“Senshi, If you don't shut up, I swear I'll find a way to extract your soul and murder you slowly and painfully,” I threatened in a calm voice, giving Kagome a glare aimed at her other half.

“She'll get like that every once in a while,” Kagome sighed.

~I AM right here, you know!!!~ Senshi said in an irritated tone. ~And I'm serious!!!~

^Senshi...^

~What?! You CAN'T tell me you never wondered!!!~

^Souta can still find out about the video game thing, you know,^

~Hmph!!! Fine. But it still doesn't change the fact that BOTH of you have wondered if Sesshomaru wears makeup!!!~ Kagome gritted her teeth and I sighed in frustration, confident that I'd never be able to look Sesshomaru in the eye again.

The barrier had been complete a few days ago, and after a little rest to allow the weary Kagome to regain her strength, She, Shippo, Kirara and I were all off to the well, and the new era that awaited us.

Sesshomaru promised to send us an escort to the Mienaikai, where he'd already established his rule. Enma was comfortably back in the renewed Reikai, setting up rule in the Makai as well. We heard rumors he was probably going to leave it for his son, a 200-year-old deity, to rule.

I shook my head. Though I did not understand the reasoning behind it, I was in no position to object. The only ones with power to do that now where Lady Kagome and Lord Sesshomaru.

I giggled slightly to myself as I thought of the many new elaborate titles Kagome had been given, much to her discomfort.

In complete seriousness, she was now officially High Lady Kagome Higurashi, Last Miko of The Mortal Realm, Guardian of the Shikon no Tama, Vanquisher of the Dark Hanyou, Guiding Spirit of Time, Immortal Queen of the Mienaikai, Sister of the Wolves, Dogs, Nekos, Kitsunes and Yogensha, Pure One of the Mortals and Creator of the Great Barriers.

I think that's all of them...

“What's so funny?” Kagome asked suspiciously.

“Nothing!” I said brightly. “So, are you going to tell your family?” Kagome wrinkled her nose, then sighed.

“I guess...”

~HEY!!!! What's that supposed to mean?!?!?! I happen to make an excellent member of any family!!!~

^You're really so eager to let mama know she's been lied to for the past 17 years?^

~...Err...~

^That's what I thought.^

|I'm sure they'll understand, Kagome,| I said reassuringly, |That's what families do, after all.| I thought of Kohaku as I said that. I knew he was not truly responsible for those he killed under Naraku's command, but I knew he'd believe he was. Plus he'd have to deal with his new demonic powers, which I was only just gaining control over.

“What's you family like, Kagome?” Shippo asked, determined to expel the tense silence. Kagome smiled at him in thanks.

“Well, Souta's a great kid. You should get along with him very easily. Mama's really kind and understanding. I can tell her almost anything. Jii-chan's nice, but a little eccentric. Just watch out for odufas when you're around him.”

“Odufas?!?!” Shippo asked, startled.

“Don't worry, they can't purify anything,” Kagome quickly reassured him. “But they're a pain to get out of your hair,” Then Kagome was silent for a while. “Are you two sure you want to go through with this? You could get a lot of training in five hundred years, you know,”

“Maybe, but it would be too lonely without someone else around,” I replied. Miroku had stayed in the Ningenkai to oversee things there, and set everything up for the future that was to come, and Inuyasha had vanished while Kagome was recuperating.

We suspected he had made good on his promise to Kikyou, but found no evidence. Still, as hard as we tried, our suspicions reached Kagome's ears, and she had gone into a state of depression it that still hadn't completely lifted, despite her cheerful facade.

Though I had gotten used to the Western Lord in my time at his palace, I was anything but comfortable around him, and though he promised Kagome and I a residence, I wasn't about to take it up if she wasn't there to ease my loneliness. Besides, a lot could happen in five hundred years, not to mention I'd probably go insane waiting...

“Yeah!!!” Shippo said, clutching Kagome's kimono. (Sesshomaru forced her into one, saying that such `unseemly apparel' would not be worn in his home.) “Besides, I don't wanna lose another Mama!!!” Kagome smiled at him.

