Brotherly Love

Chapter One

A small boy sat still, perched comfortably on a branch high up in a tree, waiting. He wore strange clothes: a long, black robe-like shirt that fell off his shoulders, showing off white, creamy skin and fell to his feet. He wore a black sleeveless shirt as well as blue, skin-tight pants underneath. His small black shoes had metal chains that shone brightly in the moonlight. He also wore a thick, dog collar around his slender neck along with a rather large, pyramid shaped necklace. It was known as the Millennium Puzzle. He carried a brown book bag on his back, full of items that would tell anyone he was there to stay.

He was waiting for time to move, he knew that when it came, he'd be ready. The full moon shone brightly through a nearly cloudless sky. It was almost midnight, the witching hour. When the moon indicated midnight on the dot, he jumped down from the tree, landing smoothly on his feet on soft grass. He looked around. Another dark figure landed softly a few feet away from him, but Yugi shooed the other away quickly, not wanting him to be seen.

No humans were around. Yugi knew that there wouldn't be. He walked out of the forest and into a brightly lit city, looking repulsed. 'Stupid humans,' he thought, 'fools destroying their own world.' He stalked down the street under the light of the streetlamps, searching for someone. A cold breeze swept through the city, ruffling his long, tri-colored, spiky hair. Sensing a presence, he turned down a dark alley. He spotted a group of about six or seven human males. They were all very muscular and at least twice his size. They turned towards him.

"Well, well, well. Looky what we got here, boys, a new toy." One of the larger men laughed, looking Yugi up and down while licking his lips.

"Isn't he a pretty one?" Another sneered.

They approached him without fear. Circling around until they surrounded him completely, cutting off any means of escape. Yugi looked at each one in turn, sizing him up, then turning to the next. He sensed no real power among them, only brute strength. He didn't even flinch as the one to his left made a move to punch him. Yugi simply moved out of the way. 'There's no way it was one of these guys I sensed down here, there's someone else near…'

Yugi took the unnoticed sword from its hilt on his hip, going into a fighting stance, and preparing for a quick battle. He knew it wouldn't take long to take out these pathetic humans. The men looked at him funny when he took out the sword, but then each of them took out a weapon of their own: either broken glass, a knife, a tazer, a night stick, or just a plain old bat.

Just then, a young voice rang out through the alley before anyone had the chance to make a move.

"You guys better put those things away before I go tell your mommies what you've all been up to." A teenage boy walked out of the shadows, smoking a cigarette.

He had slick black hair and a devilish grin. He was wearing green get-up and black shoes. To anyone, he looked like an ordinary teen with an attitude problem; to Yugi he was a fighter with a strong aura.

"Stay outta this, kid, it don concern you." One of the men replied hotly.

"Oh, I think it does." Yusuke replied, knocking the man unconscious so fast the humans could barley see him. Yugi saw just fine.

Yugi, as if acting on a signal from the human boy, knocked out the nearest man with a quick swipe of his sword's hilt. The two began ceremoniously taking out the men, one by one. It didn't take long before they were the only ones left standing. Yugi didn't attack the human teen, but he didn't put his sword away, either.

"Who are you?" He asked crudely.

"The name's Yusuke Urameshi, Underworld Detective. And you are a demon trespassing in human territory. I'll need to see a pass." He stated in an official tone, almost mocking.

Koenma had issued a decree that no demon can walk among the humans without a compliance form, signed by Koenma, King Enma, or one of his advisors. Kurama and Hiei were the first demons to receive such a form. Any demon seen without a document gets sent straight back to the Underworld to receive his or her punishment. It was kind of like a citizenship document.

Yugi looked at him like he was crazy. He had no idea what the human was talking about. Putting away his sword, Yugi walked over to the detective and looked up at him curiously, blinking his wide lilac eyes.

'What's with this demon kid?' Yusuke thought, 'One minute he's fighting a battle against six guys, and the next he's got this weird little child look on his face.'

"If you don't have a form, I gotta send you back to Koenma." Yusuke replied, feeling almost guilty about it.

