Ch. 1: Just Plain Ordinary. Hn Yeah Right.
A licking sensation could be felt on a raven-haired beauty’s cheekbone. With a small giggle the young teenager pushes away a red/orange fur ball. Once the girl opened her eyes, they shine as bright as rubies meeting the morning sun’s rays. The old tree outside her bedroom window caused leave silhouettes to appear on her cream skin. With a giant sleepy yawn, she sits up and stretches her well-built (yet feminine) arms above her non-pillow head.
“Ohayo, Blaze.” Shina greets the tiny fox, straining back a yawn. Blaze mews a ‘Hello’ back to her. Placing her hands back in her lap and lean against the headboard of the bed, looking out of what she could see of the backyard.
Blaze snaps her out of her daydream state by nudging her in the stomach with his head. Looking down at him, Shina sees Blaze’s big green gentle eyes. Giving him a kind-hearted smile, she pets him for a while.
Picking him she places him on her windowsill, so she doesn’t hurt him when she swings her legs over the side of her bed.
Shina’s bare feet meet the carpeted floor beneath. She wriggles her toes to get the nice feeling between them. Giving off a sigh she stands up and walks over to her dark wood closet. Beings how Blaze knows the routine; he jumps off the windowsill, the bed, and walks out of the room.
Shina strips down and out of her ruffled light blue PJs, puts on a clean set of undergarments, and the school uniform. Her school outfit was a tad different from the other girls, true she does wear it but she changed it a little so she could feel comfortable. Instead of the neo red-like color, she has a dark maroon and dark red (both with black socks, trimming, etc.) shirt and skirt. Looking at the full-body black-trimmed length mirror she sighs wondering what the female population at school will do to her today.
Once she and Blaze are outside, Blaze transforms into his battle form ready for the flight to Meiou High School; because it was spring, she doesn’t have to walk to school. Blaze crouches on the ground so Shina can get on his back. When his paws and the end his three tails seem to catch on fire, Blaze takes off to Meiou High School. The ride there has a somewhat peaceful air; the morning wind going through her raven hair, above the treetops, and looking down at the little human ants. Her ruby eyes harden into a glare once you see a very familiar building: ‘Meiou High School’.
Shina jumps off of Blaze, when he landed on the roof, with her school bag at hand. “Blaze, stay hidden.” she orders. “I’ll be back during lunch break and you can pick me up after school, like usually, alright?” Blaze gives her a stern nod of his red and orange head. When Blaze takes off - to wherever it is he takes off to – Shina walks down the stairs to your homeroom.
Once she enters she hears many whispers; Shina knows that they’re about her, but she doesn’t give a rat’s ass on what they say. All of it is just a lie, like the tabloids in Hollywood. Sitting down just in time her homeroom teacher comes in to take attendance, and give the morning speech. Once they were done and over with, she brings out a small ice blue book. This book is on things of the supernatural. Shina sighs losing interest in the book, for she read many times before.
Closing the supernatural book, Shina rests her face in her right hand and gaze out the window. No soon after do two yellow birds fly and land on the outside windowsill. Her face gains a very small smile looking at the chirping birds. When the bell sounds it causes the birds to fly away at the sudden noise. A heavy sigh escapes her mouth, getting up and out of her seat she trudges off to her science class.
‘Luckily’ no one talks to her, so she can make it to classes on time. Once Shina enters the science lab she places herself in her normal seat, next the window, and starts to daydream. One thought lead to another and she begins to paint images in her head. Most of these thoughts consist of Blaze in, both, forms, landscape, black and white ‘photographs’, and mythical animals.
“Miss Noriko!!” Snapping out of her daydream, she glances up at the white marker board. Letting the strict teacher know that he has her attention. “Now that you’re here with us, Miss Noriko, how did we obtain the Moon?”
Shina gives him a heavy sigh but answer the easy question nonetheless.
“There is no real way to answer that, Teach. But there is one favored hypothesis. When the earth was still just a molten piece of rock something ‘collided’ with it and broke off some of the molten lava. The scientists think that is also the reason why the Pacific is deeper than the Atlantic.”
Shina took sense that her science teacher was nearly going to break the black marker in two.
Maybe it has to do with me out smarting him, again. She gives him a victory smirk, showing him that she can answer any question thrown at her. But her smirk diminishes when she sees ‘teach’ smirks back, causing Shina to raise an eyebrow in curiosity.
“Well, students, you all can thank Miss Noriko for your extra homework tonight seeing how you all pay attention.” There is a song of groans erupting from the students’ throats, but Shina just rolls her ruby eyes. Why make the whole class suffer for her misdeed?
