[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]
for my cousin Tikal, enjoy.
After their latest mission...
“I guess you won’t trust me hu?” Rieko said.
“Should I?” replied Kurama.
Rieko thinks, “Why the hell was he smiling? I almost got my self and the team killed and the idiot is smiling. What the hell is wrong with this stupid kitsune?” There was a knock at the door.
“Who is it?” asked Shesakie. “Oh! Hello Tikal. Come in. Shuuichi and Hoshie are up stairs. You know which room.”
“Thank you Mrs. Heroshima.” answered Tikal.
The young kitsune walked up stairs and into Rieko’s room. Kurama was at her desk and Rieko was lying on her bed, staring at the ceiling.
“Hello Kurama.” said Tikal as she closed the door so the three demons could have some privacy.
“Hello Tikal-san. How are you?” Kurama answered.
Rieko looked at Tikal and smirked. The young kitsune and old ookami were always finding new way to annoy each other. For the time being that something was Kurama.
“Hello Tikal.” Rieko said with a playful tone.
“So, Kurama, what’s up?” Tikal said, ignoring Rieko’s hello.
“Nothing, Tikal.” said Rieko before Kurama could open his mouth, “What do you want?”
“I was asking Kurama, ookami!” said Tikal, with an annoyed tone.
Just to let you readers know, Kurama has no idea about the little contest between his two youki friends. There was another knock at the door.
Shesakie answered it, “Hello. Shuuichi, Hoshie, and Tikal are upstairs.” she said to the rest of the reikai team.
The boys went upstairs to Rieko’s room to find their three youki friends. Hiei and Kuwabara were at each other’s throats once they got in the door. Yusuke laughed it up as he took a set next to Rieko, who was now sitting up to look at her friends, on her bed.
“So, Yusuke, what’s up?” Rieko asked.
“You mean you don’t know?” replied Yusuke.
“Know what?” sounded Tikal.
“Let me guess, another mission from Koenma?” said Kurama.
“Ding! We have a winner!” said Yusuke, sarcastically.
“Well, what is it this time?” asked Tikal.
“I don’t know. Boton hasn’t shown up with the tape yet.” Yusuke shot back.
“I wonder were she is? I hope she’s OK.” said Kuwabara.
There was yet another knock, only this time at the window. It was Boton. Hiei walked over to let her in.
“Speak of the devil.” said Rieko.
“Hey, Boton? Did you get the tape?” asked Yusuke.
“Yes, Yusuke. Sorry I’m so late. Koenma misplaced it again.” she apologized.
“Could we please watch it now. The sooner we start, the sooner we can come back home.” said Kurama.
“Home? Don’t you think that depends on your definition of home, Kurama?” said Hiei, rather coldly.
“Watch it Hiei!” Tikal and Rieko said, in unison.
The two youki looked at each other, with in two seconds they were arguing about who said it first, then escalate to insults, then to an all out, weapons drawn fight.
“Hey, could you two stop that! We’re trying to watch a tape here!” shouted Yusuke.
The girls halted their little quarrel after hearing some rude comment from Hiei and seeing Kurama blush.
“Hello. This is Koenma speaking. Your next mission is to travel to the Makai and rescue this apparition. *flashes to a picture of a young girl with blue eyes and black hair.* Her name is Yume. She is being held captive by a power hungry demon called Inu. This mission won’t be easy so I’m counting on all of you to get this done. *flash to picture of castle were Yume is being held.* Boton will drop you off. Good luck. Koenma out.”
“Wow! She’s pretty.” said Kuwabara.
“Hey, aren’t you going out with Yukina?” said Yusuke.
Hiei rolls his eyes and goes for his katana.
“Can we get going?” asked Tikal.
Hiei turns to look at the kitsune. She was obviously trying to avoid a large fight. He smirked and took his hand from the blade. After the reikai team left for their mission Kurama scolded his two youki friends on how they could act so childish, especially Rieko since she was older and more experienced than Tikal.
“I’m sorry Kurama-kun.” said Tikal, with a big smile.
She turns to glare at the ookami standing next to him. Once his back was turned Rieko shook a fist at Tikal, indicating a challenge.
At the castle,
“Could they have made this place any bigger?” joked Yusuke.
