Angel in the Darkness

DG32173

Well, I'm feeling much better now than I have been all week. That's interesting.

Kurama: why?

DG: because all week I've been very sad because my mom and I have been getting into a lot of fights. I don't understand why my mom is trying to get me angry. That's not like her.

Kurama: hm.

DG: well, since you're here, will you do the disclaimer please?

Kurama: sure. DG only owns her ideas and her characters. She doesn't own YYH, though she wishes she did.

DG: thanks. Well, here's the summary, the odd info, and the story. Later!

Chapter 1

The Finding

Amy is walking through the thick forest that she has lived with her sisters in for as long as she can remember. Which is practically her whole life. She is thinking about nothing while enjoying the scenery. Then she smells blood on the wind. `Who's fighting? I wish I could have a fight soon; I haven't fought anyone in several months. And I don't count arguing with my sisters as a fight,' she thinks. She decides to follow the scent of blood.

She soon comes to a small clearing, where she sees a short guy fighting a large and ugly demon. She watches silently. Then the demon makes a swipe at the guy. The guy blocks with his katana. But he doesn't notice that one of the demons other arms is about to attack from behind him. `Cheating, eh?' she thinks, watching the demon's claws scratch long and deep wounds across the guy's back. The guy just grunts, and goes back to attacking the demon.

Soon, the demon is gone. Then the guy faints. And she finally gets a good look at him. He stands about five foot. He has black hair standing straight up that has a white starburst in it. His eyes are closed, but while he was fighting, she saw that he had crimson red eyes. He's wearing a black cloak over a black tank-top and black pants. He has a white scarf around his neck, even though it's not all that cold. He also has a white bandana around his forehead.

She's about to leave him for dead, when he groans. "Alive? Hm … he must be a demon. I guess I'll take him to the house and fix him up. He wouldn't survive long out here with those wounds," she says, going over to him. She studies his face for a moment, and then picks him up like he weighs no more than a feather. "You don't weigh much for your size," she tells his unconscious form. "And you're four inches taller than me. That's sad."

She carries him awkwardly to her home, which is only about a mile away. When she gets there, she sees that her sisters aren't home yet. She shrugs slightly and nudges the door open with her foot. She carries him to her room, which is right next to the bathroom. She lays him on her bed and goes and gets a few towels, a bucket of water, and the first aid kit. When she gets back to her room, she sees that he's awake. "Awake? I thought you'd be out for a day at the least, demon boy," she says, walking to where he can see her. Suddenly, she feels his katana at her neck. "Go ahead, kill me. But that won't clean up those wounds on your back."

"Hn. Where am I?" he demands.

"My home that I share with my sisters, who aren't here right now. Oh, and nice fight," she says. "Now turn around and take of that cloak and shirt. Or I'll do it for you."

"Why should I?" he says. "And who are you?"

"Name's Amy, and you should so I can at least bandage your wounds. And now that I've told you my name, it's only right that you tell me yours," she says.

He hesitates. "Hiei," he says finally.

***Hiei's POV***

When I say my name, she smiles. What's with this damn onna? And how does she know I'm a demon?

"First, I know you're a demon because no human would be able to survive with wounds like the ones you have on your back. And I'm not damned," she says. I stare at her shocked. Did she read my mind? She laughs. `She has a very pretty laugh. What? No! I can't think like that,' I think. "I didn't read your mind, if that's what you're thinking. Your thoughts were very evident in your eyes, for one who knows what to look for," she says. "Now, are you going to turn around and take off your shirt and cloak, or do I have to force you?"

"Hn," I say. I do as she says, for I don't feel like fighting with her.

"Good," she says. "This may hurt a little, but don't flinch." She dips something in her water bucket and then starts to wash my back. When my back is finally clean of blood, she opens something. A few moments later, a cold cream is put on my back. She starts to spread it around and into my wounds with her hands.