"W-what does it look like?" Yugi asked softly.
"Uhh, well…it's a small, blue sheet of paper-"

"I was given something as such before I left. Botan said…"

"You know Botan?" Yusuke interrupted.

"Y-yeah, she's the lady with the flying stick."

"Uh, yeah, you could say that." Yusuke replied, then asked, "What are you doing here? I can't just let you run around the human world, who knows what you might do." He thought for a second. "Let me see that thing she gave you."

The demon boy pulled what looked like a mini-suite case from his pocket and handed it over to Yusuke, it was the size of a large calculator. He sensed he could trust the human, after all, he smelled of good quality.

Yusuke took the case and attempted to open it, but noticed that there was a small combination lock on the side of it. 'No problem' he thought taking a hairpin out of his pocket. When he inserted it to open the box, he received a small shock, causing his hair to stand up on end. Yugi giggled.

Yusuke glared at him, causing Yugi to laugh even more. Smoothing his hair back down, he examined the container more closely and realized there was a small, but sharp green aura surrounding it. The box was locked with a spell, most likely done by Botan or Koenma. He decided that the best person for the job would be Kurama.

After explaining about the box, he and Yugi started towards Kurama's house.

"Who are we going to see about the box?" Yugi asked.

"Just a friend of mine. Before you ask, yes he's a demon, maybe you know him. By the way, you never answered my question: Why are you here?"

"I-I'm looking for someone. That's all."

"Human or demon?"

"Demon, obviously."

"Who?"

"You probably don't know him." Yugi replied cautiously, dodging the question.

Yusuke knew that it would be pointless to ask more questions, perceiving he wasn't getting any more answers. They walked over to Kurama's light blue house, knocked on the door, and waited. An older woman answered, smiling politely.
"My I help you?"

"She's the per-" Yusuke clamped a hand over Yugi's mouth, preventing him from finishing the sentence.

"Uh, hello, ma'am. Is your son here?" Yusuke asked courteously.

"Yes, why don't' you come in while I call him?" the strange pair stepped inside. "SHUICHI, YOU HAVE COMPANY." The woman had surprisingly powerful lungs.

A red-haired demon that looked about the age of an average high schooler came running down the stairs. When he spotted Yugi and Yusuke, he froze. Yugi's eyes locked with the fox demon's, for a moment, Yusuke was afraid the little one would attack. The boy ran over to Kurama and tackled him into a hug. Yusuke was now more confused then ever. Yugi wrapped his small arms around Kurama's neck and the red haired demon smiled, holding him close.

"Yugi! Long time no see! Shall we go upstairs? We have much catching up to do." Kurama looked over at his mother and she nodded, smiling at her son with a small boy in his arms.

Yusuke followed the pair up the stairs without a word; he was speechless. Once upstairs, Yugi made himself comfortable on Kurama's bed, bouncing up and down on it as he wished, wondering what it was made of. Kurama laughed at the sight, them turned his attention back to Yusuke, looking at him with a serious expression.

"Where did you find him?" Kurama asked.

"He was in an alley fighting with a bunch of drunken idiots. Why? Who is he?"

"I see…" Kurama knew that Yugi must be looking for Hiei, but he wasn't sure if the three-eyed demon wanted to be found. "His name is Yugi."

"I knew that much, but how do you know him?"

"He's… looking for Hiei."

"And where is Hiei?"

"I don't know, but I can get him to come here." Kurama walked over to Yugi, whispered in his ear then took the gold pyramid that the young demon wore on his neck and placed it on the windowsill with the window open. "He will be here when we awake tomorrow morning. I don't know what he would want you to know, so I will respect his privacy and not tell you who he is unless absolutely necessary. Understand?"

Yusuke was not a person to be told one way and be expected to do it. He had a natural tendency to argue, but today he was too curious to fight. Although, he decided one way or another, he would find out who the little demon was and what he wanted with Hiei. Yugi discontinued bouncing on the bed in exchange for looking around Kurama's bedroom with a curious expression on his face.

