that didn't seem to deter him any for he merely avoided her hands and resumed his sniffing of her nether regions. Again Kagome pushed his head away but this time with more force, “Stop that, it's not polite.”

Hearing herself say such things nearly had her smacking herself, “What am I saying. You probably don't understand a word I'm saying do you?” While there were a lot of legends built up around kitsune, she'd come to learn that not all of it was true. Shippo for example had spoken many times of his parents and not once had they come across as the sexual deviants that legend had painted their kind to be. She'd also learned that while all of them possessed intelligence, only the strongest races were able to take a somewhat humanoid form. Once they had, they preferred to stay in it as a show of power.

Usually if they had to revert back it was because they were injured and needed to recuperate, something this kitsune obviously wasn't. It only solidified in the miko's mind that while yes, this was a demon he obviously wasn't very powerful nor intelligent. More than likely he ran off of instinct alone and the sense of smell was a canines most powerful attribute it possessed. 'How many times have I seen regular dogs smelling each other in that particular area as a way of greeting? He probably doesn't see anything wrong with it.' As she gazed down into the kitsune's face she sighed, he looked mildly upset like he didn't know what he'd been scolded for. But that didn't stop his nose from inching closer to his goal. With a sigh Kagome averted her eyes, he wasn't going to be happy until he'd familiarized himself with her scent and it wasn't like there was anyone watching them.

After a moment's hesitation the fox buried his head beneath her skirt again and Kagome could feel the soft feel of his breath against her bare skin. Still she didn't move, wanting him to get his fill of smelling her so they didn't have to repeat this embarrassing process should they ever meet again. But when she felt his cold nose against her flesh Kagome tensed. When he used his muzzle to try and shove her panties to the side Kagome had decided enough was enough. Gently she placed her hands around his shoulders and pushed backwards, effectively removing him from her body. “As interesting as that was, let's not do that again,” she said with no small amount of mortification, “I should be going anyway.”

Abruptly she pushed herself to her feet and only once she was standing did she realize just how tall the kitsune was. His shoulder easily reached mid thigh which was surprising given that Kouga's wolves were a comparable height. But there was no denying that he was indeed a fox, given the multiple tails trailing out behind him. With a groan she shouldered her backpack and gave one final look to her new friend, “You may want to be careful in these woods,” she warned, “I don't know how Inuyasha would react to learning that another kitsune was prowling the forest and I'd hate to see you hurt. So stay safe alright?”

As Kagome walked off, Youko watched her go. He was well aware of the inu hanyou and how well he kept the forest clear of the more dangerous demons. Or at least tried to anyway, he hadn't sensed his presence as of yet and even if he had, Youko had no worries. More than once he'd crossed paths with the group and each time he grew more and more intrigued by the miko. She was for lack of a better term, interesting. The power she radiated was enough to gain his attention, the added to the fact that she periodically disappeared down the well only fueled his curiosity.

Yet this was the first time he'd approached her and now that he'd gotten a chance to feel her it wasn't going to be the last. He had no intentions of leaving her alone until he'd satisfied his desire to learn more. Of course, he could have done so with never coming into physical contact with her but she had also sparked desire deep within him. Approaching her in his normal form would have never worked, she'd have been suspicious and likely to have attacked him. To do such a thing would have forced his hand and he wouldn't have thought twice about killing her. But utilizing this form had avoided such unpleasantness and had gotten him far closer than he would have imagined possible on a first encounter. Now he couldn't wait to see what their next meeting would bring.

~In The Village~

Kagome dropped the backpack in a corner of the hut with a sigh, causing Shippo to look at her in surprise. “Where are the others Shippo?” As she looked around she noticed that there wasn't any trace of the rest of their group. Quite likely they were off attending to other things since she was supposed to be gone. By the looks of things only the kitsune had remained to hold down the fort.

“They went to check out a report of a demon in the next village over. The elder who came requesting help said that it might have a jewel shard but Inuyasha didn't believe it,” Shippo replied quickly while dropping the crayon he'd been holding in his hand.

“Why not?” Kagome wasn't sure that she liked the others going out and looking for shards without her. How was Inuyasha to know just where the jewel shard was without her there to see it? Although she didn't relish the idea of chasing after them to help she'd do it without question if necessary.

Shrugging his shoulders, Shippo moved to sit closer to her, “Something about the damage it was causing didn't sounds like a demon with the shard. So far it hasn't killed anyone, just frightened the villagers. Inuyasha wanted to make sure though so they went to go take care of the problem. Are you through with your tests?” The miko returning early wasn't exactly a common occurrence and was a bit of a cause for concern. Especially when one considered how hard she had to fight in order to leave in the first place.

The question was enough to make her sigh even though she'd known it was coming, “No, some idiot believed it would be funny to start a fire in the chemistry lab while the Professor was out. The sprinkler system managed to contain most of it but a lot of smoke spilled out into the hallways. The fire department evacuated the building and classes have been shut down for the next three days while they make sure there's no lingering fumes to worry about.” At this point Kagome had to wonder if she'd lost her mind by even attempting college courses while they were still on the quest.

“So does this mean you're not going back today?” Shippo didn't want to get his hopes up too high, usually if she did return she didn't stay for long. Sometimes he believed that she was going just to get a moments peace from the driving pace that Inuyasha set but he wasn't going to begrudge her that small pleasure.

“I could but no, not this time. There wouldn't be any point to it and if Inuyasha's going to go looking for jewel shards anyway than I might as well be here,” Kagome replied heavily. As much as she wanted to just go home and relax for a couple of days she knew she couldn't justify it. It was one thing if she had to be in her own time for school but quite another if she just wanted to be lazy. Besides, she wanted to ask Shippo about the new friend she'd made earlier and it was best to do so when they didn't have an audience. Taking a deep break she prepared herself for what she was about to do, “Shippo, how much did your parents teach you about other kinds of kitsune?”

That certainly hadn't been a question that he'd been expecting out of the miko but Shippo was quick to answer it anyway, ”A lot Kagome. After all it's up to us to keep the tales of the kitsune alive. Humans are too quick to forget and then blow things out of proportion. Why do you ask?” As he spoke his tail twitched eagerly, anxious to answer whatever questions she might have.

Kagome knew thats he was going to have to tread carefully here with her questioning. If she came out and told Shippo that she'd been in contact with another kitsune there was a good chance that he'd tell Inuyasha. That would start an entirely new set of problems that she wished to avoid. It was best to lie and avoid mentioning that particular fox entirely, even if it wasn't likely she'd ever see him again. Cheerfully she waved her hand as if the question weren't of any great importance, “Oh I just saw an old painting today before I returned and I was curious. I wasn't sure if there were really white kitsune or if they only existed in the old legends.”

“White kitsune?” Shippo blinked slowly before shaking his head, “We don't define our types by colors, rather we're classified by the elements. Color is a secondary feature, given by whichever element we are born into alignment with. For a kitsune to have a white pelt it would either be a Celestial kitsune or a Spirit Kitsune. You generally can't distinguish between the two from a picture though.” That she was asking about that particular color wasn't exactly surprising, humans did tend to go for the more unusual looking of their breed.

“So how can you tell the difference?” Kagome was honestly curious as to if there were any distinguishing characteristics. Living at a shrine had given her a basic amount of knowledge but as she'd been growing up she hadn't been especially interested. As such a lot of what information that had been at her disposal had been passed over in favor of other things.