***normal POV***

Amy gently works the antibacterial cream into the wounds on his back. `Without all the blood, his back doesn't look half bad,' she thinks. Then her eyes widen as she realizes what she thought. `No, no, no! I can't be thinking like that. Even though he is … no! Must stop thinking like that!' she thinks, still working the antibacterial cream into the wounds. He tenses as she gets the cream into his wounds, but doesn't flinch like her sisters would. Finally, she starts wrapping up his wounds so they don't get infected. "Done," she says, when she finally finishes, though she didn't mind working on his wounds. He turns around and seems to study her. "What?" she asks, confused by his actions. She could see the thanks in his eyes. She can also see more emotions in his eyes that she has seen many times before in her reflection's eyes. Hurt, pain, sadness, and loneliness. "You have no need to thank me. I'm going to be a healer when I get older. So I might as well get used to blood. And I can't seem to leave someone unless I'm sure they're dead. Besides, I could use someone to talk to."

***Hiei's POV***

`What does she mean by that? And why was there pain in her eyes when she said that? Why do I care?' I think. I can't seem to stop looking at her violet eyes. She seems very confused and hurt. A black lock of hair with a hint of silver falls into her eyes, and she brushes it away absentmindedly, her eyes not straying from mine.

Then we hear a door slam open. "AMY! WHERE ARE YOU?!" we hear a loud feminine voice scream from somewhere else in the house.

***normal POV***

Amy flinches at her sister's loud mouth. "I'm in my room, Caroline!" she calls to the smart one of her family.

A girl with long red hair appears in her doorway two seconds later. "What are you … oh. Who's this?" the girl says, her green eyes sparkling with laughter.

"Hiei, this is my sister, Caroline. Caroline, this is Hiei. I found him in the forest with a lot of wounds," Amy says, apparently annoyed by her sister. "I brought him here to bandage him up."

"Oh, okay," Caroline says, her eyes wandering to the bandages around his torso. "Was he in a fight?" she asks.

Amy doesn't answer. She starts to clean up the mess that was in her room from cleaning his wounds. "Where are the others?" Amy asks her sister, still ignoring the question.

"Kelly went somewhere with a friend of hers, and Arina wandered off on the way home, saying something about being late for training or something," Caroline says. "And you haven't answered my question, Amy."

"Does it matter?" Amy says coldly, pushing past her sister.

"Well, I guess not," Caroline says, confused by her sister's actions. She turns back to Hiei. "Do you know what her problem is?" she asks. He shrugs. "I suppose not," Caroline says, sighing. She looks in the direction that her sister went, sadness in her eyes. "She's been like that since our parents died. She barely leaves the forest. But whenever the others or I get hurt, she is always there to heal us. It is only when she's helping someone that her true emotions show through," Caroline sighs, and turns back to Hiei. "She hates feeling weak. And she can't stand being around others. She acts like nothing can hurt her, but I can hear her crying every night. Heart-wrenching cries that tear at the very soul of all who hear them. I think she misses our parents more than the others and I would ever know. She needs a friend. But every time the others or I suggest her go out and find one, she scoffs us like we're crazy or something. She thinks that friends are for weaklings, and love makes one even weaker." Caroline looks away. "Don't tell her I told you this, please. She'll probably get ticked."

"Why are you telling me all this?" Hiei asks, confused about the girl's actions.

"I just thought maybe she could warm up to you. She hardly ever stays with those she heals after she's done all she can do. I think she likes you," Caroline says, smiling sadly. Then they hear a door open. "I gotta go. I'll see you around, perhaps?"

"Hn," he says.

Caroline nods and leaves. Amy walks into the room, looking at the way her sister had gone. "What all did she tell you?" Amy asks. "And don't lie to me. I can tell very easily when someone's lying."

"Why don't you ask her?" Hiei says.

Amy shrugs. "You can't get anything out of her when she doesn't want you to know something," she says. He looks at her, and their eyes lock. She can't seem to move her eyes, nor could he. He notices the look of hurt and loneliness in the girl's eyes. She notices the same in his. Then they hear a knock on the front door, and the spell is broken.

"I got it, Amy," Caroline's voice could be heard. The sound of a door opening can be heard. "Oh, hi, Kurama! How'd you find your way here?" they hear her voice say.

Hiei seems to jump at the name. `Kurama? Oh, no!' Hiei thinks. `He is gonna sense me for sure.'

Amy looks at him. "I'm looking for a friend of mine," they hear a soft spoken male voice say. "His name is Hiei. I think I sense his energy around here."

"Oh, you mean that guy my sister found is a friend of yours?" Caroline asks. "She found him in the forest with some wounds."

"Really?" the male says, amusement very evident in his voice.