"Kurama, what this?" He asked inquisitively.

"Oh, that's a computer, Yugi. It's what the humans use to send and process information."

"Oh…can I try?"

"I suppose, but perhaps tomorrow, we should go to bed now." He replied. Yusuke just realized that Kurama was in his pajamas.

"Okay." Yugi removed the bag from his back and opened it, pulling out a pair of black cotton pajamas with icy blue stars on them. He quickly pulled off his black robe, revealing the slim blue pants and sleeveless black shirt underneath. It was not a common style where Yusuke was from. He watched as the boy stripped down to his boxers and put on the pajamas.

"I don't suppose you have pajamas with you, Yusuke." Kurama stated.

"No, but I don't wear them anyway." He replied taking off his shirt.

Yugi glanced at Kurama and Yusuke then went off to a small corner of the room, curling up against the wall with his bag under his head. The boy closed his eyes and fell asleep almost instantly. Afterwards, Kurama folded the blankets back from his bed then walked over to the sleeping demon. He lifted the boy from the floor and carried him to the bed bridal style, placing him against the soft sheets gently. Then he looked at Yusuke.

"Where will you sleep?"

"It doesn't matter." He replied.

"Alright, I'm sleeping beside Yugi in the bed. If you want, you can lay the comfy chair back and sleep on that."

"Fine with me." Yusuke walked over to the chair and pulled the lever on the side of it, effectively making the back of it fall backwards. He laid down on it and got cozy. Kurama walked over to him and covered Yusuke with a blanket then slipped under the covers beside Yugi. The boy cuddled reflexively with Kurama, curling up beside him on the bed.

Hiei was walking about in the forest when he felt the presence of the Millennium Puzzle, a medallion he had given his one and only stepbrother. When Hiei was little, his father and mother had gotten divorced. His father, Herat, remarried another named Kari, who already had a small son of her own named Yugi. Eventually Kari regretted their marriage since Herat had taken to beating her and her son regularly. Herat had despised the smaller boy, who was not nearly as strong as his blood son, Hiei. He even taught the three-eyed demon to hate his stepmother and brother. Although it wasn't totally effective.

Seeing no other option, Kari, with Yugi, fled and raised her son on the demon plane, making sure that he would never get to see his stepfather or stepbrother. Although, Yugi visited his stepbrother on a regular bases, that is, until Hiei got in trouble with the law and became a fugitive. Yugi and Hiei had gotten along really well, making sure no one would ever find out that the two had met. The black-haired demon wondered to how in hell Yugi had gotten to the human world and why.

He followed the medallion as if it had a homing device, searching the city until he recognized the area it came from, Kurama's house. Once he arrived at the red-haired fox demon's home, he crept into the bedroom window to find Yusuke, Yugi, and Kurama sleeping soundly in the room. He walked over to his stepbrother and shook him lightly, waking the boy from his peaceful slumber.

"Huh?" Yugi asked drowsily. Still as young and innocent as ever, Hiei thought neutrally.

"Yugi, it's me. Let's go, I understand that Kurama and Yusuke will want to know where you went after this so you should leave them a message."

"Okay, Hiei." Yugi stood up, grabbed his bag, then dressed back into his regular cloths. He reached into his bag and found a pad of paper and pen, then jotted down a brief note for the pair.

Yusuke and Kurama~

Hiei came and got me while you were asleep, so don't worry, I didn't run off. I'm leaving the case here since I know you want to open it. Botan asked me to give it to you anyway. Well, I hope to see you guys later! Maybe you can show me your village here? Please?

Your Friend,
~Yugi…..

With that, he placed the note on Kurama's desk and fled out the window in his black garments, following Hiei. They traveled to the forest where Hiei usually stayed and as soon as they arrived, the evil three-eyed demon spun around to face his stepbrother and wrapped his arms around the boy in a tight hug, which was returned enthusiastically.

"I've missed you Hiei." Yugi said into the other's shirt.