“It's in the feel of their energy and the number of tails most of the time. Celestial kitsune are far more abundant and are in direct service to the Goddess Inari. Spirit kitsune are different matters entirely. Most of the ones you might see are limited in power and are content with causing trouble. It's only once they reach a certain number of tails that they're able to attain a human form. When that happens they acquire demonic characteristics and it's best to stay away from them. They truly enjoy causing pain and suffering to any who would stand in their way,“ Shippo said with a shudder. His father had warned him about crossing paths with one of their kind, it didn't matter that they shared a common bond. If a spirit kitsune saw you as an obstacle to be eliminated you were as good as dead.

“Well this one, the on in the picture, only had four tails,” Kagome said while musing over what Shippo had said, “So what would happen if I ran into one of those spirit kitsune? Would it attack me for no reason?”

“It would depend on what it wanted from you I guess. I can't see a spirit kitsune wanting anything from you though so most likely yes. Since you're a miko you'd be a threat to its existence and a four tail isn't exactly weak,” Shippo said uneasily. The look on her face had changed from merely interested to intensely curious, something that was out of place with a simple painting. Shifting slightly he fixed her with what he hoped was a no nonsense stare, “Are you sure this is over a painting? You haven't run into one have you?”

A horrified look crossed her face for the briefest of moments. 'Oh no, he's figured it out!' Kagome's mind raced frantically while she shook her head, “No, nothing like that at all Shippo. You just know that different types of demons interest me. Seeing that picture made me realize how strange it was that we haven't met any other kitsune you know?” Based on what Shippo had said she was willing to bet her new friend was a celestial kitsune, she hadn't felt any malice coming from him. Only an intense curiosity which she couldn't fault him for, she'd been curious about him as well.

“Well that's not unusual,” Shippo replied, satisfied for the moment with her explanation. Seeing the questioning look she was now giving him he continued on, “As you know we're notoriously secretive creatures and humans don't exactly like us much. Any other kitsune that might be in the area would go out of their way to avoid us.” If nothing else with how abrasive Inuyasha's temper tended to be any kitsune in their right mind would go to extreme lengths to stay out of his way. 'Sometimes I wish I could do that.' But no, leaving the group was completely out of the question and as such he'd tolerate the hanyou's mood swings as best as he could.

“I guess that's true,” Kagome replied with a sigh, “do you miss not being able to see other kitsune?” It was a valid question, she'd seen just how much he still mourned his father and she knew that foxes tended to be social animals. At least within their own family groups anyway.

For several long moments Shippo didn't answer her. Was he unhappy not being around his own kind? “Occasionally I guess,” he said quietly. He really didn't like to think about what he'd lost when his family had been taken from him. Living with humans was so very different from living with a clan but he couldn't say that he regretted the time that he'd spent with Kagome and the others. Seeing the sadness lurking in her eyes had Shippo attempting to cheer her up, “It's not so bad though, most kitsune spend time as solitary beings when they branch out anyway. I just started my adventure early.”

Kagome knew what he was attempting and gave him a gentle smile, she truly appreciated the gesture. “Who knows Shippo,” she started while giving him the smallest of smiles, “maybe one of these days we'll run across another kitsune who doesn't mind that you're traveling with so many humans.” After all, her friend hadn't seemed to care about what she was so maybe there was hope yet.

“Maybe,” Shippo replied noncommittally, “as long as Inuyasha didn't drive it off as soon as he smelled it.” The hanyou took his duties of guarding his pack very seriously and since most kitsune were troublemakers, Shippo knew that it was unlikely he would allow one to remain in close proximity. For now it wasn't something he was going to think about too hard, not when they had so many other things to occupy their attention. Covertly he began eying the backpack that the miko had brought with her. It was getting closer to dinner time but as of yet Kaede hadn't returned from her duties as the village miko to begin the stew.

The statement that Shippo had thrown out about Inuyasha's sense of smell had Kagome nearly panicking. Most likely she was saturated in the kitsune's scent and it was a miracle that the youngster next to her hadn't noticed it yet. The hanyou however wouldn't miss it unless she got rid of it before he returned. The way Shippo was looking at her pack was perfect, within contained an ideal distraction while she remedied the problem. “The way you're examining my pack tells me your hungry Shippo. Haven't you eaten today?”

“Well yes but,” Shippo turned wide, innocent eyes on the girl, “I'm a growing boy you know. Breakfast was so long ago.” To add to the pitiful effect he clutched his stomach, knowing that the girl would never be able to resist.

Kagome very nearly rolled her eyes at his theatrics but she refrained and instead snagged the strap to her pack, pulling it over. The zipper was pulled open quickly, revealing the contents contained within. A veritable feast awaited, or at least by this time periods standards. To her it equaled mass amounts of junk food but it kept Inuyasha from complaining too loudly. Kagome stilled with her hand on a bag of potato chips and looked at the kitsune staring anxiously, “Tell you what Shippo. I need to take a bath but when I get back how about I make you some ramen. In the meantime you can have these.”

Gratefully he took the proffered bag but still he looked at her skeptically. Bathing was usually reserved for later in the evening when she had someone to go with her. “How about I go with you instead, just to stand guard and all.”

“No, that's alright Shippo. I need to get the smell of the fumes from school off of me. You know as soon as Inuyasha comes in if I stink he's going to complain and tell me to take a bath anyway,” Kagome said in hopes that the kitsune wouldn't come over and sniff her himself, just to see if she really did smell bad.

For a moment Shippo thought of doing just that but thought better of it at the last moment, choosing instead to wrinkle his nose. He'd been around her more than once when she'd returned from chemistry class, whatever that was and she was right, the place reeked. There were other things he'd much rather be smelling, such as the chips in the bag he'd just opened. Even now the salty scent wafted up to his nose, making his mouth water. “Okay Kagome, I'll wait here and if they come back I'll tell them you're at the spring,” Shippo agreed before shoving a chip into his mouth.

“Thanks Shippo, I'll be back soon,” Kagome said as she snatched up a change of clothing out of the bag along with her bathing supplies. With luck she could be finished with her bath long before Inuyasha returned and even have the ramen started. Most likely since she'd returned early the hanyou would want to head out at daybreak and resume the hunt for the jewel shards.

~A week later~

“I'm so cold,” Kagome moaned pitifully as she continued trudging through the heavy drops of rain that continued to fall. The swift breeze that cut through the trees certainly hadn't helped matters either and now she was regretting her choice of clothing. To make matters worse she couldn't even ask Inuyasha to carry her to shelter, the last battle they'd been involved in had cracked several of his ribs. While he'd be healed in a week or so that did nothing to help her now. Even Kirara was virtually useless, having taken an energy blast squarely in the side in an attempt to protect her and Shippo.

As much as Inuyasha didn't hear the complaints, he couldn't say that he blamed the miko for it. For hours now they'd been slogging through the hellish weather and if he'd had any say in it they'd have bunked down before the storm broke. Unfortunately these storms tended to be unpredictable and they'd been caught without any shelter in sight. Now it was looking as if there was a good chance it would rain itself out before they found a cave to rest in. “Keh, I told you to bring warmer clothes,” Inuyasha groused beneath his breath, knowing that if he said it too loudly she might very well sit him into the nearest puddle of water.