"Yes, that's what she says. Come in," Caroline says.

"Thank you," the guy says. They hear the door close.

"Her room is down the hall, third door on the left," Caroline says.

A few moments later, a guy with long red hair and green eyes appears at Amy's door. He looks a lot like Amy's sister, Caroline. His eyes hold a hint of amusement. "Hello, Hiei," he says.

"What do you want, fox?" Hiei says, seeming very stubborn all of a sudden.

"Koenma has a mission for us, and he wants these girls to come with us to Genkai's," the red head says. "Hello, my name is Kurama. What's yours?" he says to Amy.

"Amy," she says coldly.

"Where are your other sisters?" Kurama asks, ignoring her tone. But of course, he's dealt with Hiei's coldness for quite a long time.

Amy shrugs. "All I know is what Caroline knows. Kelly is somewhere with a friend of hers and Arina went to get training from her sensei," Amy says coldly. "Of course, who Arina trains with is not my business, so I don't know where she goes train."

"Shall we be going?" Kurama asks.

She turns. "I'm going with Hiei," she says, turning toward him.

Hiei glares at her, but she can tell that he is secretly happy that she chose to go with him. He grabs his shirt and cloak and puts them on. Then, he turns to the window, to find that she is already there and opening it. "I prefer to go in and out of windows," she says. "Doors are a waste of time. It's faster to go through windows, unless your weighed down by something or someone." She opens the window and goes out. She waits for Hiei to get out and then lowers the window again. "Shall we be going?" she asks, turning to him.

"Hn, try to keep up," he says, taking off toward Genkai's. She runs after him, catching up to him in moments. He looks at her, amazed that she could keep up.

"I'm part demon," she says. "All of us sisters have a different dad from each other. But we all had a ningen for a mother. What a waste. Ningens are weaklings," she mutters the last two sentences, knowing that Hiei heard her. "Let's see, Caroline's second youngest, and a kitsune; Arina is the oldest, and won't tell us what she is; Kelly is second oldest, and is a darkness demon; and then there's me. The youngest and a three way breeding," she says, hating her breeding. "Stupid bitch that was my mother couldn't seem to stay with one guy for very long. Luckily, she died when she and my dad got in a car crash. Stupid bitch was drunk and decided to drive home. Dad was also drunk, and he let her. And now he's dead."

`She seems like there are tears in her eyes. Wonder why?' Hiei thinks. Then he realizes what he just thought. `No. I can't go and fall in love. Love is for the weak.'

"Dad was the only one who I could love. And now I realize that if it weren't for love, he'd still be alive. Love is for weaklings; and I'm stronger than that," she says, not realizing she mirrored his thoughts. She is staring straight ahead, watching where they were going. She doesn't realize that he's looking at her. Small tears are falling down her cheeks. Before they leave her face, they are crystallizing into silver tear gems, which she catches before they hit the ground and puts into her pocket.

`She's part ice demon?' he thinks. Then, he turns to look straight ahead. `Wonder what her third part is?' he thinks, truly wondering what her third part was.

Soon, they come to a huge staircase, which they run up together. At the top is a huge temple. She looks at it. It reminded her of one that her father had told her about when she was younger and he was still alive. She feels tears coming to her eyes again, and quickly crushes them. She can't let anyone know that she cries. She knows that her sisters hear her crying at night, but no one else shall ever know unless her sisters decide to tell them. Suddenly, Arina and Kelly step out from inside the temple. They see her. "AMY?!" they cry out, running to her.

"What are you doing here?" Arina asks, stopping in front of her sister.

"I was brought here to see Koenma," Amy says sullenly, suddenly very unhappy about her sisters being here. "Question is, what are you two doing here?"

Arina suddenly rubs the back of her neck, her long black hair swaying gently in the breeze, her chocolate brown eyes slightly confused. "This is where I come to train. Master Genkai decided to train me when I suddenly found her temple one day a few years back," she says.

Kelly blushes faintly. Her orange hair coming just below her shoulders and her dark eyes wide. "My friend brought me here when some guy called Kurama came and told him to come here and bring me," she says, blushing a very soft pink.

Amy catches the blush. "What are you blushing about?" she asks, smirking.

"Yes, Kelly, that's what I'd like to know," Arina says, turning to her younger sister.