Come time for lunch she is bombarded with homework, as well as some of her schoolmates. On the roof’s top Shina eats the lunch she made for herself: takoyaki, one taiyaki, yakitori, six onigiri, two apple juice, and two honey cakes. Blaze is curled up in a ball by her right thigh - chibi form, too. Because it’s just the two of them, Shina sits Indian style allowing the crumbs to be captured by the maroon skirt covering her.
Blaze jumps to his tiny red paws and growls while baring his tiny kitsune fangs. “Blaze, what is it?” He did not answer, but continues his protective actions. Shina gets up from sitting in the shadow of the stairway leading up to here. When she stands tall is when you sense something coming this way.
The brown door bursts open then slams shut. Hearing deep panting Shina pokes her head around to see the heartthrob of the school: Shuichi Minamino. “Lost them…” he was able to pant out.
“Lost whom, Minamino?” she comes out of hiding with a glare on her face. Minamino slightly jumps at the sound of her cool, emotionless voice and scratches the back of his head. “Let me guess, your fan club and the devil’s daughter, Yui. Hm?” Minamino stops and nods his head.
“Don’t tell anyone that I’m here, please.”
“Whatever.” Shina rolls her eyes at his plea. “There going to find you eventually, you know?” Minamino nods slowly with a heavy sigh.
Knowing that Blaze had flown off somewhere she heads back towards her spot. Sitting down on her knees and continue to eat her much needed lunch. She glances over to her right she sees Minamino looking at her with curiosity. “Hai?”
“Shina-san, is it alright if I sit up here with you until our next class?” he suddenly asks. She glares up at him, stunning him in the process.
“Look, Minamino, if this is some kind of trick, you better run now. For, I will not be humiliated by some guy who looks like he should enter a beauty penchant!”
Minamino’s green eyes widen in shock. He wasn’t expecting this from Shina Noriko, she always seems so calm and collected… even when she knows that the students are talking about her. But his eyes soon soften and a smile graces his features.
“Shina-san, I would never dream of humiliating you. And do you know why?” Her ruby eyes glare harder, refusing to answer the question. Minamino lets out an amused chuckle before continuing. “It is because; you are a very kind person beneath your perfect armor. The others may not be able to see that, but I do, Shina-san.”
Shina’s cheekbones gain an invisible blush to them. “Hn,” she turns her head away from the popular redhead, her blush slowly increasing. She isn’t the type of person to blush so easily, nor is she the type of person to receive such sincere complements.
“Shina-san?” she turns her head slightly, only showing one ruby eye to Minamino. “Is it alright, if I sit with you? Hehe, I don’t really feel strong enough going back down there.”
“Hn. Do as you wish, Minamino.” Shina takes a bite out of her taiyaki. Minamino sits down next to her; his left leg stretched out the right is bent up and his arm resting on it.
“Do you come up here often, Shina-san?” she gives him a slight not, not wanting to talk to him, and continue to eat the lunch you made. Shina hears a rumbling sound coming from where the popular redhead is sitting.
She looks over at him with an arched eyebrow. Even though he kept his facial features indifferent, a light blush slowly makes it across his nose. Shina lets out any amused chuckle and shakes her head slightly.
“Here.” she hands him one of her onigiri and places the wooden food container in-between the both of them; shocking Minamino. “Do you want it, or not?” she snaps at him.
“Uhh… hai, arigatou!” He takes it quickly and eats it like a gentleman.
Lunch is almost over now and Shina and Minamino sat quietly sharing her lunch. And that’s rare considering that she’s a ‘Demon Child’.
“Thank-you again, Shina-san. I was in a hurry to get to school I forgot to bring my lunch.” Minamino gave Shina a very attractive smile. Though her face stays emotionless, her eyes shine with gratitude.
“No problem, Minamino.” Shina shrugs her shoulders and begin to walk down the steps, towards her next class.
Inside the History room, the students are taking notes rather fast, while Shina just sit and listens. Her blood colored eyes read what’s on the white maker broad, for she already has to suffer with countless books, she doesn’t need to carry notes with you.
Shuichi Minamino is swiftly and fluidly taking the notes on the broad, onto his notebook. His emerald eyes look over at the school’s ‘Demon Child’, Shina Noriko. She acts nothing like a demon. True she’s a bit defensive, but she has to be seeing how people here are so rude to her. They call her Demon Child because of her eye color, a rather silly reason.
Shaking his head slightly he goes back to taking notes on World War 2.
School is now over, Shina and her classmates have homework to last them the entire year thanks to her.
Flying over the city Shina looks down at the city’s busy streets, the parks, different sized buildings, and the people. She and Blaze are to far up in the clear sky to be noticed by them, only the birds know and anything that can fly (minus planes and such).
