"Are you certain?" Whispers raced through the cave as the messenger delivered her news. The Koorime elder clenched her fists in anger as she listened to the others speculate on what had been learned. It was bad enough that Hina had the bad taste to lay with a man and give birth to those two abominations. It was even worse that one had been born a male and she had done as the laws demanded, casting him to his death off of the edge of the island. The girl child Yukina had been allowed to live, only because of her sex and as she had listened to Hina's pleas for mercy she had felt the slightest amount of pity for the woman.

It should have ended there but true to the nature of all things male this one just had to be difficult as well. He'd had the bad taste to live, miraculously surviving the fall of over a thousand feet to the ground below. The Koorime Elder could feel a migraine coming on, somehow she had known she should have seen to his demise herself instead of leaving it to chance. Power had oozed off of his small body even then, a promise of what was to come. Now, fully grown his abilities had reached their peak and his reputation was a formidable one.

"There can be no doubts, the Imiko has survived and become second in command to Lord Mukuro. But there is more troubling news, he has been reunited with Yukina. Hina's blood has proven to be a corrupting influence on the girl. She consorts with males and it is said that one is even attempting to court her!"

More gasps filled the air with this news. If this were true it would only be a matter of time before their race was further polluted with the taint of a male's influence. Yukina should have never left the island, had the Elder been present at the time she would have put a stop to it. However the young woman had left while she was away and Rui had been in charge. Even more disturbing was the tales of a male that had appeared a few years later. It was suspected by many to have been the Forbidden Child though it could not be confirmed. Rui was strangely silent on the matter, saying only that he had left at her request and that she had no idea who he had been. The explanation did little to ease her distrust, therefor the council had decided to send an investigator out who was to bring whatever information she could concerning the strange man and the errant Koorime who had yet to return. "I see. Did you give her the summons to return and put a stop to this foolishness?"

"I did and she refused. Yukina's words were harsh, condemning the laws that banished her twin as well as our customs. She would rather live among those vile creatures than to return to us."

The elder turned from the messenger then, contemplating what was to be done. While it didn't happen often there were always young ones who questioned their customs and this was sure to be fuel to the fire. An example had to be made, apparently Hina's sacrifice had not been enough. "Be silent." Her gaze hardened as she scanned the women who had gathered for this meeting. "As you all well know our laws are in place for a reason and the punishment for any Koorime who breaks the tradition is death. Hina knew this and paid the price once Yukina was of an age to survive on her own. However the child has been tainted with impure thoughts, this is evident by the way she chose to live among men and their vile ways. Had she been willing to return she would have been pardoned of her crimes provided she was untainted. But we cannot allow the sacred laws to degrade in such a fashion."

"What would you have us do?" Rui looked down at her hands, wringing them in nervousness. She'd remained silent all this time about the Forbidden Child's visit in hopes that something like this would not come to pass. As she listened to the Elder talk she became more and more certain of what was to happen and she couldn't say that she agreed with it. If Yukina had found happiness away from the island so be it, they shouldn't take that away from her.

It was a good question, the Imiko would be difficult to execute since he had grown so powerful. Yukina on the other hand had no such abilities, she would be easy to carry out the sentence on. Once it was done peace would return to their world once again and those who questioned the laws would remain silent unless they wished to meet the same end. "We cannot abide by Yukina continuing the taint in our line. For her crimes against Koorime tradition she is to be put to death. The sentence on the Imiko stands as well, should the opportunity arise we will finish what we once started."

Rui closed her eyes, not surprised by the proclamation. "Must it be this way? Allow her to continue her life as it is. I doubt she will ever return." Now that the twins had been reunited she was certain that some measure of peace would be found in both of their lives.

"No, the laws are in place for a reason! Do not question me on this Rui, you are not yet head elder, the decision does not rest in your hands." The Elder's voice was hard and cold, immediately silencing any further protests. Turning her attention to the investigator she gained the woman's attention. "You alone should suffice in carrying out the sentence. Make sure she is dead and report back to me on anything more you learn about the Imiko."

The investigator nodded once, hearing her dismissal in the Elder's words. Turning from the gathered women, she exited through the door and began to prepare for the journey back to the Ningenkai. The order had been given, she would see it through. While it was true that the Koorime abhorred violence, select individuals were trained for distasteful tasks such as these. Her fate had been decided on the day she had been conceived and she would continue to carry on the traditions of her clan. Questions of right and wrong no longer applied, the beliefs must be upheld.

The blanket of night had long since fallen but Yukina was plagued by a restlessness that she could not explain. There was a feeling of unease that just would not dissipate, no matter what she did. Something was going to happen this night, of that she was certain but just what it was she did not know. Slowly she sat up, allowing the light blanket to pool in her lap as she turned towards the window. The new moon fell on this night, covering the temple in darkness. Perhaps that was the cause of her distress.

Silently she got to her feet and slid the shoji doors open, stepping out into the night. A cool breeze caressed her face as she stepped into the darkness and paused, giving herself time to grow accustomed to the night. The feeling of unease intensified and she couldn't help but wonder if Genkai was alright. Perhaps there was something wrong with the psychic that she wasn't aware of. Worry gripped her as she made her way towards the old woman's quarters and the feeling of wrongness continued to intensify.

A whisper of youki barely registered on her senses, causing her to hesitate for a moment. She knew this person, though it took a few seconds for her to realize who it was. Turning slowly she peered into the darkness, trying to find the intruder. "You can come out now, I know you are there and my answer has not changed. I will not return." Yukina didn't bother to try and keep her voice down, hoping that Genkai would hear her and come to see what was going on. There was no reason for Amaya to have returned, especially considering the harsh words they had exchanged. Her appearing again in the dead of night did not bode well.

Amaya didn't answer, there was no use in trying to reason with the girl anyway. Her decision had been made and judgment had been passed. Now all that remained was the punishment to be executed. The younger girl would stand no chance against her, not when she had years of training to back her up. Yukina was easy prey to one such as herself, all she needed was for the girl to take a few more steps and it would be done.

Clutching at her sleeping yukata, Yukina couldn't help but feel terribly exposed. It was another twenty feet to Genkai's quarters and she was not so foolish to believe that she could turn and run. Nor could she remain where she was, with the both of them being Koorime Amaya would be immune to all of her natural attacks. "Why have you come? Did the council send you?" Her best hope lay in getting the woman to talk, hopefully buying time to allow her to reach the psychic's bedchamber. Genkai would be able to hold the woman off without much difficulty.

Tightening her grip on the dagger, Amaya shifted ever so slightly and prepared to strike. Patience had always been a struggle for her and she fought the urge to attack prematurely. As Yukina took another step back towards her she knew the time was close at hand. The foolish girl should have listened to her when she told her to return home. As the younger Koorime took that final step she lunged, fully intending on ending Yukina's life at that very moment.

The sound of a blade cutting through the air was the only warning Yukina had and she hastily stepped to the side, hoping to avoid the attack. It wasn't enough, and she cried out as the dagger bit into her flesh. Blood poured from the wound in her shoulder and she fought to heal it while trying to avoid yet another attack. "Genkai!" Panic entered her voice as she tried to keep her eyes on Amaya. Pain swept through her as the blade plunged into her chest and her knees gave out.