"Nothing!" she says, a little too quickly. Then, Caroline and Kurama come up the steps, talking softly. "Hey Caroline!" Kelly calls to the red head.

"Oh, hi! What are you guys doing here?" Caroline asks Arina and Kelly.

Kelly blushes slightly. "This is where I train with Master Genkai," Arina says. "A friend of Kelly's brought her here."

"So, all the girls are here," an age-roughened voice says from behind Kelly and Arina.

Arina whirls around and bows to a small lady with faded pink hair. "Yes, Master Genkai. These are my sisters, Amy and Caroline. You've already met Kelly," Arina says, pointing to the girls.

"Well, no sense staying out here and getting sick. Come in," Genkai says, motioning for the girls to come in.

Only then did Amy notice that it was raining. `Odd, I usually notice weather changes,' she thinks looking up at the clouds. She loves the rain.

Amy trails behind the others. Hiei turns and looks at her when he noticed that she wasn't with the group. "Are you coming, onna?" he asks.

"Yeah, I guess," she says, not really wanting to go in. She really wanted to stay outside and dance in the rain. She follows Hiei into the old temple. She glances around cautiously, getting her bearings. They were in a large living room. There were two other guys that she hadn't met. They are playing a video game. One has slicked back black hair and chocolate brown eyes; and the other has orange hair and black eyes.

She leans lightly against the wall, noticing that Hiei had almost automatically moved to the windowsill and sat there, looking out. She smiles softly. `So he likes to watch people without them knowing he's watching, eh? Just like me,' she thinks. She knows that if it's dark enough outside and bright enough inside, then one can watch others in the room that they are in while seeming to look out the window. And it's very dark outside. Then she frowns slightly. `Now why did I think that? I don't usually think about others and compare them to me. I must be getting sick or something.'

Suddenly, a loud pop, and in front of the two guys playing video games is a teen with brown hair and a pacifier in his mouth. All the girls had met him before. "HEY!" the gamers yell. They lean over to the side so that they can continue playing their game.

"Hello, baby," Amy says, frowning at the teen.

He anime falls. "AMY!" he yells. The gamers are laughing at the way he fell. Arina and Kelly start to laugh as well. Caroline and Kurama are hiding smiles. She sees in the window that Hiei is smirking. The teen gets up. "HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO TELL YOU NOT TO CALL ME THAT?!"

She appears to think. "How many times have you told me already?" she ponders.

"Over a million times!" Koenma says automatically.

"Then try a billion more, and then maybe it'll get through my head," she says. Then she smirks. "But there are a million more names I could call you. Such as pacifier breath, little boy, kid, … ."

"ENOUGH ALREADY!" Koenma yells.

"Just tell us what you want, and then I can go home," Amy says, frowning.

"I'm afraid that you girls will have to stay here and train," Koenma says.

Amy's frown deepens. "What do you mean by that?" she growls.

Koenma sweatdrops. Amy is very scary when she's mad. And she's getting mad right now. "What I mean is that you girls will have to help these guys on their next mission," Koenma says.

Yusuke and Arina both start to protest. "WHAT! HELP THAT WEAKLING?!" they yell simultaneously, pointing at the other. Then they notice what they were doing. "I'M NOT WEAK! YOU'RE THE WEAKLING! QUIT MIMICING ME!"

Everyone else sweatdrops. "I think you two should cut it out," Caroline says softly. "Besides, we are counterparts to the guys."

This time, everyone stares at her. Amy's and Hiei's eyes both narrow dangerously. "What do you mean by that, dear sister?" Amy questions in a very scary, very deadly voice.

All three of the other girls back up from her. They know that when Amy says "dear sister" to one of them, then she is very ticked at that one. Caroline sweatdrops. She never had Amy mad at her before. It is usually one of the other two that Amy gets ticked at. "Haven't you noticed that we each look like one of the others?" Caroline questions her sisters. That's when everyone notices that. "Like I look a lot like Kurama, Arina looks a lot like Yusuke, …" she starts.

But before she could finish, she is interrupted yet again by Yusuke and Arina. "WE LOOK NOTHING ALIKE!" they scream at her.

