Yu Yu Hakusho Fan Fiction ❯ A New Family ❯ The Fire ( Prologue )
Okay, quick explanation, furlings are like little kitsunes and I don't own them. My friend does, I just stole them for this story. And this doesn't have any of the YYH characters in it.
Prologue- The Fire
"Hey half-breed! Come and get your stuff!" With a sigh Kina put down the watch she was looking at and went up to the front of the store to retrieve her groceries. Soon after that Kina left the store and headed home, ignoring the taunts of the full-breeds. As she neared home, the smell of smoke began to bother her slightly, but she wrote it off as someone burning off some brush. A red glow soon appeared through the trees.
`What in the world could they be burning?!' Kina thought. Dimly through the trees she caught sight of something that sent a thrill of fear through her. Racing around the last trees in my way, she got a clear view. Her bag of food thudded to the ground and its contents spilled out as she raced towards her burning home. "Mommy! Daddy!" Kina called desperately. Hearing no answer, she grabbed the red-hot doorknob, only to let go and cradle her burnt hand to her chest. Looking around, she saw that the dining room window was shattered from the changing pressures inside of the burning house. Pulling myself through the window, she gashed my leg on a shard of glass left in the frame. Ignoring the pain, Kina continued through the house, calling out for her parents. Finally, she got a reply.
"Kilikina! You get out of this house this instant!" Her Mom ordered sharply. Running over to her, she placed her hands on the beam that was pinning her to the floor. Pulling upwards, she strained at the beam to no effect. Crouching down, she looked at her Mom.
"Mom, what happened?"
"Kina, I'm warning you."
"But…"
"Kina."
"Where's Dad?"
"Kilikina, leave…now," her Mom said in a low voice. Reaching out, she pushed Kina away. Finally, Kina obeyed her and headed back to window. Beams and parts of the ceiling fell around her and she started a mad dash towards the opening in the wall. Scrambling through the window, she cut herself again on the hand. She ran out into the yard then turned around and looked in horror as the right side of the house collapsed. People ran past her, holding buckets and hoses from the neighbor's houses as they futilely tried to put the fire out.
An hour later it was finally put out, having mostly gone out on it's own as it ran out of fuel. The townspeople slowly walked away, not speaking to her as they left; leaving her alone in front of the pile of rubble that used to be her home. Slowly, the impact of what had happened sunk into her shock-numbed brain. Turning around, she watched the townspeople go back into town, realizing that she'd get no help from them. Slowly, she gathered the fallen groceries and headed out of town.
Sorry it's so short, that was the best place for me to cut it off. Please review!!