Amaya moved in for the killing blow now that Yukina had been silenced, her lung punctured from that last attack. She knew that she had to work quickly, the girl's cry was certain to bring the attention of the other being she had felt in the compound. Viciously she slashed with the dagger, intent on slitting the girl's throat but a blast of energy caught her roughly in the side. Grunting with pain she fought to right herself and make her escape. Yukina was done for, without healing she'd quickly bleed out and her mission would be accomplished.

Seeing that the intruder was attempting to get away Genkai leveled another blast of spirit energy at the woman, catching her square in the chest. It wasn't meant to be a killing blow, that would come later after they had their answers. It was difficult to restrain the power that coursed through her though, she couldn't understand why Yukina would be attacked but it pissed her off this apparition had the audacity to do such a thing at her temple. Once she was certain that the threat had been nullified she turned to the fallen Koorime, hoping she could heal her in time. "Hold on Yukina!"

Weakly Yukina tried to keep her eyes open as the sight of her friend came into focus. Desperately she poured her ki into the wounds, hoping to heal them but it was so difficult to concentrate. It hurt to breathe, each gasp of air felt as if she were being stabbed yet again. She could feel herself growing weaker as unconsciousness threatened to overwhelm her. Still, she struggled to speak hoping that she could say what she needed to before her life energy gave out. Blood trickled from the corner of her mouth.

"Don't talk, you'll need your energy." Genkai placed a hand over the worst of girl's wounds and focused her ki. Sweat beaded on her brow as she fought to save Yukina's life but she wasn't about to give up on the task. She could feel the Koorime's energy trying to help hers in the healing and while it was welcomed assistance the psychic knew it would mean a longer recovery time in the long run. Briefly she wondered just how the intruder had gotten passed her wards before she dismissed the problem for now. There was every chance that it was because the Koorime were almost genetic clones of each other. Since the wards were set to allow Yukina entrance into the compound it was likely any of the Koorime could cross as well. Judging by this attack it was a problem that would need to be rectified immediately.

As the wounds began to close, Yukina's eyes slid shut as she gave in to the darkness that had lurked at the corners of her mind. She was safe for now, Genkai would take care of her from here on out. Her survival was by no means guaranteed but she no longer had the strength to worry about it.

Anger coursed through him as he stared down at his sister's sleeping form. Two days had passed since the attack that he hadn't been there to prevent. Regret gripped his heart as well, he'd sworn to always protect her but when was the last time he had checked in on her? A month ago? Or was it two? He'd been so caught up with his duties in the Makai and he'd been too busy. He'd trusted in the fact that she was at Genkai's and as such would remain safe but he'd been a fool to think so. It had taken Kurama coming to the Makai to inform him of what had happened for him to realize that once more he'd failed her as a brother.

Hatred for the one that had nearly killed her smoldered in his eyes as he turned from Yukina. She would be fine once she recovered from blood and ki loss, it would merely take a few days. His sister was strong and would be able to fight this off, of that he had no doubts. But this Koorime had harmed her and the bitch would have to pay. So many questions lurked in his mind, he'd known they were cold hearted bitches as a general rule but even he hadn't believed they would resort to these tactics. He would have his answers, one way or another before she would die. If it meant using every torture technique he'd ever heard of to do so then so be it. Slowly he made his way out of the room, intent on confronting this woman who was foolish enough to attack his only family.

Genkai was watching over her at the moment, along with Kurama. Calls had already been made to Yusuke and Kuwabara, the latter was currently on a plane and making his way back to Japan. Being accepted into a foreign college had come as a shock to them all yet it had given Hiei the room to breathe a sigh of relief. The farther away from Yukina he was the better in his opinion. Yusuke was on his way as well and would arrive within the next hour. Not that Hiei had any plans of waiting on them, he'd take care of this woman himself. It was his sister that would need their support as she was recovering. Sliding the shoji door open he stared at the Koorime that knelt upon the ground. Ropes held her in place, keeping her from escaping.

Wordlessly he stalked up to her and ripped the gag out of her mouth. Ice blue eyes stared hatefully up at him as his hands fisted in her hair, jerking her head back painfully. "You know who I am girl?" He cared not for the fact that there was little fear in the woman's eyes, just a loathing and contempt that marked her as one of those frigid bitches of his homeland.

"How could I not?" Amaya stared up at him with disdain. She'd heard the rumors and even seen the demon before her from a distance but even that hadn't prepared her for the way he made her skin crawl with just a look. She could feel his anger just waiting to be unleashed and she knew that she would die this day at his hands. It was no matter, she'd accomplished what she needed to. There was no way the girl could have survived the attack, she could go to her grave knowing that at least half of her mission had been fulfilled.

Even with the ward on the Jagan in place he'd picked up her thoughts on Yukina easily enough. "You are a fool to think someone like you would manage to kill my sister. Know this if nothing else, you are a failure. Yukina lives and your efforts were in vain." Cruelly he smiled at her as her eyes widened. Allowing her to die thinking her goal had been achieved just would not happen, he would not grant her that peace in death. Ignoring the gazes of Kurama and Genkai that he could feel lingering on the two of them he leaned forward, whispering in the Koorime's ear. "Tell me why you did it and I just might kill you quickly."

Kurama stared dispassionately at the both of them, his calculating nature taking the situation in. He knew that the Fire Apparition was unlikely to grant her a painless death no matter what cooperation she gave him. The hybrid's nature demanded blood and pain for every ounce of blood that Yukina had spilled and nothing short of hearing this Koorime's screams would satisfy that desire. He couldn't blame him though, he'd wanted to pull the answers out of her himself but refrained. That was Hiei's right and he would not be the one to deny him.

Nonchalantly Amaya shrugged, as if the consequences of her actions did not matter even though panic tried to take over. Her death was going to be in vain, assuming what the Imiko had told her was true. If Yukina lived then this had been all for nothing. The blow caught her on the cheek, snapping her head to the slid as his fist collided with her face. She tried to retaliate, releasing her ki at him in efforts to drive him back but he merely growled and struck her again.

"You forget who my mother was bitch. Your attacks mean nothing to me." Hiei wiped the her blood off of his hand before wrapping his fingers around her throat and squeezing harshly. "I'll ask you again. Why did you do it?" When she began struggling in his grip his hold tightened. She'd lose consciousness quickly at this rate but he wasn't overly concerned with her comfort. They could go at this for as long as necessary. Relaxing his hand slightly he allowed her to take a few desperate gulps of air before her airway was cut off once more. "Don't make me resort to more painful methods. I alone command the Darkness Flame, would you like to feel them bathing your body? Tell me what I wish to know!"

It felt as if her lungs were going to explode and Amaya knew that she wouldn't be able to speak even if she wanted to. The bastard was getting off on torturing her! The Elders had been right in ordering his destruction. It was just a pity that they had failed. Abruptly the painful hold relented and as the air filled her lungs she began to cough. The smell of fire however made her look up and her eyes grew wide. A black flame was gently cradled in his hand and drawing nearer. An instinctive urge to flee overcame her and as she tried to move away she crashed to the floor, unable to catch herself. As he dropped the flames onto her clothing she shrieked, the pain quickly becoming unbearable as it began burning a path up her leg. "The council! The council ordered her execution for breaking the traditions and consorting with men! They had given her a choice to return and she refused!"