Caroline sweatdrops again. Amy takes this point to interrupt them before they could hurt Caroline. That was her personal job, protecting her sisters from each other as well as others. "Get a mirror, you two," she says coldly. "If Arina were to cut her hair and gel it, then you two could be classified as identical twins, even though you neither one are biologically related. And you guys aren't the same gender." They stare at her. She smirks. "You may continue, Caroline."

"Thanks," Caroline says, smiling at her younger sister. Amy just glares at her. Caroline takes a breath and continues. "Kelly and Kuwabara look a lot a like, and Hiei and Amy do as well. If we girls were to style our hair like you guys, then we could be twins," she says. She looks at the others. Then she notices that both Hiei and Amy had disappeared. The curtains by the window that Hiei was sitting in were blowing gently, and then settle down again. "I don't think Hiei or Amy liked that comparison," she says.

Everyone notices that the two had disappeared. "I haven't even told you all the mission!" Koenma cries.

"We could fill them in when they get back," Caroline says, smiling at the prince.

"Alright," Koenma says, grumpily.

~~~with Amy~~~
`Why did she have to say it like that?!' Amy wonders, walking through the rain. `At least there's no lightning. I guess I could go to the hot springs I noticed earlier.'
She follows a small, almost invisible trail through the woods to some hot springs she had found a few weeks ago. She glances around, making sure that no one is watching. Then she quickly strips and dives in the hot water. She surfaces and lays her head back against the ground on the side of the hot spring she had chosen. She knows that Hiei had followed her; she can sense his ki in the woods around the hot spring. She decides to scare him some. She can hold her breath for at least ten minutes when she goes underwater. She ducks her head underwater and waits.
~~~with Hiei~~~

`Why am I following her?' he thinks. He notices that she had gone underwater. He waits for her to come back up. But she doesn't. `What's going on?' he thinks. He takes off his cloak and shirt and dives in after her.

But he can't find her. When he comes back up, he sees her sitting on a rock beside the hot spring. "Why'd you follow me, Hiei?" she asks lazily, as if she really couldn't care if he answered her or not. Then he notices that she already has on her clothes. He remembers what she looked like before she dove into the hot spring. He feels a bit of a blush creep across his nose. "You're a pervert, you know?" He climbs up onto the rock beside her. "Why were you watching me bath?" she asks, turning to him.

"I'm not a pervert," he growls.

She smiles. She knows that she had hit a nerve. "Then why were you watching me bath? I call that perverted," she says. She starts to say more, when he shuts her up the only way he knows how: kissing her. `Why'd he? Oh, he's good … what am I thinking? Bad thoughts!' she thinks. She feels him smirk while he deepens the kiss. She gasps when his hand slips down her side. His tongue slips into her mouth very fast.

***Hiei's POV***

`What am I doing?' I think. Then a scent floods my nose. It smells of pine and strawberries. Then I realize that its her! `Oh god! Mating season!' I think.

***regular POV***

Amy suddenly realizes why she is letting Hiei kiss her. `Mm … he smells like pine and cherries,' she thinks. Then she blinks. `Oh dear god! Mating season already! Oh help me! Mm …this is so good.'

She feels him raising her shirt to slip his hands under it. Then she notices that it's not raining on them. She notices that they had somehow moved into a cave near the hot springs. She slips her arms around his neck, pulling him closer to her and deepening the kiss. Suddenly, a lightning bolt hits the ground nearby. A huge boom startles them.

They suddenly realize what they are doing, and jump apart really fast. They are both breathing hard. They look away from each other, both wondering if the other would be mad at them, but neither of their prides allowing them to apologize. They sit there for a while, neither looking at the other. Amy looks out at the rain. It's coming down really hard. "It was raining like this when they died," she says softly, watching the rain fall.

"Who?" Hiei says, turning to her.

"My parents. I remember what happened right before they left. My mom and I had a huge argument, and she dragged dad into it. Dad got mad at both of us. Mom went after him when he went to a bar to drink away his anger. They both ended up getting drunk. Dad had taken the only car, so my mom had to walk to the bar to find him. The last thing I ever said to them was that I hated them. And I regret it to this day. And there's nothing I can do to apologize to them," she murmurs, entranced by the rain and her memories.

