Chapter 2: Reunion

“Koenma, don’t.” Athena stopped the infant-like son of Enma Daioh when he jumped down from his seat to run to the redhead nurse.

“Why?” the baby protested.

“There’s something about that nurse I don’t quite trust.” she frowned.

“Athena-sama, are you going down again?” George asked.

The Goddess said nothing as the door slammed shut.

Back down at the battle arena…

A scheme by the Team Masho's owner had ensnared both Hiei and the Masked Fighter before the fight.

They were trapped inside a powerful forcefield by a redhead enchantress who was working for Team Masho, and disguised as a nurse.

With Kuwabara badly injured, that meant that Yusuke and Kurama would have to take on this entire team alone.

Kurama replied that he would take out the first three warriors.

As such, his first opponent happened Gama, a master of makeup.

Gama used his ‘Makeup of Chains’ attack on Kurama, rendering the redhead’s arms and legs useless.

But just as Gama was going in for the kill, Kurama surprised the shinobi with a hard slash of his Rose Whip. Turns out, he had planted a rose seed in his hair, enabling the whip to come out like a snake out of his hair.

Kurama won that battle, but the broken and bleeding Gama place one last spell on Kurama before he died. He had sealed Kurama's spirit energy inside his body with ‘Makeup of the Seal’.

Right before he passed off, Gama informed Kurama that his blood had sealed off his spirit energy.

And to make matters worse, the next member, Touya was ready to fight and avenge his dead teammate.

Touya attacked just as Gama's first spell began to wear off, allowing Kurama to move.

However, with his spirit energy still sealed, Kurama was in a very bad situation.

The kitsune thief spent all of the time trying to keep himself from getting killed by.

Eventually, he formed a plan to defeat Touya.

By allowing himself to get cut on purpose, Kurama managed to plant one of his death plant seeds inside his own body right so it can manifest as a weapon.

Just as Touya as was about to deliver a death blow, Kurama's death plant finally sprouted out, and got it to slice right through Touya, and thus ending the fight.

A defeated Touya wanted Kurama to kill him, but he refuses.

However, the battle had taken its toll on the fox-demon in disguise, and his severe injuries had caused him to fall unconscious right in the center of the stage.

Yusuke wanted to take over since he knew Kurama could not fight, but Team Masho's owner had once again bribed the committee, and they ruled that since Kurama was still standing, he must participate in the next match.

And even worse, the next fighter was Baken, a huge, muscle-bound brute.

Baken then grabbed the unconscious Kurama and begun beating him to death.

The announcer Koto tried to give a 10-count to stop the fight, but Baken just ignore her plainly, before kicking her out of the ring.

Just as Baken was about to kill Kurama, the team captain, Risho, called him to stop.

Turns out, Yusuke was about to fire his spirit gun right at Baken if he had tried to kill Kurama.

Kurama was then tossed out of the ring and Baken declared the winner.

Yusuke then got onto the ring to confront him.

Facing Yusuke, Baken covered the entire arena in mist with his sweat, so Yusuke would not be able to see where he was.

At first, Baken delivered a few blows, which barely harmed Yusuke.

Yusuke then fired a spirit gun through the arena, causing the mist to vanish. With Baken wide open, Yusuke delivered a punch to his ribs.

Before he could cause any more damage, Baken began to plead for Yusuke to grant him mercy, saying he was caught up in the heat of battle when he beat up Kurama.

“Pathetic.” Athena muttered, referring obviously to Baken.

Hiei rose a brow at the Goddess.

Athena ignored him as she unscathed a crystal sword from her waist.

“Genkai, step back.” she advised.

The younger Genkai nodded, in realization what Athena was about to do.

With a cross sweep, the Toki no Kusabi’s energy clashed with the forcefield. The energy field crackled under the punishment.

That done, Athena pointed the tip of the sword at the swirling electricity and chanted a spell.

Seconds later, the electricity was absorbed into the sword.

The redhead enchantress was shock and stunned at the sudden turn of events.

“Who are you?” she screeched, running before the Goddess.

Athena frowned dangerously at the ‘nurse’ and pointed the sword at her throat.

“This is the Toki no Kusabi, woman.” she hissed, stepping forward slowly.

“The Link of Time?” the ‘nurse’ stammered, realizing who was before her.

“It has no eyes, if you know what I mean.” Athena warned

The ‘nurse’ nodded frantically and took off quickly.

With the thorn of her side gone, Athena breathed in relief and rescathed the sword.

“You really are Athena.” Hiei noted.

The Goddess said nothing and walked towards the very injured Kurama.

Meanwhile on the battlefield…

Yusuke had actually believed him for a few seconds, causing Baken to smash a rock into his head. However, this only irritated him more, and he then broke about every single bone in Baken's body with a few well-placed hits.

“Baka.” Athena muttered.

“Never ever trust your opponent.” she added.

“A bit too late for that.” Kurama noted.

Breaking a small smile at the girl, he replied, “Been a while, Blue.”

Athena quirked a brow at the redhead and joked, “Stubborn as always, Red.”

Kurama frowned, “I thought I told you never to call me that.”

“If I remember correctly, you were the one who called me Blue in the first place.” Athena replied.

Kurama let out a painful grin, “Quite true.”

Then, Athena’s gaze softened.

Kneeling beside Kurama who was leaning against the wall, she scolded, “You really know how to give me a heart attack, Minamino.”

“Gomen.” Kurama muttered.

Athena let out a forgiving smile.

Emerald green clashed with sapphire blue as the two childhood friends gazed into each others’ eyes.

Seconds ticked by as their heads drew closer, eyes fluttered shut…

“Ahem.” a cough from Genkai broke the pair apart.

Athena stumbled back in shock, her eyes blinking hard at what they were about to do.

Recomposing herself, the Goddess stood up. Staff in hand, she headed back to the audience seats.

A choked ‘Amelia’ stopped her in her tracks.

It can’t be... Athena gasped mentally.

Turning back, she breathed in disbelief, “Yoko?”
