Chapter1: Sorceress Extraordinaire!

Hiei growled as he traveled down a dirt path that was cutting through the center of a large forest. He had been stuck in here for hours and was getting annoyed. What the hell had happened anyway? He had been walking towards Yusuke's to give him his next assignment from Koenma when there had been a bright flash, and then he was here.

Hiei approached a fork in the path and thought carefully. Which way to go? The path to the right was quiet and peaceful, with the sound of birds singing. When Hiei looked down the left path another sound caught his ears, it sounded like explosions, big ones.

Lina smiled evilly as she attacked the bandit camp with fireball after fireball. Flames surrounded her as she grabbed a bag of loot and headed out. But a man with long silvery hair stood in her way.

" Get out of my way!" she snarled at him, charging a fireball in her hand, " NOW!"

" I think not little sorceress," the man said, and then looked at her chest, " Very little sorceress."

Lina growled and fired at him, hitting him in the stomach, " What's that supposed to mean asshole?"

Lina was about to cast a lightening spell on him when a boy stepped out of the forest, he looked young from where she was, like maybe nine, or ten, but the sword that was strapped to his side made him look decades older. The man that Lina had pinned to the ground took advantage of her being preoccupied and kicked her in the stomach, sending her sprawling, and then he charged a spell of his own. But he never got to fire it.

Lina watched as the boy attacked, severing the silver-haired man's head from his body. She winced as the blood splattered all over her front, but felt lucky to be alive.

" Thanks kid," she said to the boy who was now sheathing his sword.

" I am not a child," he said, his dark hair splattered with blood.

" I am sorry," Lina said, knowing what it was like to be called what you were not, " I am Lina Inverse, sorceress extraordinaire!"

" Hn," was all the boy said.

" Aw, come on," Lina said, nudging him slightly, " Who are you?"

" Hiei," was all he said.

" Well, Hiei," Lina said, " Wanna travel with me to the next town? It's safer that way."

" Hn," was the only reply, but traveling with Zelgadis for those long years had taught her that that usually meant yes.

" Okay then!" she said, " Let's go."

Hiei followed Lina, trailing behind slightly.

She had strong energy, and he had seen the attack she was going to use on the man before he came, it was powerful. Lina acted as though she traveled a lot, and not alone either. She knew Hiei's personality, which made traveling with her tolerable. She knew he didn't like to talk much, and she didn't press him for details about his past.

They entered a town shortly after leaving the forest, and Hiei followed her through it, keeping a little closer. There were many people in the town, and it seemed like a good place to buy weapons, magical or not.

Lina entered an inn, and Hiei followed, sitting at a table in the back across from her.

" Well," Lina said, " I must say, that was the quietest journey I have ever been on, and thanks again!"

" Hn," Hiei said, " I was just passing by at the right time."

" I know that you don't have to answer this," Lina said, " But where exactly are you from? I've never seen you around here before."

" I am from far away," Hiei said, " At least I think so. I don't know where I am, or how I got here."

" Really?" Lina asked, her eyes growing large, " Where are you from?"

" I'm from a place called Japan," Hiei said to her, " And I was going to visit someone when I was transported here."

" Wow," Lina said, sitting back and thinking, " Let's see, I know that people here don't listen to women a whole lot, but I hope you'll listen to me."

Hiei nodded, she sounded like someone who only spoke when they knew what they were talking about, and that would make things easier.

" I have traveled all my life," Lina said, " And it's my reputation that makes me a danger to be with. You see, since I was young I have been somewhat of a bandit, but not quite. I kill bandits and take their money to help myself, and my companions on our travels.

" It started about three years ago that I was traveling with three others, and we got caught up in some very dangerous business. I was known as Lina the Bandit Killer, but after my adventures with them my reputation changed, and now I am Lina the Dark Lord Slayer. My companions and I traveled through the land and tried to help each other, I'm not sure how it really started.

" You see, I got my hands on this very important stone, and I didn't know it, but soon it became clear when I was kidnapped and well tortured for the info. I had somewhat figured out what was happening before that though, so I had put a spell on the item that made it untraceable, and given to my companion, Gourry.

" After that weird things started happening, the enemy released me and traveled with me, becoming our ally against his great grandfather, Rezo, and then we met of with a princess named Amelia and saved the world from a dark lord called Shabranigdo. We thought that our adventures would end there, but they didn't. You see, Rezo resurrected a dark lord within his body, and then tried to destroy the world again, but we killed him, and it was a very sad thing. What happened was that Rezo had already done the same thing with Shabranigdo, but we killed him, and then there was a copy of Rezo who did the same thing with another dark lord, and we killed him.

" Well, that was only the beginning of our story. Do you want to hear the rest?" Lina asked.

" Hmm," Hiei thought for a moment, it all seemed too farfetched. But then again, look at his life through human eyes and it did too, " I'll listen, but not now, right now I want to know where I am."

" You're Zepheria," Lina said, though she sounded sad, " This is what is known as the outer world. That's another story though. Anyway, one of my companions is somewhere in this outer world, and the rest of my friends are back in the land I was born in, they are fulfilling their duties, and I was left to travel alone."

" Perhaps we should seek out your friend, and then the others, they may be able to help us," Hiei suggested.

Lina perked up at the thought of seeing them again and nodded, " Great idea, Zel knows tons about dimension traveling and such!"

Hiei smiled, though he didn't know why and quickly hid the grin.

Lina stood up and walked towards the door, " Let's go Hiei, let's find you your way home!"

Hiei stood and followed.