"I've missed you too, Yugi." He pulled away and held the other out at arm's length, then sat, bringing the boy onto his lap, "Now tell me why you're here and how you managed to do it."

"Mother's dead. She was killed walking down the street near our apartment. It's gotten really bad down there, Hiei."
**FLASHBACK**

Yugi watched out the window for his mother as she walked back home from her new boyfriend's house. This weeks' demon was named Keith and was a real jerk. He made a point of beating Yugi every time he came over, as did most of her other boyfriends. His mother instructed that Yugi was not to defend himself from them in any way. If he did, he was met with the punishment of being locked in the bathroom for a few weeks, or they'd just beat his mother. He'd gotten numb to where he didn't feel the results of the beatings until later.

He looked up and saw his mother running in his direction. Keith was chasing her, but soon caught up to her, grabbed her by her hair, and started screaming at her. Yugi ran out of the apartment, trying to get to Keith and his mother before it was too late. He was well aware that no demon cared about the life of another, especially when the life was that of his mother's.

He ran down the street to find Keith standing over his mother with a sword gripped in his scaly fingers, laughing as he plunged it into Yugi's mother's flesh repeatedly. He ran over to them as fast as he could, not wanting to admit that it was too late for her, that his mother was already dead. Keith looked up at the little demon as he raced to his mother's empty body, dropping to his knees and sobbing while holding her in his petite arms. Keith sneered at the boy, knowing that he'd just killed the only person left in his life.

"W-why? S-she loved y-you!" Yugi asked through the tears that flowed down his pale cheeks.

"She was costing me too much money, runt. All she wanted was the drugs and I wasn't about to give it to her just for a little sex." Keith laughed as Yugi stood up and unsheathed his sword, "Just try it, twurp, you couldn't even begin to measure up to my power."

Yugi looked at the sword in his hand, then up at the demon before him. His own mother had just been murdered in cold blood before his very eyes by the demon in front of him, his choices were to walk away unscathed or die in combat with Keith. The demon did not lie when he said his power was greater then Yugi's. It was too much for the little demon to handle. He reached down and lifted his mother's body off the pavement that was sticky with her wet blood and walked home, ignoring the growing sensation of hatred he felt in the pit of his stomach for the laughing demon that murdered her. He knew that she hadn't been a good mother, but she was better then most.

Most demon mother's abandoned their young as soon as they are born, sending them to grow up hopelessly in demon foster care. She was the only mother that he knew of who had actually married the father of her child at one point. The unity lasted only until Yugi was nearly five years old, then they were divorced. The demon boy didn't even know the name of his father or that he had a stepbrother until he and Hiei met by accident on the streets of the demon world.

The taller had instantly recognized the smaller boy from when they were younger and told him everything Yugi didn't remember. They'd grown to meeting each other at the same time and place everyday. They continued for years until Hiei got into trouble with the law. Kurama was introduced to Yugi not long after, it seems that they were in on it together. They'd gotten along really well, then the fox demon and the three-eyed demon disappeared.

When Koenma heard of the brutal murder of a demon woman with child he didn't think anything of it at first, after all, murder was as common as breathing in the demon world. That was when his father, King Enma, heard of it and sent a scout to Yugi's apartment, knowing that they would be a newly orphaned demon boy waiting to be taken away. He was there for years before a relative was found. Eventually, after a great deal of digging, they were surprised to find certificates naming one Hiei of the Evil Eye as the boy's stepbrother.

It was widely know that Hiei was a notorious thief was put under probation long ago, but was now doing work with their very own Spirit Detective, Yusuke Urameshi. King Enma decided that the little demon would be sent to live with his brother, making Hiei responsible for the small demon they'd found covered with his mother's blood, embracing her dead body in his petite arms so many years ago. Koenma was to send the boy to the human world where he would find his stepbrother and live with him. A few years later, once the paper work was straitened out, Botan was instructed to drop him off on the outskirts of the city to search for Hiei, along with a small suitcase, which would only be opened by Kurama.