“Be serious, Yusuke.” said Rieko, coldly glareing at the detective.
“Geeze, Rieko. Just lightening the mood here. Sorry if I’m not Mr. Cautious.”said Yusuke.
“You obviously have no idea of what we’re up against, do you?” Rieko said, in her usual, calm, matter-o-fact tone.
“And you do?” said Hiei, a glare in his eyes.
“As a matter of fact...” Rieko starts.
She sees Hiei going for his katana and imediately takes a deffencive stance. Yusuke and Kurama see this and rush to break up their two comrades. Yusuke steps on front of Hiei and Kurama puts his hand on Rieko’s shoulder.
“Come on. Let’s get this over with.” said Yusuke, calmly.
The reikai team walks over the draw bridge and into the inner gate room. Meanwhile, up in one of the castle towers,
“So, they’ve finaly sent some one to get you, Yume. I think they do care wether you live of not.” said Inu with a laugh.
“Why would any one care about me?” said a girl tied to a chair behind him.
“You tell me.” Inu replied.
“They are a strange group aren’t they?” said Yume, trying to change the subject.
“Yes. Three Youki, two humans and an apparition. Very strange.” Inu complied.
He knew she didn’t want to talk to him about her personal life. He had been pecking away at it though. Little by little he would drag the information out of her.Why he would want to know that was any one’s guess. Back at the gate,
“This is to easy, way to easy.” said Yusuke.
“Yes. I’m surprised we haven’t been attacked yet.” said Kurama.
“You know, this place looks familiar.” said Kuwabara.
“I’ve noticed. It looks a lot like the gate of betrayle in maze castle.” said Yusuke.
“Let’s hope it’s not the same. You remember how we got out the last time.” said Hiei.
“Hey! Did you feel that?” said Tikal.
“Fell what?” said Yusuke.
“We’re being followed.” said Kuwabara.
The group turns around to see nothing there. Kuwabara gives a shiver and Rieko walks back aways in the gate room.
“There’s no one here?” said Rieko, who was slightly confused.
There was a loud roar form the end of the room.
“Let’s get out of here!” shouts Yusuke.
The reikai Team busts out into a run for the end of the room. There’s a loud screach above them.
“The ceiling!” shouts Kurama.
The reikai team looks up.
“Not again!” says Yusuke.
Just before they get to the end of the room the ceiling gives way. The reikai team catches it but the weight is unbearable.
“This is just great!” says Yusuke, grinding his teeth.
“How do we get out of this one, detective?” said Hiei, sarcasum in his voice.
“I’m open to suggestions.” Yusuke replies, coldly.
“Well, well. What do we have here?” says a small bird.
“Murugu?” says Tikal.
“The one and only. How are you?” Murugu replies.
“I say we fry her, right shrimp.” shouts Kuwabara.
“And how do you suppose we do that, you idiot?” says Hiei, with a cold glare.
“What did you say, shrimp-boy?” shouts a pissed Kuwabara.
“Hey children, could we focus here?” says Yusuke.
“Hum? I wounder how long you can keep this up?” Murugu laughs.
“Shut up, you stupid bird!” shouts Yusuke.
“What are we going to do, detective?” Rieko says, trying to regain their confidence. “Yusuke?”
“This is just great! We’re all gonna die here no thanks to me.” Yusuke says to hinmself. “This is so stupid!” he screams.
“Temper, temper. No need to shout. There’s no one to hear you that can help any way.” Murugu says.
“Shut up, you stupid bird!” Yusuke screams, again.
Murugu gives a sudden shout. If you weren’t paying attention you would have missed the movement. Rieko threw a small ninja star at Murugu while Hiei ran to turn the switch on the wall across from were the rest of the reikai team was standing. Murugu falls to the ground.
“Well, I guess that settles that.” says a shocked Yusuke.
“Hey, shrimp. When did the two of you plan that?” asked Kuwabara.
“That doesn’t matter, you idiot.” said Hiei.
He starts walking away, then suddenly falls to the ground.
Murugu laughs, “I guess I should have mentioned that trap.”
Tikal runs over to examine Hiei. He has a small dart in his left leg.
“What the hell did you do?” shouts Yusuke, as he picks up the little bird.
