Ch.1
The cold stone room was not very accommodating. There were no lights or ventilation. The plain metal cot attached to one wall didn't do much for the atmosphere either. Plus the place smelled very faintly of mold. Yusuke sighed, just because he was half vampire did not mean he enjoyed sleeping in dark damp spaces. He supposed it was better than sleeping six feet under though. Having to shift from his back to his side every ten minutes made him more tired than rested. He'd tried sleeping on the floor, but something had decided to attempt crawling up his leg, so he chose the cot instead.
He yawned, and gave up on sleeping for the moment.
"This sucks," He grumbled to himself," I never should have agreed to come to England with that weird broad."
Seven hours ago he'd arrived in London after meeting a blonde woman named Sir Integral Hellsing. She claimed to be the head of a secret organization known as Hellsing, whose agents had attempted to kill him for being a vampire. When the woman discovered he was a half-breed she gave him two choices, come with her to England, or get shot full of holes. Becoming a piece of Swiss cheese was not a life time goal of his so he agreed to join her little institution. At the time he'd been surrounded by her agents with no hope of escape or he would have told her to shove her proposal where the sun didn't shine.
He had no idea what she wanted him *for*. It could have been for an experimental Ginnipig for all he knew.
'They could have at least given me a nicer place to stay...'
~#~
Two floors above him sat the said leader of Hellsing behind her large wood desk, who was smoking a cigar and reading through the latest report. Her assistant, Walter, stood close by ready to take the next order of operation. Integral was told that a major demon monopoly was moving supplies to a secret location on Earth. Over her dead body they were. The Supernatural realm knew perfectly well that relocation of either persons or goods into human territory without signed permission was illegal in all countries. They had some nerve trying to go under her nose with it. It also meant they were more than likely shipping illegal merchandise as well, which would explain their sneaking through the dimensional barrier gate's checkpoints.
"They paid someone off to get through, the DBG task force is much to thorough for that amount of illegal goods to slip past unnoticed," Integral said. She then blew out a breath of smoke.
"I will have a search warrant issued if you wish my lady."
"Yes, do that. If I must go there and search it myself, I will."
"I can send in Captain Botan, her section is qualified to handle this situation."
Sir Hellsing nodded," That is true. Very well, alert Botan and her men. After we receive the warrant they deploy."
Walter bowed his head and quickly left her office. She rubbed the end of the cigar out in the ash tray and sighed. No demon would be allowed to make a fool of her organization. The Royal Spirit Knights Institution was not one to be taken lightly and ignored. The institution's success was a reflection of her late father's hard work from the past three decades, before he died six years ago in a vampire attack. The vampire council had formally apologized for their escaped convict, but Integral always suspected that it had not been an accident, and they used it as an excuse to get her father out of their hair. There was currently a cease-fire pact between the British and Vampire governments that her grandfather had made fifty years prior. Any Vampire that did not have licensed permission to enter the planet's barrier was immediately executed if found. Despite that law they always found ways to enter without going through the checkpoints first. That was why she could never stop being the Iron Maiden, her country depended on it. In fact, the entire human race did. Integral folded the report back and placed it into her desk's safe with all the other important documents. Then she locked it and rose out of her chair. She would head down stairs to chat with the latest member of her organization, she had a feeling he would become an important asset to her.

Kurama watched the brightly colored birds fly about in the glass ceiling aviary. He never minded being called to his government's capital, it was a very nice building to visit. It was the only one that was made completely of flowering vines. Indestructible vines thanks to centuries of added wards and preservation spells. They never died, or wilted, or became victim to parasites. Immortal beauty, like most of his race possessed. The Fae did not grow old or die of natural causes, most lived for tens of centuries unless they *wanted* to die. Pure blooded members of his race under 1000 years were a very uncommon sight. Cross breeding was popular among the Fae, especially with Elves and Shape-shifters. Vampires were avoided by most except the ones who had a taste for the exotic, and breeding with demons was thought of as beyond disgusting. Unfortunately his mother was one of the more 'experimental' ones of her race, and had been impregnated by an animal demon. A fox spirit to be exact. So Kurama had two forms, his usual red-haired self, and the silver-haired bushy-tailed demon form which he hardly ever used. It tended to scare people.
He glanced to the left to see the small green haired woman who approached him.
"Excuse me? Lord Kurama? Grand Elder Genkai will see you now."
He nodded and smiled," Thank you."
The woman blushed slightly, nodded back, and walked away.
Kurama headed for the long hallway that led to the older Fae's office. Other workers glanced at him as he passed by. He could hear the females whispering to each other and giggling. It made him inertly laugh every time he came there. Out of the seventy Fae lords only the half breed showed no interest in courting women. There was a rumor floating around after he politely declined a Fae princess's advances saying he might pine the affection of other males. That wasn't the case but Kurama wasn't about to reveal all his secrets just to be free of fictitious gossip. As long as he knew they weren't true he could handle it just fine. He reached her office and knocked on the door.