A scowl covered his face at hearing this. The council had ordered her death for something so trivial? Yukina's decisions no longer affected their lives since she had chosen to remain in the Ningenkai. What right did they have to give such an order? "All of this because she would not go back?" The hatred he'd had for his mother's people flared to life once more. He'd forgone his revenge once, believing that allowing them to live was a crueler existence than death but now he was beginning to rethink his decision.

Amaya screamed in agony as the flames flared brighter in response to his anger. The smell of burning flesh filled the air as both of her legs were engulfed in the fire. "Yes! The traditions must be obeyed! You have your answers! Make it stop!" Pain like she had never experienced before overwhelmed her as the flames danced higher yet did not completely consume her body. Helplessly she turned to the only other woman in the room, hoping that she might be able to sway the Fire Apparition's decision.

Turning her back on the fallen Koorime, Genkai walked out of the room. She had no sympathy for the woman, she'd had no right to come to the temple and attack Yukina. In her opinion, Hiei was being kind to her. Had she been left in charge of Amaya's fate she would have burned her alive from the inside out. So long as the hybrid didn't burn her temple down she didn't care how he disposed of the girl. In the meantime she'd go and check on Yukina to make sure she hadn't been awoken by the ruckus. To this date the Koorime had no idea who her brother was and so it would remain.

Hiei didn't even bother watching her leave, too intent on observing Amaya's agony as she continued to scream on the floor. Her voice was already hoarse but she'd be dead long before it gave out on her. Pushing the flames to burn faster he turned to the kitsune who had remained silent through it all. "I will be returning to the Makai within the hour, I want you to watch over Yukina in my absence. I trust that should any further threats make themselves apparent you will be able to deal with them."

Nodding slightly, Kurama once more looked to the woman on the floor. Her entire body was covered now and her screams had fallen silent as the flames invaded her body and scorched her lungs. Soon she would be dead but not before she experienced a lifetime of hell in her last moments. He knew that Hiei was taking a chance returning to the Makai but he was certain of the reason the hybrid was leaving his sister behind. He had unfinished business with the Koorime, business that was long overdue. "I will, how long will you be gone?"

"A month at most. Every one of those bitches will pay for what they have done." Hiei's eyes glowed with an unholy light as he stared at the body on the floor. In another few moments only ash would remain. Already he was planning out just how he intended on reaching that damnable island for the second time. He'd only return once they were all dead, none would be spared from his fury. It was the only way of ensuring that something like this would never happen again.

"I see. And when you return? What will you do?" The hybrid was known for his unpredictability and Kurama wasn't exactly certain what he would do. Would he remain in the Makai or could this finally be what would cause the apparition to break all ties with the Makai? Yukina was quite happy with living in the Ningenkai and was unlikely to want to return to living in the demon world. On top of it, she'd no longer have a home to go to after Hiei finished with them.

Turning from the kitsune Hiei closed his eyes and took a deep breath. He knew what he had to do and as much as he disliked the Ningenkai, the temple and surrounding grounds were not intolerable. This had just proven to him that he could not maintain his duties in the Makai and still look after his sister as he had promised to do. Mukuro would understand that Yukina came first, she always had and had often questioned whether or not he wanted to return. "I will come back and do what I should have done when the Makai Tournament ended."

Kurama watched him walk out of the room before turning to look at the pile of ash. No doubt he would be the one left to dispose of what remained. Running a hand through his hair he withdrew a lone seed and gently fed his ki into it. As the plant began to grow he placed it in the center of the ash and allowed it to take root. It would take a little while but eventually the seedling would absorb all the ash and then he could transfer it out to the forest to grow to its full potential. Once he was certain the plant was capable of handling the clean up on its own he made his way towards Yukina's quarters. He needed to inform the old woman that she was about to gain another permanent resident.

It had taken Hiei longer than he had anticipated to reach the Koorime Island but just over three weeks later he had arrived. The difficulty had lay in the delays he had encountered. A quick stop at Mukuro's fortress had degenerated into something more serious. The former Makai lord had taken the news rather well that he would not be returning to serve on border patrol but had asked for his assistance on eradicating a number of pests that had been haunting the border and seizing human's for a quick lunch. He'd done what he could in the short amount of time that he had to spare but eventually he left the rest in the capable hands of the rest of the squad.

It had merely meant a weeks delay in his trip and he knew that Kurama, and now Yusuke and Kuwabara were there to look after Yukina and aid in her recovery but that didn't calm the impatience he felt at wanting to return. Now, he was at the final leg of his journey to the island. All that remained was to get up there. He scowled at the prospect, knowing that once more he'd have to capture one of the winged beasts that frequented the area.

Soundlessly he leapt into a nearby tree and removed the ward from the Jagan. It wouldn't take long for a flock to land, they was attracted to the water that poured off the island from melting ice when the sun was at its peak. Sitting in the dense branches gave him time to reflect on just what he planned to do. Rui would no doubt be there, the woman he had encountered on his last trip. Somehow he doubted that she had any part in this plot against his sister but it was of no consequence. The Koorime had their fate sealed the moment they condemned Yukina to die. A slight rustle in the breeze drew his attention and he watched the winged creature land at the edge of the small pond.

As it bent its head to take a drink Hiei struck, using the Jagan's abilities to seize the creature's mind. It shrieked its fury at being restrained even as he leapt out of the tree. Hiei watched as it fought the coercion before settling down with a shudder. Laying his hand on its shoulder he waited to make certain it would no longer put up a fight before climbing on its leathery back. Giving it a nudge with his mind the two of them took off into the sky, their destination the island above them.

It wasn't long before they were high above the clouds and approaching the edge of the frozen territory of the Koorime. He could feel the beast shiver beneath him as cold wind battered its body. Snow whipped about violently on the breeze but he paid it no mind. As they landed he commanded the beast to remain in place, he would need it for his return. The spot they had settled was a familiar one that overlooked his mother's grave site. Shoving his hands into his pockets he made his way down to her headstone. He could feel the approach of a lone Koorime, a familiar one but he ignored it. As he knelt before the headstone he ran calloused fingers over the surface. "I have returned mother, as I said I would."

The ice was cold beneath his fingers yet he did not pull away. He had forgotten the debt he owed to his people once, he would not do so again. They would pay for every moment of suffering they had put him through. They would pay for every tear that Yukina had shed as well as the tears that had fallen on the day the Elder had forced their family apart. "You suffering and death will be avenged and then I will return to guard over my sister. You have my word." He doubted that Hina could hear him, wherever her spirit happened to be but it eased some of his guilt to say the words aloud.

Rui stopped cold at hearing his words. It was of no surprise to her that he had returned, once she had learned that he had found Yukina she had known the younger Koorime would be well looked after. His presence could mean only one thing to them all, not that she could blame him. Carefully she stepped forward, a glimmer of hope beginning to form. While she knew there was no hope for their survival she had to know what the outcome of Amaya's mission had been. "She's alive? Please tell me she survived!"

Turning to face Rui, Hiei stared at her coldly. He hadn't missed the tremor of hope in her voice and knew it was as he had suspected. The woman had taken no part in this. Briefly he wondered if he should allow her to live, mercy was not something he was known for giving but the woman deserved some consideration for raising his sister."She is alive, no thanks to the people here. I thought the atrocities of the Koorime could go no further than tossing a baby to die in the wilds below but I see I was wrong. Tell me, why should I allow you to live? You who could have warned us of the impending attack but yet again did nothing."

