Chapter Twelve

Seto Kaiba continued down the hall, ignoring the voices behind him. How Nakago and Naraku had managed to break out of their prison, he did not know but he would not allow them to have the girl sleeping in his arms. He hoped those two fools could keep his former partners distracted long enough for him to get to the car Mokuba would have waiting. As he walked, he plotted. After he returned the girl to her servants and she recovered from her ordeal, he would offer to marry her. He would get the company and she would be free to do as she wished. He would treat her well, she would want for nothing. If she chose to take others to her bed, she would be free to do that as well. "We have to get out of here first. The hanyou...he's coming closer."the street from Kaiba Corps, Kouga leaned against the hood of a silver jeep, using the long window of the store in front of him to keep a watchful eye on the comings and goings from the company. His long raven black hair was not in its traditional high ponytail in order to hide his pointed ears. Demons were no longer shunned by the humans but there were very few and he wished to keep a low profile. Inu Yasha sat in the passenger seat of the silver vehicle, arms folded across his chest, baseball cap pulled down over his eyes as he tried to get a little rest. The wolf demon and half-dog demon had been taking turns watching and sleeping for the last three days, though Kouga knew that his companion did not sleep. Neither of them did more than close their eyes and attempt to calm the raging storm of guilt and rage that everyone of Akari's protectors were feeling. The wolf sighed, so far they had seen nothing unusual coming or going from Kabia Corps, he was beginning to get very frustrated. A flash of blue in the window caught his eye. He leaned forward peering into the reflection, 'It can't be,' he thought, unable to believe what he was seeing. "What the fuck is Kagome doing here?"Riho and Yukina and Aya...what is Riho holding?" Kouga asked, standing on tip toe to see over the heads of the passersby. Akari," Inu Yasha breathed. The girls had reached a navy van, the side door opening as they approached. Riho quickly disappeared inside, followed by Yukina. Kagome started to climb in but Aya stopped her. Neither wolf nor dog could hear what Aya was saying but Kagome looked over her shoulder at Kaiba Corps, and then nodded. They did hear her tell the van to leave, as she and Aya turned and ran back into the building.


Yusuke was torn. Did he trust Seto, believe the man was taking Akari to safety or did he abandon the chance at revenge by going after him? Beside him, Amiboshi settled into a defensive stance. Yusuke turned in surprise as Seto strode around the corner, pushing past Yusuke to stand between him and Nakago. What was Seto doing back and where the hell was Akari? He was about to ask but Nakago had the same question on his mind. is the girl?"should know," Seto replied, offhandedly. A bolt of pure white light streaked through the tiny space between Seto and Yusuke. They watched in amazement as the light grazed Naraku's arm, dissolving it from the shoulder down. Naraku stared at the place where his arm had once been in shock. Mokuba was quick to take advantage of his sudden freedom and began to run towards his big brother. Nakago would not be so easily distracted, his hand darting out to catch a handful of the boy's long hair. He peered into the dim hallway beyond Yusuke and Seto.women were coming toward them, one pulling another arrow from the quiver on her back, notching it. "Let the boy go," she called.Seto cried.looked in confusion from Seto to Nakago to the girls and back again. Who the hell were these girls? Were they the ones who had taken Akari from Seto? If they were then they must be on his side. Nakago was the first to break the silence that had descended. "You will give me Akari."heard Kagome, let the boy go," the other girl replied.and take him."
"Very well then." Yusuke's eyes widened as the girls eyes began to glow, her hair lifted and moved as if a storm were raging in the air next to her skin. Her feet rose several inches from the floor. "I shall but you have been given your chance to surrender peacefully."