~I should be able to get everyone through with my powers, sine the well is made primarily of stone,~ Senshi said with confidence only the fiery mountain kitsune could possess. ~I'll simply enhance the spell for a few minutes so that it will let you two through. It will probably completely deplete the spell afterwards, but that's probably for the best.~ I nodded thoughtfully.

“Yes... probably,” Who knew what havoc a youkai from this era could cause in a world made specifically by humans?

“It's the Reikai's responsibility,” Kagome said absently. I blinked.

“What?”

“It's the Reikai's responsibility to control and maintain all youki in the Ningenkai. It's their job to send the Reikai Tantei in whenever there's a disturbance in the power distribution.”

“Reikai Tantei?” I asked, curiously.

“Specially trained teams that exorcise youkai, mostly spiritually enabled humans that got too deep in Reikai politics. Sort of like the tajiya.” Kagome explained, “Some times you get a youkai that commits a crime and is forced to work with them, but it's fairly rare, and they're killed quickly since they're often viewed as traitors,”

“I see...” So even in Kagome's time youkai found ways to target humans? “Are there any youkai on the current Reikai Tantei?” Kagome frowned slightly at that question.

“Well to be honest, I can't say for certain. I usually only go to the Reikai if it's drastic nowadays, and never before I fell into this era, so all I've heard are rumors. I remember hearing there were about two or three on the team this time. Depends on who you ask...”

“What do you know for certain?” Shippo asked.

“Just that the main Reikai Tantei is a boy around my age (Well, my body's age at any rate) named Yusuke Urameshi. He's got a human alias, but a lot of third-rate youkai are claiming he's a taiyoukai by blood, Raiden's heir, even.” I rose an eyebrow at that.

For him to have a human alias would mean he had at least a little human blood in him, and the thought of a youkai who was rumored to be even harsher towards humans than Sesshomaru actually mating with a human was pretty hard to fathom. Still, the impossible has happened before...

“The rest I've heard are just rumors. It's for sure that there's at least one human in the group, and two youkai are rumored to help them, but there isn't much known about them. The human is considered the weakest of the Tantei, and apparently, the youkai are in such habits of killing, only faint rumors that are next to impossible of someone in my position to verify can even make it to me. All I know about them is that one's a plant master and the other frightens youkai too much to talk about. I did hear one rumor that he has mastered a Dragon of the Darkness Flame,” I felt a chill go down my spine at that particular thought.

“So, you don't know what kind of youkai they are?”

“Nope. The plant master is described as having a completely human appearance, and the other one has shown no signs of any specific youkai breeds,”

“Sound like you've really been keeping your ears open.” I said absently as I watched the well approach.

“If the Reikai found out about me, those would be the people they'd send. Truth be told, though, I'm kind of disappointed I couldn't fight them. From the sounds of it, they're very powerful.” I smiled at that. That was Senshi's influence shining through. I'd come to distinct which behaviors where completely Kagome, which were Senshi and which had come simply from spending so much time together.

Both were stubborn and proud, refusing to bow to any men, but Senshi's pride was way more extreme than Kagome's. Senshi refused to apologize, strongly believing that only the weak or `goody-goodies' were ever sorry about the past. Truth be told, she found even receiving apologies annoying.

Also, both needed to have people around them. Kagome and Senshi both hated being alone or ignored, and though Senshi was clingier, Kagome tended to get more depressed in those situations, being such a social person.

Another thing they had in common was their love of life, fun and children. Kagome was far more innocent about her counterpart's, but Senshi still adored playing with Shippo on lazy afternoons.

That was one thing that had surprised me the more I came to know both sides of my sister. Even after spending her entire life with a kitsune inside her mind, a breed notorious for dark and dirty thoughts, Kagome is still the purest person I know.

At first, I decided that maybe it was Kagome's own stubborn will that had kept her soul chaste, but the more I spoke with Senshi, the more I suspected the kitsune herself played a large hand in Kagome's everlasting integrity.

The last thing that I had found to tie the two together was their love and loyalty for one another. They fought like hell, and insulted each other all the time, and Kagome could often be caught complaining about her other side's constant presence, but I had a strong feeling that even if they were given the chance to separate, neither would want to. And even if they did, they would still be a constant presence in the other's life.