“Inuyasha,” Miroku called the hanyou's name with a bland tone and picked at the heavy material that stuck to his skin, “perhaps it would be best if you did not provoke her at this time. After all it was Kagome who predicted the rain and suggested we remain at the last village.” At the time he'd been in full agreement with the girl but Inuyasha tended to be stubborn and had swore that he couldn't scent rain on the breeze. As such they'd continued on and when the storm broke it was far too late to turn back.

The last thing Inuyasha wanted to hear was I told you so from either of them but by sheer force of will he refrained from snapping at them. Instead he shoved his cold hands further up into the arms of his haori and snorted, “If I listened to every single prediction she made we'd never get anything done. Her predictions are usually as valid as the 'I sense an ominous cloud' bullshit you hand to every nitwit we come across. Suck it up Monk, there should be a cave not too far ahead.”

When Miroku merely pursed his lips, Kagome glared at the back of the hanyou's head, “Need I remind you that Miroku is the one keeping you fed half the time Inuyasha?” It went without saying that the rest of the time he was attempting to live off of the items she brought from home. Actual hunting or fishing wasn't exactly a common occurrence anymore and for once she'd like to see Inuyasha acting grateful for the help that they contributed. 'Sometimes he acts like he's the only one who does anything in our group.'

Inuyasha stepped over a fallen log, not bothering to look back at the girl, “Keh, I can take care of myself. I've been doing it all this time haven't I?” While being able to eat at an inn was nice on occasion it wasn't absolutely necessary. After all it wasn't him that was bitching half the time about sleeping on the ground. The only reason he agreed to staying when they ran across a prospering village was because he didn't want to have to listen to the complaining that was sure to follow if he put his foot down. What they needed to do was quit acting like they did all the work.

“Is that why both you and Kirara are hurt and we're all walking in the rain?” Shippo wasn't above getting his jabs in at the hanyou at this point. He was positively miserable in this weather and it was going to take him forever to get the tangles out of his tail. The idea of a cave being found didn't brighten his mood like it should either, after all he was still going to be sitting there in soaked clothing until he managed to dry out by the fire.

“Why you little,” Inuyasha growled at the kitsune perched on Miroku's shoulder. It was tempting to stalk over there and snatch the hairball up but he knew before he managed to lay a hand on him, Kagome would sit his ass. Instead he settled on a glare directed towards the kitsune which caused the miko to scowl in his general direction, “Well maybe if you hadn't gotten in the way then Kirara wouldn't have been hurt would she? And you,” Inuyasha pointed a finger at Kagome who looked about ready to lose her temper, “Just how many times are you going to lose your bow?”

Kagome saw red at the question and stopped where she stood. The only consolation was that the rain was starting to let up. Angrily she glared at him but he matched her look for look. “Are you saying that the demon cutting my bow in half was my fault?” Her yell echoed across the clearing, making the hanyou's ears flatten against his head but Kagome was far from finished, “You jerk! I had a perfect shot at him three times but you kept getting in the way! Then when he plows through you and destroys my bow you're going to blame me?”

“So you have an excuse this time,” Inuyasha yelled right back at her, “What about all the other times. Hell, half the time you can't even remember the damned thing and then it's Inuyasha save me!” The horrified looks that the others were throwing at him had Inuyasha fairly certain he'd went overboard in imitating her. A sliver of guilt made itself known, he hadn't meant to start a fight but he was tired, wet and sore. Surely that had to account for something didn't it?

“Oh really?” Kagome stalked up to him, giving him the evil eye before stalking past him, “Save this! Sit!” The satisfied thud that quickly followed was only slightly comforting but she didn't follow through with even more subjugations. After all he was still injured and while this wouldn't kill him it would certainly get the point across.

“Stupid,” Shippo muttered as he and Miroku stepped past the fallen hanyou. A low groan came the prone form but none of them stopped to ask if he was alright. Most likely he'd be up in a matter of moments and pissed as all hell but he'd keep his mouth shut for now.

“Meow!”

Sango looked down at the tiny fire cat in her arms. Although she still looked rather battered her eyes were alert and trained on the trail ahead. “What is it Kirara?” Sango tried to peer through the shadows that concealed the wall of the cliff that they were following. As it was, she was more than a little anxious to get out of her wet clothes and the interruption that had just happened wasn't what she considered amusing. It just meant that much more time she had to stand there and be uncomfortable while they argued.

“It's a cave,” Shippo said excitedly while hopping off of Miroku's shoulder. The harsh words spoken only minutes before was now forgotten as he hurried ahead, dodging puddles as he went. There was no question in his mind that the others would follow, at least the intelligent ones would. If Inuyasha wanted to sit outside and sulk then that was his business.

Miroku hurried after the kitsune with the two women trailing quickly after him. He wasn't about to get his hopes up too high, there was a good chance that this cave wouldn't even be suitable for their needs. The other possibility was that it could be already occupied, in which case they might have to attempt to drive the owner out. “Be careful Shippo, we don't yet know what lurks within,” he called out to the child and as expected, Shippo stopped in his headlong rush and allowed them to catch up.

Carefully Sango handed Kirara over to Kagome and brandished her weapon in preparation of whatever they might find. Cautiously she stepped into the interior and once her eyes adjusted to the dim light she relaxed. The cave was only one chamber, deep enough to provide shelter but shallow enough that they didn't have to worry about some strange animal lurking within the shadows. “It's safe, come inside,” she called out, knowing the others would be grateful for the chance to rest.

As usual Inuyasha was the last one to enter and did his own inspection of the cave. There was the scent that a kitsune had used it not too long ago but the demon was long gone, it had probably run the moment it sensed them approaching. This cave would do for now, if nothing else it would provide shelter until they were certain the storms had passed. “It'll do,” he proclaimed gruffly and set about setting up a hearth where they could start a fire. Already the others were moving swiftly, preparing things so they could bunk down for a while. Kagome had already rid herself of the heavy backpack and both Sango and Miroku had left the safety of the cave to try and find some dry firewood.

The residual guilt he'd been feeling earlier returned when he saw the girl removing the prepackaged food that they'd be eating for the evening. Really there were times he didn't give her enough credit and sadly this was one of them. She looked positively miserable in her wet clothes and even now he could see the shivering she was doing in response to the drastic temperature change, “Leave that for now and go put something dry on. The food can wait until you get back.”

Kagome stared at him in surprise for several moments but she wasn't about to argue with him. Nor question his rapid change in moods. Instead she hurried over to her backpack again and began rummaging through it for some dry clothes and a towel. “I'll be back soon,” she said through chattering teeth and hurried out the entrance. In the distance she could see the direction that the others had gone in their search for firewood. Knowing that if she followed them Miroku would attempt to catch a glimpse of her disrobing, she headed in the opposite direction. The tree line was a couple hundred yards away but she crossed the distance quickly. Once she was concealed by the foliage she pulled the waterlogged shirt over her head and dropped it to the ground.

A flash of white caused her to pause and for a moment she was about to yell, thinking that Inuyasha had followed her for some reason. Yet when the kitsune she'd met before materialized only a short distance away she relaxed, “Oh it's just you. What are you doing out all this way?” After their first meeting she'd caught occasional glimpses of him but he never approached. It was probably for the best though, Inuyasha was always close by and it wouldn't do for him to discover her companion. The fox seemed to stare at her in amusement, his tails gently waving as she regarded him curiously.

