Yu Yu Hakusho Fan Fiction ❯ Beneath the Bubbles ❯ Chapter one ( Chapter 1 )

[ T - Teen: Not suitable for readers under 13 ]

The smell of freshly baked apple pie wafted through the small bakery on the corner of a busy road in downtown Tokyo. You reach into the oven with mitts on, and pull out your new creation, setting it near an open window to cool. You stare at the star speckled sky and consider yourself lucky to have the store where you could watch the sky, no streetlights to hinder the view. The front door of the bakery opened with a ring, and you turn your attention toward the door and smiled.

“Welcome to Tenchi's bakery. Can I help you?”

You study the customers. They certainly are an odd bunch. There was a guy that wore a green uniform and had black, slicked back, shiny hair with chocolate brown eyes. You knew this boy to be Yusuke. Another was a fairly tall, orange haired guy, wearing a blue uniform and beady black eyes. The next one was another tall guy. He had long, shiny red hair and stunning emerald eyes. He wore a maroon color uniform and looked calm and collected. The last guy, a short one around 5” tall but the same height as yourself, had black hair that looked like he hung upside down while drying his hair, wore a long black cape around him, so she couldn't really tell what he was wearing. What surprised you, though, was that his eyes were a shiny ruby color. The whole group only looked to be around the age of seventeen or eighteen years old.

`Well, this isn't your average bunch of teenagers that come in here once in a while. I wonder what Yusuke is doing here.' You stopped and got a feeling that she hadn't in a while. `So, they are demons except for two, and Yusuke is the half demon.'

“Hey Ali, what's up?” exclaimed Yusuke.

“Hello Yusuke. Can I help you with something?” you asked again.

“Yes, actually,” said the one with the long, red hair. “I'm looking for a birthday cake for my mother.”

You smile at the sound of his voice. It was smooth and calm. “What type of cake in particular sir?”

Mistress, please be careful. These ones belong to Koenma. Powerful spirit detectives they are. They go by the names of, Kazuma Kuwabara, Yoko Kurama or Shuichi Minamino, Hiei Jaganshi, and Yusuke Urameshi you already know.

Yoko Kurama? I thought he was dead! How can he be alive? Do you think he recognises me?

I'm not sure, mistress, I just thought I should warn you.

Thank you, Mepo. Are they looking for someone or something? It isn't very often that a whole group of spirit detectives come looking for merely a cake.

Perhaps… but I don't want you to get hurt. Just be weary.

“Miss? Miss?”

“Hmm? Oh, sorry sir, what were you saying?”

He told you that he wanted a white cake with white frosting and red roses on the corners, with the words `Happy Birthday' written across the top.

“Well,” you say, looking at the selection of cakes behind glass display cases on the other side of the room, where the other boys were. “We don't have any here at the moment, but I do have a cake that should be cooled by now in the back room. I can frost it for you now if you like?”

“That would be good. Thank you.” He said.

You nodded and asked him to go with you so that he could pick out the colors and such, leaving the rest of his gang in the front shop. You led him to the back room where you put most of the larger cakes and such to cool. You grab a book and set it in front of the guy and got some bowls to make the frosting in.

“Please pick the colors and any designs that you like,” you said, gathering the basic ingredients to make the frosting.

“Of course.” He chose a few colors and designs, and you set to work. “So you're name is Ali?” he asked.

“Alison, but most call me Ali. What's yours?”

“I'm Shuichi Minamino. Don't you have a last name?”

`Oh kami-sama, does he recognise me at all?'

“No… or if I do, I don't remember. Where do you want this to go?”

He pointed to a spot on the cake and you continued to frost it.

“So, do how old are you Ali?”

“Fourteen. Who are your friends out there?”

“Oh, they are Kuwabara, and Hiei. How do you know Yusuke out there?”

“Him? Well, he comes here from time to time, mostly to see if I have anything he can have,” you replied with mild annoyance. “There, all done. Would you like to choose the box to put it in?”

He chose a dark blue box with yellow ribbon to keep it closed. You both went to the front shop and you set the cake down on the counter. Bringing out a piece of paper, you set it down on top of the boxed cake.

“How much do I owe you?” asked Shuichi.

“Nothing, it's on me,” you smile. He smiles back and thanks you. The boys leave the shop and you watch them intently. Sighing, you turn back to the window to check on the pie. Your eyes widen and you are filled with shock and anger.

“YUSUKE URAMESHI!”

~Someone's POV~

The night air was cool and crisp. A small breeze whizzed by and moved the red hair off of her smooth, ivory face. Her green eyes watched closely from her perch on the small building as the gang walked below. The smell of fresh pie and cake got stronger the closer the gang got to her. `So, the girl named Alison gave a cake to Kurama, but Urameshi takes a pie? Well, this should be interesting.

“So, how does it look Kurama?” asked Yusuke with a tone of mischief in his voice.

“Yusuke, I don't like that tone in your voice,” he replied back

“YUSUKE URAMESHI!” you all hear, coming from the bakery.

“What did you do detective?” Hiei sneered at him.

Yusuke looks behind you and his eyes widen. “Oh shit, run for it!”

The rest of the gang looks to where Yusuke pointed and see Ali, running at him with a frying pan in her small hands. Her short, chocolate brown hair moved side to side as she sprinted down the street. Her rusty brown eyes had the gleam of death in them, boring in Yusuke's direction. He tried to run, but he hesitated for too long. Jumping in the air, Alison landed on him back and whacked the spirit detective over the head multiple times before getting off the unconscious boy.

“Well, now that's the girl has left, I'll take the spoils.”

~Your POV~

“Yusuke, you baka! Try that stunt again, and I'll kick your ass so hard, you'll have to pick your boxers out with tweezers! Do you hear me?”

Yusuke nodded feebly and you smirked. “Hand over the pie Urameshi.”

Yusuke blanched at this, and laughed nervously and opened up his jacket, showing you the pie. “Well you see… I kinda squished it when you jumped-“

He stopped and stared at you nervously as your hair hung over your eyes. Steam was practically coming out of your ears. “You…did…what? That was my first time making that recipe! And you had to go and ruin it before I could even taste it!” then under your breath, you mutter, “It was supposed to be for poor sick Tenchi.”

“I'm sorry, Ali. Can I make it up to you?”

You ponder this for a second, and say, “Well, I suppose you can help me make another… and I do have some other recipes that I would like to try.”

Yusuke smiled. “Good, then it's settled. We will come over and help you make them tomorrow.” You agreed with him, and they set off. The Hiei fellow just glared at Yusuke, for some reason that you don't know. Smiling slightly, you head back home. You enter the front door of the bakery and lock the door, closing up for the night. You shut the windows and shut off the lights, making sure the windows are locked. You head upstairs to your room since you live only upstairs. Heading toward your room, you felt as though something is amiss. Curiously, you head upstairs.

Mepo, where are you? You wait for a couple of seconds for a reply before you know something is REALLY wrong. You continue your way to your room and open the door slightly. You see nothing out of the ordinary, so you enter your sparsely furnished room. The bed is on the left hand side from the door. It's a twin bed with a nice, red comforter on it and it has two red pillows to match. The desk near the window, where you keep all your treasured items, was still in the same place it was before, although you notice that the window was slightly ajar. Now knowing that someone or something has snuck into your room at some point, you immediately change into some tight, black, leather pants and a tight, black leather halter top, and turn into your cat demon form. Your once short, chocolate brown hair now lightens up, making it a light brown. A slender, black tail seems to pop out of the back of your pants, flickering eagerly. Your stunning rusty brown eyes turned a deeper brown color, making you have a mystical look.

“Time to play,” you mutter playfully.
