Yu Yu Hakusho Fan Fiction ❯ Below the Bar ❯ Self-Hate Never Hurt Anyone ( Chapter 1 )

[ P - Pre-Teen ]

Kuwabara ran out of the temple, back towards the city. He wasn't the smartest, he knew that without anyone telling him. But did they really have to call him baka so much? Yeah, Hiei was an ass to everyone but Kurama and Yukina, but the rest of them were still being unfair. Kurama and Yukina never called him names. But they laughed too…

He stopped halfway home at the edge to the city. What did it matter if they called him names? He couldn't avoid it. Tomorrow they'd hang out again and it would happen again. Running out like that had been a bad idea. If anything Yusuke would tease if even more about it.
“Why do I gotta be the idiot?” He muttered. Part of him did want to go back and just laugh it off like he should of before. But sometimes he got really tired of those jokes.

Growling noises made him jump up. He forced his spirit sword out, but for some reason the will just wasn't in him and it was shorter than it should have been. A large black cat stepped out from the trees on the other side of the road and approached, tail high. It took a few hesitant steps forward, then trotted to him, nuzzling Kuwabara's legs before he could react.
“Uh….okay.” He let his sword go and pet the cat, which then began to purr. “You're like a large version of Eikichi.”
The cat sat back and licked Kuwabara's hand as it left his head. In the same style as Youko turning to Kurama, the cat transformed into a man, crouched upon the ground. His hair was long and the same shiny black of the cat, he was tall, taller than Kuwabara as he stood up, and dressed in formal black suit and silk red tie.
“I am so glad you were willing to have me approach.” The man smiled and stepped forward, just one step from being flush with Kuwabara.
“You're a demon? Shit!” Kuwabara tried to move back but tripped on the tree he had been leaning against before. The demon caught him by the sleeves and righted him, still the one step away.
“Yes, but only half. Please, don't hold something so trivial against me. I am aware you fight demons to protect the human world, but I swear I am not a threat. I saw you working in my office, it seems a bit ridiculous, but it was love at first site.”
Kuwabara looked down at his shoes, and noticed how nice the other man's were. He worked in an office building as a janitor.
“You look like you could do better than liking a janitor.” He mumbled.
“I could, if I chose to, date a many number of people. I could not however, love whoever I chose.” He stepped forward again, leaning his head down to kiss Kuwabara.
“Stop it.” Kuwabara tried to order but only whined. “I don't want you to kiss me.”
“Why not? I know that being a man may be distasteful to you, but other than that there is no reason to not give me a chance.”
“I just don't want you to.“ Kuwabara managed to slip by and started going down the road to the city. “I'm really not having a good day, so just leave me alone.”
Kuwabara felt even lower than before. He could say yes, it'd be nice having someone who wouldn't make fun of him. Kissing a guy didn't gross him out anymore, not since he'd realized how much women hated him and he'd been hit on by one guy when he went out for a beer. But he'd heard the office rumors of richer guys doing a lot to get in their worker's pants, and that would hurt more than his friends' jokes.
“Please, let me talk with you awhile. I really do have the best intentions with you.”
Best intentions? That sounded like one of the cheap romance novels Shizuru liked to read.
“I swear I fell in love with you, I wholly admit that I have crossed the line and on more than this occasion but please, give me a chance?”
“What do you mean crossed the line? I didn't even know you were alive until today.” Kuwabara stopped, turning around to face him.
“I had you moved to working only on the top 5 floors so I can see you more often.” The man admitted. “It starts on Monday.”
“With all the CEOs and important people? My job is going to be Hell. Thanks.” Kuwabara huffed, walking off again. He liked his job because he could talk to the other janitors, and the people in the cubicles. They liked him, and he liked them. All the CEOs and ass kissing rich people would be snobs and make even more work for him.
“Wait, please, I had no idea I would make you unhappy doing that. Please, I can just send you back to the other floors. I just want to see you more often.”
“I don't even like guys!” Kuwabara pulled out his spirit sword and held it up in a defensive pose. “Get away before I chop you to bits!”
The man stopped, watching the blazing spirit energy in defeat. He nodded and bowed slightly at the waist, the turned back into his demon form to run back through the trees and foliage. Kuwabara swore he did the right thing, being some rich guys pet wouldn't do him any good.

But he liked thinking someone could love that much.