She is quiet for a long time, silver tear gems clinking to the cave floor every few minutes. Hiei gets enough of the silence. He tears off his headband and opens his Jagan. He looks into her mind.

~~~Amy's memories~~~
"YOU'RE A BITCH!" a younger Amy yells at a lady with blonde hair and sky blue eyes.
Then a tall man walks in on them. He looks a lot like Amy, with shoulder length black hair that has silver streaks and violet eyes. "What's going on?" he asks.
"Jeremy, tell Amy to be quiet!" the lady says to the man.
"DON'T DRAG HIM INTO THIS, BITCH!" the girl yells. The lady turns and slaps her, leaving a red handprint on her cheek.
"Anna! Stop this!" the guy called Jeremy says, grabbing the arm of the lady as she raises her arm again to slap Amy. "What's going on here?"
"That girl snuck into the knives again!" Anna says. "Look at her arms if you don't believe me!"
Jeremy looks at his daughter's cut and very bloody arms. "Amy? Why?" he asks, looking very hurt.
Amy bursts into tears, against her will. Her tears clatter to the floor the floor as silver tear gems. "WHY DO YOU THINK?!" she yells. "WHY DO YOU THINK? YOU ALL HATE ME! I'M A MISTAKE! I SHOULDN'T HAVE EVER BEEN BORN!" She turns away, her tear gems still falling fast. "I HATE EVERYONE! JUST LEAVE ME ALONE! I DON'T WANT TO BE HERE ANY MORE!!" she yells, and runs away to her room.
Jeremy turns and slaps his wife. "WHAT DID YOU DO TO HER?!" he yells at her. "WHY DO YOU TELL HER SUCH THINGS?!"
Anna's eyes filled up with tears. "Why do you think? You love that girl more than you love me! Like all the other girls' fathers! You all love your offspring more than any of you ever loved me!" she yells.
They didn't know that Amy had just run around the corner and listened in to their conversation. She winces when she hears her beloved dad slapping her mom. Then a door slams. She looks around the corner, her dad had left and her mom was running after him. She looks down. It's her fault that this happened. She knew she should never have been born. Then her mom and dad wouldn't be fighting.
~a few hours later~
A knock came at the door. "I got it!" Caroline yells. She pulls open the door when her sisters walk into the room. There are two officers at the door. A sudden dread fills the hearts of all four girls. "May I help you officers?" Caroline asks politely, very confused at the sudden appearance of the police.
"Is this the home of Anna and Jeremy Hinso?" one of them asks, sadness in her voice.
"Yes?" Amy says, coming up to the door, and looking at her older sisters.
"I'm sorry, but your parents are dead," the other one says, his voice soft.
Amy looks normal, but inside, her world is being torn apart. `Mom and Dad? Dead?' she thinks, her world going dead. `Why? Is it my fault? Why is everything always my fault? I wish I could go back in time, so that I can apologize to them…'
~~~out of Amy's mind~~~

Hiei finally frees his mind from hers. He looks at her softly. She has tears in her eyes, and a lot of silver tear gems on the floor around her. He places a hand on her arm. "Huh?" she says, shaking her head clear of the memories. "Oh, sorry," she says softly. She looks away, her eyes looking very sad.

He turns her head back to face him. `She looks pained,' he thinks, looking into her violet eyes. `Does she blame herself for everything?'

He kisses her gently, but pulls back after a moment. She raises a hand to her lips, almost shocked about what happened. She looks at him, pure loneliness and a bit of sadness in her eyes, like she is waiting for him to leave her any minute. He feels his heart tearing apart at the look. `Why is this happening? What is this feeling?' he thinks, unable to comprehend why he did that. She looks out the entrance of the cave. "It's stopped raining," she says softly. She looks back at him, her eyes already setting up the mask of indifference that she showed the world. But he knew she was anything BUT indifferent. "We should go. The others are probably wondering what happened to us," she says, standing up. Her silver cloak flowed around her like it was being blown by a wind. But he felt no wind. He pulls her cloak so that she falls down on top of him. She looks confused. "Why … ?"

He stops her by kissing her. She feels like something was going on that he doesn't want to talk about. She gasps as his hands find their way around her waist. His tongue darts into her mouth a second time. Her hands find their way around his neck, pulling him closer to her. As he pulls his tongue out of her mouth, she sneaks her tongue into his mouth. He opens his eyes slightly, to see that she has her eyes closed. Then he closes his eyes again, and leans into the kiss. He rolls so that she was under him. He put out an arm so that he didn't hurt her with his weight. He pulls her shirt up over her head. They only broke the kiss so that the shirt could come off. He quickly pulls off his shirt, and then their lips are locked again.