“Alright, that should do it,” I blinked back to the present at Kagome's confirmation, watching in interest as she removed her hands from the well, my new powers allowing me to see a strong orange glow which now mixed with the well's original blue aura.

“Don't you have to turn into Senshi to use her powers?” I asked curiously.

“Not unless It's something super major. Since we share a body, Senshi and I have the ability to channel each other's powers, though I can't use kitsune powers as strongly as she can and she can't use miko powers as strongly as I can.” I nodded

“I see…”

“Well, I guess it's now or never,” Shippo said, eyeing the glowing well nervously. Kagome smiled and picked him up, as I picked up Kirara. We stood at the edge of the well, latching elbows.

“Ready?” Kagome asked me. Taking a deep breath, I nodded, “On the count of three, we'll jump together.” I nodded again.

“One,” I said, willing my heart to slow.

“Two…” Kagome said, tightening her grip as we both prepared for our big descent.

“THREE!” We both said at once, jumping. The blue light that always announced Kagome's arrival or departures surrounded us, only this time, there was also a bunch of swirling orange lights as well.

Finally, we landed, though it seemed much darker than before. The aura of the well faded slowly, until it disappeared completely. I sat there for a moment, stunned that it had actually worked. Finally a light tug on my elbow from Kagome brought me back, and I began to climb out of the well.

I found out it was darker because there was a strange shed built around the well. Kagome, with Shippo on her shoulder, made her way to the door, opening it to reveal bright sunlight outside, and my first real glance at Kagome's world.

I looked around in fascination as Kagome led me to her home, at least ten times bigger than my own hut was back in the tajiya village, and my father was village headman.

“Sis!!!” Kagome and I turned at the yell, in time to see a young boy connect with Kagome's waist “You're back!!!” Kagome smiled.

“Hey, Souta! Did you miss me?” Souta, who I remembered to be Kagome's little brother, grinned up at her.

“You bet! So? How was it? Did you get and jewel shards? Who are these people?” Kagome smiled at him.

“Souta, these some of our family from the feudal era. This here's Shippo, your nephew, and Sango, my sister. That's Kirara on her shoulder.” I smiled at the boy's curious gaze.

|Kohaku would get along great with him…| I said to Kagome.

“So… you're the tajiya?” Souta asked, almost awestruck. I bit back a laugh. “Cool!!! But, I thought you were human…” I smiled slightly.

“I was,” I said, “I just turned into a youkai to save Kohaku.” Souta's eyes widened as he turned back to Kagome.

“Then it's over?! The jewel is complete?!” Kagome laughed.

“Yes. The Shikon no Tama is right here, and Naraku is gone.” Kagome's smile vanished now, “Although… something came up, Souta. It's time for me to come clean to Mama and Jii-chan about Senshi.” Souta looked surprised for a second, before it shifted to determination and he nodded, grasping Kagome's hand.

I silently followed the two into the house, surprised that all the fear and insecurities Kagome was feeling right now did not show on her face. I focused on the matter at hand again when Kagome began to address a kind looking woman I assumed was her mother.

“Mama? There's something I have to tell you…”

“…and that's the story,” Kagome finished in the silent living room. I sat behind the couch she was on, offering her silent support. Higurashi-san and Kagome's mother stared at the girl in shock.

“I knew for a while now,” Souta said, also sounding a little nervous. “Senshi's not bad or anything, and Kagome's still Kagome.”

“I'll understand if you're angry with me for keeping this from you,” Kagome said in a calm voice, her eyes shielded with her bangs.

“Angry…?” Kagome's mother repeated in a dazed tone, “Oh, no sweetie! We're not angry with you, are we, dad?”

“Of course not!” Higurashi-san said firmly as Kagome's hopeful expression landed on his face. “Kitsune or not, you're still my one and only granddaughter.”

“I just have one question for you,” Kagome's mother said, looking at Kagome curiously.

“Y-yes?” Kagome asked. Senshi was on high alert in her mind.

“Does this Senshi have a cute tail or ears like your other youkai friends?”

`Crash!'

“Owowowowow!!!!!!!” Souta yelled as he attempted through Briars. “Couldn't you have hidden him in a less painful spot?!?!”