"Enter!," Came the reply.
He held his hand up and the green door parted for him like a curtain. The Fae elder's office was as magnificent as the main hall. It was circular, and unlike the walls of the rest of the building it was made of pale green stone. The vines still formed the floor to ceiling bookcases near the back of the room and Genkai's desk and chair.
"Greetings Kurama," Genaki said while standing on a ladder near the top of one book shelf. She was searching through an endless number of books, all Kurama could see was the top of her pink-haired head and her shoed feet. She already had a four foot pile stacked next to her on the platform near the ladder.
"Greetings Grand Elder Genkai."
"Oh stop with the formalities, I didn't use your title, don't use mine."
Kurama smiled," Of course. May I ask why you're looking through all the archives?"
"No. I was going to tell you anyway so there's no point in you asking," She jumped down from top wrung, taking the books with her. She landed with ease on the stone floor and carried them to her desk.
"I see," Kurama laughed.
She sat down and looked at him," Have you heard of the demon monopoly Makai Incorporated?"
"Yes, there are not many who haven't."
"We have new evidence that the company is shipping unknown merchandise through the barrier gates without it being checked."
"How was it discovered?"
Genaki snickered," Some dimwit forgot to alter the weight recordings when one shipment went through."
"Truly? Then we are very lucky they were careless."
"Or," She continued," Someone else learned of it long before and sent a spy in to sabotage them."
Kurama took the book Genkai handed to him," Perhaps it was the Vampire council? They're famous for their spies and assassins."
"It is a possibility, but we are not sure as of yet."
Kurama scanned the page the book was open to," It certainly wasn't the Elves, they aren't ones for espionage, especially when demons are involved."
Genkai selected another book from the pile," That is true."
The half-breed's eyes widened when he found a particular name in the report," Mier Link? Isn't he a former Vampire council member?"
The elder nodded," Correct. He's taken up a partner ship with the CEO of Makai
Inc. It began the day before he retired from his seat."
"So the council *must* know about this then."
Genkai smirked," You are a sharp one. Exactly the Fae we need for this."
Kurama looked up at her from the book, "For what?"
"To stop them from completing whatever devious plot they have weaved together of course."
"Is it within our jurisdiction?," He asked.
"Technically no, but all five kingdoms spy on each other periodically, so it wont be much of an issue if you do interfere."
Genkai didn't need to add 'as long as you aren't caught' to the rest of the sentence for him to know that's what she meant.
"Understood."
"Good. Take these two archives with you and read them carefully. They have valuable information."
The red head nodded, gathered the books under his arm and turned to leave.
"And Kurama? If the council *has* sent a spy do stay out of their way. We'll all be better off, Vampires are vindictive as Hell."
The elder rarely ever used human curses, signifying to Kurama the seriousness of what she said.
"Yes. I will be sure to avoid this person."
"We want this taken care of a soon as possible, we have a 'travel' companion for you, to accompany you."
"Who?"
"An Elf, his name is Jin. You will meet him at the barrier checkpoint tonight. You have three hours to prepare."
Kurama nodded and left, the vine door closing behind him. He hated dealing with demons, it reminded him of his other half. Except Genkai had expressed respect for him by choosing the half-breed for such a classified issue, it would have been insulting to her and all the elders for him to decline. Not that they gave him a choice, it was rare for them to make a decision that wasn't mandatory for all it's participants. If they did everyone would think they were going soft, and that wouldn't be acceptable for their Grand Elder. Genkai may have been a tough person to work for, but at least she wouldn't kill or torture you if you failed.

Later that evening another shipment was passing through the barrier gate. The large square tarp covered mounds hovered one foot off the ground by the use of a levitation spell. Each mound was lead forward by an armed uniformed guard. There were 175 guards in all, no one would dare attack anything that heavily protected. At least no one untrained and with out a specific goal in mind.
Hiei lounged high up on the edge of the gate's outer wall, looking down. The male demon who hired him, Yomi, had requested that he be present for the rest of the shipments until they found the one who sabotaged the one before. The demon couldn't see why they were being so paranoid, he was a bodyguard for the most part, and didn't do guard work unless he was guarding a person. Yomi had dozens of flunkies he could have used. But of course not one had the credentials he possessed, or the experience.
He sighed and watched the guards as they passed by. Then he spotted something odd, out of the 175 guards 174 were male. Only one female, and right in the middle of the line. Using his third eye, he studied her face. Most of it was hidden by a billed hat, only her mouth and chin showed. He noticed she was carrying a long, thin piece of luggage strapped across her back.
