Time without End

Prologue

The mission had gone slightly astray after Hiei had used his dragon of the darkness flame to bring down the criminal. Everyone had thought it was over due to the fact the demon was laying deep fried in cinders and Hiei fell exhaustedly to the ground. However, they were sadly mistaken that the demon was dead. In a bit of insanity, the demon lord made a last ditch effort at destroying the spirit detectives by deciding destroy the portal he was going to use to get to the human world. The demon thought it better to kill himself along with those trouble making detectives by having the portal blow up at close range but instead the portal imploded. The demon lord laughed mechanically as the force pulled him into the tunnel.

The three conscious members of the team grabbed onto the large pillars so they wouldn't get dragged by the suction of air. Suddenly, the team remembered that Hiei had blacked out, and his body was skidding across the floor.

"Hiei!" Kurama shouted as he watched the unconscious fire demon's body was being sucked into a collapsing portal and close once the fire demon was pulled completely in.

The cold wind raged fiercely as Hiei dropped out of the portal from eight feet above the snow capped mountains. The free fall to the ground wasn't a safe one as his head slammed against a jagged edge rock. He tumble through the ground, painting the snow a bloody red and stopped at the edge of a cliff.

Heavy footsteps fell hard into the snow, making Hiei's body shake. The ledge under him started to crack and the rock surface started to descend into the valley.

As the rock crashed down below, Hiei hung upside down in the air. A long slender hand was firmly wrapped around Hiei's ankle and handles the pass out demon to his face. A two head lizard, carrying a small girl covered in thick gray fur, stood in the back of Hiei's rescuer

"What! Why did you save him, Lord Sesshoumaru?" A small toad looking demon named Jaken inquired to the dog demon, Sesshomaru.

"His scent is unusual and I have never smelt this type of blood before."

"What are you planning to do with him?"

"He might be of use to us when he recovers."

"My lord, we can't bring another wretched child with us!"

"Jaken, are you questioning my judgment?" Sesshoumaru calm voice was colder than the blinding snow.

Jaken grew scared at his lord's tone. "No, my lord. Please forgive me."

A soft squeeze interrupted Jaken's apology followed by "I'm cold." From the human girl, Rin.

"Let's find shelter for the night." Sesshoumaru stated as he roughly dumped Hiei behind Rin.

"The portal that the Demon Lord Yoshi created has sent both him and Hiei back to the Feudal Era." Koenma explained the details that had happen a few hours ago. Yusuke, Kuwabara, and Kurama were listening intensely for once.

"So all we have to do is cause another portal to collapse and we can travel back in time to get Hiei. Sounds simple enough." Yusuke tipped his head back and smiled.

"Are you crazy? My father would have my backside if I allowed you to travel through time."

"As much as the shrimp annoys me. We can't just abandon him in the past. Plus he is injured!" Kuwabara yelled at the toddler prince.

"I would like to help but there is only one person that is allowed to travel back to the Feudal Era. That is the reincarnation of the Priestess Kikyo, know as Kagome Higurashi of Tokyo." Koenma brought up her picture and file data on his large monitor. "Her family runs a Shinto shrine; where an old well can transport through time with the power of the Shikon jewel she wears around her neck. I'll have Botan contact her tomorrow to ask for her assistance in the search for Hiei. However, you guys have to understand that she has the right to object. She's not under reikai's jurisdiction and she might have her own problem to worry about."

Kurama had stayed strangely silent throughout the entire meeting with Koenma, waiting for the time that he could slip out. After he received all the information, he'd quietly slip away without anyone noticing. Kurama walked down the streets of Japan, littered with students returning home from school. He scanned through the faces of kids looking for the girl, Kagome. Ahead of him, he spotted her waving good-bye to her friends, once they cleared away from her, Kurama quickly approached her.

"Excuse me, your name is Miss Kagome? Is that right?" Kurama made his voice a gentle but sad tone. Kagome stopped

"Yes. I'm Kagome Higurashi. Who are you?"

"I'm sorry, my name is Shuuichi Minamino. This might sound strange but can I hug you?"

"Huh!" Kagome had a shocked look on her face.

"It just that you remind me of a friend I lost." Kurama schooled his face to have a vulnerable puppy dog expression.

"I guess that would be alright." Kagome chocked out. Not hesitating, Kurama threw his arms around her neck and cradle his head into her hair. Kagome felt paralyzed as she was gulf in the smell of roses and her face turning a bright red.

"I feel much better. Thank you, Miss Kagome." Kurama said as he released the girl and toke a step back.

"It was… no… problem." Kagome tumbled with her words as she watched the redhead leave.

When Kurama turned the corner, he was met with a pissed off Yusuke and Kuwabara.

"What are you thinking Kurama? This is no time to flirt, when your best friend is trapped in another time!" Yusuke shouted at him. Kurama replied by daggling the chained pinkish purple jewel on his finger for the boys to see.

"How did you get that?" Kuwabara asked with a dumbfounded expression.

"You forget, Kuwabara, that I am expert thief." Kurama closed his fingers around the jewel.