Shame gripped her then, knowing his question was a valid one. While it was true she had no knowledge of the world beyond the island it would not have been difficult to acquire the information on the border patrol team which Amaya had mentioned during her briefing. Once more she had ignored the opportunity to act and perhaps change the outcome of things but she hadn't. Rui fell to her knees before him, hanging her head. She would accept whatever judgment he saw fit to pass over her. "I have no excuse, no reason for not leaving the island. All my life I had been taught to believe the Elders were right and even when I questioned their beliefs and knew them to be wrong I did nothing. I asked you once before to kill me so I could atone for my crimes, I would ask you again. Make my death the first of those that you take."

Hiei took a step back from her while laying a hand on the hilt of his katana. If there was one thing he could not stand it was cowardice and the woman before him had it in abundance. Still, he wasn't necessarily inclined to kill her just because she asked him to. "And if I say I will let you alone live? What then?"

"You must not." Rui took a deep breath before speaking the secret that she had not told him when he had last come to the island. The burden she carried was far to much for her to bear and should he leave her alive she would carry out the death sentence she knew that she deserved herself. "When you arrived last time, I did not tell you the full story behind Hina's death. I should have told you then but my shame was too great. I have wronged you and your sister as well as your mother. Upon the day that Yukina turned five years of age, the council proclaimed her old enough to leave her mother. They were separated, despite Yukina's cries to remain with her. When night fell on that day I was given one final task, one meant to complete the one I had been given the day you had been cast from the island."

Narrowing his eyes at the woman, it wasn't hard for Hiei to see just where Rui was going with this. He wondered if Yukina even knew this woman's secret but he knew it was unlikely. The way she had spoken of Rui on one the few times they had talked had led him to believe she looked up to the older woman. "You killed her didn't you?"

"I did. Hina knew why I was there and didn't fight. She had lost the will to live the day that I had cast you to the Makai, the only reason she had continued on was for Yukina and she'd been taken away. Hina.... never forgave me for what I had done to you, not that I expected her to." Rui fell silent for a moment and she took the chance to look into the hybrid's eyes, flinching at the hatred she saw lurking in those crimson depths. "I didn't want to do it, but I felt I had no choice in the matter. Hina just sat there staring at me as I mixed the poison in with her drink and when I handed it to her she smiled at me. Her last words were that she could finally be with her son and he'd never be taken from her again."

The sound of a blade being pulled from its sheath echoed through the air as Hiei stood before her. Hatred and loss filled him as he listened to Rui's words, even in death his mother had still cared for him. The loss of the chance to experience that love was something that he could never regain. "Your wish will be granted woman. You were not strong enough to stand up for what you believed in, who am I to deny your request?" For the briefest of moments he could see the relief fill her eyes before she closed them and wait for him to make his move. Using the Jagan he seized her mind, forcing her body into unconsciousness before plunging the blade into her heart. It was as quick and painless as he could make it, payment for raising his sister into the gentle woman she had become.

Pulling the sword free he flicked the blood off of it before continuing on to the town. Never once did he look back at the one who had brought about so much pain. He knew it would not be long before the others knew he was here, if they didn't know already. Hiei used the Jagan to count the number of Koorime on the island and to secure their locations. The Elder would be the last to die by his hand but first he had to take care of the others. There were close to fifty in all, dwindling numbers for a once prosperous race. As he entered the outskirts of the town, the apparitions began to take notice of him.

True to form, the majority ran but it made no difference. As they disappeared into their homes the roofs and doorways caught fire which quickly spread, eliminating any chance for escape. He could feel the terror of the trapped occupants but he numbed himself to their screams. Black flames danced, ensuring that the Koorime had no chance of containing the fires. Young or old, it didn't matter as he continued his mission of eliminating any further threat to Yukina. It was unlikely that she would ever learn of what had happened but even if she did, she had once spoke of the wish that her twin would return to the island to carry out his vengeance. She alone would understand why this had come to pass should it ever come to light about who he was.

One by one he felt their life energies extinguish until only one remained. As expected the witch was in the council chambers, most likely hiding in the hopes she would not be discovered. He scoffed at the very idea that he could possibly overlook her. This was a confrontation that he was going to enjoy, he'd make sure that she perished slowly and painfully for what she had done. Roughly he threw the door open and walked inside, ignoring how dimly the interior was lit. A shadowed form could be made out before he pushed the door shut behind him, encasing them in the darkness. Wordlessly a torch was lit, revealing the woman sitting with an air of calm. "You don't seem surprised to see me you old fool. Do you know that they are all dead? Every last one of your precious village has fallen before me and now it is your turn to die."

"I'm not surprised to see you Imiko. Once I learned you had the audacity to actually survive I knew it was only a matter of time before you returned." She laughed then, a cruel sound that filled the air. "It was as the prophecies foretold, the end of the Koorime's existence at the hands of a Forbidden brat born to a harlot that couldn't keep her legs closed. No, I'm not surprised but I will not be the only one to die from this confrontation."

Hiei crossed his arms and stared at her with disgust. Even now when facing her own death the bitch seemed so confident of herself. She couldn't even be considered a B class demon, there was no way she could stand up to the raw power he could unleash upon her. "You must be joking. There is no way you could hope to kill me but you're welcome to try if you wish."

The old woman stood then, taking two steps before kneeling on the floor. To the average observer it might have appeared as if she were prostrating herself before him in a show of submission. But that was foolish thinking, reserved for those who knew no better. As she laid her palm upon an inscription that had been drawn upon the floor when she first sensed his violent energy she began to chant. The runes glowed a pale blue as her voice filled the air.

Unsure of what she was doing Hiei drew his sword and prepared to attack. He wasn't well versed in the use of spells but he wasn't about to let her have a free shot at him. He lept forward, intent on removing her head from her shoulders but a wall of ice sprang up and his sword bounced off of the barrier. "If you think that will stop me you are sadly mistaken you old hag." Calling forth the fires once more the ice was quickly melted but by then the entire room was glowing with a dangerous light. It bathed his skin and he growled at the sickening sensation that coursed through his body. "What the hell is this?"

The Elder remained where she knelt, knowing that he could kill her at any moment. It made no difference, what was done was done. "It's a spell Imiko, surely even you realize this. One that will ensure your death. You see, each Koorime is born with certain... talents. Amaya's was stealth and fighting skills. Yukina's was healing. Mine just happened to be spells. The spell I just cast will destroy you from the inside out, lowering your body temperature and weakening your ki until you can no longer fight it off. You'll freeze to death from the inside out, regardless of whose blood you possess. No one is immune and now, you've killed anyone who can possibly remove it."

Snarling, Hiei took a step forward and grabbed the old woman's robes. "Tell me the cure or so help me I'll skin you alive before stringing your entrails across this god forsaken place." There was always a way to remove a spell, always a way to counter it. He just needed to learn what was required in order to accomplish it. He refused to die because of this witch.