“You know, if I didn't know better I'd say you were a dog and not a fox,” Kagome said with humor, “I didn't know kitsune liked to follow humans around.” That amused stare never wavered but she didn't get an answer, not that she really expected one. A breeze gusted by, causing her to remember just why she was out here in the first place. Kagome placed both hands on the waistband of her skirt and prepared to shove the wet material down when she remembered that her audience was quite male, “Now turn around you, I don't want you peeking.”

Kagome couldn't help but roll her eyes when the fox laid on his side and regarded her as if it was beneath him to do such a thing. 'Most likely it is but I'm not going to freeze to death while waiting for him to do it.' Abruptly she shoved the skirt down, taking the panties with them. As she reached up to unclasp the front of her bra, the kitsune regained her attention by lifting his head with his ears perked forward. “What is it?” Quickly she glanced around, fearing that Miroku might have headed in her direction but she could find nothing out of the ordinary.

'I'm just being silly!' She thought with a sigh and finished what she started. The sooner she toweled off and redressed, the sooner she would be warm again. The bra was tossed to the ground along with the other wet clothing and she bent over to retrieve the towel. Her eyes locked with the kitsune's and her mouth went dry. 'Why is he staring at me like that?' Sometime while she'd finished undressing he'd gotten to his feet and now he was stalking towards her. The first instinct she felt was to run but strangely enough she couldn't bring herself to move. 'What's wrong with me?'

With each step he took it became harder and harder for her to think, leaving her little choice but to see just what it was that he wanted. When he finally reached her the towel fell from her nerveless fingers, forgotten. She was lost in the intensity of his eyes and the spell that he was weaving around her. Warm breath ghosted across the sensitive skin of her neck as he inhaled deeply before dragging his tongue along her jawline. Kagome remained paralyzed as he continued his examination and before long her surroundings seemed to melt away leaving just the two of them together.

Youko took a step back for the briefest of moments to admire his work. This miko was indeed a strong one and she hadn't completely succumbed to the spell he attempted to weave. But she'd given in enough and that was exactly what he wanted, before she left his presence he would at the very least know what she tasted like. Carefully he circled around her, brushing his body against the backs of her thighs. A visible tremble went through her body although he could smell that it wasn't from revulsion. In this hyper sensitive state every touch he granted her would be arousing and by the time he was finished she wouldn't care what form he was in. Only the fact that her companions were so close stopped him from transforming and taking her. Provided she pleased him well this time he would have to give it serious thought for the future.

His nose teased the sensitive skin of her buttocks, causing her to jump slightly. The small change in position was enough to expose her core to him though and he eagerly took advantage of it. Quickly his tongue dragged along her folds, forcing them open and allowing him a taste of her. The tiniest of moans escaped her lips as it brushed her clit and inwardly he smiled. This was going to be entirely too easy. 'On your knees.' His mind voice was coaxing, careful not to jar her from the seduction spell woven around her. Without hesitation she complied, exposing her delicious backside to his view.

The smell of her innocence was entirely too tempting and in his mind the dog was a fool for not having taken advantage of it. There was no way he was going to be found guilty of such a crime however and he set to work getting her ready to receive him. Now that her knees were spread wide there was no hiding her treasures from his view and his tongue eagerly lapped at her pussy. Soft pants escaped her lips as he dragged his tongue along that little button of flesh that had been neglected for entirely too long. Over and over he worked at it, pushing her body beyond what it had experienced in the past. With a cry she came, her essence dripping from her slit and coating he tongue. Vigorously he forced it into her body, seeking out every last drop. The taste was exquisite and he was finding she was well worth the effort he had put into pursuing her.

Kagome hung her head as she panted, unsure of what to think of the situation she'd found herself in. Her center throbbed with need, aching for something she'd never experienced. Still the kitsune's hot tongue worked at her, causing her overwhelmed body to tremble. In her heart she knew that what he was doing was wrong but each time she tried to reason away what was happening the fog pulled her under again, leaving her only aware enough to feel. That fire was back, building deep inside her and she knew that it wouldn't be long before she hit that peak a second time. Abruptly the tongue left, causing her to growl in frustration. She stopped when there was an answering growl, this one deep and feral and within moments she could feel the silky fur covering his chest brushing against her backside. Hot breath ghosted along her lower back and she only had a moment to prepare before he mounted her, his weight resting upon her body.

It was easy to feel how she tensed beneath him in preparation for what was to come but Youko refused to turn back now. His hips jerked forward, seeking to sheath himself in her body. The tip of his cock brushed across those slick folds, causing her to moan which each touch. His little vixen wanted it, there was no denying it. Even now she was attempting to shift beneath him, encouraging him to take her hard and he saw no reason to deny her. With one hard thrust he buried himself deep inside her body, her cry of surprise filling the air. Had he been in his other form he might have paused, just to give her a breather but now he was too hot, too needy to even consider such a thing. Repeatedly his hips thrust forward, driving his shaft deeper and deeper into her body.

Kagome was sure that she was being split in to when he drove deep inside her but she knew that he wasn't going to stop. His nails dug almost painfully into her sides as he gripped her waist with his front legs and his harsh panting sounded loud with his head near her ear. The force he was fucking her with had her giving soft cries with each thrust, his body meeting hers almost violently. It was then that she felt it, his shaft swelling with each passing moment. It pressed against a sensitive spot deep inside of her which had that fire peaking again. Over and over he brushed against it, his cock filling her completely.

Unable to hold on any longer she came, clenching hard around that knot and pulling a growl from deep in his chest. The sensation was too much and her arms gave out from under her, causing the kitsune to snarl and scratch at her shoulders. A harsh nip was given and Kagome knew that it was clearly a reprimand. Quickly she pushed herself back up, even though her arms trembled with the strain. If she'd thought he was taking her harshly before it was nothing compared to how he was abusing her body now. The growls were near constant as he worked himself deeper into her body, making sure that she knew just who she belonged to at that point in time. The stretching sensation was bordering on painful but she knew that he wouldn't stop until he was finished.

Feeling her clenching so deliciously around him had Youko wishing that he could prolong the experience but he knew that she'd taken all that he could give. With a heavy breath his hips slowed, pressing deeply into her a final time to make certain his cock was lodged deep inside her. Thin streams of semen continued to fill her as he came, filling her womb with his essence. Carefully he moved off of her, setting his front feet on the ground once again and giving her a second warning nip when she attempted to pull away from him. Whether she liked it or not she wasn't going anywhere until he was spent and truth be told he rather liked the feel of her pussy hugging him so tightly.

Kagome made certain that she didn't move, not wanting to risk his displeasure a third time. Instead she closed her eyes, enjoying the pulsing sensation that came with each spurt he gave her. 'Play with yourself.' The mental command had Kagome's eyes snapping open but she was helpless to disobey. Bracing herself on one hand she reached beneath her body, allowing her fingers to find her clit. “So good,” she murmured when they reached there goal and she began rubbing the tiny bundle of nerves quickly. The kitsune's cum leaked from her filled hole, coating her fingers and adding to the sensations she was inflicting upon herself. It didn't take long for her to skate along that razors edge of ecstasy and she could tell that he knew how close she was as well. With his limited movement he began to thrust again, slowly adding to her pleasure while she strove for release. Within moments it crashed down over her, her walls clamping down hard around the cock buried inside her. A loud cry escaped her lips, one almost certain to reach the others but she was beyond caring as she rubbed at her clit with vigor, prolonging the sensations. Only once they had ended did Kagome allow her hand to drop with a pleased sigh. Now she was sated and more than ready to relax, at least as much as their positioning allowed.

