Kurama stood outside the hotel, his long red hair flowing in the slight wind. His fight with Karasu would begin soon, but that wasn't the only thing on his mind. As he closed his emerald green eyes, a face came to view, a girl with reddish-blond hair and blue-green eyes. He knew Karasu would hurt her if he had the chance, which was all the more reason to protect her.
"Kurama?" A calm voice broke through his thoughts.
He turned around, seeing the girl he swore to protect, Cece. "I didn't know you were standing there," he answered her.
"You're a fox demon, and you didn't know?" she teased him, running a hand through his hair.
He had to admit, the feeling felt great; the proof was the blush that slowly crept at his cheeks. ~At least it's not Karasu,~ he thought to himself.
"I know you have to fight him, Kurama," she said, her voice sounding down and dismal. "But I have one question I need to ask you."
Kurama looked at her, lightly frowning. He hated to see that look on her innocent face, so he stroked his finger across her cheek lightly. "Yes?"
The touch stunned her; she never expected Kurama to act this way towards her. The tears fell from her aqua colored eyes as she lowered her head. "Why do you have to fight him?" she asked him. "There's got to be a reason why you're doing this."
"As a matter of fact, there is," Kurama answered, holding her chin lightly in his hand while lifting her head to meet his eyes. "Everything I do, I do it for you." As he watched the tears slowly make their way down her cheeks, he brushed them away with one swish of his hand as he walked with her to the stadium.
Somewhere in the distance, he heard music, but it was very faint. As they walked out to the ring, the music grew louder, as if the jeering from the audience didn't seem to matter to them.
Look into my eyes, you will see
What you mean to me
When they had gotten to the ring, with the Urameshi Team and her friend, Kori, in tow, Kurama took her by her hands and led her away from the group. "I want you to know…"
Search your heart search your soul
And when you find me there you'll search no more
Cece's eyes grew wide, hearing what he had to say. She couldn't believe it; she never expected Kurama to have any feelings towards her at all. The tears slid down her cheeks.
Don't tell me it's not worth tryin' for
You can't tell me it's not worth dyin' for
The next thing he said to her shocked her. "If I indeed die during this fight, I'll die knowing I love you." He stroked a hand to her face, drying her eyes. "You're worth the fight, Chantel."
You know it's true
Everything I do I do it for you
His hand sliding from her face, he turned and, with a determined look in his emerald green eyes, jumped into the ring to fight Karasu.
A hand grabbed her shoulder; it was her friend, Kori. "You okay?"
She nodded, looking at a rose he placed into her hand. "Kurama's going to win; I just know it."
Look into your heart you will find
There's nothin' there to hide
Kori looked at her. "You're in love with him, aren't you?"
Cece's face went from worried to shocked. "Um…" ^_^;;;;
"You can't hide it," her friend answered.
Cece didn't reply; she only watched Kurama fight Karasu. She saw him dodge bomb after bomb until they surrounded him, which was when her eyes grew wide with horror and worry.
Take me as I am take my life
I would give it all I would sacrifice
"Why would you willingly give your life for a human?" Karasu asked him as Kurama stood back up.
Kurama turned his eyes up to Karasu. "My reasons are none of your concern," he answered, knowing that Karasu was thinking about attacking her. "But you leave her alone," he added, growling.
Don't tell me it's not worth fightin' for
I can't help it there's nothin' I want more
The main thought racing through his brain was that of two things: how to keep Karasu from attacking her, and to keep from getting himself killed in the process. As the bombs struck him, the pain coursed through him, knocking him down and out of the thoughts that were running through his head.
Ya know it's true
Everything I do I do it for you
Turning his head to face her, he mouthed one simple sentence: "I'll do whatever it takes to keep him away from you." He let his eyes take in her face, although now her face was full of worry for him, for a few seconds before turning back to face Karasu, sending the blood-sucking plant at Karasu before he fell.
"Where did he find the strength to do this?" Karasu asked his last question before he fell… for the final time.
There's no love like your love
And no other could give more love
There's nowhere unless you're there
All the time all the way
~I have no other choice in the matter,~ he thought to himself, hitting the ring for the final time.
This was as much as she could take; she jumped in the ring, throwing a very harsh glare at Juri, who only stood in shock. "You get within two feet of him, and I'll have a fish dinner," she growled.
Oh you can't tell me it's not worth tryin' for
I can't help it there's nothin' I want more
I would fight for you I'd lie for you
Walk the wire for you Yeah I'd die for you
Kori watched what had happened with shock. "So, I was right," she said to herself. "She does love him."
She held his injured form in her arms. She turned him around, seeing his face as her eyes filled with tears again. "I can't believe I'm losing you," she said, brushing some of his hair from his face. "I'll never get this chance to do this again," she whispered, leaning her head down and kissed him.
Outside the ring, the rest of the team looked on in shock… well, except for Yusuke. "Ooh, Kurama's got a girlfriend!"
Kori clocked him in the head. "Shut up!" she said.
Kuwabara whistled. "Wish I could get that close to…"
Hiei looked at him, growling.
Yusuke glared at Kori. "You do that again, and I'll flatten you!"
Ya know it's true
Everything I do
Just as she closed her eyes, one of tears fell and hit his face, which woke him up.
Kurama opened his eyes and looked at her. "I told you that you weren't going to lose me," he said, smiling up at her.
She opened her eyes and hugged him as tight as she could… within reason. "Don't you dare do that again, Shuichi Minamino," she said, her voice lowering as she said his human name.
"Agreed," he said, holding her as well.
Ohhhh.
I do it for you.

Shiori: (dabs at her eyes with a tissue) That was beautiful. My little Shuichi; he's got a girlfriend now.
Kurama: Mother… (blushes beet red)
Shiori: I'm happy for you, Shuichi. Now, about you getting married…
Kurama: ^_^;;;;;; Oh, dear.
Kuwabara: Yeah; how many kids you gonna have?
Cece: More than you'll ever have.
Kuwabara: Hey, who asked you?
Cece: (holds up tape) Unless you want Hiei to see a tape of you getting "closer" to Yukina, you better shut the hell up.
Hiei: He did … WHAT?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?
Cece: Here's the tape…
Yusuke: Uh oh… Good night, everybody! ^_^;;;
Kurama: (grabs the girls and runs like mad) Now is not a good time to get near Hiei. ^_^;;;
Cece: (looks at an angry Hiei, who chases Kuwabara) Good point!! Bye!!!