Seeing the hatred and realization of what she had just done in the Forbidden Child's eyes gave her no small amount of pleasure. How much further would it crush him to learn that all hope was gone? "Now now, there's no need to get so... violent. I'll tell you, not that it will make a difference. Every Koorime healer is taught how to reverse the spell upon receiving their final training and it involves an exchange of specialized energy through sexual contact and a soul exchange. The purpose for the spell is a punishment for the most vile of crimes and the cure has only been administered once because it requires the healer to bond with the one affected. They are in essence tying their lives together to ensure that the offenses will not be repeated. Should it happen a second time, both parties are executed. So as you see, you've sealed your fate along with the rest of the Koorime. I am the last remaining of our kind and even if I was willing to do this exchange with you which I am not, I do not meet the requirements to do so."

Throwing the old woman to the floor Hiei took a hold of his katana once more. He could sense no lie from her and the cocky way she smiled at him even now only further confirmed she was telling the truth. His only chance for survival now lay with Yukina but it was something that he would never ask of her. He would die before approaching her with this problem he had acquired. Still, the old woman did not have to know this. Let her think that her death was in vain. "It is amusing to me that you think you have won even in death. Let me be the one to tell you that Yukina survived the attack and as of yet she does not know I am her brother. She holds the ranking necessary to break this curse. It should not be difficult to convince her to help me lift it."

The Elder stared into his sneering face as he spoke, disbelief filling her. Amaya had failed? All this time, she believed that the destruction was in retaliation for the girl's death but she still lived? What's worse, the man standing before her was willing to defile he own sister in order to live? Loathing filled her at such a thing happening, she knew that men were disgusting creatures but this went beyond what she even believed possible. Didn't he know what would happen if he laid with his sister? A child would be conceived, an abomination by any standards. The unholy union between brother and sister. He would bring yet another Imiko into this world in order to save his own pathetic life. "You would defile your own sibling in order to live, truly you are a pathetic creature. We were right to throw you to the wilds below. It's just a pity you did not perish in the fall. If Yukina were to touch one as filthy as you-"

His sword cut through the air, silencing anything further that she had to say. Blood splattered upon the ground as her head was severed from her shoulders. Whatever words that she would have spoken died in that instant but Hiei found that he didn't care. He had no intentions of going to Yukina with this in the first place so listening to the bitch continue to degrade him in such a fashion was pointless. His goal accomplished, he cleaned his bloody sword on the Elder's robes before sheathing it once more and leaving the building. As he made his way back to the winged creature that brought him here he never once looked back at the destruction he had left behind. Perhaps Mukuro would know a way to cure this curse the Koorime had inflicted upon him. While he doubted it, there was much that the former lord knew that he did not.

~*~

"You gotta be shitting me." Yusuke was currently seated across from Mukuro, having been summoned by the former ruler in a last ditch effort to figure out how to save Hiei's life. As soon as the problem had come to light she had immediately put her top researchers on the problem in hopes that a cure would be found. Hiei of course refused to admit that his time was running out and continued patrolling in spite of her words of caution. Even having been told to go spend his remaining time with Yukina had been pointless, he refused to approach her. At the rate he was going he'd be dead a weeks time and they were powerless to stop it.

Mukuro shook her head, this was the farthest thing from a joke that she could think of. Calling on Yusuke had been a last ditch attempt at getting the hybrid to slow down and perhaps gain the aid of the Reikai. However Yusuke had destroyed those hopes, Koenma wouldn't help any of them should something happen. He hadn't heard from the demigod since the last Makai tournament, their dealings were over until the day his life ended. "I assure you Yusuke, this is serious. It would seem that the Koorime were right, there is only one way to break this curse. While it pains me to say it, if Hiei is to have any chance at survival it lies with Yukina." She was the absolute last person to be in favor of the apparition going to his sister but she didn't want Hiei to die either. "Perhaps the Elder lied about the method of treatment and Yukina would know the truth?"

Breathing out a heavy sigh Yusuke considered the idea. It was possible that was the case but somehow he doubted it. "We can give it a shot if nothing else. Though you'll never get Hiei to go to her, she'll have to come to him and if there is no other way, you know what she'll want to do. She's always felt close to him, if she were to learn he was dying from trying to avenge her she'd go out of her way to help him." Unspoken was the question of just how to break it to the girl that Hiei needed her help and why. Surely once she was told he had gone to the floating island in retaliation for what had happened she would figure out that he was her brother. There was absolutely no reason for him to go otherwise.

"I'd already thought of that. We cannot force anything on either of them and as much as I dislike the thought of them possibly bonding, it isn't unheard of in either of our races. Just frowned upon." Mukuro sighed then and stared up at the ceiling. Hiei was likely to never forgive her for this one, Yukina was about to learn the cold hard truth concerning her brother but it was for the best. As much as she tried to hide it, Mukuro cared for the fire demon. If this was what it took to ensure he survived then so be it. "Bring her tomorrow when night falls if she is willing. He exhausts himself during the day and it will give her a chance to speak to him without fear of him leaving. If I have to lock them together in the same room until he agrees I will."

"Alright, I'm leaving it up to you to stop him from killing the both of us when this is over." Yusuke gave a weak laugh, trying to find some humor in any of this. The idea disgusted him as well but given the choice of losing his friend or having Hiei tied to Yukina there was no question in his decision. Kuwabara would have to understand, while the two of them had never gotten along he was pretty sure his friend would agree once he understood the situation.

Mukuro scoffed at this, with the way Hiei's power had increased since the last tournament she doubted that even she would be able to hold the apparition off should he decide to fight seriously. "If it comes down to that then we're both in trouble now don't waste time. I'm sure the girl will have questions, I've told you what I know. Hiei will be back soon and if he finds you here he's going to want to know why."

"Yeah I don't suppose saying it was just a friendly visit would be believable. Alright I'm going, don't let him overdo it in the meantime." Knowing Mukuro was serious about Hiei finding him there he left to compound and made his way towards Puu. As the phoenix took off into the air he couldn't help but wonder just how he was going to break this to Yukina. Mukuro's information had been sketchy at best, only what the Elder had told Hiei and the meager facts that her informants had been able to come up with. "How do I get pulled into this shit?"

Of course Puu didn't have an answer for him, and merely turned an eye towards him as they flew on. Two hours later he passed through the portal which led to Genkai's temple. Dusk had fallen as the phoenix found a place to land and Yusuke took the first opportunity to jump off and stretch his legs. With a final pat to the blue bird he walked up the long steps to speak with Yukina. It was no surprise to him that he sensed Kurama's energy there as well. Kuwabara had left the day before, since his leave from school was over and it had been hell convincing the man they had it under control enough for him to return. The stubborn guy had left only after promising to return at the first possible opportunity.

As he stopped at the top of the stairs the question of why him surfaced in his mind again, surely Kurama would have been able to do this as well but Mukuro had insisted it be him to go. Perhaps it had something to do with the fact that he used to be the team leader. "Who the hell knows... I might as well get this over with." At least Yukina had completely recovered from the attack. Suffering Hiei's wrath was going to be bad enough but if Yukina was weakened when this ki transfer took place then it was guaranteed everyone involved was going to die a painful death.

"Yusuke is something wrong?" Yukina could tell by his aura that he was conflicted about something, she just wasn't sure what it was. As she approached him she laid a calming hand on his arm, hoping her slight abilities at empathy could give her an idea of how to help him with whatever the problem was. However all she could pick up off of him was conflict and concern.