The vague sounds of voices could be heard calling for the girl but Youko wasn't concerned. His spell was flawless and any who ventured into the immediate area would fall under his spell, seeing only what he wanted them to see. Should the foolish dog arrive before he was ready to part with the miko it would be simple enough to deter his mind. However is he didn't have to deal with the inconvenience then he wouldn't go looking for it either. Instead he'd rather concentrate on the way her muscles quivered around him every so often. 'Yes, just like that.'

It had been far too long since he had taken a virgin and while he could easily leave the girl to her own devices after this, she could just as well provide another form of amusement. Surely the hanyou would realize that she was not so innocent anymore once he came within scenting distance of her. It would cause no end of pain to the man knowing that something had been stolen from him so easily. Youko snorted softly, nor would it be difficult to take her from him again and again if he so choose. Now that she'd succumbed to his spell once she'd always be vulnerable to his charms. How vexing it would be to the dog to know that she went to him of her own volition. Perhaps she would eagerly seek him out. That thought was a particularly appealing one in itself.

The voices were coming closer now and all too soon they would be upon them. Youko could feel the swelling was going down as time passed but he didn't want their time together to end just yet, not until just the right moment. Roughly he flexed his hips, forcing his cock deeper inside of her and reflexively her walls tightened around him once more. Again his thoughts turned inward, the mental pain that the hanyou would go through would be delightful to feed upon. But by the same token, how deep would the miko's pain run once the full force of what she'd done hit her. The fact that he'd had to coerce her with magic held no baring on the situation and indeed he felt no remorse for what he'd done. Mutual pleasure had been shared and he'd fed well off of the energy she'd given him. Shame would be foremost in her thoughts no doubt, but there would be a lingering desire within and that was something she could never destroy. Such was the existence of those touched by a kitsune's powers.

A branch cracked nearby and Youko knew that it was time. Casually he looked over his shoulder to give a vulpine grin to their visitors. As expected the hanyou was there, as was the slayer and the monk. No doubt they had heard her cries and believed that she had somehow gotten into trouble. As the dog charged him Youko's eyes narrowed, intensifying the spell surrounding them. Easily he and the woman fell under his control, only the monk had the power to hope to resist yet after a few moments even he succumbed. Licking his lips, Youko pulled out of the miko, his spent cock hanging low beneath his belly. The swelling hadn't completely subsided yet and for that he was glad. Now it was time to give them a true taste of the power he held over their friend. 'Pleasure me with your tongue. Taste our combined essences and know who you belong to.'

Easily Kagome rolled into a sitting position, never realizing that the others were there and watching. Had she noticed them she would have seen the horrified looks the wore as she moved forward, gently grasping his shaft in her hand. 'I need...' That pulsing ache was back, deep within her and eagerly she pushed her free hand between her legs. As her fingers worked she brought her lips to the pointed tip of his member, brushing it slowly against the soft petals. Tentatively she licked her lips, savoring the salty fluid before she ran her tongue over the kitsune's heated flesh. A low grown escaped the creature when she took him within her moist cavern, cleaning him of the juices that coated his cock. It was hard taking it all in but still she tried, encouraged when he pressed his hips forward and forced more into her mouth. While her hand worked the base she could feel the knot growing again and the first spurt of cum hitting the back of her throat took her by surprise. Quickly she pulled away, only to have the next stream splash across her face.

As he watched her, Youko decided he rather liked her cum soaked visage and as such didn't reprimand her for no longer using her mouth. Instead he pumped into her hand, allowing his seed to splash across her lips and chin. The thin fluid dripped down onto her chest, covering her breasts and trickling down her stomach. Feverishly the miko's hand worked between her thighs and several moments later she cried out, climaxing again with her companions watching in horror. Knowing that he had to end this soon he removed himself from her grasp. 'Lay on your back.'

Kagome quickly obeyed, hoping that he would once again bring her to that pinnacle of pleasure. Her knees spread apart instinctively even as he lowered his massive head to her core. The feel of his fur tangling between her fingers was all that was keeping her grounded as the kitsune cleaned her. Over and over again his tongue forced its way inside her tight passage, only to retreat for a moment and then return. Yet when he pulled away the final time she cried out with the loss, reaching for him in the hopes that he would return.

With a final glance at their audience, Youko stood and watched as the young miko pulled herself to her knees. 'I will see you again young one.' The thought was almost a gentle caress against her mind before he broke the connection and ghosted away from the clearing. He knew that within moments the spell would dissipate and the hanyou would be out for his blood, provided of course he could tear himself away from Kagome's side.

Suddenly Inuyasha found himself able to move again but he hesitated in approaching Kagome. The forlorn look in her eyes made him pause for the briefest of moments, considering what he'd just witnessed. Had she realized what she was even doing? The sound of Sango running towards the girl reached his ears and gained the miko's attention as well. Deep within those blue eyes lurked longing and desire but yet there was a great deal of confusion. “Kagome,” he called out quietly, unsure if she even knew he was there.

Hearing her name being called had Kagome coming back to herself slowly and for a moment she didn't say anything. The remnants of the spell quickly cleared from her mind as they stared at each other in silence. With her senses coming back to her it wasn't long before she realized that her companions were staring at her naked body, some wearing expressions of concern although she could see a tinge of disgust there as well. Frantically grabbed for her discarded clothing that lay nearby but they were just out of reach, meaning she would have to move. “What are you doing out here?” Desperately she tried to keep from panicking underneath the intensity of their stares. Why did they have to come now of all times? Mortification flooded through her body when she realized what they had to have seen. 'Oh God, anything but that! I might have been able hide this but now?' Now there was no way she could hide her shame from them and there were sure to be questions.

The sharpness of her tone had Inuyasha bristling, “I was coming to check on you dammit! What the fuck were you thinking?” Why wouldn't he have come? For fucks sake he thought she might injured and dying out here when he heard her and now she was snapping at him? Shrugging his haori off he tossed it at her so she could at least have the decency to cover herself. The material hit her square in the chest but he was beyond caring about how she might take that.

As she slipped into the haori he has so thoughtfully given her, she glared at him furiously, “What was I thinking?” Kagome's chest heaved as she considered just how many ways she could kill the man in front of her, “I came out here to change you jerk! What about you? You came and decided that you should enjoy the show?” She certainly hadn't counted on being pounced on by a kitsune and if she had she damned sure wouldn't have come out here alone. While her body still thrummed with the pleasure she'd experienced with him, her mind was protesting the very idea and the way Inuyasha was condemning her only made matters worse.

“What the hell is that supposed to mean?” Inuyasha clenched his fists at his side as he stared at her incredulously. Did she really think that he'd come here just to watch her fuck someone else, in their animal form no less? If it hadn't been for that damned spell he would have cut the damned demon in two, not stood there helpless. “I come to save you and now you don't even fucking act grateful! Or are your pissed about the fact that I bothered to show up? Come to think about you did look like you were enjoying yourself a bit much,” he snarled down at her, furious that she would hurl accusations at him. Well two could play at that game and by the look on her face he'd just scored a major hit.

