Yu Yu Hakusho Fan Fiction ❯ A Whispering Wind ❯ A Whispering Wind ( Chapter 1 )
Disclaimer: I do not, I repeat, I do not own YYH except my OC, Rei.
It was a quiet night in the world of makai, the blood red sky was glittered with shining dark blue stars, the summer wind has picked up its pace, the air was calm and serene..just the way a certain ruby eyed fire demon liked it. The mentioned fire demon was resting in an old oak tree, holding a young female ookami/vixen no older than 146 years old, dressed in a pale blue tunic.
"....I'm sorry this has happened to you Rei." The fire demon said, not breaking his gaze torwards the silver crescent moon that grazed the sky.
"It's s'ok Hiei-san..you weren't the one who killed my daddy.." Rei replied sadly, her hazy grey eyes brimmed with lidquid silver tears.
Hiei looked down at Rei with his cold crismon red eyes contemplating what to do next. Hiei sighed sadly, remebering what happened earlier this evening, Rei's father was a close friend of his, but today, he got himself killed by a bounty hunter while fleeing from a raid he commited and since Rei's mother died seven years ago, Hiei was the only one left to take care of her and Hiei agreed with no complaints.
'Baka Kitsune..why did you have to leave Rei so suddenly..she misses you terribly..' He thought somberly.
Then Hiei felt something silky wet fall onto his black cloak, he looked down to see lidquid silver tears soaking into his cloak. Rei was a special youkai, her tears act as a healing substance, her tears can cure poison, cuts, every kind of illness, this kind of power was rare and only Rei has it.
"Rei..don't cry..tears don't suit you, besides your father wouldn't want you crying now would he?"
"I know..but, I just miss him so much and...I'm afraid of being alone.." Rei said in a soft tone that only Hiei could hear.
Hiei's heart felt a pang of guilt, he felt that he should've been there when his close and only friend has been shot, he thought he could've saved him before he perished but most of all, he felt sorry for Rei, she was so innocent and fragile yet, so strong-willed and brave at the same time, she reminded him much of his sister,Yukina and that is why Hiei is very fond of Rei.
"You aren't alone, look at me Rei, are you alone?" Hiei said firmly, his ruby red eyes penetrating Rei's smokey grey ones.
"..But what if you leave like daddy did? I don't want to lose another person I love a lot...If I lose you, I don't think I could take it."
Hiei's eyes widen, he has never been loved by another before since his mother, Hina and after he was exiled, he thought he would never be loved again, but now, Rei seemed to renew his lonely and cold heart by saying those warm hearted choice of words.
"I won't leave, not even King Yama can take me away from you and that is a promise Rei, as a fire demon, I always keep my promises no matter what.."
Rei's hazy grey eyes brightened happily, she threw her arms around Hiei's neck and buried her head into the crook of his neck, nuzzling lighlty.
"Arigato Hiei-san, that made me feel better.." Rei said softly, sighing contendedly.
Hiei hesistantly wrapped his arms around the half ookami/vixen, stroking her long wavy silver hair. Rei looked a lot like her father, with her silver hair and three silver fox tails, the only diffrence was her animalistic black wolf ears and hazy grey eyes inheirted from her mother, other than that she looked like a fallen angel.
'..I must be growing soft, I never acted kind torwards anyone I've encountered before...untill now..so why am I acting this way? Especially torwards the kitsune's daughter..'
Hiei and Rei stayed in that position for awhile, neither one of them wanted to let go, but they would never admit that, so they held on as long as they could. Hiei averted his gaze torwards the night sky, the crescent moon was starting to sink so dawn would be coming around eventually. Then Hiei felt Rei's body go limp into his. Rei had fell asleep in the embrace. Hiei faintly smiled, although no one may notice it.
'She must've been exhausted, I don't blame her..she witnessed her father's death, also the death of the bounty hunter whom I killed in anger, Kami-sama, she must've been horrified to see all that blood..her face was as pale as a ghost.'
Then very gently, Hiei moved Rei back into his lap, holding her body close to his protectively. Hiei looked down at her, she looked so defensless and innocent while she was asleep especially since Rei had a small smile on her face. Hiei sighed and laid back against the tree to get a few hours sleep, then a gentle wind passed through the sky and Hiei sworn he heard his friend's voice passing through.
'Take good care of her untill I come back, but untill then, Sayanora Hiei.'
'Sayanora Kurama...and Arigato Rei for being so kind to me....Aishiteru.'
Then very slowly, Hiei fell asleep with Rei in his arms and as far as Hiei knows, it was the best sleep he had in a long time.