**END FLASHBACK*
~~ ^_^ ~~

"That's pretty much it." Yugi said to Hiei. "Now what?"

"I guess this means you're living with me now, Yugi."

"C-can I call you my stepbrother here?" Yugi asked shyly.

"I'm sorry, no one must know. I have enemies here and they would no doubt go after you if they thought there was a way to get to me through you."
"…I-I could become your student again…" Back in the Underworld, Hiei used the excuse of having Yugi as his pupil to see him everyday. He even had Yugi's mother paying him for it, very cheaply, of course.

Hiei looked around briefly and decided that having Yugi as his student again would work out just fine, so long as no one knows that they are really stepbrothers. What he wanted to know was how much the little demon had told Yusuke and Kurama. He knew that Kurama knew about it, but did he know that Hiei was now the demon boy would be living with him? Probably not, but it was better to know for sure.

"How much did you tell Yusuke?"

"He knows my name and that I was looking for you. Nothing else."

"Good." Hiei replied. "Now, I don't have a 'house' per say, but there is an abandoned apartment building nearby that I've stayed in for short periods of time. You may reside there until I say otherwise."

"I want to explore this human world, Hiei. I can't stay in one place like that."

"No. There is no grantee that you will understand the way things work here. If you go into the city and start killing humans, I'll be the one to get in trouble with Koenma, and that's the last thing I need right now."

"What if I can get someone to go with me? What about Kurama? Or Yusuke? If one of them will go with me, can I go?"

"…Fine, but only if one of them goes with you." Hiei sighed, "I've only seen you for a few minutes and you're already giving me a head ache."

"Heh, like anything I say can penetrate that hard head of yours." Yugi joked, then dodged a swipe at his head from Hiei. They laughed after that.

"I have to go out for something later on tonight, do you want me to see if Yusuke or Kurama will watch you?"

"Yes please."

"Mannerism will get you nowhere."

"Oh yes they will, as long as I promise to be a good little demon for the nice human boys in funny clothes." Yugi promised.

"Don't be like that, dear little monster, now if you want to ask one of them to watch you, then go do it. I don't have time to hang around here all night. In fact, I should've just left you there." Hiei marveled, "Too late for that now, and it'll take until dawn to get you back there again."

"I can go by myself." Yugi replied, "I remember where it is."

"Fine, but you are to go straight there, no where else." Hiei said strictly. "No where else, promise me."

"…Can't I stop at the-"

"No."

"What about—"

"No."

"Not even the-"

"No!"

"You're no fun." Yugi pouted. Hiei laughed a bit.

"If you think I'm no fun now, wait until we start your training."

"Fine, I promise."

"Promise what?"

"I promise to go straight to Kurama's house." Yugi replied earnestly, knowing that he couldn't get away with doing anything else anyway.

"Good. I'll come pick you up there, or from wherever tomorrow. I'm sure he'll let you stay the night without any fuss."

"Okay, bye Hiei!" Yugi flashed a smile.

"Bye, Yugi." He answered back, "and stay out of trouble." With that, the black-haired demon vanished.

Yugi laughed slightly at his stepbrother's attempt to control him, but a promise was a promise. He then walked towards the city where all the humans were bustling about doing who knows what. Socializing may be the term, but to Yugi, they were behaving very oddly. Many people stopped what they were doing to stare at the little boy in black as he gaped at everything as if he'd never seen them before. There was one place he passed by where music was being pumped out loudly, in hopes of getting someone to buy something from them. Yugi just smiled and walked by, hoping that Yusuke or Kurama would be willing to take him back to that place.

Once he arrived at the little house he recognized as Kurama's, Yugi jumped up to the second story window of the fox demon's bedroom and attempted to open it. The red-haired demon was clicking away at his computer while Yusuke slept in the chair, snoring loudly. When the small demon tapped on the window, Kurama looked up in surprise then opened it to allow him entrance. Stepping inside, Yugi looked around and spotted the human on the chair. Smirking evilly, he walked over to him. Kurama simply went back to his computer and pretended not to notice what was about to happen.

