Chapter One:

American Flashbacks

 

“What do you want toddler?” Yusuke Urameshi yelled punching his fist against Koenma's desk. Koenma looked startled by Yusuke's outburst and frowned. The fourteen year old boy had become more and more frustrated over the past few weeks and nobody could figure out why. “What do you want?” Yusuke's eyes flashed red as he stared at the toddler prince.

“He would if you would give him a chance Urameshi,” Kazuma Kuwabara told his best friend looking worried at Yusuke. Yusuke gritted his teeth and glanced intently at the toddler. Koenma nodded, glad that the boy had calmed down.

“I am sending you four to America…” There was an outburst of surprise. “The Spirit Detective team there needs your help. There is a strange aura in the area which they can not pin-point how powerful it is. We can't tell if it is a threat or not.” The group looked at him to continue. “The barrier around the aura is too powerful and they need your help to break it.”

“If we are going to America, shouldn't we know who our American counterparts are?” Kurama, the kitsune in human form, asked Koenma before Yusuke started raving again.

“Well…” Koenma began looking at his team. His face turned bright red and he adverted the groups' eyes.

“Just tell us!” Yusuke hollered his face also turning red. The pacifier dropped out of Koenma's mouth and he shivered.

“No need getting all upset. He was just waiting for me.” From the shadows of the room a figure dressed in a dark cloak that covered their face stepped out and addressed the group. Botan grinned at the new person, who responded with a nod. “I am called the Grim Reaper, the western version of a Spirit Guide.”

The group shivered as the Grim Reaper's odd aura washed over them. “I specify am the guide and helper to the American Spirit Detective Team. Most people so you know just call me Grim.” He flipped off his cloak to reveal a young looking muscular man wearing all black. Grim had coal colored hair pulled back in a ponytail, golden colored eyes, and a fang earring in his left ear.

“I will introduce the group to you through their file photos and clips of video that I have collected as the group couldn't actually be here.” A picture of a girl with light brown hair cut to her chin and exotic violet eyes appeared on the screen. She has a smart-ass look on her face that seemed to go against her nice figure. Strangely enough she was dressed similar to Grim, with a long black trenchcoat covering most of her. “Tammy Elizabeth Avalon, the leader of the American Spirit Detectives…”

“What?! A girl spirit detective?!” Yusuke yelled again. Kuwabara's face fell in the surprise, Kurama's eyes widened to look like emerald gems, and Hiei's expression never changed as he looked at her picture.

“Don't let her being a girl fool you. She is half-human and half- Neko demon that really didn't have a need for other people. Through this though she has gained close friends that she wants to protect and she proven that she is capable of protecting them.”

Grim pointed to the screen and the clips began to play.

 

Koenma's office looked exactly the same minus the people other than Koenma. Then two ogres came in dragging a teenage girl who was cursing and throwing a fit. “We found her, Koenma, sir. She didn't have the object with her though.”

“What object?! I didn't take anything!!” Tammy pulled herself free from the ogres and glared at Koenma. “Explain yourself quickly or your funeral.” Changes on her body began rapidly. She lost her human ears and gained black pointed ears on top of her head along with a long black tail. Tammy brought her hand within inches of Koenma's face and he realized that she had also grown claws.

Two more ogres came in pulling another girl. “Koenma, sir, we found her and she had the object on her.” Tammy turned to see the girl and immediately pounced on the newcomer.

“They're identical twins.” Koenma gasped as the two rolled around on the floor fighting. “I, Prince Koenma, ruler of Spirit World order you two girls to stop.”

The two girls did stop and turned to look at Koenma. Then they looked at each other. “A baby, the ruler of Spirit World.” With that they started laughing.

 

“I can't believe you put that clip in there!!” Koenma said shell- shocked. The boys were laughing as Grim snickered.

 

Tall buildings came into view as Tammy was walking along a deserted street. It seemed to be the bad side of town. Tammy didn't seem to be fazed at all by the forbbiening aura that surrounded the area. She smiled as she realized that she had reached her destination. “Tammy!” A scream came from behind her.

Tammy turned around to see Grim running toward her with some sort of zombie creature chasing him. She stepped to the side letting Grim pass as she flicked back the side of her trenchcoat and pulled a whip out of her belt. Putting her spirit energy into the whip, it started to swirl around her. “Celestial Whip Backlash!” The whip unfurled from around her and struck the enemy hitting it. “Grimmy, how many times do I have to…”

“Don't call me, Grimmy!”

 

“I can't believe you!” Grim yelled looking at Koenma, who looked quite pleased with himself. The four boys broke out into laughter.

“Grimmy!” Grim pouted as the third clip began to roll.

 

A cave came into focus and a group of people seemed to be lying on the ground. An evil laugh filled the air as the five struggled to get on to their feet. Grim was the only one that the boys recognized. Whoever or whatever had been laughing blasted them again knocking them off their feet again. “Where is she?” The group didn't answer making the figure more mad. “Tell me NOW!”

“Leave my friends alone, pinhead!” Tammy stood there ready to fight with the one in front of her. Their powers met and there was an explosion.

 

“Hey!” Yusuke yelled. “What happened to the battle?”

“It's time to introduce the others,” Grim said mysteriously.