"Yeah.. Look let's go inside to talk." As he lead her inside his eyes caught Kurama's as they passed, silently conveying just how serious the visit to the Makai had ended up being. He could see Yukina was confused and worried which was only likely to get worse. The only thing that he was thankful for was the fact that Kuwabara wasn't here to hear this.

Once they were settled on the floor Yusuke took a deep breath. "Yukina, I was called to the Makai by Mukuro in regards to Hiei. It seems he ran into a bit of trouble and we're out of options to help him." Not that there had been many options to begin with, if only that old hag had been lying. Then he wouldn't be stuck in this position. However no matter how bad it was for him, it was bound to be much worse for Hiei and Yukina.

Her breath caught in her chest at Yusuke's words, if even Mukuro couldn't help him it had to be extremely bad. Yukina wasn't certain what she could possibly do but if it was within her power she would do so. Hiei had always been polite to her, even nice to a point which was something she hadn't seen him do with anyone else. He also helped her on numerous occasions, not only saving her life but helping in her search for her brother. "What is wrong with him and what can I do to help?"

Kurama had a sinking suspicion that something had gone terribly wrong on the Koorime Island. He hadn't had anything concrete to go on aside from the fact that Hiei had never returned from his trip as he said he would. To be honest the Kitsune had been ready to make a visit to the Makai and search for him. The summons from Mukuro had been the only thing that stopped that when it mentioned that Hiei had returned and she wished to speak to the Toushin.

"Hiei had a spell cast on him, by some Koorime Elder or something and no one knows how to cure it. Mukuro told me that it is slowly destroying his ki and it will eventually lower his body temperature enough that it kills him. Like hypothermia I guess." Yusuke had never been particularly good with explanations and the amount of detail Mukuro had gone into as for just how this spell would affect Hiei was too much. He'd never cared much for what temperature was considered fatal for the human body much less a demons. He could only hope that Yukina knew what he was talking about.

Yukina clutched at her kimono and bit her lip. Why had Hiei gone to the Koorime Island? Better yet, how had he managed to find it? The Jagan would be of aid but he needed to know the general location didn't he? That had been a closely guarded secret, it wasn't as if you could see the island from the ground. The cloud cover was always too thick. She had to know his reasoning behind going there. She had a suspicion of what had been done to him but she needed to be sure. "Why would Hiei go to the island?"

When Yusuke cast a pleading look over at him Kurama sighed. Neither of them wanted to betray Hiei's confidence in this matter but it wouldn't take long for Yukina to figure it out. She was a bright girl, if a bit naive. It was better to tell her now than to have her figure it out on her on. "He went to put a stop to the attacks on you Yukina. He was the one to question Amaya and made the decision to get involved."

As she stared at the kitsune she knew that there was something that he was holding back from her. It wasn't anything concrete that she had to go on but she couldn't shake the feeling none the less. Hiei had absolutely no reason to go speak with the Elders about attacking her. "What aren't you telling me Kurama? I'll help him in any way I can but you must tell me the truth."

"This isn't the first time Hiei went to the island. He went back once before to take his revenge on what they did to them but left them unharmed when he learned he had a sister. Hiei is your brother Yukina, he just didn't want to tell you because of what he's done." Kurama braced himself for whatever possible reaction she might have and he didn't have to wait for long. It was all he could do to stop from flinching from that cold glare so like Hiei's. It was expected, her to be upset with them. All this time they had lied to her while knowing how desperately she wanted to find him.

Anger gripped her for several long minutes and the silence dragged out between them. They'd treated her like a fool, allowing her to wonder all this time where her brother was and if he was even alive. Yet she couldn't bring herself to be mad at Hiei for it. How could she after he'd been tossed away like trash. Yes, the man was confident in his abilities but when he was near she could feel some of his emotions. She experienced the self loathing he carried for himself and the mistrust he had for others. It all made sense now. "You are certain of this?"

"Yeah, we wanted to tell you but we thought it was for the best. Hiei said you'd be better off without him but he's been watching over you since we rescued you from that money hungry ball of fat Tarukane." So far Yusuke was surprised that she hadn't yelled at them or lashed out for what they had kept from her. He wouldn't have blamed her if she had.

"I see." To know that her brother had been so close all this time was a relief but at the same time dread filled her. She was almost certain of what he had been cursed with. If he confronted the Elder and revealed his identity she would stop at nothing to make sure he perished. This was a guaranteed kill for her, for no self respecting Koorime would ever perform the bond with a male. The one time it had occurred it had been between two women. To mate with a male was an unthinkable act for most of them. But this brought its own set of problems. If he was her brother she couldn't perform the bond herself and the likelihood that any of the others would do it were slim. Perhaps Rui would be able to, she was the one who had passed on the secret to her in the first place. "If this spell is what I think it is, Hiei will need to return to the island and speak with Rui. She is probably the only one who would be sympathetic to him and be willing to bond with him."

Yusuke shook his head in negation, Yukina was Hiei's last hope. "Is there any other way Yukina? When Hiei went to the island, no one was left alive. The Elder, Rui, all of them perished in the fight." It was a twist on the actual events but the ex-detective wasn't about to point out to Yukina that her brother had gone there with the intent to kill every last one of them. That he hadn't given any of them a chance for survival..

Somehow she wasn't surprised to hear this. Hiei's anger was deadly and she was well aware of how protective he was. Closing her eyes, Yukina tried to remember everything that Rui had ever taught her. The lesson in question came on the last day of her training and while it had been years ago she still remembered it clearly. Rui's warning on what could happen to her should she ever bond to someone stuck out prominently, the curse was reserved for those considered irredeemable. If there was any other way to remove it, she had never been informed. "No, I'm sorry there isn't."

"Then Hiei is going to die." Anger gripped Yusuke as he thought of everything that Hiei had ever done to help the three worlds. To be killed like this was beyond low, if the Elder had still been alive he'd be the one to personally escort her soul to hell.

Yusuke's words tore through her heart. She alone held the cure but it was a taboo relationship for her. All the same though, could she allow Hiei to die? Especially since he had gone on her behalf in hopes to protect her? She knew that she could not, yet would he even accept her help? It was obvious he knew of their relationship and if he couldn't even admit to being family because of his views on himself how would he take the possibility of being bonded to her? There was no love between them, at least not in the romantic sense. They cared for each other even if it had been from a distance. Yet this was not a bond to enter into lightly. Koorime were nothing if not possessive of the ones they bonded to, whether it was through this method or not. If she were to take this step it would tear her heart out to see him disappear, it would kill her to know he was with another. Could they accept being together as mates? Her determination came forward, he would accept it. She hadn't just found her brother just so she could lose him again. "He's not going to die, I won't allow it."

"You'll have a fight on your hands Yukina. You know he'll try and deny your help." Kurama wanted to make sure that she was well aware of what she was getting into before she approached him. He'd seen that look on her face before though it wasn't often. With her outlook on life it was extremely easy to forget that she was over a century old and a demoness who had lived through many hardships.

"He won't have a choice, if I am right he won't be able to resist what I am offering to him. It's a condition of the spell to respond to the counter. Once it starts he won't be able to stop." It wasn't playing fair and Yukina knew it but she wasn't going to concern herself with that just know. Later, after she was certain that he would survive she would gladly face whatever he had to say with her. They would deal with things as they happened and she'd take full responsibility for her actions, including the child that would no doubt result. Twins were a possibility she knew, just as had happened with her mother, it was the curse of being a Koorime. Being a self reproducing creature their bodies were always ready to procreate once they came of age, it only took ingesting the right herbs to trigger a chain reaction which would lead to conception. However if a male were introduced, no such actions were necessary. It would just happen. Shaking her head she banished the thoughts. If need be she could take the herbs tonight, it would be taking a chance with the time frames being so close but either way she would end up with child. It didn't solve the problem of in the future but for the moment it provided a possible solution for the immediate issue.

