Yu Yu Hakusho Fan Fiction ❯ Atavism of the Mazoku ❯ What's This? ( Chapter 1 )

[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]

Well I did hope to finish “Flawless” before I did this fanfiction, but since “Flawless” only has about three more chapters left and it's now my only incomplete fic I decided to do this too. It's my first “M” fanfiction and I'm a bit embarrassed but I couldn't let this idea get away.

Disclaimer: I don't own Yu Yu Hakusho; I never have and most likely never will.

Please enjoy the first chapter of Atavism of the Mazoku!

Click, click, click, click, click…

Every time her fingers hit the keyboard an annoying click met his ears. He didn't understand the point of her task, why she needed to do such extensive research….

Click…

He flinched, damn computer, he thought lifting himself from her bed and turning to see her still working away on her essay. Glancing at the clock he saw he'd been napping for nearly three hours, and she was still doing that report?! The teen brushed raven bangs from his deep brown eyes, apparently while he slept his hair had gotten unruly. “Keiko,” he complained making his way over to the young woman, “I'm hungry.”

When she twisted around in the chair he met her chocolate colored eyes. He was surprised to find she wasn't annoyed with his whining, “Yusuke, want me to make you something?” She asked standing.

“Yeah,” he grinned, “I'll take the usual.”

Keiko walked over to her dresser and picked up a scrunchy to tie up her long brown hair. When she'd finished she turned around and led her companion down the steps into the diner her parents managed and owned.

“Keiko, almost done with that project?” Mr. Yukimura passed a plate to his wife with a customer's order.

“Not yet Dad, I need a break,” she continued down along the inside of the counter as Yusuke sat on the outside with the rest of the restaurant occupants. He watched her retrieve what she needed for his meal, heat up the frying pan, and melt some butter. Although he'd been gone nearly three years she'd remembered everything about him, including the way he liked his steak and his favorite seasoning. He'd been surprised really, the first time she cooked for him after his return, to find it the same.

“Here,” she set down a plate in front of him and turned to go make something for herself. However he waited till she was sitting beside him before he began eating. Snapping apart a pair of chopsticks he picked up some white rice with a bit of soy sauce and popped it into his mouth. “Which Daiichi subject is that heritage thing for again?”

“History.”

“Find out anything interesting?” He asked hoping to start a conversation.

Keiko paused from eating a piece of steak, “Actually there was this one weird thing,” she looked over at him, “On my mom's side, my great-great-great-great-great-grandmother was a demon slayer who married a monk.”

“A monk?” He raised an eyebrow, “I didn't think they could get married, ya know, with that whole bushido thing.”

The brown haired girl gave him a strange look, “Yusuke samurai follow the bushido, not monks.”

“Oh…,” He shrugged, “Still you probably got your slap from her, a slayer's gotta have strength.”

“Mmm, I don't know,” she took a sip from her soda, “Somehow I think if she were married to a monk there wouldn't be a need for slapping.” She let out a small giggle, “I guess I'm not following in her footsteps being with-” She stopped, blushing, “Never mind.”

He looked back over at her and smiled, though she wasn't paying attention finding great interest in the toothpick dispenser. His smile faded quickly when he heard it - her pulse. It had started to happen when his demon kinship was first awakened, his senses had been heightened, but after exhausting all his power in the tournament everything had returned to normal.

Was he now regaining his energy?

Yes, he must've been. How else could he hear her heart beating so wildly in a crowded room? Yet even if his power was returning it didn't explain the thoughts that began planting themselves in his mind. Her heart was racing and he longed for his to do so too. The muscle was pumping red blood throughout her body, heating her face. He reached out to touch her neck, to feel that rushing blood. He wondered what it would be like to taste it, her flesh and that warm crimson liquid…

The moment something sharp cut into his lip he drew back his hand from nearly reaching her. He felt his teeth to find his fangs had come back. He was terribly confused as he slowly found control over his thoughts. Keiko looked over at him concerned, “Yusuke, are you alright?”

He shook his head, “Sorry, I- I don't feel good.” The black haired teen leapt out of his chair and ran out of the diner as fast as he could leaving the blushing girl wondering. He knew he needed help, even when he'd had these powers something like that had never happened. His mind reeled with possible explanations for his behavior, only when he began to think of Raizen did he realize what must've happened. Yusuke's stomach twisted tightly as he fought the urge to vomit, That can't be it…

He switched directions hoping to hear some advice from another demon, one with experience, who could tell him what he feared wasn't true. A few minutes later he stood panting and rapping loudly on the front door of a relatively large home with a plack reading “Minamino/Hatanaka” Within seconds he was greeted by a boy with short brown hair and dark blue eyes, he only appeared one or two years younger.

“Yo Yusuke-san,” He said opening the door wider, “Shuichi-san is in his room. Feel free to bug him.”

“Thanks,” he stepped inside his friend's house, quickly removing his shoes and running up the stairs. As soon as he reached the fox's bedroom he collapsed on his knees, sweat dripping from his face. He could run days without being tried in the least, but when he was trying to run while thinking, panicking, and feeling suddenly ill it seemed to take its toll on his body, “Kurama…”

“Yusuke,” the tall boy sitting at the computer had concern etched into his handsome features, “What's wrong?”

Yusuke found the strength to close the door and meet Kurama's emerald gaze, “Keiko…”

The long crimson haired teen stood and knelt down next to him taking notice that his friend was shivering, “What happened, is she hurt? Has a demon already disobe-”

“No,” He cut him off, “This isn't about other demons. It's about me.”

Kurama's first conclusion was that she must've dumped him, however that didn't make sense, Yusuke didn't appear to be angry or hurt, just afraid. “Would you care to explain?”
He helped his friend up onto his feet and sat him down on the bed before returning to his swivel chair, “I can give you some time if you need it,” he saved the file he was working on and exited out of Microsoft Word. His stepfather would surely understand if it was lately handed it.

He waited patiently for Yusuke to compose himself while munching on box of triscuts that were on his desk. Halfway through swallowing the words came out-

“I think I wanna eat Keiko.”

Dun, Dun, Dun! Cliffhanger! Originally chapters one and two were combined but I decided to spilt them to torture you all. Muhahahahaha! (As all my loyal fans know, I never laugh evilly but for an “M” fic I'll make an exception.)

P.S. At the end of this fic I'm going to thank reviewers personally, and if there are a lot I can't do that. So if you answer a question at the end of each chapter your name goes on the list (and the answer has to be right). It's a game, so…

Question #1: Who were the monk in demon slayer mentioned in this chapter?

Hint: Think “InuYasha”