"Hn," He frowned, narrowing his eyes at her. Then he decided to 'chat' with the woman, boredom made him vicious sometimes. He leaped off and landed in a crouched position on her merchandise load.
"Stop," He told her. The woman slowed, then halted. She stared straight ahead, silent and expressionless. Hiei jumped off and landed in front of her. She still did not look him in the eye, but through him. He was only a few inches taller, it wouldn't have taken much effort for her to look up. He glanced at her plastic name tag," Morgan is it? Common vampire name." He pulled the cap off her head, then lifted an eyebrow," But common in *appearance* you are not."
The demon bent slightly at the waist to look the vampire in the eye. They were as void of expression as her face was. Only a trained individual could have kept themselves completely neutral while being stared at by a fire demon. He walked behind her viewing her hair," A knee length braid?" He laughed," Vampires are funny creatures."
Hiei poked the long case with his finger," And this? What is it?"
"A sword," She answered in a deep voice.
"Hn, interesting. Let's have a look shall we?"
He unlatched it and flipped the top back. The hilt was metal and carved stone, wonderful craftsmanship, it looked hand made. The vampire made no move to stop him, nor did she protest verbally. While keeping his eye on her he slowly unsheathed it. The blade was one and a half feet long, with etched writing along the center. Hiei could speak and write fluently in their language so he read it out loud.
"Traitors of The High Blood Will Perish," He scowled, "This belongs to a Council member's assassin, what are *you* doing with it?"
He held the blade centimeters in front of her face," Answer me."
"I collect them."
"Oh ,really?," He sneered.
Hiei moved the blade to her neck, she didn't flinch, or even blink.
"Either you're scared so shitless you can't move, or this doesn't bother you. Either way you are hiding something."
He pressed it into her flesh until a dark trickle ran down the blade," I think you lied to me," He whispered into her ear.
"Who are you?"
"No one."
"Hn," He smiled," Aren't we the tough-as-nails bitch..."
He leaned in, ran his tongue up her cheek slowly, then stepped back and watched as anger rose into her eyes," A reaction finally, so we are not infallible after all."
"I must continue with the shipment line."
Hiei smirked," No you don't, there are 174 other guards, they don't really need you. We can just stay here and continue our little conversation, nothing to worry about."
He motioned for the long line to go around them. She made no move to escape, who ever this person was, she knew what she was doing.
"Vampire, tell me your name before I spill your blood all over the uniform."
The Vampire remained silent. Hiei growled.
"Do you think I am bluffing?," He hissed pressing harder down on the blade.
"My name is Morgan."
"Think again, little girl!"
Just as he drew the blade across she bent backwards and drew a second blade from her back. She threw it at him with ease. Hiei dodged it but was forced to move away from her and to the side. The Vampire snatched the sword from his hand and back flipped onto the merchandise load. It bobbed up and down from the impact.
He smirked," So you *are* one of the council member's assassin. Impressive."
Then he reached to his side and pulled his sword from the sheath," Let's see how good you are."
He charged her with lightning speed even for a demon, she held her footing when he slashed down and she used both the sword and dagger to hold him off. Her strength matched his, but her speed did not. The vampire jumped backwards off the mound and Hiei went to slash at her while still in the air. Just as he did, she vanished in a bright yellow light. Blinded momentarily by the glare, Hiei landed on the ground silently.
'Dammit' He Thought 'She had a portable barrier gate.'
When his vision cleared he searched the area for her.
"Shit," He hissed out loud.
'Pray I never meet you again assassin. I now know who you are.'
The fire demon turned and left into the gateway. Another guard had already taken the last of the merchandise through. He glanced back one more time and smiled, glad that he wasn't bored anymore.
~#~
The council waited for her arrival in the conference room. She had put the swords away but was still wearing the guard uniform.
"Saya..."
She stopped when her name was called. She knew the voice, it was her uncle. The third council member Alucard. The most feared of them all.
"Did you enjoy your battle with the demon, Saya...?" His voice echoed off the walls and in her head, but he was no where to be seen.
"Uncle, do you know his identity?," She asked.
"Yessss."
Her uncle appeared from the wall next to her. He simply walked out of it. One of the perks of being a Vampire of more than two thousand years of age was the ability to pass through solid objects.
"I know his name...Hiei."
"Hiei..."
She frowned," You knew he would be there, correct?"
Alucard grinned. He found it amusing to catch the younger vampire off guard and did it as often as possible.
He extended his arm out, gesturing down the hall," The council awaits you assassin..."
She didn't want to go, all they would do was make fun of her. It was their favorite pass time. Saya wondered if she would become an irritating know-it-all when she reached their age. She sighed and walked to the huge metal doors.
