Prologue: Red Innocence

"Bastard…" she whispered under her breath venomously as he leered over her with a dagger to her throat. He had her pinned down on the ground and he had her wrists held over her head with on of his hands.

Her long bright red hair lay strewn about her face while her white bangs were brushed off to the side. Her dark purple eyes glaring keenly at him with no sign of fear, only malice and ill contempt for him and nothing more.

His bangs shadowed his face so she couldn't make out any of his facial features, but she could tell he wasn't human just by looking at him. His long silver hair and ears were not human features.

There was something evil about his presence, something terrible.

She fumed under him, wishing to kill him for this act he was doing to her. "Let go of me." She said acidly, "Let me go."

"Come now dear," he said in a false sing song voice pressing the blade into her tender flesh, making it bleed a little. He withdrew the dagger a bit and licked the blood off her neck causing her to cringe at the feel of his wet tongue against her skin. "You used to love it when I did this to you, pet."

"Don't call me that!" she spat angrily, trying to free herself from his grasp but it was no use. He was always stronger then she was, he was always in control and she wasn't. "You're enjoying this aren't you?" she stated fiercely, sending a deadly glare up at him.

She could see a smug smile play upon his lips, "You know me too well, pet." His tone wasn't harsh nor was it comforting. It was purely sinister, no emotion nor feeling in it. Passionless you could say. He traced the tip of the sharp blade down her bare collar down, making a thin cut in her skin that soon bleed, down to her stomach.

She could feel his soulless eyes stare down at her helpless, naked form beneath him, even though she couldn't see them.

Long lost words whisper slowly to me

Still can't find what keeps me here

When all this time I've been so hollow inside

I know you're still there

"Not liking being the powerless one in this game, do you? Tell me, how does it feel that your death is but moments away pet? Tell me, are you frightened?" He chuckled darkly waiting for a response.

It was now her turn to grin, "Death…it is inevitable. Why should I fear what will come to pass anyway? It is merely the start of a new adventure and the end of an old one. Go ahead and kill me." She paused, monitoring him briefly before continuing. "But if you do, I grantee that your suffering will be a thousand times more painful than mine. That is a promise I can keep."

Everyone dies…why should it be different for her? It was just the way things were and if he though she was afraid of dying, he had another thing coming.

He was a coward at heart when it came to her, he probably wouldn't kill her anyway.

"Oh really?" He sneered, the dagger quivering in his grip.

His fury raising rocketing towards the sky.

He wanted to make her scared of him, but she went ahead and mocked his desire to cause her pain and suffering.

"You're a coward," her words dripping in poison. "Kill me and you destroy everything you hold dear."

She saw him flinch a little as he shifted his body weight, making it more uncomfortable for her.

"I hold you're pathetic life in my hands," he said trembling, "Don't tempt me."

"That proves my point." she exclaimed crossly, "You haven't the guts to kill even a mouse."

That hit a sore spot in him, "How dare you…"

"How dare I what?" she asked blinking cutely at him.

"You really do find this amusing, pet." He stated fingering the dagger, still holding it to her.

The blade shimmered softly in the moonlight as though it was some gem. The golden handle of it with encrusted jewels glowed as he twirled it slowly in his hands.

"Don't call me pet." She growled, hardly audible.

"And why not? It suits you." A smirk coming upon his face now.

She narrowed her eyes at him, "It was a stupid fling you bastard." Her voice shrouded with ice.

He leaned down and muttered into her ear with gritted teeth, "You should know better then to play with ones heart."

Watching me wanting me

I can feel you pull me down

Fearing you loving you

I won't let you pull me down

"You honestly think I could be attracted to someone as self centered as you?" She asked raising an eyebrow with a jeering tone.

He dug his fingernails into her wrists making her wince as blood trickled out and leaving crescent marks on her skin.

"Always wanting what you can't have," she said biting her bottom lip. "That is one thing that almost every living being shares."

"Who says I can't have you?" he inquired, obviously irritated with her.

"I do," she answered coolly, "You'll have to kill me first."

He tightened his grip around the dagger and his knuckles turned a ghostly white, "That can be arranged."

"Really?" She said raising both eyebrows, "And here I was thinking you were too pitiful to kill anyone." She delighted in making him frustrated.

"Do you think you are being cute when you act immature?" He questioned the young demoness.

She shrugged, "Not if you do."

"I have a question for you," he said regaining his calmness.

"What is it?" she asked with no real interest, only wanting to get out of this situation.

"Tell me and be honest," He pressed the blade into her a bit so it grazed her. "Do you love me?"

"No," she replied automatically. How could she love? She was heartless after all. "I don't."

"Would you ever?" He asked gently.

She turned her face away from him. "No. I can't love, not even if I wanted to."

"You are everything to me, pet." He then inhaled and exhaled slowly before speaking again in a slow voice, "I really do love you Setsuna."

Hunting you I can smell you-alive

Your heart pounding in my head

She opened her mouth to speak, but nothing came out. She was for the first time in a long time, truly speechless. Those words spoke nothing but truth and it made her hurt inside, but not enough to feel remorse or sorrow for misleading him.

Those words said so purely with full meaning, could make anyone freeze.

After what seemed to be an eternity of silence he said in a low hiss, "And if I can't have you, no one can." At the end of those words, he plunged the dagger into her stomach without hesitation and her blood splattered onto his white clothes.

Her eyes widened in sheer surprise as blood poured from her and onto the ground forming a dark red puddle under her fallen body.

It felt so cold, darkness coming in around her on all sides.

Consuming her, devouring her.

So this is dying, she thought to herself emotions running wild in her head, it isn't so bad…its kind of nice in a strange way…so peaceful.

She then felt drops of something wet hit her face. She stared up and saw tears streaming down the cheeks of his face. His tears glistened in the dim light of the night, making them appear to be precious gems as they poured from his eyes.

She saw his lips move, but could hardly make out the words he was saying. But it sounded like, "I always loved you and no one else…why couldn't you understand that? Why can't you say you love me back?" It was said in a quiet voice so she couldn't be sure, but tears continued to flow steadily down his face.

He then stood up, leaving the crimson stained blade embedded within her body and walked away without looking back.

The night sky shone with stars and a brilliant full moon as its beauty was wasted for that night.

Her eyes lingered after him for a while as her breathing grew shallower by the minute. "Heh…" she huffed between breathes as pain gave way to numbness, with a smile, "I…didn't think the bastard…had it in him…to kill…me…" Everything was cold now and her vision become blurred. "Humans…or demons…it makes no difference. We will all destroy…what we truly love…" Tears fell from her eyes as well, but they were not like his. Hers were of blood.

Watching me wanting me

I can feel you pull me down

Saving me raping me

Watching me

As the more and more blood left her in crimson rivers, her soul felt as though it was being mended from the pain it had once endured.

A feeling of completion arose deep within in and now she could finally let go of everything.

She then closed her eyes slowly letting the oblivion swallow her up.

Letting it release her from the loneliness that was now within her so she could finally move on from this hell.

"Thank…you…" escaped her lips in a soft moan as she drifted into the dark sleep that awaited every one at their life's end.

The pain that had once torn her apart, the suffering that had tarnished her spirit, the fear that was diminishing like a small flame inside of her, and the hatred of everything innocent began leaving her.

Now in her death, at long last after years of being tainted by bloodshed…she could finally say that she was just as innocent as a newborn child.

Though, she was not truly dead.

Her body may have died, but her spirit remained in the ether.

It was in fact the other way around, because of her, he was now dead inside.

He could feel nothing after what she had done to him.