Softly landing on the green grassy lawn, Blaze’s fire diminishes and he goes back into his normal looking fox state. Walking in the front door Shina drops her school bag, creating a rather loud ‘thump’. Collapsing on the comfortable couch she lets out a blissful sigh as Blaze walks on her sore back.
“Arigatou, Blaze.” Shina hums out. “This is what I need after a long day of hell…”
“But, what about the guy ummm… Shuichi Minamino?” Blaze asks.
She let out a stressed sigh. “Blaze, Minamino… I don’t know.” Shina folds her slim arms under her chin, while Blaze still gingerly walks on her back. “He’s so confusing. For up to two weeks, or even a month, he’s gone and when he comes back its like he never missed a day. He practically has the whole female population after him, the guys envy him for that, and the teachers adore him for his school actives.” Shina blows a few strands of her black hair out of her face. “Guys are confusing…” the sandman visits her eyes, and she closes her eyes for sleep.
+Dream Mode+
The harsh cold wind blows, allowing Shina’s long raven hair to dance with the breeze and her blue fighting outfit.
The different shades of blue mix almost perfectly with the falling snow. The rather long sleeves blow with her hair and the ends of her outfit (that where split up to her hips) moved, too. The white loose pants, wanting to fly like the rest, beat against her legs. Shina gives the wind a loving sigh, making her breath be seen, rising her head up and closing her eyes.
Little to no snowflakes fall on her face gently due to the wind. Bringing her head down she glares at the wind. But as soon as she does the wind stops; smirking at the baby blue barrier that she created she freezes her arm, creating a sword of ice.
The barrier drops and demons come out of hiding, and begin to attack the newly found ice maiden. Slicing each and every demon that comes her way, Shina Noriko comes stronger minded. Not wanting someone to read her thoughts and dreams, also a good way to blow of steam… kind of.
Panting heavily, Shina allows the ice-arm-katanas to melt. She looks over the dead demons with a glare, but then sighs closing her eyes. “This will the closest I get to killing a demon.”
Her ruby eyes snap open, sensing that someone is inside her dream training. Quickly looking at one of the white trees she sees something that looked like it jumped/flew away.
Using her ice maiden abilities, she creates an ice path up to the tree’s branch. Once up to the branch she sees and senses nothing. “How odd…?” Her ruby eyes glare out into the raging snowstorm, in which is her dream.
The hearing of a ringing makes Shina grasp her head. “Time to wake-up…” she mumbles with a pained expression.
+End Dream (Shuichi/Kurama’s POV)+
I walk out of the school building with a heavy sigh with me being in all of Shina-san’s classes I have enough schoolwork to last me a human lifetime. Thankfully, I should be done all of this by midnight. I move my school briefcase over my left shoulder.
“Hey, Kurama!!” Yusuke’s hand slaps on right shoulder.
“Hello, Yusuke.” I give the juvenile a smile.
Yusuke, Kuwabara, and I begin to walk towards my home. “Hey, where is hamster legs?” Kuwabara voice rings. I look around, and it’s true. Hiei is nowhere to be found, in this area.
“Well, I’m not lookin’ for him.” Yusuke replies, placing his hands behind his head. I sigh and head towards in a different direction, more specifically the park. “Kurama! Where are you going?” shouts Yusuke.
“To go look for Hiei.” I reply. Hearing them groan and then their footsteps coming near me I couldn’t help but give a small smile.
“Hiei? … Hiei!! … SHORTY!!!”
We’re all currently looking for the small fire apparition is one of the parks. Kuwabara and Yusuke are shouting his name (and his ‘nicknames’), while I look up the countless trees using my mind to call him.
“Nani?” Hiei’s voice rang out in my mind.
“Hiei, where are you?” I move my emerald eyes this way and that.
“Look up.”
I do, looking up at the tree I already investigated I see Hiei sitting on one of the trees thick branches. I shake my head not bothering to ask a question.
Sitting near the tree’s trunk I’m about get busy on my school’s work when Kuwabara yells that he found something. I stand up – briefcase in hand – and calmly walk towards them, Hiei following pursuit.
Walking up to the two teens I see that they’re tugging something back and forth.
“I found it Urameshi!!” shouts Kuwabara, his foot on Yusuke’s chest and tugs.
“You don’t even know what it is!” Yusuke’s foot is on Kuwabara chest and tugs to him.
“Well what ever it is you two it will break it.” All I see is a thin silver chain; it looks to be a necklace of some sort. The two soon stop and show what they found both of them not letting go of it.
My eyes slowly widen. On the very end of the chain is a gem, but not just any gem… a tear gem. The light blue and white jewel is connected is a small half circle attachment, so no drill (or some sort) would have to ruin the perfect crystal.
In the blink of an eye, Hiei has hold of the tear gem. “HEY!!” Kuwabara sounds. Though he quiets once he sees the warning glare of the Forbidden Child. Hiei holds up to his eye level the rare gem showing his reflection; clearly this is really well cared for.