“Sorry Souta, can't hear you!!!” Kagome replied with a grin at me.

~This really is unfair to him,~ Senshi said in amusement in the back of her mind, ~He doesn't have the ability to jump over it like we do.~

^He insisted on coming along.^ Kagome replied. Then she sighed in defeat, watching her brother who was currently pacing at the other edge of a thick barrier of briars Shippo had made to protect Kohaku from being found.

Clapping her hands together, she made the ground shoot up, successfully clearing a path to us for Souta.

“That's handy,” Souta said, walking through.

((Why didn't you two just do that earlier?!))

~It was too much fun watching you try to get through using human logic,~ Senshi replied cheerfully. Souta gave Kagome a dirty look as she giggled at that.

“Haha…” Souta replied, stopping short at the sight of Kohaku.

I was relieved to find him still there and in one piece. Kagome looked at me for the nod of consent before she moved forward, taking one of her `stone barrettes' out of her hair. (Senshi insisted she start wearing them after it became clear the Higurashi family accepted them for what they were, along with a pebble bracelet and necklace. That was it, though, since she refused to get to the point Senshi was at.)

Placing the stone against Kohaku's chest to channel her magic, Kagome began to chant the spell and both she and my brother began to glow. Soon the glow faded, and my brother's stone body turned to flesh.

My heartbeat picked up when I heard him groan, and I unconsciously held my breath as his eyes (Now dark green) opened, focusing on me.

“S-Sango?” Air exploded from my lungs as I raced forward and hugged Kohaku as hard as I could.

“Kohaku…” I murmured, tears running down my face.

“Sango, I-I killed them. I killed them all! Father, the villagers… It's all my fault!!!!!!” Kohaku sobbed into my shoulder as I hugged him tighter, holding him until his tears ran out.

My beloved little brother was back…

Once Kohaku calmed down, and I got it through to him that no one blamed him for what happened to our villagers, we started back to the Higurashi shrine. He was still hurt, I could tell, but he'd get better. He was already getting fond of Souta and Shippo.

“Well, took you guys long enough,” I blinked in surprise at the unfamiliar rebuke in a semi-familiar voice. “I was really starting to think I should just go on ahead with your mom and grandpa and come back later for you guys.”

I stared at the young girl who came out from the Goshinboku, in an odd looking kimono. Kagome gasped at the sight of her.

“RIN?!?!?!” The girl grinned.

“The one and only!” Rin cocked her head, “What, no hug? It's been 500 years, you know,” Kagome laughed and hugged the girl.

“You look like you've hardly aged a year!!!” Rin grinned.

“Yeah. Sesshomaru-sama thinks it may be a result of all the time bending you did. Humans in the Mienaikai age one year for every two hundred. So technically I'm somewhere around 10 right now.”

“How is everyone?” Kagome asked excitedly.

“YOU can ask them yourself when you get your butt back on your throne, your majesty!!!” Rin said sticking her tongue out at Kagome. The miko swatted at her playfully.

“Ah! All that time around youkai has made you evil!!!” She declared, wrinkling her nose. Rin laughed.

“Well?!?!?! Come on!!! I promised Kanna I'd get you back before she had to leave for the Reikai!!!” Kagome shook her head.

“We should probably get some things together…”

“Taken care of,” Rin said, “We have people coming in and bringing everything to the Mienaikai, our royal dress seamstresses have made you clothes and we already have rooms ready for your arrival.” Kagome cocked an eyebrow, and the spirited human shrugged, “Our people don't want their Queen gone for any longer than she has to be. Sesshomaru's great and all, but he kinda lacks your compassion.” Kagome laughed.

“Well then! Let's go, shall we?” Souta grinned as Rin made the portal.

“Last one through's a rotten egg!!!” He yelled, instantly causing a race among all the children. I laughed.

“I guess everything's coming together, hm?” I said softly to Kagome. She smiled.

“Yeah. Guess so.” I watched curiously as a rather impish grin spread across her face. “And I also guess that this makes you the rotten egg,” I blinked in surprise as Kagome darted into the portal, before I laughed slightly and followed her.

Finally, a little peace…