"We leave tomorrow then. Mukuro wants us there at nightfall, Hiei will have returned by then and be unable to leave. His duties leave him exhausted at the end of the day but he won't quit until he's dead." Yusuke hoped that Yukina knew what she was doing, once this was done there was no going back. He still wasn't sure how to deal with his feelings on the matter but he wasn't going to worry about it now. All that mattered was the girl was willing to help Hiei and based on the look in her eyes, the apparition didn't stand a chance.

"I'll be ready to go then. I expect I'll be staying in the Makai for a minimum of a week, the bond takes time to form and the closer the contact that quicker it takes hold. He will need time to recover from the damage the spell has done to him as well." Yukina turned to Kurama, eying him for a moment and trying to decide whether or not he had the plants she would need for the tonic. If he did not then the results of what would happen with Hiei was a forgone conclusion. "Kurama there are some plants I may need to acquire. They are not essential for aiding Hiei but I would like to have them none the less."

Kurama looked at her critically, unsure of what she might need them for. He kept a supply of the most commonly used plants from the Ningenkai on hand. Unfortunately however if they were Makai plants it was unlikely that he would have a supply of them and the likelihood of being able to acquire them before she left was slim. "What are they, if I have them they are yours."

Yukina went over the list of what she would need in her head, making she she remembered each of them. She'd hoped to be in a more stable situation before conceiving but some things couldn't be helped. "I'll need Aralia majus, Ferula glabra and Salvia indica. Fresh is best but not necessary." Silently she waited for his answer, knowing that one way or another she would be a mother soon.

~*~

A day later saw Hiei slowly making his way towards his quarters. He was so damned cold anymore and only by continually moving was he able to maintain some semblance of warmth. However even his energy was not inexhaustible and he was forced to return to the fortress. He hadn't even been required to give a report this evening, Mukuro had taken one look at him and ordered him to take some rest. Normally he would have argued and said he was fine but he no longer had the strength. Sleep was sounding good right about now.

Had he been in any shape to question it, he would have grilled Mukuro on that strange look she had given him as he was leaving. It was oddly sad and more than a touch regretful. Perhaps she was already writing him off as dead, he didn't know. No cure had been found, he knew that much at least. If it had then he would have been the first to know and this would no longer be a question. His footsteps echoed down the hall as he made his way to his bedroom and he stopped just outside of a heavy wooden door. Pushing it open revealed his bed chambers and to his surprise someone had already started a fire in the fireplace. 'Mukuro most likely, it wouldn't surprise me.'

Pulling off his cloak he tossed it over a nearby chair before taking a moment to yank his boots off and remove his katana. As he made his way over to the bed he briefly thought about a shower before dismissing it. Right now all he wanted to do was lay down, perhaps he would get one later after he had rested for a few minutes. His head touched the pillow and he closed his eyes only to open them once more when he felt a slight weight added to the side of the bed. Alarm spread through him for not sensing someone sooner but he relaxed slightly when he saw who it was. "Why are you here Yukina?" He didn't want to consider the possibility that she knew.

"I'm here to help you Hiei." As she stared into his pain filled face she knew that she had to do this. She wouldn't regret what was about to happen, she just hoped that he wouldn't hate her for what she was about to do. Immediately she felt him tense beside her and she laid a gentle hand on his shoulder, focusing her ki to begin the process. "Relax, I'm not going to hurt you. I won't let you die."

It was difficult, trying to sit up while Yukina was holding him down but he managed. Quickly he grabbed her wrist and pulled her hand away, taking care not to hurt her. "Yukina don't even think about doing this. We can't!" His breathing had become ragged as he fought off the effects of the energy she had begun to push into him. He wasn't sure just what she intended to do with that touch but he wasn't going to allow her to progress any further without knowing exactly what she had in mind.

"We can and we will. Hate me if you want brother but it's going to happen. I've thought about this all night and I know this is the right thing to do. I don't care if it's forbidden or not." Yukina knew it was only a matter of time until he succumbed to her touch. He'd gotten a taste of her energy and it wouldn't be long before the spell began to change, demanding more.

"How did you know?" Hiei stared at her in shock, disbelief filling him. She knew? She knew! And yet she still wanted to go through with this? It was insane, she should be back in the Ningenkai. Not here about to try and coerce him into a forbidden union that would cause nothing but heartbreak for everyone concerned. He couldn't allow her to do this. "It doesn't matter, return home Yukina. Even Kuwabara would be better for you. I am your brother and not a very good one at that. Return home and forget about me."

Somehow she had known that he was going to be stubborn about this but he wasn't the only one with determination on this front. "You misunderstand me Hiei. I've decided that I'm going to help you and once I make a decision I do not go back on it." When he tried to get up to leave the room she pushed him back down onto the bed and pinned him there. Of course, even with how weakened he was he could still overpower her but as she continued to manipulate the spell with her energy she knew that he would not. Already she could sense the changes within him even if he had yet to acknowledge them.

"You don't know what you are asking of me Yukina. Please." Hiei swallowed hard as she situated herself over him and for the first time he noticed she was wearing a white robe that fell open easily around her legs. "Don't do this." Any further protests he could make were cut off as she leaned forward to kiss him. It was tentative at best and it was clear that she was inexperienced but that didn't stop her from trying. Warmth began to spread through him as she continued touching him and he began to respond to it. It had been so long since he had felt anything but the frigid cold and he longed for the heat that used to course through his body.

Allowing her hands to wander his bare chest, Yukina took the time to explore his body before proceeding any further. He hadn't had enough time to completely succumb to what was happening and once she started she didn't want to stop. The prospect was slightly frightening to her and she didn't want to lose what little nerve she had. Eventually he would be willing to take control but until then she had to lead him very slowly into what was to come. She could feel the groan building in his chest as she ran her fingertips over his nipples and then trailed them down over his sides.

Perhaps it was the thrill of the forbidden, perhaps it was the overwhelming warmth that was spreading through him like a wildfire but Hiei was finding that he wanted more. With each ghosting caress of her hands he found his thoughts slipping further and further away from every reason that he was supposed to be pushing her away. "Yukina..." He gasped as she pulled away slightly, his senses becoming overloaded with the feel of her pressed up against him.

"That's it, don't fight it. I'll take care of you, I promise." One of her hands left his chest to undo the sash holding her robe closed, baring her skin to his view. As she stared into his eyes she could see the hesitation in them as well as the guilt. It would be something they needed to work on later, once this was over. They were to become one and the same, he would have to come to terms with it. Slowly she leaned forward and began to nibble on his neck, enjoying the slightly salty taste of his skin. When his hands slid beneath the robe and his arms encircled her waist she pressed against him, allowing him to feel her skin against his own.

His body came alive at the sensation and demanded more contact. Without warning he had their positions switched, pinning the girl beneath him. Insistently he rocked his growing erection against her center showing her exactly what his body desired. Feeling her hands on the move once more he grabbed them and pinned them up over her head. Staring down into eyes so much like his own he glared down at her. "What are you doing to me?"