“Thats enough,” Sango yelled at the hanyou, her brown eyes smoldering with fury. In an instant she was by Kagome's side and helping the girl to her feet while Miroku did his best to avert his eyes. Even he knew in times like this there was a line that shouldn't be crossed and Inuyasha had done just that. When he continued to stare at her as if he didn't understand just why he was the one being yelled at she decided to pound it through his thick head, “How insensitive can you be Inuyasha, you know it was a kitsune!” It went without saying that the demon had used a spell on her, they'd all felt it the moment they'd walked into the clearing. Even though Kagome was a strong priestess, it didn't mean she was immune to the affects. As such she damned sure couldn't be held responsible for her actions.

“So? She should have known not to go so far from the cave. It's like she'd knew he'd be out here or something,” Inuyasha said, pausing when he noticed the way Kagome looked away. The guilty look on her face said it all, causing his ears to flatten. “You did, didn't you? When did you meet him Kagome? How long has this been going on?”

“Shut up! I didn't know he was going to be here,” Kagome said, her eyes brimming with tears. How dare he think she'd come out here just to go sneaking around his back like that. When he continued to look at her skeptically her temper completely snapped, “Sit! I can't believe you think of me like that!” The hanyou plummeted face first into the ground but it did nothing to sooth he temper. So what if she'd met the kitsune before, she hadn't thought something like this would happen! 'This is what I get for worrying something might happen to him. What am I going to do?'

Sango took note of the way Kagome was staring at her discarded clothing and sighed. No doubt she wanted nothing more than to get dressed and try to forget that this had ever happened. If nothing else she'd try to help her out as best as she could. Gently she took the girl by the arm, “Kagome, would you like to take a bath?”

“Yeah that'd be a grand idea except there's not a spring anywhere nearby,” Inuyasha groused as he pulled himself up off of the ground for the second time that day. It was a pity, even from this distance he could smell the stench of that damned kitsune all over Kagome and it was pissing him off. Yet he didn't dare tell her that she reeked because he knew that she was likely to sit his ass to hell and back if he even so much as mentioned it. A quick glance to the sky showed that the clouds were beginning to dissipate, destroying any hopes that it would rain again.

Unfortunately Sango knew that if Inuyasha said there wasn't any place to bath nearby then it had to be true. He wouldn't want to even be in the same area as Kagome as long as she was covered in the kitsune's scent. However there was no reason why should couldn't minimize the smell to a certain extent. “Miroku,” she called to the monk, getting his attention, “Take Inuyasha back to the cave and bring back those bottles of water in Kagome's backpack.”

“Of course Sango,” Miroku replied quietly, more than ready to be able to leave the volatile situation he'd found himself in. Most likely Kagome would need some time to compose herself before she was ready to face Inuyasha again. There was no telling just what this would mean for her in the long run but he wasn't going to judge her for what had happened. Now if only the hanyou would do the same. “Come on Inuyasha, lets give them some time along,” he said, his tone not allowing for any further arguments.

Once the boys were out of sight Sango turned to Kagome, “Are you okay? Some of their spells can be pretty powerful.” While a kitsune using their abilities on a human wasn't exactly uncommon, them using such tactics on a priestess was nearly unheard of. She wasn't even sure what sort of side effects it might possibly have on the girl. When Kagome sighed she resigned herself to waiting until the girl collected herself, she knew that she'd want to talk about what had happened. If only to explain her side of things.

Kagome allowed herself to be led over to a nearby tree and after a moments hesitation, sank down to the ground. The grass was wet but for now she ignored it, there were far more important things to worry about than a vague discomfort. “I'm fine I guess,” Kagome replied miserably. Slowly she turned to look at the woman at her side, hoping that she would have the answers, “Why did he pick me of all people? He could have done that before and he didn't, so why now? I don't understand.”

The question stunned Sango for a moment and she couldn't help but stare at the miko looking at her so anxiously, “Before? What do you mean Kagome?” The possibility that the kitsune had come across Kagome's path previously put an entirely new perspective on the situation. A random meeting was one thing since kitsune tended to be impulsive but this spoke of planning. Why would this kitsune have gone through all the trouble just to seduce Kagome?

“He was waiting for me, at the well when I came back early the one day,” Kagome said quietly. Looking back on things she realized that she should have told the others about him being there. Her thoughts on him being a benevolent celestial kitsune were now dashed, no kind spirit would inflict such emotional pain on a person. Although he could have killed her and hadn't, she couldn't help but wonder if the state he'd left her in was worse. Seeing the questioning look that Sango was giving her she continued, “I thought he was harmless. At first he ignored me but after a bit he came up. I didn't think much of it since he didn't hurt me but just in case I asked Shippo what kind of kitsune it was.”

“Wait, Shippo knew about this?” Sango wasn't sure what to think anymore. Surely the kit would know that any kitsune taking an interest in the miko was likely to be a bad thing. The sound of approaching footsteps alerted her to the fact that they were no longer alone although she shouldn't have been surprised to see that it was the demon in question. Miroku had likely sent him with the water just so Kagome wouldn't be forced to deal with the embarrassment of them watching her bathe.

“You lied to me Kagome,” Shippo said, his expression one of hurt, “You said you saw him in a painting. Don't you trust me?” If he had known he could have warned her, if he had known he could have told the others to look out for her. Even though he was young Shippo wasn't stupid, he could smell the strange demon's scent all over her. It was the same scent that his mother wore after she'd spent time alone with his father and it wasn't hard to put together just what had happened.

If anyone truly had the right to be upset with her, Kagome knew that it was Shippo. She had indeed lied to him and had thought little of it at the time. She should have known that he'd eventually find out and would be hurt about it. Her fingers tightened in the soft material that covered her body and she realized she couldn't bring herself to look at him. “I'm sorry,” she whispered miserably, “I didn't know that something like this would happen. I thought, maybe he wouldn't hurt me and that everything would be okay.” But it wouldn't be and she knew it. Sooner or later Inuyasha was going to go hunting the kitsune and he'd likely kill it. Regardless of what had happened she didn't think the creature should die, the only scars she'd walk away from this with were the emotional ones.

“What's done is done Kagome,” Sango said while giving Shippo a firm look. Although he had a right to be angry it wouldn't help the situation at the moment. Wordlessly she took the bottled water from him and grabbed the forgotten towel off the ground, “Take these, it may not be the best bath in the world but it'll work until we can find a hot spring.” Only after the miko took the items did Sango pick Shippo up and carry him a short distance away. “We'll be right over here while you get cleaned up,” she called back over her shoulder. They were well within hearing distance, just far enough away to give Kagome some privacy while she tended to herself.

“Sango?” Shippo said quietly, looking up into the demon slayers face. Even though she was a hunter by trade there was much she didn't know about her prey. It would be up to him to stress the steps that must be taken to ensure Kagome's safety. Once he was certain he had her full attention, he pushed on, “There's a good chance that he might come back for her.”

“What? Why?” Sango asked in alarm. In so far as she knew most kitsune were only in it for one thing, the sexual gratification that came with a feed. To her knowledge if they left their partner alive there was a good chance that they had been pleased but that wasn't enough to warrant a return appearance. Uneasily she looked back over her shoulder to see that Kagome was scrubbing her face clean.

