Yu Yu Hakusho Fan Fiction ❯ At Eachother's Throats and Hearts ❯ Chapter Two ( Chapter 2 )
Kurama shut the door to Tsukami's new room so quietly even his advanced senses couldn't pick it up, and he turned to face her.
"Kurama, Kurama, Kurama." She murmured, almost chiding. "All these years. Among humans, even."
"Tsukami, why the hell are you here?" H asked her in a calm voice ever so slightly edged in cold. She smirked slightly, this was the Kurama she knew, not warm and smiling if distant, just powerful and cold with a decent sense of humor.
"Just for the destruction of a big human city." She sighed. "Took `em fifty years to figure it out though. They gave me a choice between their top ten detective teams, or two years as a pureblooded human in Wisconsin. Spotted you in one of the profiles, or rather, your nice little façade." She smirked slightly. "I picked familiarity over Wisconsin."
"How long is your sentence?" Kurama asked darkly.
"Trying to get rid of me so soon?" She failed miserably at an innocent look and shrugged. "No idea." Kurama's eye twitched as a large sweat drop appeared on his head. "Koenma just said he'd contact me when he thought I had `morals'. He then failed to understand when I explained my morals. Oh well." She sighed.
"I guess I'm stuck with you." Kurama growled lightly. Tsukami shrugged.
"Better to be with someone you know and hate than a stranger you know you're going to hate." The wolf nodded, matter of fact-ly. "But what I don't get, is how after one, understandably large, mistake, Youko Kurama after his powers return, and now he can transform into his old self at will, he stays hidden as though he's become a human."
"Perhaps I've changed." Kurama stated coldly.
"Or, perhaps something has softened a part of you. I've seen similar changes when something like `love' steps in. Though most stories hold it between mates. So you've tasted a mother's love, and then you tried to leave it, only for this new ability to love added the capacity for guilt?" She guessed.
"Something like that I suppose." Kurama answered, opening the door to leave.
"This will indeed be interesting, Shuuichi." She exaggerated `Shuuichi'.
"Perhaps it will."
"School tomorrow?"
"Yes."
"Damn."

"AYAME! Wake up, you don't want to miss your first day at a different school, do you?" Shiori called through the locked bedroom door. Tsukami opened one bleary eye `Bets?' she thought, not sure why. The wolf sat up and stretched, and pulled her hair from the messy bun she'd had it in that night brushed it out and headed for the shower.
Kurama was awakened shortly after, fell asleep for a bit, woke up again and spazzed upon looking at his clock. He darted to the bathroom only to have the door open without his violation and to see that Tsukami, her damp hair brushed and her body wrapped tightly in a towel. Both of them flushed the color of Kurama's hair.
~*~ flashback ~*~
Youko Kurama stalked amid dense trees and denser underbrush toward the hot spring. He had carefully placed all of his seeds out of his hair and into a small sack at his waist so that he could bathe in the waters without dangerous Makai plants sprouting from his head.
He finally reached a clear patch of bank and removed his clothing of condensed Yukai energy and waded out into the steaming waters. The thick steam was like a fog around the bathing fox, though quite suddenly he spotted a figure through it, or rather, the shadow of one.
His bright amber eyes became mesmerized by this lithe figure of a female. They were only ten feet away, but he could only make out the outline of this woman, but it was enough. They were both only around waist deep in the waters, and she seemed unaware of his presence as she splashed water over her sleek form. He could see her round breasts and the beginnings of her slender hips; her hair and canine ears were dripping like faint music that her movements danced to. A breeze momentarily cleared his view. His eyes widened and he dove under the water and swam as fast as possible lest the woman, Tsukami, decide to rip off his…and then kill him. As far as he knew she'd never found out it had been him.

Kurama found himself at loss for words as only one phrase crossed his mind `So all she really did was scale her body to an average height, nothing else is different save the hair and lack of canine appendages.' Which didn't help matters, causing him to step aside as she took what was surely a full minute to allow him entrance to the bathroom, which was full of steam. He took a rather cold shower, and it wasn't for lack of hot water.
Tsukami raised a brow at the closed bathroom door, flushing faintly. She hoped she wasn't the reason for his strangeness, and entered her room, dropping the towel for a bra and panties. She slid on some black boot cut/flared pants that had been cut-off at mid-shin, showing off her impressive boots. She looked out her window at thee cloudy winter sky with a smile, putting on a simple black low-cut cotton shirt with the same sleeves as her previous days wardrobe and slid her coat over her shoulder.
Kurama had already finished eating his breakfast when she slid down the rail of the stairs.
"Ayame, would you like some breakfast?" Shiori asked in such a pleasant voice Kurama simply smiled and watched her try to react.
"Thank you Mrs. Minamino, but I'm afraid we would be late for school." Tsukami managed with a placid smile that hurt her face. She dearly wished she could kick Kurama for that amused look he had.
"All right, but please call me Shiori!" The cheery woman smiled again and turned away as the two left, humming to herself. As they stepped out the door she muttered absently, "They make such a cute couple…" and began cleaning the dishes.
"Is it absolutely necessary to wear the uniform?" Tsukami snorted. Kurama smirked.
"Oh yes, I'd almost forgotten your war against skirts." He mused. "But unless they have no uniforms left, I'm afraid I shall be seeing you in pink."
Little did Kurama think she'd taken him seriously, until he found out the uniform storage closet had caught fire.

This had come onto the announcements that played during the beginning of homeroom, after which a slightly satisfied Tsukami had strode into class with the note stating she was a new student. The teacher directed her to the spot directly behind Kurama, which was much coveted by the boy's unwanted fan club.
"Pass me your schedule." Kurama whispered just below audibility of the human ear. Tsukami slipped it under her desk to his hand where he looked at it, wrote something on it and passed it back.
"You're in every one of my classes, and what did you do to the uniform closet?!?" read Kurama's elegant handwriting.
"I'll get that little toddler!" She whispered, again just out of human hearing then a false innocent voice, "What makes you think I did it?" Tsukami smirked slightly as he made a distinct scoff. He was becoming more and more like his old self all the time.
~*~
"You set fire to the uniform closet." He hissed as they were released into the halls.
"Yet again, what makes you think it was me?" She gave a fake smile, Kurama giving her a distinctly Yoko Kurama glare. "So? I didn't like the skirt idea."
"You didn't have to burn them all." Kurama sighed. Tsukami changed the subject suddenly.
"Okay. I just got here and half the female population is glaring at me, what did I do?" Tsukami growled. Kurama looked suddenly weary.
"A few of them are mad because you kicked their boyfriends in the shin-" He began, but was cut off.
"I was gentle!"
"And the rest think you're with me." He sighed. There was a long pause in which he knew she was stifling her laughter, until she grabbed his shoulder for support and a warm tingling feeling spread from said shoulder, slightly alarming him until she removed her hand and looked at him with amusement and sniggered a bit. Had she felt that?
Tsukami now felt rather alarmed, what was that nice little tingling that had shot up her arm? Why the hell had she liked it?