I step to Hiei’s side to inspect the tear gem, but don’t touch it knowing that this is a touchy subject for him. Studying the top part of this gem, I see a name… a name all to well. Shina Noriko? Shina-san!
“You know this onna?”
Looking down at Hiei I give a stern nod. He places the tear gem within his pocket, a fire dancing in his eyes. “Take me to her.” he says slowly.
I put my hands up in defense. “Hiei, I said that I know her. I don’t know where she lives.” I clear the confusion that is in Hiei’s mind.
He points at me. “Then you make her come here.” he points to the ground.
“And, how is he going to do that?” Yusuke and Kuwabara come up and cross their arms over their chest.
“Oh, this is how.”
We’re all outside the park now and I’m standing inside a phone booth, looking through the yellow pages of the phonebook.
Noriko, Noriko, Noriko…. Ah, here we are. I run my right index finger over the last names. Shina Noriko, Shina Noriko… Hai!
I take out the amounted yen and dial her home number.
+Shina’s POV+
Blaze jumps onto her lap the ringing phone in his mouth. Taking the annoying device she presses the ‘Talk’ button.
“Moshi, moshi.” Shina rubs underneath her eye, giving a silent yawn.
“Shina-san?”
“Hai….” Still being under the sandman’s spell she doesn’t realize that Shuichi is on the other end.
“Shina-san, I think me and my friends have something of yours.”
“Oh, hello, Minamino.” She replies, finally realizing that Shuichi Minamino is calling. “HEY WAIT A MINUTE!!” her eyes widen with realization. “How the hell did you get my number?”
She can just hear that smile of his being painted on his face. “From the phonebook, of course.”
“Of course. Now,” she leans back into the comfy couch and inspects her fingernails. “You said that you found something that might belong to me.”
“Hai, ummm… it’s your necklace.”
“My necklace?” Shina rubs around her throat area, wanting to feel the hidden bump underneath her school’s uniform shirt. Not feeling the item makes her eyes widen. “Where the hell are you?!” She exclaims jumping to her feet, it was more of a statement than a question.
“Just outside, the park near school.”
“Stay right there.”
With that said she hangs the phone up and rushes to put her shoes on. “Blaze, stay and guard the house, okay!” Hearing the eruption of flames and a low rumble she bolts outside the front door.
Baka! How could you NOT notice that your necklace fell off?
Jumping into the air Shina quickly creates an ice trail, leading up into the air and, over high trees. Keeping herself from falling over the ice covers your feet; she uses her powers to keep her moving.
The park soon comes into view, lowering herself far enough so no one can see her, she goes in-between two buildings sensing that no one’s in there. Running out of the alleyway she sprints towards the other side of the park, dodging cars and other pedestrians.
“MINAMINO!!!!!” Shina shouts demonically, running over to the red head.
She grabs hold of his school top and lifts him so he’s on the balls of his feet. “Where the hell is it.” poison is dripping from every word.
His hands are up, not knowing what to do. “Shina-san--”
“Don’t ‘Shina-san’ me, Minamino! Where the hell is my necklace!!” Shina shakes him slightly.
“Onna.” Looking over towards the voice, Shina sees a small male holding up her necklace. Shina is clearly visible in the well-kept gem; her eyes begin to dance a cold fire seeing some… small fry holding up her necklace.
Shina drops Shuichi and turn towards the tiny guy. “Hand over the necklace, small fry.” she says through gritted teeth.
“I like her already.” Shina hears someone whisper, but chose to ignore it.
“Hn,” Is all the guy says, but a fire erupts in his ruby eyes. In a moment’s flash she’s behind him lifting him up by his small neck.
“Now,” her grip tightens only a little. “Give the necklace AND the gem to Minamino, and Minamino you will give it to me!”
“Shina-san, don’t you think you’re going too far--” Shuichi tries to calm Shina, but fails miserably.
“YOU WILL SIELENT!!!”
“Hey! You are taking this a bit far. It’s just a--” Shina’s glare freezes the male in a green jumpsuit in mid sentence.
The red haired male slowly walks up the small boy and holds out his hand. Seeing that this guy isn’t going to let go she digs her nails into his skin and growls demonically.
The guy (reluctantly) gives Shuichi her necklace; dropping the brat she walks in front of Minamino her hand waiting patiently. The green-eyed man drops the necklace into her hand.
Shina gives Shuichi a small nod. Turning on her heel, she walks away securing her beloved necklace around her neck.
“Sheesh!! Is she a demon?” shouts one of the boys.
A licking sensation could be felt on a raven-haired beauty’s cheekbone. With a small giggle the young teenager pushes away a red/orange fur ball.