“She is a miko,” he replied uneasily, as if that should explain it all. For a kitsune to take an interest in a priestess was virtually unheard of and he couldn't help but think the demon had an ulterior motive. One that went beyond the satisfaction that came from taking a partner. As it were he still had no idea which type of kitsune had come to call and that put them all at a disadvantage. “He might have been one blessed by Inari. They mingle among humans to seek those who would be worthy of her attention as well,” Shippo said, staring hard at her in hopes that she would understand.

“You mean?” Sango's eyes widened considerably when he nodded, “My God Inuyasha is going to flip. Is there any way to stop it from happening?” With their quest still unfinished there was absolutely no way they could afford to lose one of the group and as soon as she even mentioned the possibility, the hanyou would be out for blood.

“The first time prepares her for the changes,” Shippo said uneasily, he really didn't like speaking of such things but in this instance it was necessary. ”If he's truly blessed he will come to her again and soon. Probably within a week or so to ensure that his chance is not lost.” Of course he could be wrong and this was a spirit kitsune. In that case there was still the possibility that he would return to her but it was highly unlikely. One of their kind didn't usually go out of their way to seek human companionship.

The tremor in Kagome's voice was unmistakable, “Changes?” When they both turned to look at her with guarded expressions the water bottle fell from her nerveless fingers. There was only one sort of 'blessing' she could think of that would warrant a return visit of that nature. “You can't be serious,” she stammered and cast her eyes about wildly, looking for any sign of the kitsune. “This can't be happening! I'm not on the pill, what if it only takes once?” Kagome was bordering on hysteria now as Sango hurried over towards her. Abruptly she laughed, causing the two of them to stare at her as if she'd lost her mind. “What am I saying? I can't get pregnant. He's a fox! See, it's a genetic impossibility!”

“Kagome,” Sango said uncertainly as she laid a hand on Kagome's shoulder, hoping the girl hadn't lost it completely, “It is possible, you haven't forgotten that Inuyasha has dog ears. Have you?” Just because the kitsune had been in that particular form when he had taken her meant absolutely nothing at all. He was still a demon and his genetic make up was still the same. If Inuyasha was the product of a dog demon and a human mating then it could happen between a kitsune and a miko. Of course this fox would never get a second chance, they would all be on guard to keep such an occurrence from happening again.

“Oh my God,” Kagome stared at her incredulously for several moments before collapsing on the ground again, “I'm going to have puppies?” The situation was just too much for her to bear and she was nearing her breaking point. Angrily she snatched her clothes up and began redressing, uncaring of the two watching, “No way in hell. I refuse. He can find someone else to be his breeding bitch or vixen, whatever.” She wasn't even going to dignify the possibility with a second thought and so help her if the fox thought he was going to come near her again he was in for a nasty surprise. Inuyasha wouldn't get the chance to kill him, she'd do it herself!

~Two Weeks Later~

Despite Inuyasha's best efforts to find the kitsune there hadn't been any trace left of him and eventually he'd given up the search. As the days passed they'd kept a wary eye out for him and Kagome had made sure to stay close to the group. Yet when there was no further sign of them she gradually allowed herself to relax. Things were still tense between her and Inuyasha but at least they were no longer baiting each other quite as badly as they were. The incident had left her wary however and she was beginning to think that perhaps it was a good idea to return home. At least there she'd be able to schedule and appointment with the doctor to take precautions against any unforeseen accidents. There was no telling when she might run across another kitsune and she dreaded what might come of it.

Of course mentioning that was the reason she wanted to go home was completely out of the question. Even now she could just picture the look on Inuyasha's face if she mentioned she was worried about getting pregnant by some random demon. Hell, she couldn't even say for certain that she wasn't pregnant now, she still had almost a week to go until she started her period. The timing though was perfect, all she needed to do was get to the damned doctor. 'Maybe the shot would be better, I hate taking pills and I don't want to have to explain to the others what they are anyway.'

It was only the fact that the Gods seemed to be smiling down on her now that they were even on their way back to Kaede's village. Another couple of hours and they would be close enough to the well that she could go home and relax for a day or two. Unfortunately her classes awaited her on the other side but they couldn't be helped. She knew that she'd have to bear them as best as she could and hope that she managed to get some sort of work done.

“You look anxious about something Lady Kagome,” Miroku said quietly as he walked beside her. Occasionally she glanced over to Inuyasha but it was easy to see that she was agitated. “Are you still afraid that he will return for you?” The subject was still a touchy one but it was best to speak of your feelings instead of bottling them up inside. Inuyasha was certainly no help in the matter since he was still upset with her for not telling them about the fox in the first place.

“No, nothing like that,” Kagome hastened to reassure him. If the kitsune hadn't come back yet she doubted that he would. But that still didn't stop her from fretting over the deep rift that had developed between her and Inuyasha. Uncomfortably she shifted the pack over her other shoulder while she walked. Perhaps some time back home was just what they needed, time apart would give them both a chance to calm down and look at things rationally.

“Even if he did he's not getting the fucking chance. Kagome isn't going anywhere without one of us,” Inuyasha stated as if she had no other choice in the matter. He might have been lax about where she wandered off to alone before but it wasn't going to happen again. Just because the one demon had its fill of her didn't mean that there weren't others just waiting in line to get a taste of her.

“I don't need a babysitting if that's what you're implying,” Kagome said dryly. The extreme that Inuyasha was carrying things to while touching also annoyed her beyond reason. Hell, she couldn't even venture off to find a bush when she needed the bathroom without him wanting to either follow her or send Sango with her. Not that either one of them would have done her a damned bit of good if the kitsune had come back. After all they'd been rendered helpless and forced to watch the last time hadn't they?

“Sure you don't,” Inuyasha scoffed at her proclamation while looking over his shoulder, “I guess you've forgotten what happened to you last time. You couldn't take care of yourself then and you damned sure couldn't do it now either.” The fool girl just had no sense when it came to knowing who to trust and if she couldn't exercise good judgment then he was going to have to be the one to do it for her. The look of irritation that crossed the miko's face had him flattening his ears, the girl was just far too touchy. Why couldn't she just let him protect her like he was supposed to?

“Oh so I guess your version of taking care of me is standing there watching while he.... while he,” Kagome trailed off, her face burning with embarrassment as the memory came back to her. How typical for Inuyasha to forget he'd been right there as the fox was ramming his member down her throat, encouraging her to take it like a good little girl. That was the most humiliating thing of all when it came right down too it. She'd come to accept that the kitsune had taken her virginity and she had enjoyed it. What she couldn't forget is the things he made her do while the others had been watching.

“That's not what I meant and you know it,” Inuyasha yelled at her. How dare she throw that back in his face! “I can't be held responsible for your stupidity Kagome! If you'd have opened your damned mouth and told us about the bastard in the first place it would have never have happened. It's your fault that we couldn't stop it from happening, so don't try to throw the blame on me,” Inuyasha continued on, ignoring the horrified looks being thrown his way. Even the birds seemed to have fallen silent as his voice rang through the air.