The little demon prodded the human to try and wake him up, but only got a weird snore/ grunt in return. Nodding to himself, the boy backed up a few steps and took a running jump right onto the human's lap. Yusuke awoke with a yelp, assuming they were under some sort of attack.

"What the hell!?" the human started.

"Good morning Yusuke!" Yugi shouted happily from his position straddling the human's waist. The shirtless teen simply looked at the little demon in shock. "Wanna go outside?"

"Huh? Hey! Get off of me!" Yugi shook his head, his spiky hair bouncing around cutely, his amethyst eyes alight with excitement.

"No, I don't think I will." He giggled. Kurama couldn't manage to hide a smile.

"Hey, Kurama, little help?"

"Uh, sorry Yusuke, I'm busy with something." He scrambled to look like he was doing something important, but then a goofy cartoon popped up on the computer screen and started singing the Pokémon theme song.

"Oh yeah, you look like you got loads of work to do." Yusuke replied sarcastically as the fox demon sweat-dropped and laughed nervously.

"K-Kurama, Hiei said you and Yusuke would show me a-around this world, or at least one of you guys." Yugi informed them, "P-please?"

"No way." Yusuke stated instantly. Yugi knew what to do.

"P-please?" He sank down in the humans lap a bit so he was pressed against the taller's chest, looking up at Yusuke with a pouty expression his face, then preceded to put on his puppy-dog eyes to make himself cuter.

"…" The green clad human didn't reply right away and stared at the boy's pleading eyes for a moment.

"The trick is not to look." Kurama informed him without looking over, still typing away. Instantly Yusuke looked away from the small teen. Yugi pouted again.

"W-why'd you tell him that?"

"I happen to know full well what it's like to be on the receiving end of those gorgeous eyes of yours. I had to give him something to work with, besides, this will give you a better challenge." The red-haired demon answered. Yugi smiled sweetly.

"W-will you please take m-me to see your human city?" This time the petite boy snuggled closer to the human, nuzzling his neck adoringly. Yusuke looked down at him surprised. Yugi took the opportunity to try the cute face again, his long eyelashes kissing his cheeks lightly, making his deep eyes stand out even more. This time, it worked.

"Fine." The teenaged human replied with a sigh. "But you have to do whatever I say. No running off or anything like that."

"O-okay!" Yugi answered. "T-thank you." He then hugged the taller tightly around the middle.

"Okay, okay, just let me go." The lavender-eyed teen did so and stood, waiting patiently for the other.

Yusuke soon found himself wandering around town with the little demon at his heels, peering around at everything and asking loads of questions. He wasn't sure why he had agreed to this, but he certainly regretted it, especially when he spotted Kuwabara walking towards him in a hurry. Kuwabara was a thick redhead with an attitude problem and gumption to win against Yusuke in a fight. They became really close friends after a while, constantly helping each other out, but Yusuke really didn't feel like talking to anyone right then, that is until he came up with idea of getting his tall friend to take Yugi off his hands.

"Hey Kuwabara, how are you?" Yusuke asked. The redhead grunted 'Fine' and started to walk past them, but stopped and turned around.

"Hey, Yusuke, who's that?"

"Oh, this is Yugi, Yugi, meet my friend Kuwabara." The black-haired boy introduced.

"H-hi." Yugi greeted, looking down shyly. A rather large hand patted him politely on the head.

"Hey, Urameshi, you know who he looks like? Hiei. They could pass as brothers." He stated. Yugi froze.

"Yeah, I noticed that too, in fact, this shorty here was looking for Hiei earlier." Yusuke answered. "Hey, Yugi, are you and Hiei brothers?"

"…Ummm…w-well…h-he and I-I are, uh—" He wasn't really sure how to reply to that.

"I knew it!" Kuwabara shouted, then started to count off similarities. "You're both shrimps, both have black, spiky hair, and you both wear that same weird outfit. His doesn't have the jewelry or leather, though."