“It wasn’t me! The traps spring on their own. I can’t controle them. Please!” pleaded Murugu.
Yusuke was about to smash Murugu into the ground when Kurama stopped him. Yusuke turned to look at his Kitsune friend. Something in Kurama’s eyes, something Yusuke hadn’t seen before, made him set down the scared, little bird. Rieko and Tikal were both helping Hiei stand, even with his efforts to push them away.
“Can we keep going. This place is creeping me out.” said Kuwabara.
“Ya. Let’s go.” Yusuke said, almost unemotionaly.
The reikai team left the gate room and headed deeper into the castle. Yusuke didn’t speak for a long time. Kuwabara anf Hiei were trying to kill each other, again. Rieko and Tikal were arguing about some random topic and Kurama... well, Kurama was walking rather slowly behind them. He was obviously deep in thought. Suddenly Kuwabara stopped and Hiei hit him in the small of the back with his fist. Kuwabara didn’t even wince from the blow but started to shake, as if he were cold.
“Hey, Kuwabara, are you OK?” asked Tikal.
Kuwabara didn’t say any thing. He continued to shake and stare at the door that appered in front of the reikai team.
“Should we knock?” Reiko joked.
Yusuke smirked. That was the first time he’d heard Reiko crack a joke since they met at Hanning Neck Island.
“Why not. Can’t hurt any thing.” Yusuke joked back.
Yusuke walked up and knocked.
“Hello. Any one home?” he said.
There was a short silence and the doors opened.
“Here already?” said Inu.
“What? Is this guy new?” Yusuke said.
The six friends, and I use the term friends lightly, walked into the room. Rieko and Tikal were at each others throughts, again. Inu laughed at them. He thought it was hillarrious that this team would fight each other during a mission like that. Yusuke turned to glare at the two youki. They stopped their little fight but continued to glare at each other.
“So le’me guess. You’re Inu.” said Yusuke.
“How observent, detective.” Inu said, coldly, and sort of happily.
Hiei rolls his eyes and, yet again, goes for his katana.
“I wouldn’t do that.” Inu says, watching Hiei.
“Why not?” asked Rieko, drawing a grass-blade sword.
Kurama drew his rose whip and Tikal stood to his left, ready to deflect an attack. Yusuke and Kuwabara sweat drop when they notice all their friends were gearing up for a fight.
“Uh? Hey aren’t we rushing things here?” says Kuwabara.
Inu laughs.
“What the hell is so damn funny?” shouts Yusuke.
The ground shakes and five preveously unseen doors open. four different species of demons and a batch of cultivated humans walk into the room.
“I had to ask.” Yusuke says to himself..
“Is all this really nessicery?” asked Yume.
Inu just laughed.
“Well that gets annoying real fast.” said Yusuke.
“Attack!” shouted Inu.
The demons surged forward. Hiei gutted a few of them before cutting the ropes holing Yume to the chair. Kurama slashed a large group with Tikal guarding behind him. Rieko gashed some more and headed straight for Inu, only to be blocked by the cultivated humans. Yusuke and Kuwabara were fighting off demons left and right trying to get to Inu. After destroying all the demons, which took a great deal of time, the team started hacking away at the cultivated humans. When the last fell, which took slightly longer than the demons, the door behind the reikai team opened and in poured a hundred Fugakie.
“Geeze. This guy went all out on this.” joked Yusuke.
The Fugakie didn’t get far before they mysteriously blew up. Yusuke turned to see that Reiko had thrown a hand full of explosive thorns at the Fugakie. The survivers flead immedeatly.
“Ha! I guess we showed them, right Urameshi?” cheered Kuwabara.
“Idiot.” Hiei said, coldly. “It was only easy because we were here. If it was just you two humans then, well, you can guess what would have happened.”
“That’s it shrimp! That’s the last time I’m gonna let you get away with...” Kuwabara starts.
He cuts off abruptly and falls to the ground. Inu blows on a small whistle hanging on a chain around his neck. Tikal, Kurama, and Rieko instantly cover their ears, screaming in pain. Hiei tries to run over to hack Inu’s head off but finds his feet tangled in a vine rapidly growing around him.
“What the hell?” shouts Yusuke.
After their latest mission...