She pushes up against him and notices that he is startled by her action. She quickly flips so that he's under her. Her hands sliding against the bandages on his back gently, checking the wounds. They're closed already. So she gently pulls the bandages off of him, `accidentally' brushing her hands against his bare skin. He shivers in delight at the touch. He quickly flips again as soon as she finishes taking off his bandages. Now she's on the bottom again.

"Hey, Kurama! Have you found them yet?!" they hear Yusuke yell from a little ways away.

"Not yet!" they hear Kurama call back from somewhere nearby.

"Where can they have gotten off to?" they hear Caroline say. She seems to be near Kurama. "Thanks to the rain, I can't track their scents."

They quickly push apart. {We'll finish this later, onna,} Hiei says in her mind.

She nods. {I'll be waiting,} she says back.

They quickly gather up their clothes and get dressed. Hiei peeks out using his Jagan eye. {Great, the foxes are near the hot springs,} he says to her, but gently. He knows now how fragile this girl is. Though she puts on a tough front and acts uncaring, she really just wants a friend that she can trust.

She nods slightly. {I could cast a hologram of our scent in a different direction,} she offers.

{Do it,} he says. She nods and closes her eyes.

"Wait!" Caroline says softly, sniffing the air. "I got a faint scent coming from deeper in the forest. It smells like my sister."

"Let's go then," Kurama says.

Hiei watches with his Jagan as they run deeper into the forest. He turns and sees that Amy is looking at him. "You're a Jaganshi?" she asks softly. He nods. "Wow."

`She's seems excited,' he thinks. "Let's go before they realize you tricked them," he says, pulling her with him.

She nods. "Let's see who can get back first," she whispers.

He turns and smirks. "I'll win," he says confidently.

"Oh, really?" she asks, smirking as well. And she then runs toward the temple.

{Cheater,} he says in her mind as he chases her. She jumps through a darkened raised window just seconds before him.

"I win," she says, smiling at him as he leaps through the same window. "Wow, nice place," she says, looking around the room that was decorated with black and had swords and knives on the walls.

"This is my room," he says, smirking. `So, she likes it?' he thinks. He quickly closes the window. `Good thing it's still raining, those foxes won't be able to figure out that we tricked them until much later.'

"Cool," she says. She then falls backward on the bed. "Mm. Comfy!" she says, her eyes closed, her face with a look of pure pleasure. He smirks. He then climbs on top of her. She opens her eyes, violet meeting ruby red. She smiles gently. Then they both yawn. "Hm. Guess we're tired," she says, smiling at him. Then her eyes slowly close and her breathing slowing down.

"She's asleep," he says softly. He picks her up and carries her carefully to the room next to his. It is decorated similar to his, minus the weapons on the walls. He sets her in the bed and turns to go. Then he feels his cape be caught in her hand. He turns and sees her, leaning on an elbow and smirking at him.

"I fool everyone with that trick," she says, smirking. Then she pouts. "Do you have to go?" she asks sadly.

"No," he says, smirking. He gets in the bed beside her.

She smiles and kisses his cheek. Then she puts her head on his chest, listening to his heartbeat. She smiles at him and truly falls asleep this time, his heartbeat lulling her into a peaceful sleep. He smirks and wraps his arms around her. He then goes to sleep with her. Neither of them notices two pairs of smiling green eyes watching through the window.

~~~outside in the rain~~~
"Aw," Caroline says softly. She turns to Kurama, smiling. "They're asleep together."
Kurama smiles. "That's good. Hiei needs a friend," he says softly.
"As with Amy," Caroline says. She feels Kurama's arm wrap around her waist. She looks up at him. He kisses her gently. They both look in the window one last time. Then they go back around the temple and go inside.
As they step through the front door, they see that Kuwabara and Kelly are asleep and leaning against each other. Yusuke and Arina are still arguing with each other.
Caroline shakes her head slightly at the two. "Are you two gonna stay up all night and argue?" she asks the two. They turn to her. "It's about two in the morning. We're going to bed, goodnight."
Caroline and Kurama walk down the hall to their rooms. He kisses her goodnight and they go into the rooms.