"Wait! H-he's not my brother!" Yugi explained rapidly, knowing Hiei wouldn't appreciate them knowing anything remotely close to the truth, besides, technically, he wasn't lying.

"Well, is he your father then?" Yusuke asked. "I mean, he seems a little young to have a kid your age, but still…is he?"

"N-no!" Yugi answered getting exasperated. They were teaming up against him and he knew it.

"Well, then who's he to you?" Kuwabara retorted. Yugi could tell they were starting to become angry. "You're cousin?"

"H-he's…he's my boyfriend." Yugi practically shouted in frustration, then immediately covered his mouth with both hands, eyes wide. Yusuke and Kuwabara's mouths dropped open in shock.

"WHAT!" They bellowed together.

"Y-you heard m-me." He stuttered with resolution.

"No way! Hiei's not gay." Yusuke argues, then thought for a moment. The demon never seemed interested in woman, but on the other hand, he didn't really show interest in anyone.

"Y-you don't know that." Came huffy reply from Yugi, who crossed his arms.

"Fine, then prove it." Yusuke retorted with a smirk.

"P-prove…h-how?" Yugi asked, the statement catching him off guard.

"Kiss him, of course." Kuwabara answered as if it was most obvious. The hikari's mouth dropped open, almost as theirs had done.
"And we're not talking about those little friendly kisses. We need to see some tongue to believe this." The teen clad in green added, still sniping. Yugi sighed.

"W-well, h-he's not here, now, is he?" Yugi retorted haughtily.

"Then let's go find him." Yusuke suggested, forgetting his plan to ditch the small demon. Both the jr. high humans grabbed each of Yugi's hands and began walking down the sidewalk, in search of a certain three-eyed demon named Hiei.

Kurama sighed as he sat at his computer after Yusuke and Yugi left, he had been trying to find the code to opening the case. He had broken the aura that surrounded it only to find a digital code blocking the next set of locks. On top of that, the place where the code was being kept in the program was protected by numerous firewalls. It was rather exhausting. There was no way Botan had created this sort of thing herself. It could've been Koenma, but it was doubtful. Sighing again, Kurama decided to go for a short walk to clear his head. Maybe when he returned it would be a little easier to figure things out.

On his way out the door, Kurama grabbed his jacket and told his mother he was leaving, and then proceeded downtown, where he was sure Yusuke and Yugi were. The little demon boy seemed to be very interested in going there; he just hoped Yugi hadn't given away too much about Hiei. He looked around as he walked, hoping to spot the black-haired teenager and the small hikari before they got themselves into too much trouble. When he did happen upon them, Kuwabara and Yusuke were each holding on of Yugi's hands, practically dragging the boy down the sidewalk. He immediately stopped them, asking where they were going.

"We're going to find Hiei." Kuwabara informed the red-haired demon. Yugi looked down sheepishly, knowing Kurama was going to find out what happened.

"Why? I thought Yugi already talked to him." He shot the little demon a look.

"Kuwabara and I were trying to find out why Yugi was looking for Hiei, but the kid wouldn't talk. Kuwabara thinks they're brothers, and I think he's Hiei's son. Well, Yugi here claims that Hiei is, get this, his boyfriend." Yusuke laughed, then stopped at Kurama's serious expression.

"What's so funny about that?" He asked, his face revealing nothing.

"Well, come one, Kurama, this is Hiei we're talkin' about here." Kuwabara stated, then added, "Besides, I'm not going to believe it unless I see it, so if Hiei's really Yugi's boyfriend, we'd better see some serious lip-locking going on."

"The I guess we best be finding him then." Kurama replied, shocking all three of them. Yugi had been hoping the fox demon would've helped him out of the situation, not make it worse. Nonetheless, the four then continued walking onward. All the while, Kurama had opened his mind, attempting to contact his shorter friend and tell him what was going on. It wasn't long before the shorter demon tapped into his thoughts to find out what was going on.

"So, what has Yugi gotten himself into this time?" Hiei asked once he'd gotten a hold of Kurama.