Three days later

Hiei sat up from where he was sleeping and peered around the small camp he and Lina had slept in. They had entered a canyon region, and were surrounded by red rock. There was a small fire in the center of the camp and it had dwindled down to embers. The sun was rising slowly east of them, and Hiei looked to the south. They had heard rumor of a man that met Zel's description in a town that they would reach in a few hours. Hiei stood and doused the remaining embers, earning a hiss as the cold water met the heat. Then he set about to gather up the things he had required. He rolled up his blanket, and put everything back in the pack that Lina had bought him. Then admired his new clothing, still all black, but much more comfortable for traveling through the hot canyons. It was a black and brown tunic, with black pants, and boots, along with a brown leather belt to hook his sword on. Hiei still had a bandana to cover his Jagan, but now it was pure black with a silver dragon embroidered on it, Lina had said it reminded her of him.

" Lina," Hiei said when he was done, tapping her lightly on the shoulder, " Wake up, the sun is rising, and we have to find Zelgadis today."

" Good morning," Lina mumbled as she sat up, stretching slowly and packing up her own things, " Sleep well?"

The truth of the matter was that Hiei had never slept as well as he was recently. The traveling made him tired, so he slept deeply, but the traveling also got him into better shape, so he nodded and smiled slightly. Lina smiled at him as she finished packing and stood up straight.

" Well," she said as she looked at the horizon, " Let's get going."

Hiei nodded and followed as she led the way through the twisting canyon, and towards a village nestled in the cool rock.

***

They reached the village around midday and made there way to a pub, hoping to hear news of Zel, which they did.

" Yeah," a barmaid said after hearing Lina's description, " I saw him about three hours ago, he headed out of the village towards the west, said something about a cure of some sort."

" Thanks!" Lina said as she grabbed Hiei and dragged him out of the pub and out the town, heading west.

They had been traveling for a few hours when they heard the sound of someone walking up ahead. Lina had hurried ahead, being swift yet cautious, just in case it wasn't Zel, and had spotted the silver haired, stone skinned man walking quickly. Stifling a giggle Lina snuck up behind him and only let her presence be known by jumping him from behind and hugging him.

" ZEL!!" she screamed, " We've been looking for you for days!!!!"

" Lina?" Zelgadis asked, turning and smiling at her, " LINA! Where have you been all this time?"

" Traveling, what else?" Lina answered, " I am trying to get my old name back, ya know, Lina Inverse the bandit Killer?"

" Of course," Zel said, " I've been doing the same thing I always was, searching for my cure."

" Any good leads?" Lina asked him.

" A thought a few were, but they always turned up false."

" Oh Zel, before I forget why I've been searching for you, this is Hiei," Lina pointed to Hiei, who gave a curt nod, " We've been traveling together looking for you."

" Pleasure," Zelgadis said, not liking the way Hiei's aura felt.

" Hn," was all Hiei said in return, not liking how close Lina was to this guy, " Lina, don't forget the reason we're traveling together."

" I won't!" Lina said to him, sticking her tongue out, " I was just getting to it! Zel, Hiei has a problem, ya see, he was in another world and he was somehow teleported here. I want to help him get home, but I thought maybe you and the others would help."

" Hmm," Zelgadis thought about it for a moment, " Travel with the gang again, and maybe find more leads for my curse. You got it Lina, I'll travel with ya!"

" Oh Zel," Lina said happily, " This is going to be just like old times!"

Hiei held back a growl as Zel hugged Lina, and then stopped and wondered why he felt that way. What was making him act that way? She was just a human! No, she wasn't, she was a sorceress, and a very powerful one at that. But that still made him wonder, why was he feeling like this towards her?

" Mister Gourry!" Amelia cried as the giant fish thingy attacked her, " Help!!"

Amelia fired a Flare Arrow at the fish creature, killing it, and watched as Gourry killed a giant squid thing.

" You go Mr. Gourry!" she yelled, " You can beat it!"

Gourry nodded and sliced it with his new sword. His new sword, it was okay, but he missed the Sword Of Light, that one was his favorite. Gourry sheathed his sword and walked over to Amelia.

" That was weird," he said, " What did they want anyway?"

" I don't know mister Gourry," Amelia said, " But they said something about a Forbidden Child."

" Weird," Gourry said as they walked out of the castle courtyard and into the city.

Outskirts Of The Inner World, Just within the Monster Races Barrier

Hiei walked beside Lina and kept his senses ready to pick up the slightest disturbance in the air. Something was terribly wrong. The aura around this area changed. It was light and somewhat happy outside the monster races barrier and now it was dark and almost suffocating. There was only a seconds notice. The snap of a twig, a rush of wind and then he was there. Amethyst eyes gleaming.

" Hello Lina!" he said happily.

" Xellos…" Lina said unhappily, " What an unpleasant surprise."

The purple haired man called Xellos smiled and turned to Hiei, " A little fire demon. What could you be doing with Lina?"

" He's trying to get out of this world and back to his," Lina said, drawing the attention back to herself, " Now go away Xellos."

" Lina! Is that anyway to treat me after such a long time?" Xellos asked her in mock surprise, " I mean really! Three years and you still hold a grudge!"

" No, I just find you to be an annoying pain in the ass!" Lina said, " Now get out of my way or I'll summon the Ragna Blade and cut you in two!"

Xellos' eyes widened in surprise and he stepped back one step. Lina smiled almost demonically and stepped forward.

" Lina," Hiei said, knowing it had to be bad, " Calm down."

Lina stopped her advance and looked down into Hiei's red eyes. She nodded and backed away.

" Hm," Xellos looked between the two, " Looks like I was lucky your master was here Lina."

Then he vanished.

Hisi voice echoing on the wind, " I will be back."