“So that's how it is I guess,” Kagome said icily. She was having a hard enough time dealing with the guilt of her actions but now he just had to throw his opinion in on top of it. Cold fury flowed through her veins as she stared at the man who was glaring at her. “I should have figured. I'm always the stupid one, going out of my way to do things that piss you off. I guess this is just one more instance of how I've screwed things up for you, isn't it? Well guess what Inuyasha? I don't need you to tell me just how badly things have turned out. I am at least smart enough to figure that much out,” Kagome's tone was like ice as she unleashed her anger upon the hanyou. Only once she was finished did she turn to Sango, “I need to go home. At least if I'm there he won't have to concern himself with me making yet another mistake. Can I borrow Kirara?”

“Are you sure that you want to go alone Kagome?” Sango looked at her uncertainly, while allowing the fire cat to jump out of her arms. She had no doubts in her mind that Kirara would keep her safe during the trip but that didn't mean that Kagome would necessarily feel at ease alone, no matter what she'd told Inuyasha. Still, she could understand the miko's need to get away. Honestly she was surprised that Kagome hadn't sat the hanyou to the ends of the Earth yet.

“I'll be fine,” she huffed but it was without malice. She knew that Sango was merely looking out for her but she was far nicer about the way she went about it than Inuyasha was. It was just something that she was going to have to face sooner or later, the hanyou had no tact. Kagome tried to give the slayer a reassuring smile, “Kirara will make sure that the kitsune isn't anywhere nearby and the only time I'd be on the ground is when I'm at the well anyway. What could go wrong?”

“Plenty, you're not going,” Inuyasha decided to put his foot down before she could get any further determined on this stupid idea. She might be anxious to get home for whatever reason but that didn't mean she could tell her brain to take a vacation and stop thinking. Stubbornly he crossed his arms as they began locking gazes in a silent clash of wills.

“Wanna bet?” Kagome said, stomping her foot in irritation. Where the hell he thought he got off ordering her around like that was beyond her. Deliberately she readjusted the backpack before turning to Shippo, “I'll see you in a few days. Take good care of everyone while I'm gone.” Sensing their impending departure Kirara changed into her larger form and moved closer so Kagome could climb on her back.

“I said no,” Inuyasha didn't get any further before the subjugation necklace was activated, plunging him face first into the dirt. The pain of the impact was hardly felt over the raw anger he felt about her not heeding his wishes. “Get back here,” he yelled as he tried to stand against the force of the spell. It wasn't much of a surprise though when his order was ignored and all he could see was the fire cat growing smaller in the distance. Even if he was to take off at a run now Kagome would still reach the well before he did and be gone before he had a chance to stop her.

'Of all the nerve.' Kagome was still fuming even after the others became lost in the distance. Somehow she was surprised to see that Inuyasha hadn't chosen to follow her but she should have expected it. Gently she gripped at Kirara's pale tan fur to make sure that she maintained her balance. 'He's probably cursing me even now. I bet he's saying it'd serve me right if something happened.' It wasn't exactly a fair thing to think but then again she'd never expected him to outright say that this was all her fault either. Now she couldn't wait to get home, if nothing else so she could shove all thoughts of what had happened from her mind.

The worst thing she'd have to worry about for a few days would be what examinations she had to make up and if her family noticed that there was something wrong with her. That in itself could pose some problems but Kagome knew that if absolutely necessarily she could come up with an explanation. Telling her mother exactly what had happened was out of the question, she'd suffered enough humility. 'Not to mention it might give her a coronary.' No, giving her mother a heart attack with this sort of news wasn't something that she needed to do.

In the distance she could see the well and the clearing surrounded it looked empty which was a relief. Still it was better to be safe than sorry, “You don't sense anything do you Kirara?” When the fire cat roared and continued on her course she took that as a sign that it was all clear, or at least as clear as they could be sure of. Finally the fire cat touched her feet to the ground and Kagome slid off. “Thanks for the ride Kirara. Can you watch over Shippo for me while I'm gone? Inuyasha is sure to be in a bad mood and you know how he likes to take it out on him,” she said, giving the fire cat a final pat of gratitude.

Kirara merely nodded her head and watched as Kagome walked towards the well. The backpack was pitched over the side first and landed with a hollow thump at the bottom. When the miko sat on the edge of the well she turned and launched herself in the air. Her job was done and within moments Kagome would be safely on the other side in her own time. It was time for her to return to her mistress and watch over Shippo as the miko had requested.

For several long moments Kagome sat on the edge of the well and watched her friend fly off into the distance. A gentle breeze caressed her cheek as the sun shown down upon her, causing her hair to waved gently. A flicker of movement caused her to startle, nearly causing her to fall backwards into the well but she caught herself at the last moment. To her relief though it wasn't a kitsune but yet another butterfly. “I need to calm down,” she breathed out as she got to her feet. The insect was rather pretty she decided with its soft shades of red and pink and she was surprised when it flitted towards her. Carefully she knelt down in the grass when it came closer although she made no move to touch it. It was funny how one little bug had been the start of her more recent problems. She should have known that anything attempting to smash such a beautiful insect wasn't a gentle creature as she'd believed the kitsune to be.

Abruptly she stiffened, feeling the brush of silky fur against her arm. 'Thinking about me little one?' The deep voice penetrating her mind was unwanted and her fists clenched as she prepared to move away from him. “Get away from me, haven't you done enough?”

'I have done nothing to harm you. There is no need for you to play the victim, not when there are more pleasurable roles you could be playing right now.' Youko replied easily, his voice soothing her despite its intensity. Languidly he laid down behind her, his body wrapping around hers easily like he was some overgrown pillow. It had taken a while but he'd known that she'd return to this place eventually and then he would have her a second time. Now that she'd succumbed to his spell once she'd give herself over easily the second time, remembering the pleasures that he'd given her the first time.

“How can you say such a thing?” She whispered to him, trying to hold onto the anger that was rapidly evaporating from her. The tingle in her body was back in full force and she was trying desperately to ignore it. Her hormones it would seem were in full agreement, there were more pleasurable things they could be doing right now. “Stop it, you're cruel for using your magic on someone who can't resist,” Kagome said, attempting to protest what she knew that he was doing. The flare of ki surrounded her and abruptly the soft pelt she'd been reclining on had disappeared, only to be replaced with silk and hard muscles. A tremble raced through her body when an elegant clawed hand ghosted along her arm and warm lips brushed the side of her neck.

A smile crossed Youko's lips as he felt her will faltering, it wouldn't be long now. “Cruel am I? For giving you pleasure that you'd never known before? Even now your scent beckons me, begging me to take you back to that plane of euphoria. You cannot deny that you long for me nor do I see a reason for me to deny myself the pleasure of what your scent tells me to do,” Youko whispered against the sensitive skin of her neck. The girl's heavy breathing tantalized him as he continued to work his seduction and when she tilted her head to the side he knew that she was his.

Kagome turned weakly against him and found herself staring into amber eyes filled with desire. Her mouth opened but her voice failed her as his hand tangled into her hair, tilting her head back so he could take possession of her mouth. Slowly her eyes closed as his tongue explored her own and dimly she felt his free hand sliding along the inside of her thigh, pushing her skirt up to expose the panties she wore. As he laid her back on the soft grass she gave herself over to the spell completely. It was pointless to attempt fighting it any longer and even while her body pulsed with the pleasure he was giving her, she couldn't help but loath herself for being so weak.