"Well, rather then telling Yusuke and Kuwabara the real reason he's here, Yugi ended up telling them the two of you are dating." He waited for the information to process, then…

"WHAT?"

"It is better then the truth, don't you think? Besides, they were getting on his case pretty bad, Hiei. Oh, and Kuwabara and Yusuke are looking for you." He could practically feel the anger radiating off the other. "They want you to confirm what he said through a kiss."

"…Fine. I'll be there in a minute."

Kurama smiled to himself, knowing it wouldn't take long for the three-eyed demon to find him, and he was right. This was going to be interesting to say the least. Hiei appeared right in front of them, pretending he only showed up because he came to get Yugi for something. Almost immediately, Yusuke and Kuwabara bombarded the black-haired demon with questions regarding his and Yugi's relationship. Then they started to goad Yugi into kissing the other.

"Go on, Yugi, just like you said." Yusuke taunted, letting go of the boy's hand.

"Yeah, get moving." Kuwabara added, doing the same.

Yugi just looked down, hiding his eyes under his golden bangs, blushing hotly. Hiei ignored the duo and strutted over to the little one, tilting the small demon's chin with long fingers and running his thumb over the boy's soft cheek. Yusuke and Kuwabara stopped laughing and were now watching intently, wondering exactly what the three-eyed demon was doing. Kurama just stood disinterested.

"Hey cutie." Hiei greeted with an uncharacteristic smile, shocking the human duo as he wrapped a possessive arm around the boy's waist, pulling them together. Yugi blushed characteristically and smiled softly. The taller demon then leaned down and pressed their lips together, running his tongue over the boy's mouth, asking for entrance. The kiss deepened dramatically as a strong arm found it's way around the back of the hikari's neck, pressing them closer together. They pulled apart slowly, Yugi laying his head on the taller's chest. Hiei wrapped his arms around the smaller instinctively.

"W-what-" Yusuke stammered, unable to fathom the idea of Hiei and Yugi being together like that.
"What?" Hiei ground out, glaring at the taller teen. "You got a problem?" he turned his icy glower towards Kuwabara.

"No, none."

"Why didn't you tell us you were gay?" Yusuke questioned, thinking of the few times they had gotten undressed in front of the short demon.

"First off, it's none of your business, and second, don't worry, I'm not interested in you." Hiei said it in such a way that made Yusuke think he should've been insulted the smaller demon didn't find him attractive. He decided against saying something about it though, since he didn't want the small demon to get any ideas about Yusuke. "Come along, koi. We have a few places to go. Feel free to tag along, Kurama."

Yugi looked back at the two humans standing there with dumb expressions on their face and giggled, not able to help himself. He turned to Kurama, asking with his expression that the red-haired demon come along with them. He smiled and nodded. Yusuke and Kurama were left standing alone until steam shot from their ears in anger, realizing they'd just been made fools of.

Kurama smiled at the sight of his best friend kissing another demon like that, even if he was just pretending, and was really kissing his stepbrother. At least he was doing something. He looked back at the only two humans in their group; their jaws were practically touching the ground where they stood. It was a rather interesting sight. He was sure the little amethyst-eyed demon was already dating another. At least he'd heard Yugi was going with another demon named Yami, but that could've been just rumors. Kurama was sure Hiei knew about the gossip too.

As soon as they had gotten far enough away from the pair, Kurama turned to the three-eyed demon and the violet-eyed one, then asked what they were going to do when Yugi's real boyfriend showed up. It was a wild guess, but the fox demon turned out to be right.

"Yami will understand for now, but he won't like it." Yugi replied, then looked over at Hiei. "Besides, we can always 'break up'."

"I know." Hiei answered, "But that doesn't really matter. What I want to know is who this Yami character is." Kurama chuckled at the shorter's obvious concern.

"W-well, he's a demon…" Yugi trailed off, not really wanting to describe his real boyfriend to his stepbrother.

"I figures as much, and…?"

"And he's about a head taller then me, and looks like me a bit. I-I mean we have nearly the same hairstyle."