A fighter to the very end, Yukina knew that he was on the brink of giving in. Smiling up at him she wrapped her legs around his waist and pulled him roughly against her core. It sent an exquisite shiver through her body, never before had she felt anything like this and suddenly she knew why her mother had given in to the touch of a man. "I'm doing what feels right Hiei. You were taken from me once, I refuse to lose you again. Give in brother, you want this just as I do." To prove her point she thrust up against him once more."

Hiei couldn't think as she continued to move against him so. All his worries continued to melt away under her gentle ministrations and eventually he released her hands. Even though he knew it was wrong he couldn't stop himself as he began to do some exploring of his own when his mouth sought one of her nipples. Gently he teased it, wanting her to enjoy this as much as he was. As she arched up into his mouth he shifted above her and slipped his hand between their bodies. She was bare beneath the robe, not that he was complaining. As his questing fingers sought out her jewel he continued to tease her with his lips and tongue.

Fingers slid across the most secrets of places and Yukina couldn't help but call out as they began a slow circular motion. She felt him smirk against her skin and groaned. Two could play at this game, she might have never experienced sex but that didn't mean that she was completely innocent. She'd picked up more than a thing or two from listening to others talk when they thought she wasn't paying attention. With a smirk of her own she began to unbuckle those twin belts that barred her from her goal. Once they were out of the way she palmed his heavy shaft and stroked it lightly. The size worried her slightly but she didn't allow that to deter her as she continued to pull forth groans of pleasure from the man above her.

Unsure of just how much longer he'd be able to last with the way she was touching him he slid a finger inside of her waiting heat, being careful not to break her maidenhead. His thumb found her jewel and continued to rub it while thrusting his finger deep inside her. he wanted her to cum for him at least once before he took her. He knew she was close as her walls began clenching against his finger and the grip she had on his erection tightened. He increased his efforts, pushing her closer and closer to the edge as she panted beneath him.

"Hiei.. please.. I need.. I need..." She couldn't begin to tell him what she was asking for, she was only certain that he was the only one who could give it to her. His mouth switched to her other breast, nipping the taut peak gently as he continued to pump his finger into her. The pleasurable sting was just enough to bring her over the edge into ecstasy. Crying out she pushed harder against his hand as the sensations overwhelmed her.

Hiei had to fight to stop his own release, the feel of her calling out his name was nearly his undoing. Slowly he pulled away from her and looked into her eyes as he brought his hand to his mouth and cleaned it of her essence. She tasted exquisite and he knew that before the night was out he wanted to taste her again but that would come later. Now he needed to be buried deep inside her, he needed to feel her walls clenching around his length as he pleasured her with his body. He never looked away as he stood and slid his pants from his hips, leaving them on the floor. Her could see she was a bit frightened as his erection came into view and he didn't need the Jagan to know she was wondering how he would fit inside of her. As he knelt between her legs he leaned forward and whispered into her ear. "The pain won't last long."

Taking a deep breath, Yukina tried to relax as he rubbed the head of his cock against her swollen nether region. Barely heard was the final chanted words that would make the last of the spell complete as he thrust deeply within her body. Pain gripped her body but she forced herself to relax, hoping the stinging sensation would end soon. Breathing deeply she stared up into his concerned eyes and smiled weakly up at him. "I'm okay."

When he felt her tense up at the last moment he'd known it was going to hurt her more than necessary and he nearly pulled away when he felt her nails pierce the skin of his back. Her barely restrained cry of pain ripped through him and he was torn between holding still and withdrawing. However bit by bit he felt her relax beneath him and he took a chance on moving. Groaning as he slipped further into her body he pulled out slightly before thrusting forward once more.

Yukina clung to him as he moved over her, the pain was quickly becoming a thing of the past as he took his pleasure in her body. Even know she could see the faint glow that surrounded the both of them and she knew that as they shared blood they would complete the final stage of the bonding. Her hand found its way into his hair, yanking his head down towards her own as she kissed him. Blood filled their mouths as her tongue came in contact with one of his fangs and she groaned as he began sucking on it. His blood soon joined hers as the continued to ravage each others mouths and their bodies began moving at a frantic pace.

Exquisite fire flared through their veins and Yukina knew that he had given up any idea of control as he grabbed one of her legs and pulled it up over his shoulder. Sweat trickled down his brow as he thrust deeply within her body, his muscles rippling with every movement and she couldn't help but think of how magnificent he looked as he moved above her. She didn't bother to hold back her cry of pleasure as he hit a tender spot deep within her which sent her crashing over the edge into bliss and moments later her lover followed, bathing her walls with his hot seed. As he stilled above her she held him closely and ran her fingers through his hair.

Hiei sighed as she continued to hold him but he knew that he couldn't remain there forever. They had to face the consequences of their actions and he didn't want to see when the regret began to take root in his sisters heart. 'She shouldn't have done this. God what have I done?' Slowly he began to pull away from her, unsure of what he would do now. All he knew was he had to be doing something, anything to avoid what had just happened. He was so tired but he dared not sleep.

"Hiei... don't." Now that the bond was in place she could feel everything he did and she wanted to put an end to these feelings before they had a chance to flourish. "I meant what I said earlier. I do not regret this and I do not want you to either. I know... It'll take time to figure this out but please. Do not shut me out." She bit her lip as he turned to face her, willing herself not to cry. He would not welcome her tears and she did not wish to make him feel any more guilt for what had just happened. All she wanted was for him to remain by her side now."

As he stared into her face he gently brushed one of the tears away from her face before it had a chance to fall and form a tear gem. Her fear at being abandoned slammed into him taking his breath away. It had been a feeling he had known all of his life and it was something he didn't want to subject her to. Even knowing that their relationship was wrong, she still wanted him to stay with her. He wasn't sure quite what to say so he allowed his actions to speak for him. Slowly he laid down beside her once more and welcomed her into his arms. As her head rest upon his chest he could still feel that some of her fear still lingered but not to the degree that it had been. "Are you sure you want this? You want me?"

"I am. My decision was made as soon as the question was asked. No more doubts, I don't care who you were or what you have done in the past. What matters is what happens from here on out." Yukina smiled gently at him, willing him to believe what she said. It would take time to convince him she knew but she was willing to put forth as much effort as necessary. In the meantime.... "You should sleep, it will take a while to repair the damage that's been done. When you wake we can talk further." Of course, she knew the likelihood of much talking being done before they repeated their love session was virtually nonexistent.

"You win. We will continue this discussion later." Really he was too tired to think anymore, his energy had been low when he'd first entered the room and now it was completely exhausted. As his eyes slid shut and he drifted into slumber he didn't see the small smile that Yukina gifted him with nor the way her hand drifted slowly to rest on her abdomen. It wouldn't be long before more changes took place in their lives but one way or another they would survive.

"It won't be easy but we'll make it. We're a family again."

The End.

Author's Note: I know there are unanswered questions to this one shot, I did that purposefully. There is a good chance that in the future I may want to continue this as a story. In the meantime however you are free to come up with whatever ending you want as to just whose child(ren) Yukina carries and how the others will react once they know the deed has been done. Please read and review, it helps to fuel the muses :)
